Sushi Hand Roll Bar KazuNori Opens a New Location in Greenwich Village - Eater NY

"KazuNori, the popular hand roll bar from Sugarfish, is opening in Greenwich Village, at 205 Bleecker Street, near Sixth Avenue, on November 2. The windows were papered over on Friday, and construction appears to be underway. This is Kazu Nori’s fourth location in the city since opening here in 2017. At its restaurants in Nomad, Union Square, and Midtown East, a set of three hand rolls costs $18 and a set of six costs $34." - Luke Fortney

Tip: eat FAST! The hand rolls taste best when first placed because the nori/seaweed is still super crispy, the rice is hot, and the fish is cold. Got the 6-roll set and loved the yellowtail best. Super FRESH and clean tasting, especially with the micro scallions! Also,if you go in on a weekend, expect to have to stand inside the restaurant to wait. However- the line moves fast and the vibes are good! Well worth a visit!

We went here to celebrate a friend’s birthday! The staff was so helpful in offering us options to be seated together / separately since we were a larger party. We went on a weekend around prime dinner time so it took about 45 minutes to seat us together - although, note that we expected this wait. The restaurant has bar seating only and it was an intimate atmosphere. As a little side note, my friend who id’s as a plus sized person mildly complained that the seats were uncomfortable so keep that in mind! The hand rolls were stunning. My group & I got: 4 hand rolls, 6 hand rolls, and the Nozie set (along with some additional hand rolls a la carte) and they were all fantastic. The scallop handroll was so buttery and flavorful but my favorite was the NZ sea bream. The mild flavor combined with the seasoned rice just makes a wonderful mouthfeel. I’ve also tried monk fish (their special for the day) for the first time and I loved it! We loved the attentive staff, checking in just enough to see whether we needed refills or more ginger/wasabi. Our specific waitress conversed and chatted with us about her favorite types of hand rolls as well. The only downside was that my friends had a difficult time hearing the chef when he presented their hand rolls so it made it difficult to track what they were eating. Even though they asked for repetition, they were still unable to hear the type of hand roll they ate so it made their experience a bit of a guessing game. Other than that, we had a good experience :) a must-visit place!!

super fresh & affordable hand rolls!! a 5-roll set is already very fulfilling to me, and i highly recommend the toro, scallop and lobster. we visited at 3:30 pm on a sunday and fortunately didn’t have to wait, but the line can get long so be early!

One of the best restaurants for sushi lovers in the city. When I lived in NY we craved this weekly. Best things on the menu in my opinion are the Toro and Scallop handrolls. I eat multiple of each when I go. Affordable, fast, and incredibly good. Better than any sushi I’ve ever had, and I travel quite a bit! This is a must have.

I’ve been a loyal KazuNori customer for years at the W 28th St location, so I was very excited that this location opened up closer to me! I love the entire concept of the restaurant, and the quality of the fish is always superb. The new space and staff were incredibly welcoming! However, I do think this location still has some kinks to work on. The rice when I went was kind of mushy/slimy? Not sure how to describe it, but it took me aback. Also, the rice to fish ratio was off - I looked through some of the other reviews photos, and my rolls had quite a bit more rice (see photos). I will most def be back, but hopefully the restaurant sees this review and can work on quality consistency between locations!

Perfect lunch spot with the beeest quality hand rolls - wouldn't expect less from the same group as Sugar Fish. Wouldn't miss it!!

The person who greeted me (I think her name is April) was curt and quick. Literally directing me to the worst seat with only 4 other people at the bar. She never asked if I wanted to pick my seat! Which was an offered Choice to many others after I was seated right at the door!! Then I asked for bottled water, she mumbled something, however I couldn’t understand as she had a mask on. I ordered the bottled water which she brought, although she Never gave me a glass to drink out of¿¿ it Took about five minutes to get somebody to notice that I was waving them down to get a glass. Terrible first 15 minutes !! Now onto the sushi, lady rolling the rolls! Absolutely the most miserable person to be on stage (So to speak) I think I was in the Restaurant for about 1 1/2 hours …. I never saw her smile once..a resting mean face!! She would toss the on the roll counter, but no eye contact .. just a scowl and a miserable frown!! When you are a restaurant that only serves people at a bar and you are behind the bar serving or making food, it is very unappetizing to watch somebody totally miserable that does not interact that does not look at anybody and literally throws the rolls on the counter, mumbling something looking absolutely miserable or in pain. Something was wrong. !! Really made me uncomfortable to be dining here. I’ve been eating a Kazu Nori in Los Angeles probably at least 100 times. in New York just a few. It’s always been a pleasure to sit at the bar and chat with the Sushi persons in Kazu Nori!! . Staff are always friendly talkative happy and nice.! Extreme opposite at Kazu Nori on Bleecker st. Customer service is everything, I feel non Exists in this restaurant! It was extremely uncomfortable dining here. I now have a stomach ache From eating, someone’s miserable Energy put in the food!! Inconsistency in the size of the rolls was evident , & Very frustrating Also, the nori paper was not crispy because I think she manhandles the nori with bad energy and unhappy hands!
