"Kendall Mountain Café is one of Jespersen’s favorite spots for a diner-style breakfast and lunch. The dishes are simple and straightforward, the portions hearty, and the prices low. And the setting couldn’t be cuter: it's a little red house hidden under the trees with summer outdoor seating." - Travel + Leisure Editors

They were rather packed at 8:00 a.m but they slipped in the to-go order for me. $6 breakfast sandwich was huge! At least three eggs, maybe four plus bacon. They have really good hot sauce selection and to go hot sauce for me. Staff was super duper nice and working hard. All around excellent. Had outdoor seating for dogs. Go early

We eat here when we road up to Silverton from Durango on the train. There was a short wait to be seated but the food was worth it. This is a spot you need to dine at when you are up this way. Keep in mind the altitude is over 9000 feet and you will feel a little lite headed.

Kendall Mountain Cafe is a true gem! This small, family-owned restaurant does an amazing job handling the steady crowds of people coming through. The food is homemade, fresh, and absolutely delicious — you can really taste the love that goes into every dish. What stood out most was the hardworking and dedicated staff. Everyone there seemed committed to making sure guests had a great experience. It felt like a true team effort, and the atmosphere was so welcoming. One of the sweetest parts of our visit was seeing the cutest little boy — I’m guessing the son of one of the employees — helping out. He was seating people, bussing tables, and even bringing drinks! It was so heartwarming and really added to the family-friendly charm of the place. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area. You’ll leave full, happy, and smiling!

The food is amazing and not crazy expensive like other restaurants in town

Google
Excellent breakfast burrito and potatoes! Service was friendly, yet overwhelmed.. I got there fairly early, yet the place was so overcrowded that I decided to get mine to go so I didn't have to wait for a table; I asked them to bring it out to my car. The order took over 30 minutes to show up, and a line was starting to form outside their door. Very glad I waited though - it was tasty and hot!

Google
Delicious breakfast. My breakfast burrito was huge and very filling. Great service as well. They were very busy and one server was covering all the tables and did amazing

Cute café and the food was absolutely delicious!

Google
We had a fantastic breakfast at Kendall Mountain Cafe! The buttermilk and blueberry pancakes were absolutely delicious—fluffy, flavorful, and literally the size of the plate! We also tried the huevos rancheros, which were equally impressive—perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Great food, cozy atmosphere, and friendly service. Highly recommend stopping in if you're in the area! Also, lots of locals eating there which means it’s good!

Yelp
This was a really cold and tedious start to the day. There was a pretty long wait on a Sunday morning at 8:45 but they won't let you put your name in or give you an estimate for how much longer it might be so we ended up just standing in the cold wondering if we should leave or not for awhile. They also kept asking the two of us and the couple behind us if we would mind sharing a table and seated a group of 4 behind us rather than just seating us at a 4 person table (I could see 2 people at a 4 person table through the door from where I was standing) which made the wait longer. Sitting outside in the shade on a chilly morning was a huge mistake, there was a long wait for food once we had ordered and by the time it arrived I just wanted to eat as fast as possible so we could leave. The food was fine and service was friendly but I definitely won't be coming back.

Yelp
Ordered a transitional breakfast. Food had excellent flavor. Fast service and friendly waitress from WV :) I would eat here again! Bathroom was also the storage room. Was kind of run down bathroom.

Yelp
Rolled into Silverton hungry and found Alice at Kendall's Mountain Cafe. Not only Alice being a great hostess, she made sure we were well behaved! Come see Alice and tell her Bob² told you to stop in!

Rick W.

Yelp
We went on the suggestion of the nice lady at the Durango rail station. She was right. Good food, good prices - the locals eat there!

Giselle V.

Yelp
This place was amazing! There was a bit of a wait but it's completely understandable, they were busy! There wasn't much room inside but the waitresses and host made the best of it. They were able to accommodate people outside so they were able to eat as well. It was a super friendly atmosphere and everyone was enjoying their food. The food came out fresh, hot and super delicious! I am glad that we had that tiny wait because the service and the food were amazing. The waitress was so kind and even told us about some local Fourth of July events happening in town. Overall, definitely recommend!

Yelp
Loved the Kendall Mountain. Super friendly waitress. Delicious food! A little off the main strip which made it a little quieter.

Yelp
Stopped in on our train trip to Silverton Hopped over for the open face burger and philly. Absolutely fabulous. Waitress was extremely nice and inviting. Highly recommend! The pies looked to die for!!!!!! We didn't get to try them but everyone around raved about them.

Cathy Y.

Yelp
Breakfast for us Sunday morning travelers was great! Small cafe, waitress friendly and quick service.

Cindy H.

Yelp
Excellent blueberry pancakes! Great service! Small town cafe with a great reputation that anyone in town will recommend!

Bert H.

Yelp
Small locally owned restaurant with good quality food and service. I had the Rueben and my wife had the fresh cheeseburger. Both were delicious!

Courtney K.

Yelp
Bottom Line: Super casual and friendly cafe quickly serving comforting food. My husband and I arrived in Silverton via the D&SNG railroad and seeing as how Kendall Mountain Cafe had the best Yelp reviews we made the trek to the end of town in the rain to visit Kendall Mountain Cafe. Breakfast is served until 11am and there are lots of tasty sounding breakfast options but we were there for lunch which had a more limited menu. Lunch options included some sandwiches, a burger, a Frito Pie special and perhaps a soup. I ordered a Reuben sandwich which isn't something I usually eat but I thoroughly enjoyed it! I think Kendall Mountain Cafe has converted me into someone who likes sauerkraut. Service was friendly and attentive and since we didn't have much time in Silverton I appreciate how quickly our food came out.

Martin ..

Yelp
Great little place for a relaxing breakfast or lunch. Good food and friendly service.

Yelp
Hidden treasure off the beaten path? (as the cover on the menu says). Or was it the only restaurant open in town? After canvassing the little town of Silverton, we're fairly certain it was the only place open, but a pleasant surprise at that! As soon as we stepped inside we could see it was pretty packed. It's a small place and there were maybe a total of 6 or more tables...one didn't have any chairs perhaps for social distancing. Lucky for us there was an open table by the front window. The menu items looked good but were minimal...kinda wished we had come for breakfast but oh well...maybe next time. I got a BLT and my hubby ordered a Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich. BLT was well...a BLT. My hubby loved his Philly Cheese Steak...said it was super flavorful. He dug the homemade curly fries...I ordered them as my side and he devoured them. I love me some fries but they were too soft and not crispy for my liking so I took a pass. Overall, it was a decent lunch. Service was great and our waitress was very friendly and professional. This is off-season for the town so it explains why many places were closed. Would love to come back to Kendall Mountain Cafe when things are kicking and the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Train is up and running again next month. Hoping they'll expand their menu, but if not we'll still come back...overall it's a solid restaurant in the beautiful and quaint mountain town of Silverton.

Yelp
Great food! Loved their Biscuits and Gravy, Nice staff ! The place is very small and packed. They really need a better way of crowd control. They need to do a waitlist with pagers or cell phone alerts.

Yelp
I love supporting businesses such as Kendall Mountain Cafe. This is family owned and operated, with two daughters pitching in as servers. I stopped by after running a Saturday race, and the father is running the Sunday race (I was wearing my backpack which still had the bib pinned to it, which prompted the conversation). The mother put me at a four top even though I was dining alone, saying that was all she had, and she was so welcoming there was no issue with a solo guest. The place is down to earth, not pretentious, as if you had stepped into this family's basement. The prices are so reasonable I left a 75% tip, because I don't see how they can make enough money to survive. The food was excellent. You can tell from the menu this is home cooking in the best sense. The special was Frito Pie. I have had that before, at a potluck picnic where someone cut open a bag of Frito's to dump in chili. Here, it was in a bowl on a plate, allowing you eat it either in the bowl or on the plate. I would have liked some sour cream, but that is a quibble. I ordered a side salad to be healthy. It was plated with care you wouldn't expect, laid out in a circular pattern. I had a Sprite served in a fountain cup, consistent with the nothing fancy ethos. I don't know Silverton well. But I can see from this visit that the town is about three blocks long. It is a great destination for outdoor activities. The races this weekend are one of many in the area. Kendall Mountain Cafe fits in. This establishment exemplifies the vibe here.

Yelp
Very good hamburger, apparently breakfast is epic. Friendly staff, a nice place to eat whennin silverton.

Yelp
In Silverton working and stopped in here for breakfast. Had ham and eggs and it was delicious. The toast was toasted perfectly and the potatoes were perfectly crunchy. Fantastic service and a great mountain vibe!! The wood stove in the dining room is awesome!!

Brandi C.

Yelp
Everything we had was delicious! Definitely try the curly fries and apple pie! Alice was awesome!

Josh L.

Yelp
Amazing!!!!! Very friendly staff. Food was amazing. I got the Philly. The fries are spectacular. We enjoyed this place and recommend to anyone.

Adam L.

Yelp
Some of the most amazing green chili I have ever had in my life. A breakfast worth driving the pass for!

Andrea M.

Yelp
Kendall Mountain cafe was a Silverton delight!! My family and I were beyond pleased with our entire meals we raved about it the rest of the trip! I ordered the Reuben and it was love at first bite, I wish I could go back to my very first taste because it was phenomenal. It was a masterpiece of a melty sandwich consisting of corned beef, rye bread, sauerkraut, Russian dressing, and Swiss cheese (all homemade). My parents ordered cheeseburgers and my mom was beyond impressed with the pickles! They were the size of half dollars and my mom couldn't believe it! It reminded my parents of the good-ol' days when burgers were made fresh to order. Fresh, homemade curly fries complimented every meal. When we go back to Silverton (which we will) I will undoubtedly make another stop for a wonderful lunch!

Toria M.

Yelp
YUMMMYYYY! My family and I came over the holiday weekend & the food was DELICIOUS & was flavorful!!!! They were superb on service! It's a small place with outdoor seating & only one chef in the kitchen but the wait wasn't long! You would think with soo many people that the food quality wouldn't be as good or service would be limited but no! HOME MADE FRIIIIIEEEESSS YALLLL!!! Very very kind staff! Seasoned burger and delicious philly cheese steak! When we come back to Silverton this is a MUST & only 7 minute walking distance or so from the train station

David A.

Yelp
The ditsy server was more interested in reading the ceiling tile while listening to what the previous customer had in yesterday's coffee than getting our order correct. Stop somewhere else for a quick cup of coffee vs this places cup of dregs.

Denise Y.

Yelp
Fabulous Burger with curly fries. Wonderful customer service. Nice relaxing spot at the picnic table for lunch.

Lisa B.

Yelp
There are limited choices in Silverton. I read reviews prior to our train ride and decided for a spot a few blocks from the train drop off. We arrived in between breakfast/lunch service so we're told to wait outside until they could switch over. A couple others arrived and went inside, but apparently weren't asked to wait outside like us, or just didn't listen to the single wait person who was working. The place is small, and short staffed. We were a table of two so when it was obvious they had switched to lunch, we went back in and found one of 2 tables left. The server was very friendly, and helpful. The wait was pretty long and the food was ok. Nothing spectacular stood out, but it was a nice lunch in a nice mountain town.

Rachel S.

Yelp
We rode the train into Silverton, and decided to try to find something not right off the main area due to over crowded with everyone getting off the train. Thanks to Yelp, we found the Kendall Mountain Cafe. It quickly filled up after we were seated, they do have outdoor seating, and about 7-8 tables inside. Home cooking, done right. We tried our friends Rubeun sandwich, and it was out of this world! My husband and I got the BLT, one with homemade potato salad and the other with curly fries. The portion size of fries was great, able to share! Waitress was so kind, busting her butt working, the only one but doing a great job and getting everyone situated and taken care of. Worth the walk from train drop off.

Yelp
BEST Pancakes ever!! I know pancakes as a Mother who made them for the boys for years. The breakfast was great. Eggs and bacon cooked just right. One awesome waitress who hustled. There was a 10 minute wait but that was fine. You have the option at some tables (if it is OK with you) to dine with other travelers. Love that. Great coffee too. Will be back!!

Tim P.

Yelp
This is a great place. The food was excellent. We had the cheese steak. The staff was very friendly and hustling to keep things moving. The best rated place in town for a reason.

John P.

Yelp
I have been to Silverton. Ate at a couple restaurants. Actually spent the night. I Haven't seen the pictures mentioned, of dark and brown individuals that seemingly have been murdered. I do however live in America and am quite aware of whats going on in Chicago and its not racism. Its BLACK on BLACK crime, plain and simple.

Jo Ann F.

Yelp
Food is great and service was awesome. Off the beaten path but we'll worth it. Felt right at home.

Jen P.

Yelp
Delicious breakfast and friendly service. Each of our party of six were very pleased with our meals. The portions are large and flavorful. There were a variety of options for breakfast. Although the restaurant is small and we had to wait for a table, we appreciated the personalized and friendly service we received.

Kimberly C.

Yelp
Always good breakfast. Great service for 2 gals running around for every table. Always friendly and happy. It's such a great place to go. Thanks again - yearly visit from AZ

Jessica M.

Yelp
What a wonderful find! The food was excellent, a home cooked meal! Our server was also the hostess, busser, dishwasher and I'm sure much more while her son cooked up the delicious Huevos Ranchero for us, they even split it for us without asking and didn't charge the split plate fee other places commonly do!

Dave S.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast. Huevos Rancheros with tasty green chili, great service, and a breakfast burrito. Good portion of breakfast potatoes on the side.

Kami R.

Yelp
Has great costumer service, great food and is a perfect place for dogs. Has a nice shady area with trees and they give out water to the dogs

Cari A.

Yelp
Service was great, we were a party of 10 and .... Food fresh and delicious. The Green Chili smother for the Huevos Ranchero and breakfast burrito was out of this world delicious. Biscuits and gravy were awesome... thanks for a great start to our day.....

Arthur S.

Yelp
Enjoyed this cozy spot on the edge of Silverton for lunch after a morning on the train. Alice greeted our party of 8 and recommended the Reuben, which was life changing. My son had the burger and said it was the best he had ever had! I think it was a hit.

Janice T.

Yelp
We chose this restaurant because it was away from the super busy train area. They were still very busy and understaffed. Our waitress was the only one working the entire restaurant and outside eating area. She was moving at light speed and deserves a huge raise for what she was doing. We both had the BLT that was very good. There was lots of bacon although it was a bit greasy.

Mathew H.

Yelp
Fast and friendly service. Felt welcome from the time we entered the door. Simple menu. Open for breakfast and lunch only.

Tom W.

Yelp
There are very few places ooen for breakfast in Silverton, but this is probably the best. Good food. Good service. Expect to wait if you you're not there early. Very limited seating.

Sandy P.

Yelp
Busy local cafe at the north end of Silverton. Food was good and we liked supporting a local family business.

Bill B.

Yelp
Really, outstanding food and an exceptionally nice staff. my wife and I both thought our breakfast there was the best we had ever had anywhere.

Tim M.

Yelp
An absolutely amazing cheeseburger and fries. A small, family owned restaurant with great food. Alice was a wonderful hostess

Kristen B.

Yelp
5 stars for service 4 for food 3 ultimately because we handed the credit card over before seeing the check. 10 philly cheesesteak (5 stars btw!) 11 rueben (4.5 stars) 1.50 sub fries. No potatoe salad or beans at 2pm on Friday. 2 drinks and our total before tip was $37! Sorry but coke doesnt cost $5 bucks does it?

Kimberly H.

Yelp
Best breakfast in town. Our waitress dumped an entire glass of water on one person in our party on accident but even with that happening (the waitress was about to cry she was so sorry) the food was so on point both days we ate there - I have to give five stars. Coffee was perfect. Bacon is great. Sausage was good. Eggs cooked to order and perfection on every plate each time we ate here. Good size portions of food and price was better than another place we ate in town for breakfast. Highly recommend for breakfast!

Jason J.

Yelp
We give five stars to places that we would go out of our way to visit again and this is definately one of those places. The menu was limited but adequate. However, everyone loved their food. The burgers were some of the best we've had. Also enjoyed the BLT. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was small town and a bit like a dive, but the taste and staff make it a place we definitely return to in the future.

Russell R.

Yelp
A short walk from the depot but worth every step. We enjoyed Kendall Mountain Cafe so much and the waitstaff were exceptionally nice people and the food was outstanding. A no frills Rocky Mountain Cafe that serves us some seriously good eats. Plenty of good photo stops along the way as well.

Teri B.

Yelp
One of the best breakfast places in Silverton! The blueberry pancakes were off the hook delicious! Also had the breakfast sandwich! Yummy my boyfriend had the basic breakfast eggs and sausage! That sausage had the best flavor! Prices are excellent too! It's a little house that was made into a restaurant but it's set up just adorable! Our server was just the sweetest person ever! Please go in and try it! You will be writing your own great reviews!! Good coffee too

Earl F.

Yelp
Alice is the best waitress and greeter with plenty of energy and smiles. She makes the Kendall Mountain Cafe extraordinary!
