Beautiful historical building. Good place to take pictures. We arrived at noon in very hot weather because the sun was just like above our head. 🥵 🌞I think we should go in the evening in future. The place is nice but I think the ticket fees & parking price isn't worth the penny. The building isn't clean enough even though we pay with the entrance fee but it's a good place for historical stories hunters.

It was amazing to visit the historical castle. It was really nice even if it was ruined. You can see how the owner this castle love to built his castle. It was details and so nice inside. They have really nice scenery surround the castle. Personally I really love to see old structures for some reasons I don’t know but it really inspired me and gives me ghost bums. I even went to the rooftop to see the beautiful surrounding. I love this place.

Kellie’s Castle is definitely an eye-catching structure. The mix of European and Indian architectural styles makes it unique and photogenic. The old staircases, red bricks, and unfinished sections give it a mysterious charm that’s perfect for visitors who love historical buildings. However, the story behind it isn’t that engaging. It was built by William Kellie Smith, a wealthy British planter, but he died before completing it. That’s basically it — no strong connection to Malaysian history or cultural significance. It’s a nice spot to explore and take pictures, but if you're expecting a place rich in historical meaning, this might disappoint you. Visually impressive, but the story doesn’t leave a lasting impact.

If you like old, unusual buildings that have a cool history and are in peninsular Malaysia, put this on your want-to-go list. I visited 20 years ago and the entire site was overgrown; had a swing bridge crossing the stream to the castle site; a muddy strip on which to park; no one around. Now it is, in some sad respects, a full blown tourist destination - paved parking; cement bridge; trimmed lawns; full castle access (though no wheelchair access); cement walkways; and an entrance fee. Fee is cashless and you must go online; register; pay online; then the workers will process ticket. Lots of good static displays describe the castle's history. Lots of things to photograph. Went on a weekday and plenty of tourist group on the grounds. You can get more info online.

Tucked away from the bustling town lies a majestic castle that feels like stepping into a fairytale. Surrounded by scenic memorial trails, this hidden gem offers a peaceful escape. Photography lovers will find endless inspiration here—grand archways, sprawling courtyards, and breathtaking panoramic views that capture the essence of timeless beauty. Wander along the trails to discover hidden memorials, tranquil gardens, and spots perfect for that once-in-a-lifetime photo.

Went on a weekday. It’s a beautiful castle that is sadly not well preserved. The roof structure does not seem stable and plenty of the grounds were ruined. It’s not a lived in historic place since the furniture were mostly gone. Not sure why they put up signs that there are ghost sightings (doesn’t seem like anyone died there?) instead of meaningful information. Still a pretty place and hope restoration can be done soon.

Impressive building. Lots of stories of which most are contained within the walls of the castle. I visited just after rainfall; little slippery on the top stairs. Should be no issue if it was a beautiful, sunny day. Be careful as the stairs to the top most floor are a little narrow. Overall, enjoyed the trip there.

Yelp
This is a great local place to visit when in Ipoh. It's aittle off the beaten path but is worth the drive. Upon arriving you just have to pay a small fee. There is a parking lot with a few souvenir shops and places to buy some snacks. The castle itself is interesting, and has plenty of info boards inside telling about the history of the castle and what each room was. There's plenty of great places for photo opportunities throughout the castle. The inside of the castle and grounds were surprisingly clean. The only negative, was that there isn't really any workers around the castle while touring so there were some people running around or walking into areas that were off limits. All in all, I would definitely spending some time to stop by and check this place out when in Ipoh.

Yelp
We visited as part of a Ipoh Secrets tour. The castle looks like a fusion of east and west cultures. I'm curious to see how it would have looked when completed. I think it best to visit with a tour guide so you can appreciate the "castle" better, though there are useful information boards put up as well. Admission is 10 ringgit for foreigners, 5 ringgit for Malaysians so bring your ID.

Yelp
Some people said it's scary to be here but I love it. I had been here for a few times with my family. The view from the top is superb. It looks so good in pictures, so does in real. My international friends said it's their dreams to be here. The building has a lot of history to tell the youngsters. Those who love historical places, this is the right one.

Yelp
There are so many stories and mysteries surrounding the famous Kellie's Castle in Perak. The castle was built in the 1915 but the construction came to a stop when the owner passed away in 1926. Many people believe the castle is haunted and has secret undergrounds tunnel and hidden rooms. Kellie's Castle is located 20 minutes from Ipoh, on top of a hill which was once a rubber plantation. To get to the castle, you need to go through some small roads that are very maze-like. I love ancient architecture and buildings, so I was very excited when we arrived at the castle. There's a proper parking in front of the castle, and you can see the name "Kellies Castle" on the grass from the carpark area. Despite they never got the chance to complete the construction, I could tell how big and beautiful the castle going to be if the construction would have been completed. You can walked around and have a feel of the walkway and the rooms. The area was cool and windy when we were there, probably due to it being far from the town area. There's a courtyard in the middle of the castle where you can take beautiful photos. In fact, I believe you can take amazing photos from almost every corner at the castle. If you have the courage, do make your way up to the top of the castle. You'll have a wide view of the area, but please be extra careful when you are up there so you do not fall off the castle. It's sad that they never got the chance to complete the castle. It would really have been awesome! If you are driving by, do drop by Kellies Castle and have a feel around the castle!

Yelp
I've never known of the existence of this place until year 2010. My friends and I went for a Jalan Jalan Cari Makan one day trip to Ipoh. Cuti-cuti Malaysia, support our local tourism. Hehe.. We went to Ipoh for the usual Ipoh famous bean sprout chicken followed by cave visiting and all. On our way back, we passed by this road side signboard written 'Kellie's Castle'. Then someone suggested that we shall go over for a visit. As a curious tourists, we all agreed to go over for a look since we are already here. Why is it called Kellie's Castle, there's a story behind it. This place is build by a Scottish man named named William Kellie Smith for his family. This place is indeed a small castle. It is 6 floors high with indoor tennis court, rooftop court yard, wine cellar and tunnels. The construction of this castle was never complete due to certain unfortunate event and the Smith family moved back to Scotland after Smith died of Spanish flu. This place is now a famous tourist spot in Gopeng. It is even used as film setting for movies like Anna and the King and Skyline Cruisers which make this place even more famous. Other than all that, there are many local haunted story about this place. There's story where you can see Smith's spirit wandering in the castle, as well as spirits of the builders who died there. I was told that you might also hear sound of little children running around and all. I wouldn't want to be the one justifying how true those story is. It is creepy enough to listen to those story while touring the castle. Another interesting part about this place that I can assure is real is that there's a tree where the trunk is a shape of a bear. Yes, I've seen that with my own eyes and can assure that it's real. Others you would have to go check it out yourself. If you happen to visit Ipoh, remember to pay Kellie's Castle a visit! You only have to pay a small entrance fee to tour around this amazing historical building.

Yelp
Kellie's Castle is a very interesting place to visit. The uniqueness of architectural structure that can be built in such an old time was amazing. Some of my foreign friends said it's common to have hidden tunnel or secret staircase built in the era of colonial. But what about the lift that they were plan to built in old days? or the helipad on top of the roof? My most unforgettable moment is the fascinating view on top of the helipad where you can see the entire castle and surrounding in different angle. As you walk through the alley of the indoor castle, you will see some picture and so called haunted story hanging on the wall. But for me, it's not haunted. It's a romance story between Mr. William Kellie and his wife. This castle supposed to built as a faraway home for them. Unfortunately, it's not a happy ending for them because Kellie's sudden death due to pneumonia. It's a definitely a must visit place for the sake of interesting architectural structure, beautiful love story or haunted story and the scenery from the top. Note: I will suggest to come in the morning to avoid humid and sunny day at the afternoon. Apply sunblock, wear comfort shoes, bring water and also camera!

Yelp
Kellie's Castle is a historical site on the way back from Ipoh, Perak to Kuala Lumpur. On our drive back we too decided to stop and go walk around. while buying thickets i read some of the newspaper cut outs and the history of the castle, the main attraction here is due to claims that its haunted. So Mr Kellie, who was here in Malaysia during the British war era started building this castle for him and his family to stay. Apparently he was very invested in the project but died before its completion and thats why its left in the state that its in now. According to people that have been in the castle alone at night or sometimes even during the day, they claim to see Mr Kellie's shadow or a figure that looks like him. They even have pictures of sightings of his ghost in and around the castle. Rumours a side, it was indeed an interesting experience as we got to tour the grounds of a really old castle. Wouldn't say that i'd go back again cause it wasn't that interesting but if you do happen to drive by the area then its worth a stop.
