Keneke's Grill at Punaluu

I had been wanting to go to this establishment for a while since I’d passed it in my car, and it looked like a great local place to eat. I was not disappointed! My family and I split the Lunch Special, which includes two cheeseburgers and a drink for a very good price. I was surprised to find out that Keneke’s Grill is actually an extension of a farm that operates behind the restaurant premises. My family and I, especially my son, appreciated the goats in the backyard. The food was good and had great prices. The staff were very kind to us, especially my son. The atmosphere is fantastic, embodying an old-school-diner spirit on the inside of the building and functioning as a family farm on the outside. The business also appears to be owned by a Christian family, and they sell organic food. What more can you ask for? My only gripe is that they ran out of the goat-milk soap they sell!

Driving by and saw a Tour Bus out front so figured it had to be good. This may not be for everyone as it is a farm with a restaurant and " Chicks and ducks....scurry" around the outside dining tables. Didn't see any goats but the sign says they can't be trusted. I like critters so it enhanced the experience. The good news is that the Hawaiian BBQ chicken breasts were the best I have ever tasted. Not tangy but perfectly sweet, complex and delicious. Rice was fantastic and the Hawaiian macaroni salad was a perfect match. The serving size is humongous 3 meals worth for me. It would take a big man to eat it all in one sitting. I know you guys are out there, but the rest of us will leave with a doggie bag. If you have Christian Phobia you may not enjoy "The writing on the wall"

By far the best service we received on the island was at Keneke’s. I didn’t catch her name but she was so kind, thoughtful, and welcoming to my family. Truly just above and beyond. No one else treated us with such kindness the entire trip. The food of course was INCREDIBLE! The kalua pig plate lunch is my favorite, we also had bbq chicken and shrimp plates. 10/10

Keneke's Grill in Punaluu is an adorable, unpretentious local eatery with an island country charm. It's a local favorite sincethe 1980s. Many locals are familiar with Keneke's in Waimanalo, and so the Punaluu restaurant is one in the same. We enjoyed the relaxed wholesome atmosphere , the delicious food, and the wonderful service from our server Fish (honestly, that's his name). We ordered the Delux cheeseburger special and the Big Red plate special with a side of large garlic fries 😋😋😋 Yummy 😋Their food servings are really generous. A choice place for local plate lunches and more.

This was by far one of the best meals I had on O'ahu. The pork was amazing, but the real star of the meal was the fish. It's a really nice place, everyone was friendly, and most importantly the food was delicious.

The food was great, especially the combo we had of coconut shrimp and the kalua pig plate. My sister got the bacon cheeseburger and said the bacon was on the saltier side but she ate the whole thing :) The establishment could use a lot of TLC in the cleaning department — it may be off putting to some. We opted to eat outdoors which was a fun experience with the free roaming goats and chickens in the back. Worth a try!

Was a little skeptical when we walked in the place. Could definitely use some renovation. Prices are cheap for Hawaii. Food was great. One of the few places I ate with the local cuisine. Plenty of options. Food seem to be fresh in flavorful

The food was very good much better than the shrimp shack down the road ! The place looks a little shabby but the food is excellent which is what counts . It’s a local farm and they have goats in the back . They sell homemade goat soap as well.

No shaved ice was a huge let down. The food was just ok. Place is run down and dirty. Service was fine. But don't think we'll come back. Better places for burgers and plate lunches with shaved ice. The best thing were the animals.

Let me start with the staff, they were all very nice and wonderful hosts. The ambience is a farm. It's literally a farm with animals, which do not smell great. There is an outside seating area out back that's far enough away, it's a decent area to eat at. The Kailua Pig was very tender but lacked a sauce that complimented it. The serving was HUGE. The burger deal got us in and two of my threes sons said they tasted bad and didn't eat much. One son said it was decent and he was "starving" so he's eat almost anything.

I got a bbq pork sandwich, i choked it down, bun was soggy. My wife got a hamburger which she had one bite of and threw away. Tables were full of dirt and a dirty cat was on the table. Do not recommend.

My wife and I were on vacation and had already been on the island for a few days. We stopped at the "original" Keneke's but they said they didn't have any garlic shrimp. We decided to continue our counter-clockwise drive around the island and stopped at this location. There was plenty of open parking on a fairly rainy Tuesday, and there weren't many other people there. We later found out that the other people there were ordering wedding food as this place does catering as well. We ordered the garlic shrimp plate with fries to split and got a couple of drinks. I have to downgrade this place by a star due to whatever mess they had going on at the drink counter. I'm not sure exactly what it was but it looked like it hadn't been thoroughly cleaned in a while. Everything else about the place seemed clean though. When the food arrived, I thought they had thrown a bunch of rice over our shrimp and fries. I soon realized it was minced garlic piled high in the plate. I thought it was delicious. My wife said it was the best meal of our 12 day vacation. I strongly recommend the food, but I hope they clean up whatever was going on at the back of the drink counter.

Stopped at Keneke's for lunch because our first choice of restaurant was closed. As soon as we entered the set up seemed weird. You can tell that they haven't had the place fixed up for probably years! Looked at the menu and my boyfriend ordered Loco Moco. I decided to order the garlic shrimp which was a special that day. After ordering we decided to eat in the back room with all these scriptures painted on the wall. My boyfriend said we should sit at this certain table with a floral arrangement on it, but I didn't sit down cause a sign caught my eye that said the catered for funerals and looking at the flower arrangement I thought it must have come from a funeral. So we sat at another table instead. Our food came out after a little while since we were the only ones in there. Being hungry I couldn't wait to try the food, but after one bite the garlic shrimp was so very salty! I must have eaten only 3 shrimps and stopped eating. My boyfriend let me try his Loco Moco, and that tasted good, but then he gave me a piece again and the beef tasted gnarly! Sorry but I won't be coming back. We both threw our plates away. Let's just say I wish we had stopped somewhere else.

Stopped in April 2025. Yes it is rustic and there are goats, flies are a given. The prime rib lunch and bbq chicken lunch were delicious and extremely large. Be sure to ask about the special of the day. Service was extremely friendly

The burgers are not hand made, well they don't look like they are. They look like your frozen Mays Pattie's, if you're from Hawaii you know what I'm talking about. Prices are pretty high. The service is okay. Nice country dinning inside and outside. There is a bathroom. I love the Bible verses that are hand written on the walls inside the dining area.

Whoa! Never again. I did like the kind young man working the counter and that brought out our food. I also enjoyed the animals there. As far as the food....not edible and went straight into the trash. One bite of the burger was enough and the garlic fries are mushy with mountains of raw garlic piled on. Absolutely disgusting and hideous. The place is also very dirty inside and out. The animals are adorable but their food is horrible.

Left the Polynesian Cultural Center and saw what I thought was a hole in the wall...those type of places usually have amazing food. Boy was I wrong. I should have listened to previous Yelpers. The drink machine could definitely use a cleaning but that was neither here nor there. Ordered a grilled cheese, hamburger and cheeseburger to go. They charge for deluxe and although I said no onions my burger came with it anyway. One bite. That was all I needed to determine the meat was NOT fresh. It was actually a bit old. It seemed like 90s cafeteria mystery meat. In the wrapping it was actually as flat as the grilled cheese. The fries were hard and semi-burnt. And yet, I took another bite to confirm this ain't it. I didn't have a problem with all the scriptures but I do not recommend you go taste and see what they are making.

Don't waste your time and money. My husband ordered a cheeseburger with garlic fries and I ordered a Pork Adobo plate lunch with rice and Mac. The pork adobo plate had the occasional piece dry meat mixed in with plenty of huge chunks of fat. Mac was terrible and needed a mountain of salt just to be edible. Paid $16.00 for the three bites I was able to stomach before throwing it away. The cheeseburger was plain had no flavor and lacked any reason to charge $6. What they lacked in salt they made up for in garlic as the fries tasted like taking a bite out of a garlic clove.

Extremely rude. So rude we left in the middle of ordering. Don't know if the food is good or not. Couldn't get past the server being rude to our young family members.

Had kenekes cater our wedding early November. The food was delicious! Everyone raved about the guava chicken and the ube mashed potatoes. As someone coming from mainland they were pretty aloha on the response timing but it was so worth it! We had the tasting at their location, but don't let it fool you they were great with coordinating at the wedding and letting us know in advance exactly what they needed. They cook onsite and only require a tent + lights which was way better than any of the other caterers in terms of additional amount of work. They also let us substitute certain items as we wanted a little more seafood in our menu that people wouldn't necessarily get to try on the island.

Really enjoyed the made to order food! It was delicious and fresh. The plates were big, so we were stuffed when we left. The ambiance was peaceful

Food pretty good and portions are generous but the inside is dark and dirty and outside area also really dirty. There is a a weeks worth of chicken poop on the table.easy fix to make this a great road side hot spot.

A little shocked when stepping into the dining area. Place was dark and the atmosphere was rather uncomfortable, not open and airy, and looked like it had been abandoned both indoor and outdoor. Much better feeling after ring the bell to order with attentive staff. He was nice and polite. Self service for the drink at the station and got served the food at the table. Got 2 orders of the mixed plate (2 different choices of meat) and I chose steamed rice and mac salad for side. Foods were delicious and reasonable price especially BBQ Chicken is a must!!

I really loved everything about this place. The food was good, the price was very reasonable, and the farm outback was absolutely amazing! I will 100% be back in the summer.

Nice service and good food. It's reasonably priced for Hawaii and there are a good amount of protein choices. They gave us a lot of food. Would have been nice if they had outdoor seating.

Absolutely, hands down the most DISCUSTING place i have ever been in. The soda machine table was black, I don't know if it was grease or just mud. We chose to sit outback because the building was gross. It was all bad! The flies, the animal poo smell, the living condicondition of the billy goats and just the overall place. The poor sickly kittens that they keep shooing away. The building is in serious need of repair. We chose not to eat because of the condition. No one had anything good to say about the food. I don't know how anyone was able to eat with that smell and the grossness growing on the cement. Unfortunately they teamed up with one of the tour busses so we were stuck with that for lunch instead of being able to go to the shrimp farm which was on the tour list

Food 3 - My son loved his Kailua pig, my wife got the NY steak plate, was good. The burger was not great, my daughter didn't finish it (which is rare), Teri beef was pretty good. Service 4 lady that worked there was super nice. Ambiance - 2.5 Has so much potential, if they just got rid of some stuff. Outside seating seemed nice, but chickens to fight off, one even jumped on the table, so assume they do that, when people aren't there. Would I eat there again yes, but I'd get it to go.

You know, I was very disappointed at first. I had kalbi on my mind. When I arrived I didn't even look at the menu, I wanted Kalbi and that's what I was ordering but they don't serve Kalbi at this location :( I ended up with the BBQ chicken and it was very tasty and a generous portion.

Very delicious food here this spot is super cute and is on a farm like lot of land. The service is pretty basic and gets the job done. The location is prime and I want to have a wedding reception out back because of how unreal the views and scenery is. 8/10. WOULD GO BACK. Amazing Mac salad and garlic shrimp- definitely more on the buttery side if you like that.

Walked in this evening looking for a yummy bite to eat after a hike. Was not greeted when we walked in, place was not clean, but was willing to give this place a chance. I got the teriyaki chicken and coconut shrimp which was served with rice, macaroni salad, and pieces of lettuce which I am unsure were supposed to be even be there. My friend got Kalua Pig Pork with rice and fries. Opening our lunch was quite disappointing. The business has posters about supporting local businesses. Although as a local here I recommend driving the extra twenty minutes elsewhere for authentic Hawaiian food.

Cheap eats while you explore Oahu! Decent grub at an affordable price! I recommend you stop if you need a quick bite to eat. Friendly staff, an easy to locate business right off the highway. 2 deluxe cheese burgers later and I'm ready to continue exploring Oahu.

Amazing authentic food! Huge plate. Affordable and great service. Dine in or to go, the place is great. Loved the natural setting with chickens making sounds outside. Saw cute baby chicks. Highly recommend.

4th of July 2019. Kenekes Grill at Punaluu. We ordered the day's $8.99 lunch specials: hamburger steak and teriyaki chicken. Although the hamburger steak was cooked well, it had no taste, it's gravy also bland. The chicken was cooked well too, however, the teriyaki sauce could have more of a kick to it. Sides were macaroni salad which was also bland and loaded with too much mayo. Tossed salad with it's house dressing. Fries. A drink was included. Also got their special 2 for $5 teriyaki hamburger deluxe and a cheeseburger deluxe. The patties were very thin. "Where's the beef" comes to mind. Food was mediocre. Waited a long time for food, 45 minutes! They were under staffed and the employee was apologetic. The restaurant setting was nice and cool with a TV to keep us entertained. There are outdoor seating tables as well. They had goats and chickens in the backyard. Restroom clean.

We used Keneke's for our wedding. It was amazing!! The pupus passed out during cocktail hour were incredible and we couldn't get enough of the poke! The staff was so kind and helpful. All of our guests have commented on how good the food was and how much they appreciated the staff. Thank you Keneke's for catering our wedding! We would highly recommend!!

My family and I love to eat here every time we visit. Food is delicious, service is awesome, and the location is breathtaking! When we dine inside my kids love to read the scriptures that are written on the walls. Out side the views are to die for. I always look forward to coming back here

A great little roadside restaurant that my family enjoyed after touring Kualoa Ranch. Kids had cheeseburger, fries, and coconut shrimp and loved it. Wife and I shared two meats, teriyaki beef and the pork. The guy who took our order was so nice, too. My son wanted lemonade, but they were out. He quickly changed it! Oh, and they have chickens and goats in the field out back! 100% would go back!!

Keneke's provided the food for mine and my wife's wedding and we are incredibly happy with how the entire process went. We had researched several local food companies but none provided the competitive food selection or pricing that Keneke's offered. Our main point of contact was Miga; she was incredibly helpful and professional and stayed on top of every plan change (i.e. headcount, dessert exclusion, appetizer inclusion, etc.) On the day of the wedding, we received nothing but positive reviews from the food itself. If you're looking for competitively priced and delicious food, we highly recommend Keneke's for any catering event you may have.

I and my friend decided to explore the island a few Saturdays ago and we end up at this roadside restaurant because there was gridlock traffic. I order the 2 choices mixed plate ($12), this option allows you 2 choices of meat and 2 sides (rice, fries, mac or tossed salad). There are a lot of choices for meat (from shrimp to beef), I end up deciding on Teriyaki Beef and the Pacific Whitefish for my meats and rice and mac salad for my 2 sides. The Teriyaki Beed was more on the salty side, like a lot of plate lunches, but the sauce was really good and the sauce was a little thicker, which I like. They also give a good amount of beef. The fish was grill really good and is my favorite out of the two portions of meat, not to say that the Teriyaki isn't good. The fish was flavored with garlic and the garlic was really strong and really impacted the fish. I'm really impressed because a lot of food establishment makes the fish really dry. the fish here is nice and moist. Another reason why I like this fish soo much is that the garlic was very noticeable in the dish, which is pretty good. The mac salad and rice is pretty standard, nothing wrong with it but also nothing special. It's something you will find at pretty much every plate lunch place. The parking lot is really beaten up, lots of big potholes everywhere, therefore be careful when you drive on this road. In addition, the restaurant is a little run down, because it's old, and it doesn't have AC. BE CAREFUL THAT YOU DON'T LET FLYS IN. I don't have a problem with this as long as the food is properly prepped and stored, basically, as long as I don't get sick I'm okay. The lady is also very nice. I highly recommend this place if you just so happen to pass by this area, the food is excellent.

Very friendly counter person! Choices are reasonably priced, and nice area outside to enjoy your lunch, with some goats, and animals they have on property. Also have goat soap to purchase!

After a beach day, we went to pick up take out from Kenekes Punaluu , the food is good . They have lunch plates includes a 22 oz drink for $8.99. Choose one entree item with rice or fries and toss salad or mac salad. Thank you, we enjoyed the food! The lady who took our order super friendly and nice! Thank you, we will come again! Glad you are open!

Amazing food, service and staff that all my wedding guests enjoyed! Keneke's was very easy to work with and was very quick to answer any questions I had pertaining to the choices for my wedding menu. The spread at the wedding was better than I imagined! The pig carving station is always fun to be served from and just tastes fresher! The rest of the food, from the guava chicken to the opakapaka fish was cooked really well and we received many compliments from our guests during the wedding! It is always great to hear that guests loved the food but it is also proven by seeing many guests get up for 2nd helpings! Thank you Keneke's for providing wonderful food and service and I recommend them for your wedding if you are wanting great food with a great price!

Looks can be deceiving, but once you order some Ono grinds from this place you'll keep this one in the back of your pocket.

I usually don't patronize restaurants with owners that have ultra-religious views(chick fil a etc) but we already ordered our food before going to the dining area with biblical quotes all over the walls. Kinda spooky if you ask me. Anyway ordered the bbq chicken and pork adobo mix plate. The chicken was really tasty with a bit of char that I liked. The adobo was dry as hell though took one bite threw the rest away. The Mac salad had too much mayo for my tastes. I wouldn't return.

Get the coconut shrimp. It's very good! The view driving to this spot is nice, that you might miss it. We did a tasting here for our wedding and the food is really good, most of the stuff is local also. They have a nice size yard to eat outside. There are goats and chicken roaming around sometimes, super cute. We didn't try other food here other than coconut shrimp, since we did the tasting. But definitely recommend if you're considering tasting. The people are also professional & nice.

4/25/19- Looking for a place to eat on the north shore and decided we should check this place out. We visit the one in Waimanalo all the time. So we check their times to see what time they open till. Everyday it says they are open till 8pm. So we head out there and it's 7:03pm. Come to find out, they are closed. Not sure why as there is no signs or anything saying why they are closed early. Well I guess I can't say anything more since we got no food but they should update their hours or write a sign on why they are closed? Update: 4/26/19 I was told by one of the workers that they have been closing early, anywhere from 6 pm to 7pm due to it being slow. She also said they have been working 12 hour shifts and also working the catering side so they can't wait to go home early. So if you plan on heading down to this place, please call in advance to see if they are open or not, as their closing times varies. As for the food, I ordered a mixed plate combo. Chicken katsu and hamburger steak. It comes with rice and either Mac salad or toss salad. The Chicken Katsu was just ok. Nothing really special, but mines was a little over cooked so it was semi hard. And the hamburger steak wasn't good at all. It was salty and texture was like rubber. Had no flavor other than the salt. Not sure how these other reviewers gave them either 4 or 5 stars. There are better places down the street that I would recommend than this place.

Wow! I guess we looked hungry because the portions were huge!!!! We choose the Mochiko Chicken /fries and the Mixed Plate (2 different choices of meat) pulled pork/shrimp with rice and salad. I think our total was around $32 and includes soft drinks . Very reasonable . This is a local spot we came across on the side of the road. Food was great (the Mochiko chicken was slightly fatty and salty in spots but I could eat around it since I had so much) Stick with the thicker pieces of chicken and you will be just fine. This fueled us up great for our day of adventuring with no reservations needed. - Tip: Call in is available if you want to pick up and go-

Came here twice! Lol it was that good! The hospitality here is over the roof. I love the family atmosphere and felt like I was home. The second time I returned I had the bbq chicken and daughter in law had the loco moco which looked huge and good. The shave ice here is amazing and the best on the island. North shore was my favorite area so maybe I'm a little biased lol i wish the owners all the best. God bless you!

I cannot believe I denied myself here for so long! Everytime we've driven around the island, I've always wanted to try "that random red restaurant!" Let me start off by saying, we only got to eat breakfast here. We finished camping at Malaekahana, and left fairly early on a Monday morning, starving (hehe) and I remembered Kenekes! Side note- at 900 am on a weekday, it's difficult to find someplace that's open to eat. Look for the red restaurant on the side of the road! Heads up, you'll be parking on a fairly rocky (possibly muddy) area. Order your food at the counter, and you'll be blessed with giant portions of spectacular food. Planning on hitting here another time for lunch and dinner-I think they offer specials :) Dont miss out!

We used Keneke's for my wedding. The pupus were amazing and everyone had complements about how good the food was as well! So glad we decided to use them for our wedding day. They were really easy to work with and when we stopped by the Punaluu location prior to the wedding day to eat the staff was so friendly!

I pass Kenekes all the time and have never stopped. After being tired of saying "one day", I pulled in with my friend and her kids. We didnt know what to expect. Super glad we finally pulled the plug and stopped in. So many choices that we had to get a little of everything. I was surprised at the choices on the menu. Seriously, something for everyone. Prices are affordable and the service is filled with aloha. We talked story the entire time our food was being made. The kids enjoyed their burgers and fries and we enjoyed our meals as well. My friend ordered the shrimp and loved the flavor. I ordered a burger to start with (first time and all-wanted to play it safe), and was pleasantly surprised. The fries are golden and crisp, the burger juicy and flavorful. Definitely brought on the meat sweats from the amount of food we received. No one was able to finish their meal.
