We visited Kennebec Tavern today and ended up standing in line for about 25 minutes. We assumed the wait was because the restaurant was busy and full—but when we were finally seated, we realized the place was actually dead, with very few people inside. No one on staff acknowledged the wait, apologized, or offered any explanation. Even a quick “Sorry for the delay” would have gone a long way, but nothing was said.
While we waited, staff members casually laughed about how the line was out the door, which didn’t feel very welcoming. When we were finally seated, we were led to the patio—but instead of walking us to our table, the server simply pointed and said, “Your table’s over there in the corner.”
The deck itself was beautiful, and the view was lovely, but the service left a lot to be desired. We ordered alcoholic drinks for the four of us—three of them tasted watered down and unpleasant, and the fourth (a glass of wine) was the only one that was decent. The food was fine—nothing terrible, but nothing that justified the price.
Every time we asked our waitress a question, she didn’t seem to know the answer, as if she had never waited tables before. Overall, Kennebec Tavern has a great location and view, but the service, drink quality, and complete lack of hospitality made it a disappointing experience.
