This was my second visit to Kehli, the first was two years ago and it was amazing in every way. This time, however, I left disappointed. The server was an older gentleman, rather gruff and inhospitable. No warmth whatsoever. The goulash soup was great, but the salty pasta with cheese and bacon was too dry, needed more sour cream for moisture. The biggest disappointment was the stuffed cabbage, a dish I know very well as a Hungarian American whose grandmother and mother made this and other rustic Magyar dishes to perfection. The 2 cabbage rolls were quite small and buried in sauerkraut piled on top, plus the dish was way too salty, something I’m usually not particular about. When I walked out the door to leave, the man sitting up front said absolutely nothing- no thank you or acknowledgement. I teach hospitality service for a living and will use my experience here as an example how NOT to execute customer service. Gundel is a far better option in both food quality and service excellence. I will say Kehli’s environment is wonderful with roving gypsy band and customers singing old Hungarian tunes.
