If you are looking to stay in a historic location that defines your Kennebunkport experience, this is it. From the moment we stepped in we were welcomed and well taken care of. This place has a fantastic mix of historic and modern that makes you feel transported and incredibly comfortable. While it is a little expensive, the rooms were spacious and comfortable. We visited during off season and will definitely visit in the summer when the town is more alive.

I can not say enough about how beautiful my stay was at Kennebunkport Captains Collection. Kristen and her team thought of everything. This was one of my favorite experiences in New England! I encourage everyone to stay there and make sure you eat their breakfast, so delicious!

My husband and I came here for a little two night get away after our wedding. We have stayed here multiple times in just about every property they have and each time it gets better! The rooms are so cozy and spacious! Also the perfect amount of privacy! It’s especially nice because it has such “inn” vibe! However each time we stay the most important aspect is Kristen! She is always working and happens to be the general manager! She is constantly checking in and making sure our stay is nothing but the best, each time making it that more memorable! She has got to be the glue that holds that collection together! We can’t wait for our next stay and to see her again!

I went on a gals trip just before Christmas. We stayed in the William Jefferds house. Our stay was impeccable the staff especially Patti and Kristen made our stay unforgettable. The soaking tub, in room fireplace and the christmas tree in my room made for the perfect winter getaway. I'm looking forward to my next stay and will forever recommend the captains collection.

What a wonderful hotel, the antidote for those tired of corporate hotel groups. Our suite at the Nathaniel Lord Mansion was quirky and sumptuous. We loved the Victorian steps we needed to get into bed!||Beautiful and private with vast lawns to enjoy late afternoon drinks ( there is a select wine store at the end of the road) we had a thoroughly relaxing time. Even took advantage of the free bikes to ride round the town. ||Breakfast was lovely with freshly baked goodies and coffee available at all times. Highly recommend

Google
Such a wonderful place! My only regret is not booking more nights! Check in was easy, and our room was ready early. We had a fantastic little treat waiting in our room (Fairfield Suite) and there were cookies in the hallway. The bathroom was huge and I loved the deep tub! The robes were also fun to relax in, and I like that there's a semi private porch. Tea and yogurt was available all the time in our house, and breakfast was a baked egg casserole and some bread, fruit, and cheese. The floors in the house do creak a bit but I was not bothered by other occupants, just worried I was bothering them! I absolutely would stay here again.

Google
Great location, cute hotel, wonderful breakfast. It was hard to regulate the temperature in the room which is probably standard for a house as old as it is but it made sleeping a little tough because it got really hot. I also wish there was an option to log in to Netflix on the TV. All around a great stay and we’d stay again. The bikes were wonderful to have.

Just had a wonderful short stay at the Jefferds property in the Kennebunkport Captains Collection. It’s a lovely updated B&B, bright with great design details and 2 beautiful gathering areas with fireplaces. Rooms are attractive but vary in size so keep that in mind when reserving. Service was thoughtful, friendly, and efficient. Its location is perfect to walk to all of downtown KBPT’s cute shops and several tasty restaurants. Do go visit!!!

Yelp
I loved my stay here! The homes are beautifully restored and decorated perfectly! I did a solo trip here and have another booked for next summer. I felt completely safe here and never had to move my car, except to go to the beach. It's incredibly walkable to the shopping center and surrounding restaurants and the walk up the cliff toward the bush compound. This is my 6th year coming to Kennebunk/Kennebunkport and now that I've found this gem, it will always be where I stay in town! The staff was incredible and I loved that guests had access to the kitchens in the houses to store leftovers and that water was left out for guests! The breakfast was also incredible and loved being able to sit out on the lawn and be able to enjoy my meal and to come back in the afternoon and just relax in the sun. I also had a late checkin and the staff made it incredibly easy to get in on my own. I really appreciate the little welcome gift that was waiting on me in my room! I highly recommend this place to anyone and literally everyone I meet. Will forever stay with this hotel group if I'm in a city they have a location! Side note: I overheard a conversation of 2 guests that weren't happy that it wasn't decorated like it should have been to be authentic, but with a quick look at the website, you can tell what you're getting, so just make sure you're booking the right place for you!

Yelp
Our stay at the Kennebunkport Captions Collection was so amazing! The hotel has a historic charm that is felt as soon as you step inside. The modern upgrades they've made to all of the beautiful homes in the collection are so luxurious. The staff went above and beyond to make our first wedding anniversary so magical! We can't wait to come back!!

Yelp
We loved our stay at Nathaniel Lord Mansion, part of the Kennebunkport Captains Collection. If you are someone who appreciates history and all things vintage/antique (with added modern conveniences like in-room AC and a large glass shower!) this is the place for you. It is very conveniently located to walk all over Kennebunkport. Our room was a lovely surprise...we were expecting something small but nice, because it was described as the "most petite" room in the building on the website. We were pleasantly surprised that it was a very large room! I can't even imagine how big the other rooms must be. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the room was beautifully furnished. If in Kennebunkport, definitely stay here!

Yelp
When my wife Karin and I were planning a trip to Kenebunkport, we viewed many websites till we selected the Captains Collection located on Pleasant St. (a fitting name indeed). We stayed at the Nathaniel Lord Mansion, named after a Captain and ship builder. The house dates back to 1812. It is the center of the other homes that are part of the Captains Collection. It is the reception hub for the other houses. We stayed in room 22, referred to by Paula as "the room". She was correct. The suite had a large bedroom, living area with tall ceilings and windows. The various drapes, furniture fit the room perfectly. We loved the rounded corners. There was also a fireplace. A bathroom/shower was en suite. Then there was another large room with a jacuzzi, fireplace and two sinks. Luxury. The breakfasts were wonderful, plenty of choices, included fajitas and quiches. There were savory dishes as well as one or two sweet treats. All were tasty. I rarely indulge in sweet foods at breakfast but I couldn't resist the baked goodies. Many varieties of beverages, including the caffeine free teas, were available. In the afternoon, the staff put out freshly baked cookies, chocolate chip with a sprinkle of sea salt were my favorite. In the end, it is the staff that makes the difference here at the Captains Collection. All were pleasant, helpful, always willing to please. Many of them balanced multiple roles and were very good at fulfilling them. Karin and I had an issue, without going into the details, and the staff responded so well. They were kind, accommodating, compassionate and just plain wonderful. We can't thank them enough for their generous service and kindness. We are glad that we chose to stay at the Captains Collection. We had a terrific time.

Yelp
This place was amazing. Customer service was top of the line. Lots of smiles all around by the staff. Breakfast would be something I would frequent if I lived close. The room was cozy and comfortable. Well maintained. But the topping of all of this was the cookies that they put out everyday. Not sure how they got there, maybe a little house elf or something as they just kinda appeared out of no where. I will be emailing them to try to procure the recipe. If they won't give it, I'll just have to return time and time again to eat them. Truth be told, I grabbed like 5 so I could eat them on the way home. The freaking sea salt topping was absurd.

Yelp
Captain Fairfield is a wonderful Inn in a great location. We were able to walk to all of the main bars and restaurants in about 10-15 minutes. The free parking (at least in November during off season) was a huge perk. We really enjoyed the hot and cold breakfast delivered to our door daily. It was some variation of eggs, yogurt, juice, water, fruit and a sweet side. You can eat it at the common spaces throughout the hotel which we opted for. Complimentary Kcups for your in-room Keurig and tea on the main floor was another huge plus. We stayed in Room 5 - Walker which is at the top of the stairs on the second floor. The room was warm and cozy and had a wonderful remote controlled gas fireplace. We could not have been happier with our stay here, especially with such affordable prices. I'd highly recommend staying here.

Yelp
This place is absolutely top-notch. I have never been to a hotel that provides such incredible, personable service. We stayed here for our honeymoon during COVID just about a year ago and had the best time, where we had to go back during a weekend away. Due to an incoming storm, we decided to come up a day early. Unfortunately, our room we planned on staying in was booked for this additional night; however, the team put us in a great room next door. We even arrived with a personalized note welcoming us back. It's really the day of the storm service that blew us away. They let us know that we could stay in the room we stayed at for just a night for however long we needed until our other room would be ready. Additionally, they were providing restaurant recommendations for us and even TEXTED to say what was open and that they would be on the lookout for a particular restaurant we were interested in. I love this place and will always come back. No service has ever compared to here and is worth the price/experience.

Yelp
This is our third visit in a year to the Captain Jefferd's Inn and the Nathaniel Lord House. It's modern, updated, classy and beautiful with great breakfasts and chocolate chip cookies. The In keepers are friendly and efficient and the place is very clean. These gracious, lovely homes make for a wonderful weekend getaway. We enjoy Hurricane or Pedro's for dinner. We're looking forward to many more wonderful stays.

Yelp
My first bed and breakfast stay ever and I could say it was definitely starting at the top. Located in Kennebunkport , a small and sleepy nautical town. We came in the off season which the locals say is the perfect time of year. It was not crowded at all. The weather was also not hot, nor cold, but was a lot windy. The room and the entire mansion was so beautiful. The decor was very antiquey and classic and ornate and beautiful. You can feel and see the history in the walls. But I also was light weight thinking if the place was haunted also. I enjoyed the communal breakfast and meeting the other guests. Albeit they were all RETIRED and Caucasian lol. MY friend JD and I were definitely out of place. But the hosts and other guests were still personable enough. It was nice meeting and chatting with everyone and hearing about where they came from. I love how this is just a place to relax and enjoy the scenery. From the mansion we walked into down town which was just a few blocks away. From there we walked to the beach which was maybe a miles walk or so away. Everything is just very close and convenient. In the house on the bottom floor is a cute little gift shop and in the main floor of the home is a large lounge area to play board games i.e. chess, Chinese checkers, cards. Outside are swings and more seating where you can just bathe in the sun and drink wine. I can't say enough how much I was blown away and surprised. This is definitely a first for me and a very unique and special experience. I would DEFINITELY come back and take my special someone back here . I am not surprised that there are repeat visitors (20-30+ visits) who come back every year multiple times a year.

Yelp
William Jefferds House with the Kennebunkport Captains was a perfectly cute B&B getaway. The renovations took a classic and traditional home and transformed it into a classic modern home while maintaining its charm. We enjoyed our king fireplace room though we did find it a little small for us. Having stayed in B&Bs before we knew it could possibly have thin walls and not be very private but we did not find this to be the case. On the second floor we rarely heard anyone in the hallways and heard some walking noise above us but nothing that woke us from sleep. The bed was comfortable, however, for a boutique inn I would have expected better linens instead of a microfiber polyester. Most boutique inns I've visited boast their frette linens or have a sateen or cotton percale neatly pressed. On the same note, the towels were rough and appeared rather old, not a bright white towel you'd find at other luxury inns/ hotels. This was fine but definitely didn't match the modern, clean and crisp vibe of the rest of the hotel. The breakfast at our inn had a nice simple offering of yogurts, fruit, pastries, overnight oats etc. one of the associated buildings had hot breakfast that was preprepared (eggs wrapped in bacon on spinach), would have liked to get something made to order such as an omelette or choice of egg style. Overall we enjoyed our stay and found the inn quite cozy and think it could be even better with some nicer linens and more personalized breakfast options. The innkeepers were all very friendly and accommodating. If I could I'd give a 3.5-3.8 as it wasn't quite a 4 but definitely wasn't a 3/5.

Yelp
We recently stayed at the Captain Jeffers's Inn and had a wonderful time! The Inn is beautiful, clean & nicely decorated. All of the homes are within walking distance of town and are close to so much by car. There is a parking lot with charging stations but it can get pretty tight when there are a lot of cars. Our room was very nice but on the small side. It had only one very small closet for hanging things but it had a great shower. The bathroom door hit the bed preventing it from opening all the way. Breakfast is self serve but all of the offerings were very good each morning. Sadly, there was no staff member present during breakfast for 4 out of the six & a half days we were there. It's always great to have someone who knows the area including restaurants to give guests advice. We were so lucky that Donna was there for 3 mornings! She was extremely helpful and friendly! Our biggest gripe is that we were only made aware when we were checking out that luggage assistance was available. We were not told this when checking in. For people who have mobility issues, note that it takes a lot of effort to get from the parking lot & up the stairs to your room. There is no elevator. If assistance is available, this should be made clear when you check in. Overall we had a very good experience!!

Yelp
The Captain's Collection is an innovative approach to lodging in a resort town. We could only really fully comprehend the set-up when we got there despite their messaging and the website description. We saw that the corporate owners had purchased a number of big houses, in a nice neighborhood, that are pretty close together, but with other people's properties interspersed. We stayed at the JEFFERDS which seems to have the most muted decor, which is our preference. Our suite has a gas fireplace which is charming and quite useful in late April when the temps outside are low. The bathroom was nicely updated. Pros Nice coffee and tea set-up in the Jeffords kitchen with stuff put out for breakfast. Also, invitation for hot breakfast each day at the main house (Nathaniel Lord Mansion). The kitchen staff were so thoughtful, going above and beyond to please guests. Electric car charging (we did not use). The Wifi was very fast. It is a very short walk into town. Suggestions We would have liked a room safe for our electronic devices. We kept taking them out to the car to lock up when we left the room. Other Given that we stayed on an upper floor we can say it is not for mobility impaired people. Also, the front doors are left unlocked and the staff are stationed at NATHANIEL LORD MANSION so if you have strong preferences about staffing/security this option might not be for you, but we felt fine and very much enjoyed our stay!

Jeffrey M.

Yelp
Excellent place to stay. We arrived a bit early after taking an overnight flight from the west coast and they were very accommodating to allow us to get in to the room as soon as practicable. Excellent location to walk into town and visit the area.

Yelp
I travel quite a bit, and as such, finding unique places to stay is one of my guilty pleasures. It's almost a challenge I pose to myself to find something quaint, or historic, or with an amazing view, or in a special structure (like a castle or a lighthouse, etc.), or with a cute feature like an in-room fireplace (more on that, later). Finding the Captains Collection bed and breakfast felt like I won the lodging lottery - after traveling up the Maine coast, like literally all the way to Lubec and down, I had found some pretty amazing places to stay at already - but even without a water view, the Lord mansion was probably still my favorite out of the whole trip; go figure! This particular house (okay, mansion) ticked off many of the boxes I value; of historical interest, unique room design and feature, understated luxury and fantastic customer service. The mansion itself is gorgeous, the (hi)story of the several mansions on this block in Kennebunkport is fascinating, and the decor inside the common areas and the room itself was beautiful. We stayed here on a rainy, stormy evening, and the fireplace in the room added to the ambiance. Big love. Another nice touch was breakfast in the morning, the food options were inventive and tasty, quality offerings. Definitely not your typical waffles and powdered eggs sadness you often come across. A cute touch is that you walk into the actual kitchen to go get it. I would stay at the Captains Collection again, although knowing that each mansion has its own unique style and vibe, it would be fun to check the others out as well.

Yelp
We just had our 9th visit and are never ever dissapointed. The staff is amazing, friendly and so helpful. I cannot say enough about them all. The Inn is immaculate and you can tell that the entire staff pays attention to every detail. We are already planning our 10th visit with many more to follow! This is a can't miss place to decompress, relax and meet wonderful people. You can easily get lost here with good food, good company and great service. Every room has its own charm and we have never had the same room yet. We look forward to trying a new room on every visit. It would be difficult to pick a favorite. We just can't say enough about the team that Rick and Bev have put together and the work they have done to focus on every detail. It is our happy place.

Barbara T.

Yelp
What a beautiful renovation! WJH is a historic inn walking distance to Dock Avenue. The inn is decorated in subtle white & cream tones & though it's not in the typical tradition inn decor, we found it stunning. They serve continental breakfast daily. If you would like a hot egg dish, you can walk across the street at their sister property. Water & fresh fruit was provided. Now about our room. We stayed in the petit queen with a private entrance & petit is key word. I would describe it as cute & efficient. It was fine for us as we spent our time in the common areas. Everyone was friendly & polite. My only pet peeve was no daily room clean. Clean towels are provided if u ask. We will be back!

Taylor D.

Yelp
Such wonderful service! My husband and I stayed in the Champion room for our honeymoon, where they left us complimentary chocolates, champagne, and chocolate covered strawberries! The blueberry pancakes the next morning were delicious! Will definitely be returning!

Mark H.

Yelp
From check in to check out we were made to feel like we were more than just guests. The staff were friendly but not obtrusive. At times I felt like we were the only people staying in the house. I had the room on the first floor. It was a large comfortable room with a large bathroom and shower. I found the house to be very comfortable. Breakfasts were delicious and plenty of offerings each day. Snacks provided in the kitchen area of the house. Walking distance to shopping and restaurants. I would stay here again and would recommend if in the area.

Holly M.

Yelp
Hotel is very old with a great need for improvements, Breakfast was well below an average rating. I have traveled extensively over last 25 years and this hotel should not be rated greater than a 3 star. pictures on website are very deceiving and do not match the actual appearance of the hotel. Travel dates were week of 07/24/22.

Amber P.

Yelp
My husband and I visited Maine for our 10 year anniversary trip. We decided to start our Maine travels in Kennebunkport and I booked our hotel in Kennebunkport. Unfortunately, I booked our stay for the wrong night! Fortunately, there was another open room at Captains Collection and Kristen and staff were so accommodating! The room was beautiful and breakfast was delicious. All of the staff were helpful and provided recommendations for local activities and food. I would very much recommend this beautiful hotel to anyone and would love to visit again in the future!

Ingrid K.

Yelp
Beautiful B&B that actually is two properties in one: the main house and a second, smaller house just behind it. We stayed there in the Nathanial room. We had everything that the main house did and it was nicely furnished with a full sitting room just outside our door. No one else used it, so we had it to ourselves. We were also welcome at the main house if we chose, so that was a nice option. Everyone on staff was very friendly and accomodating. The grounds were neatly kept and everything was super clean. We also recieved a full breakfast complete with pancakes, softboiled egg, sausage, carmelized bananas with pecans, yogurt and granola and fresh fruit. Quite the spread. Will definately stay here again should my travels bring me this way.

Sarah H.

Yelp
This property is gorgeous, quiet, the room was dark at night. I appreciated the texts beforehand regarding the check in and out process. Parking is free and convenient. Breakfast was delicious and we were able to enjoy it in our room. I didn't want to leave! The only minus was the mattress in our room needs replacing as it sagged in the middle, but that's pretty much like my mattress at home so I still slept fine.

Linda D.

Yelp
We spent our honeymoon here . We had the beautiful Camden suite and it was so amazing. Comfortable bedding, nice smelling soaps and lotions to use . Robes to wear while in the room and a beautiful fireplace. We would like to send our most grateful regards to the innkeeper and staff for making our stay a memorable experience of a lifetime . Yelp
The captain Fairfield was the perfect spot for our midweek getaway. It's Located just off the main strip or "dock square" of Kennebunkport, which would be easily walkable in the summer. We chose this spot during the off season (Late February). While many of the local restaurants and shops were closed or seasonal hours were in effect, the low population worked as a romantic advantage. We felt like we had a secret pass to kennebunkport in the quiet - free from traffic and restaurant waits. As for the inn itself - you are welcomed by the groundskeepers, whom are cheery and inviting. At check in they give you an iPad stocked full of apps (included one for the hotel) on local suggestions and getting around. Or, be like my boyfriend and use it to catch up on sports news that you couldn't get in the car ride up. Each room has its own personality and the decor is unmatched, a signature of lark hotels. The bed was comfortable and faced an electric fireplace that warmed us up as we watched our favorite Wes Anderson movie. The breakfast was the most impressive, the frittata was - only explained by emojis A perfect place for a getaway or rental for a bridal party- I'd definitely tell my friends and family to stay here!

Ethel M.

Yelp
This inn is incredible. We stayed for two nights and really enjoyed ourselves. Although it is a bed and breakfast, it doesn't feel like you are invading the privacy of someone's home but it still has the charm of a small home. The bedroom was very large and clean. The outdoor area has lots of seating and two fire pits to enjoy at night. They also had a large selection of wines and beers for patrons. In addition to a quaint breakfast, there was little offerings throughout the day that added a homey touch such as coffee, water, and the best homemade chocolate chip cookies! Also, this home is perfectly located close to town so that you can walk to tons of shopping, bars, and restaurants !

Wendy J.

Yelp
Captain Lord Mansion has become our Christmas destination, a new tradition. We've been to the Mansion many other times as well - summer, spring, fall - but Christmas has been very special. Rick and Beverly have been such wonderful hosts. However, this year (2019) when we walked through the door I immediately noticed the lack of seasonal decorations compared to past years. Then, when we entered our room, the first thing we noticed was that there was no Christmas tree. There was always a Christmas tree in the room, at least the past two years we've stayed. I soon learned that the Mansion had been sold and that of course changes would occur. There are very small things that are very noticeable to returning visitors, especially for a holiday. We plan on at least one more Christmas at the Mansion to experience the new ownership. I hope we walk into a winter wonderland as we have in the past.

Jennifer V.

Yelp
This place went above and beyond to ensure that our ever need was met. We will certainly be coming back again very soon! Great location, beautiful grounds, amazing breakfast. What else could you want!?

amanda d.

Yelp
3.5 stars for our stay, 5 stars for the hotel. Read before booking. I believe this is under new ownership of the Lark Hotel collection. It's been totally renovated and looks like something right out of Architectural Digest. The common areas are bright, comfortable, sunny and spotless. This is one of the most beautiful hotels I've ever stayed in. The typical continental breakfast is a bit different due to COVID, but individually packaged salads, quiche, chia pudding, and muffins were delightful. We grabbed things to bring back to our room but the greenhouse dining room is spectacular. Complimentary coffee, espresso, loose leaf tea and snacks all day long. Location can't be beat one block from K'bunkport village in a gorgeous residential neighborhood. Our room was a mixed bag. It was decorated beautifully with huge windows, marble bathroom with excellent shower, gas fireplace, four poster bed, bay window nook, and all of the historical features of the house restored and intact. One of the most comfortable beds I've slept in. The problem was entirely with the location of our room. Room 1 is the only room on the first floor, in a sunny corner of the building, DIRECTLY off the foyer next to the front door. The front windows look out onto the street and the front door. Anyone entering the building can see in your room. The side windows including the bathroom look out onto the parking lot. And the room backs up to the lobby bathroom which is in heavy use. Because of the fishbowl nature of the room, we had to close shutters and curtains for privacy. Even so, we heard everything. All the time. The front door opened and slammed all day and much of the night. The toilet was flushing in the lobby. A drunk guy forgot the door code and was ringing the doorbell late at night until someone helped him. Every conversation in the lobby about people's plans for the day happened right next to our heads. It was super disruptive, and the opposite of relaxing. To be honest, Room 1 should not be a room. It would make a lovely office or coffee lounge. If you stay here, specifically request to stay on another floor. Do not book Room 1. It's a gorgeous hotel though so you should stay here. Just avoid that room at all costs. Hope that helps.

Marion M.

Yelp
My husband & I had never stayed at a Bed & Breakfast before so we weren't sure what to expect...but now, after staying at Captain Jefferds, we're spoiled. Erik, Sarah, and there staff are the nicest people you'll ever meet. The room was exactly as described & shown in the photos. The breakfast every morning was just awesome. But all of that was second compared to the treatment & welcoming we got for our dog Ginger. My husband has a T-shirt that says "If I can't take my dog, I'm not going" and he pretty much means that. At Captain Jefferds, Ginger wasn't treated as a dog, she was treated as a member of my family, & for that I'm forever grateful & will look forward to returning. Thanks for the wonderful stay!

Yelp
Awesome and beautiful place to stay! We stayed there for my birthday last year in November 2019. Very peaceful and extremely warm and inviting atmosphere. Great little breakfast served as well. Beautiful area! Great spot for lots of walks. Hopefully we will be back again soon. Thank you!!

Charles M.

Yelp
An amazing and memorable experience! We went to celebrate our Mothers birthday and the Mansion did not disappoint us! The staff is so professional. The rooms were BEAUTIFUL! And our breakfast was so well done! This is the 4th time I have been here, and it never disappoints. I would highly recommend for a romantic weekend away, or would recommend for a special occasion! The town of Kennebunkport is slow during the wintertime. However, there are a few things to do! But, plan on relaxing, and taking time to take a break from the fast pace world and enjoy a glass of wine by the fireplace, and reconnect with yourself! Wonderful and so deserved!! A++++

Yelp
This is our second time visiting Captain Lord Mansion. Our first time here was 28 years ago on our honeymoon. Unfortunately, Covid-19 has diminished our stay. The rooms are still beautiful and comfortable. The staff is still friendly and helpful. On the other hand, the food was poor and didn't taste very good. The last time we were here the food was superb. I attribute the poor quality of the food to the pandemic. Fortunately, the restaurants of Kennebunkport did not disappoint

Yelp
My husband and I went for a quick 2 night getaway to the Captain Lord Mansion to get out of dodge (so to speak). All I can say is.....absolutely wonderful and I wish we had gone prior to now. Comfortable bed, soft sheets, lovely fireplace, heated bathroom floor, wonderful breakfasts and terrific friendly and helpful staff. My only complaint is that I couldn't spend 24/7 soaking in the jetted tub in the room but then wouldn't have gotten the chance to poke around town. That was downright phenomenal especially after a stressful and long week. Thank you very very much for the nice surprise in our room Bev and Rick and I am so sorry we didn't get a chance to say hello. It was a pleasant and very unexpected surprise, thank you so very much! I highly recommend this place! And so does my husband, and he's a tough one to please! Your "den" downstairs was a big hit with him.

Yelp
We had a thoroughly fantastic stay at Captain Fairfield Inn during the week of July 4th. Admittedly, we were at first reticent at the idea of an inn/b&b (us being hip & young and all) but with a referral from Jetsetter and generally stellar reviews, we decided to give it a go. We definitely made the right decision. The accommodations provide complete modern amenities with a historic charm. Think flat screen television, an iPad provided upon arrival, designer bed and bath linens and rainfall shower head. The innkeepers, Jed, Alana and Jessica are genuinely delightful people. The location is ideal, walking distance to the hustle and bustle of Dock Square. We were even able to walk to Colony Beach to watch the fireworks. We stayed two nights in the Walker Room which was great but the other 3 nights were spent in the recently re-done Lark Suite which is complete lovely luxury. I highly recommend the Lark Suite which is spacious, well designed and had a fireplace and private outdoor patio area (wifi worked perfectly as I was sitting outside the patio and streaming Netflix). I aspire to have a bathroom just like the one in the Lark Suite some day! The 3-course gourmet breakfast is tasty and a nice added value. We also arranged to have an a la carte experience with a lobster picnic dinner for us and some family in town. Everything was setup beautifully and we were very pleased with how it turned out. We plan on being repeat guests!

Yelp
Located just a short stroll from the main square in Kennebunkport, this historic house was refashioned as a bed and breakfast in 1980 and has been in the hands of it's present inn-keepers for the past five years. There's no arguing with its charm and impeccable cleanliness. The service is helpful, if politely reserved. There are lots of public spaces both indoors and out to relax, read and enjoy your vacation. Guests may also use the computer in the front parlor if they need to check e-mail, web sites or access online maps of the area. One of the loveliest public spaces is the sun room with it's relaxing chairs, baskets of maps, menus and local information and urns of coffee and tea available all day. A small fridge off the room contains complimentary water and soda along with ice and glasses. A display case offers items for sale such as the inn's robes, toiletries or local treats and ceramics. We noticed a package of our pup's favorite (and hard to find) biscuits in there and planned to purchase them when we left but our generous hostess presented them to us as a gift. Every afternoon, complimentary snacks, cheese, crackers, cookies and such are offered in the sun room and can be enjoyed there, on the outside deck or in your room. The web site boasts of their gourmet three-course breakfasts but neglects to mention they're served at a communal table. The inn is undoubtedly romantic and bringing children is discouraged so we were surprised to find this decidedly non-romantic set up. We joined the group on our first morning and people were friendly enough but the conversations were strained and it felt like we were trying to make friends on the first day of a new job. When we first entered the dining room we didn't notice two small corner nooks but another couple (regulars, we later discovered) sat there and a small round table was set up for them. The following morning we arrived in the dining room early and requested one of those private set-ups. The hostess looked a bit perturbed but acceded to our request. And, at the end of the meal, she asked if we would like to reserve that table for the rest of our stay. Oh, yes, we would! A quiet, intimate breakfast for two was much more what we had in mind on our romantic vacation. Breakfast itself is delicious at the inn. Every day of our stay we were treated to different varieties of fruit compotes, entrees and sweets. Our favorite breakfast began with a particularly attractive fruit salad served with a delectable mango sauce. The entree of vegetable egg frittata came with sweet & spicy bacon so delicious we asked for the recipe and the meal ended with a light and sweet strawberry shortcake with lots of fresh, ripe berries. Additional rooms were added onto the back of the house at some point in it's history and those offer outside access and the option to have your four-legged friends accompany you. The inn's website boasts that the newest and most extensive renovation was done to the Baxter Suite, fashioned in the style of a traditional Maine lodge. The room offers air-conditioning (not an automatic amenity in Maine), TV, mini refrigerator, king sized bed and private screened porch. That sounded good to us and we booked it for a late August vacation. The room was lovely although we have a bone to pick with its descrip- tion on the web site. It's billed as a suite which is defined as more than one room. But, it's not. It's an average sized room with a somewhat cramped bathroom, whirlpool tub for two in the main room and two chairs. Pretty though it was, at those high prices, we could wish for a bit more attention to detail. For example, the candle by the whirlpool tub was not new and had burned in such a way as to make lighting it difficult. The book of matches next to it was 3/4 empty. One of the wooden slats on the window blinds was broken. The mini fridge tucked into the closet didn't quite fit so it had to stand catty corner. The front door was warped so that it was hard to shut and the top lock didn't line up, making it impossible to lock. The AC was also underpowered for the room. Although, to be fair, this was one of the hottest summers in recent history. The Baxter's private porch had been a big selling feature for us and sitting out there in the crisp early mornings was heavenly. But the foliage right by the entrance, as well as all along the foot path leading to the room was severely overgrown and that made walking uncomfortable and brought us far too close to the foraging bees. If you're considering a stay in the Baxter we should note that the ceilings are low. Brian is 6'4" and barely...just barely...cleared the beams. Overall, though, Captain Jefferd's Inn is a lovely place and we had a wonderful vacation in Maine.

Yelp
I grew up reading Kenneth Roberts' historical fiction set in the early American port town of Arundel, Maine. I may or may not have even had a minor fictional crush on the fictional nineteenth century sea captain Captain Richard Nason. Funnily enough, I booked a stay at the Captain Fairfield with my real-life twenty-first century ship captain boyfriend before I learned that the original Captain Fairfield sailed for the real-life Nasons (whom Roberts' characters are based on) and Arundel was renamed Kennebunkport in the 1800s. That coincidence could be a great premise for an ABC Family movie, but, alas, there was no time traveling. Nonetheless, we had a great stay at the Captain Fairfield and I would recommend it to anyone. The classically beautiful Federalist style house is really the epitome of a New England sea captain's house. I particularly liked the period pieces in the house--I wasn't so crazy about the contemporary boutique pieces. According to their newsletter, the Captain Fairfield recently unveiled a few new modern boutique rooms. I guess that's one way of standing out in the traditional town of Kennebunkport (home of nineteenth-century sea captains and the Bushes), but I'm a traditionalist at heart, so I prefer the more classic rooms. The innkeepers, Hillary and Nate, do a wonderful job at making guests feel welcome. Guests are allowed access to the pantry which holds French presses, lovely stoneware mugs, a kettle, complimentary tea, coffee, and juice, as well as an honor bar of wine and soft drinks. They also put out homemade cookies in the afternoon. One of the nicest touches is that they tell guests to feel free to use the facilities after they check out in case they want to still explore the town. Breakfast was as delicious as other yelpers have said it was. We started with a watermelon, arugula, feta salad, followed by a buttery scone, followed by a Belgian waffle (for me) and omelet (for my boyfriend). The homemade juice, which was more like a thin smoothie, was also great. The location is perfect--right downtown, across from the Kennebunk, and a nice two-mile walk to the Walker estate.

Yelp
This is a lovely place to stay....if you're white. I bought a few nights here as a part of my sweet boyfriend's Christmas present. Aside from a few stares things were going okay, until we changed rooms from the owner Bev. Who then asked my boyfriend where he was from, he replied the country he had been born in, grew up in, and went to college in for his entire life. She then followed up with "no where are your parents from", when he explained she interjected that she had a friend from Pakistan who "looked just like him". It made my boyfriend instantly feel like an "other" and like he was on trial for his nationality--not quite the New England hospitality we were promised. Before anyone comments that she was just making conversation, ask yourself when is the last time you had to explain to a random person your nationality upon initially meeting them. I am saddened, and disturbed by this interaction. I have linked an article stating 8 reasons it is highly offensive to ask someone in so little words 'where they are really from'. I only hope they can learn from this interaction to make ALL guests feel welcome. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/brown-girl-magazine/8-reasons-you-shouldnt-as_b_8694162.html

Yelp
This is one of the best bed and breakfast inns we've ever stayed in! It's incredibly charming and the staff is extremely friendly. My husband and I went there for a weekend for a mini baby moon with our dog and they made our stay extra special. They gave us a lovely tour of the grounds and welcomed our dog with a biscuit and a ball and plenty of towels (it was a rainy weekend). They even had a baby book waiting for us inside the room. Breakfast every morning was delicious and the menu was well thought out. Even their soaps smelled amazing! The only thing I would mention is that if you are planning to take your dog, you can't leave it alone in the room and would need to schedule a walker/sitter to stay in the room with your dog. They recommended a sitter and she was able to come on short notice (but I recommend planning this out with inn staff beforehand b/c we were just lucky that the sitter was around that weekend). I hope we get to go back to this inn soon!

Yelp
Beautiful inn. We loved the property and enjoyed our stay. The view from our room was amazing. The breakfast and coffee area was a nice touch especially the specialty teas and chocolate chip cookies. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Down side was we never got our cable to work during our 2 nights. They gave us directions but no offer to come fix it. Someone left the music in the lobby blaring the first night there and finally went off around 1am. We could here it all the way up to the 3rd floor over our TV. They said it "must have been the ghost" that turned it on. They did pull through for us on Monday with a dinner from a food truck from a local restaurant. Most of the restaurants in the area were either closed or packed so we were worried if we were going to find something.

Yelp
We stayed here in Sept with our dog, and cannot recommend this place enough, especially for other people who want to be able to travel somewhere dog-friendly. The location of the inn is perfect - A less than 5 min walk to downtown, settled in a really pretty neighborhood. We were able to walk to lunch, dinner, drinks, etc. and there are so many cute shops downtown too that you can spend time out. We found that it was tricky in bringing our dog with us to eat because we had rainy weather, but on the nice days, we were able to eat at restaurants that had outdoor seating - Salt & Honey was a good one! The inn is also absolutely beautiful, each room decorated to make you feel like you're at home. We stayed in the Terrace room, which was great for having a dog with us, since it had a door right out to the back porch/yard. The hosts were welcoming and super friendly, giving good recommendations of where to go, what to do, etc. We also had a complimentary breakfast one morning which was not only delicious, but we were able to sit with the other people staying there - It was fun to meet such nice people! We highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Yelp
My wife and I stayed at the Captain Fairfield last weekend, and were delighted with the hospitality and comfort of the Inn! The attention to detail started early in our visit when we arrived late. We walked in to find a wonderful note written for us explaining all the details we needed to get set up in our room. Self Check-in made easy! The next morning we went down to breakfast to get our day started and were presented with a wide range of home-made and home-baked items -- they were all fantastic. Rodolfo and Marianne (the inn keepers) came over briefly, addressing us by name, to introduce themselves. Once we wrapped up breakfast, we went to officially check in. Our new friends told us about all the best local stops to make, and gave us an AMAZING dinner recommendation (earth at hidden pond -- which is a whole other story). No googling necessary, Marianne and Rodolfo took care of all our food and activity reservations while we relaxed in their beautiful living room area drinking coffee and reading. The rest of the weekend went incredibly smoothly. And Marianne's home-made scones were literally (not figuratively) the best scones I've ever tasted. The couple sitting next to us at breakfast felt the same. The scones alone are almost worth the price of admission at the Captain Fairfield =) Thank you to both Marianne and Rodolfo for making our weekend easy, relaxing, fun, and delicious!

Yelp
We found the best pet friendly B & B in Kennebunk Maine. Would go back in a heartbeat. The Baxter room was exactly the one for us. Private entrance to the grounds for our dog to run. A two person hot tub and a gas stove to relax by. Lots of personal touches for humans and pets (dog sitter) made our weekend stress free.

Yelp
What a treat! I cant say enough how much I loved our stay here. We were actually booked to stay 2 nights in Portland, but after a loud evening, we decided to leave Portland head to Kennebunkport. I called Captain Fairfield from google, and the girl who answered was immediately so kind and gracious and accommodating. We were greeted by name, given a tour of the home, help with the bags, even asked if we would like decaf over caff coffee for an afternoon sip.. I really cant say enough. The couple running the inn are the sweetest and most wonderful hosts. The house itself is to die for - a super fun mix of updated accommodations in a historic building. The beds are comfortable, wine and beer are available for purchase. You can walk easily (maybe 1 city sized block) to the main area of town, and you can even walk to the ocean if you're up for a stroll. Hands down my favorite place now. we live in Texas and im already looking forward to a weekend getaway here. Just perfect.

Yelp
We enjoyed our stay at the Nathanial Lord Mansion. Staff was friendly and accommodating! The place was spotless and breakfast was delicious. The high bed with a step stool was a little awkward. We will be back but will definitely request a room with a lower bed.

Yelp
We had a great two night stay here last week, in their Lark Suite. We wanted, and expected, to like it more, however there are some issues and questions we'd have. While the building is an amazingly thoughtful restoration, the original wood floors are great, but they aren't the best for bare feet and are quite creaky. Definitely needed a large oriental type rug under chairs and by the bed. The bed and linens were wonderful, and the bathroom was the best feature along with the amazing toiletries. The room doesn't have enough lighting however, and needs outlets to support tech conscious travelers. There were no plugs available around the desk, and only one available by the bedside. New electricity was clearly installed during the renovation and there are outlets in the plaster, but the original outlets in the baseboard do not work. A table and a lamp would be welcomed between the two very comfortable easy chairs, but there would be no electricity to support it, even with a long extension cord. Breakfast was different, but interesting and good at the same time. It was a collection of tiny plates that changed every day, which were well prepared and served hot, but they weren't the quality that we have had at other Kennebunkport Inns we have stayed at. With plenty of nice places to stay in the area, Captain Fairfield just doesn't achieve the five star rating we intended and expected it would.

Yelp
Location is great. Staff is friendly. I LOVE Bed and Breakfasts. I get excited about the charm and mind blowing breakfasts. I have to say that the small plate breakfast did not excite me. The food was good, but not what I would expect for $300/night. I had a much better meal and an abundance of treats at the Maine Stay Inn a couple years ago. If the hot food was served super hot and there were cookies available in the afternoon, I would be happy. The room was comfortable and clean. I enjoyed sitting outside and having a glass of wine in the evening. For the price, you can have a better B&B experience elsewhere.

Yelp
We just got back from a three night stay at Captain Fairfield Inn and I was so happy that it lived up to my expectations! I picked the area and hotel off of an internet search. It was perfect. The hotel was a great mix of classic meets modern, it was clean, and the hosts were incredibly kind. We stayed in the Sweet Liberty room and I loved it. Every question we had about the area was answered, and they were great at casually checking back up after we returned on how our day had been. I was so impressed they remembered which guests did what activity for the day! The inn is a quick walk into town and restaurants, we didn't use our car unless we were leaving the Kennebunkport area. The breakfast was fabulous and changed daily. I was so impressed and hope to be back in the future some day!

Yelp
Well I cannot say enough good things. A lot of the negative comments in other reviews either seems from misunderstands, or unexpected expectations. So we came up for a night. We were greeted at the door. When shown around and our rooms, we were given a tour. Shown the pantry, to get tea or coffee, and some delicious spicy chocolate scones! We even got a glass of wine to enjoy while we relaxed. We were given an iPad as others noted, on the wifi. Is this necessary? no, most of us have smart phones. but is it nice? YES! why? Well, there are apps and webpages all preloaded for the area. So instead of having to search over and over, the info is at your fingertips. Our room, like the rest of the inn, was comfortable, and incredible. The bed was very comfortable, the fireplace was great, and there were lots of nice touches. Toiletries, Bathrobes, music, even a TV with apple TV on it (we didn't even turn it on, but a nice touch). Breakfast was something I was looking forward to, and it did not disappoint. Neither of us needed a huge meal to stuff you for the day, so we appreciated the eclectic choices, the top quality, and the taste. Being able to try several different small plates of delicious food we a treat. Roasted Potatoe and Bacon Frittata, Pumpkin pie oats, Maple infused cranberry and bacon salads, Chai Latte Scones, and more. Truly great homemade options. Overall we truly enjoyed it. Great ambiance, comfortable feel, and really felt as if we were 'at home' The staff was great, accommodating, very helpful. And we wouldn't hesitate to come back again! ( we are debating coming back in the spring, or trying a different one of their locations)

Yelp
Relaxing Clean Friendly Homey Delicious breakfast We were here in March 2018 in a beautiful snowstorm! It was paradise! One of the most important aspects of an inn is being made to feel welcomed. The owners of Captain Jefferds Inn did just that. Highly recommended!
