A terrific place for a stag do weekend. We were able to book the entire hostel for a very reasonable price, and we were delighted by the excellent facilities and location. 100% recommended for large parties.

Fantastic location in the centre of town. There are shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes all within a short walk (less that 5 mins). I went with a group and we hired out the whole hostel. As such I didn't have any interaction with the owner/ service. There isn't really service here as it is a hostel. It worked well for the 38 of us who stayed there. The rooms mainly have bunk beds. It was a nice place to stay. The only thing that seemed missing was a bed light. So when on the lower bunks it's easier to see clearly.

Really enjoyed my stay at Kendal Hostel. I stayed in a dorm room and had a double bed. I shared the room with 3 other women and there were 7 bed spaces in the room. I didn't feel it was overcrowded, I was comfortable with the number of people I shared the room with. My bed was comfy and clean linen was provided. The bathroom was clean. I visited two other shower rooms and two other toilets within the hostel during my stay and they were all clean. The lounge was nice and there is a free to play pool table. The kitchen was very well equipped and both the kitchen and dining room were clean. We were afforded a warm welcome and a pot of tea which was brought all the way up to our respective bedrooms. The hostel welcomes dogs to stay in individual bedrooms. I loved breakfast costing £3.00 and included tea, coffee, milk, fruit juices, bread, spreads, jams, chocolate and peanut butter spreads, marmalade, yogurts, fruit and cereals! Fantastic! I highly recommend staying at Kendal Hostel. Oh, and take earplugs, just with the hostel being on a high street it can be noisy outside on the weekend.

A friendly hostel in a lovely little town, the gateway to the lakes. The staff here are great and have always managed to fit me in if I want to stay short notice. The rooms are clean and big/not overcrowded and the facilities are great, especially the big kitchen. Would definitely recommend to backpackers looking to explore the lakes!

Stayed one night in Kendal Hostel and because I'm a light sleeper booked a room all to myself. When checking in was met be Jan (I think) who was lovely, very personable and who took me upstairs to show me the room, pointing out all the amenities on the way and also made me a pot of tea! The room was clean, as we're the toilets and showers. Had a decent nights sleep. The continental breakfast in the morning, bread, juice and lots on jam/peanut butter/spread was available. Check out was as easy as leaving a key in a box. Would definitely stay here again.

Better than expected, the lounge area with a roaring log burner was a nice spot, the bunks comfy and clean. The kitchen was well organised and generally a well maintained and managed old building. Just prior to the hostel is a left hand turn into a quiet car park to the rear of the hostel, overnight charge was £1.60 until 9am which was handy as it was a quick walk to reception area patrolled by the cat.|Good value, good location, enjoyed our stay.

Stayed over night as we were watching a Band at The Barrel House. What a wonderful place....dog friendly with ensuite rooms. Spotless and the host is wonderful, we have just booked another night for December. Pls consider staying here rather than an over priced Travelodge or Premier.||Parking next door is only £7 for 24 hours. 5 *

We stayed here as a group of 30 family members and friends for a big birthday. We had sole use. Kristina was very keen for us to visit prior to booking to ensure we knew they layout and that we were happy it would meet our needs. ||We had a great time. Everyone was very happy with the facilities- plenty of communal area to spread out.||There are a lot of nice touches such as log burner, piano, guitar and pool table.||A couple of things to advise for large groups - the dining room only has seating for 26-28 people. Kristina did tell us this prior so we made adjustments so not a problem.||The kitchen is nicely set up with 8 gas rings, but unfortunately no large pans for mass catering, and there were not enough plates or cutlery for everyone to eat together. This problem is easily resolved so am sure will not be a problem in future.||Kristina was great through the booking process and always kept us fully informed.||Very flexible when we asked to come early to decorate!!||The website for the hostel is great letting you know exactly what to expect.||Would recommend for a stay||Many thanks

Yelp
For those whose vision of a YHA hostel is as some sort of bleak army barracks set-up for masochists, an overnight stay at this pace will not only convert you but will show you what you've been missing. Located in a lovely and unspoiled street, rich in Victoriana and with well-preserved Georgian architecture, the hostel is a huge old townhouse, handily placed in front of the famous 'Brewery Arts Centre' venue, so check the listings before you make your booking, you might be pleasantly surprised. Immaculately clean and modern throughout, the hostel provides shared dormitories for the budget-conscious (usually around £13.95 per night) or shared family rooms, for families (naturally) or couples. A well laid out and fully-featured communal kitchen, is ideal for self-catering purposes, but meals (and breakfasts) can be booked in advance, or on arrival. The rooms are warm and comfortable, and the bathrooms are first-rate (although the pressure of the showers could do with being reduced a bit ranging from 'invigorating' to 'dermabrasion'). Plenty of recreational facilities; a well-stocked library, tv, mountain-bike hire at cheap rates. But if you get Room 6, keep the lights on it's haunted.
