At This New Masai Mara Lodge, Five-Star Comforts Meet Thrilling Adventure | Vogue

"Touching down on my 16-seater here—located in the southeastern corner of the 1,510-square-kilometer reserve—the vast plains looked exactly as they do in the movies, with rolling hills of golden grassland punctuated by towering acacia trees and shrubby green thickets." - Liam Hess

Busy but very functional little airstrip in the southern part of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. We had a nice scenic flight over to Ukunda (Diani) for a few days on the beach.

Keekorok Airstrip (HKKE) is a public airstrip located in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. It is the busiest airstrip in the Maasai Mara, with over 100,000 passengers passing through each year. The airstrip is located about 10 kilometers from the Keekorok Lodge, one of the most popular safari lodges in the Mara. Keekorok Airstrip is a dirt airstrip, but it is well-maintained and suitable for small aircraft such as Cessna Caravans and Dash-8s. The airstrip is also equipped with a control tower and a small terminal building. The arrival and departure process at Keekorok Airstrip is generally smooth and efficient. Passengers are met at the airstrip by representatives of their safari lodge or tour operator, who will assist them with their luggage and transportation to their lodge. Overall, Keekorok Airstrip is a well-maintained and efficient airstrip that provides a convenient gateway to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Pros: Convenient location Well-maintained airstrip Efficient arrival and departure process Cons: Dirt airstrip (can be dusty in dry weather) Limited facilities at the airstrip (no restaurants or shops) Overall rating: 4 out of 5 stars Tips for travelers: Book your flight to Keekorok Airstrip in advance, especially if you are traveling during peak season. Arrange for your safari lodge or tour operator to meet you at the airstrip and transport you to your lodge. Be aware that the airstrip is a dirt airstrip, so it can be dusty in dry weather. There are no restaurants or shops at the airstrip, so be sure to bring any snacks or drinks that you may need.

Reached here from Wilson airport through a small dash aircraft. While the airstrip was invaded by the Zebras, the pilot had to scare them with a low fly and they dispersed in a lightning speed. Our journey to Sarova Mara Camp started from here.

The runway is smooth though not tarmac on it plus it’s easily accessible since most airlines drop clients here. It’s also close to major hotels in the Mara. There are clean washrooms on site and there’s a ranger always on guard. There are also maasais there selling goodies Incase you didn’t get a chance to visit a curio shop during your visit.

Beautiful small airport located in Masai Mara National Park. Only small planes are landing here.

Bedlam, but it all seems to work. Wash rooms are awful. There is no terminal, and very little shelter, but all adds to the charm of the place 🤣🤣
