If I could give less than 1 star I would. That's how bad my experience was there.
On 4/30/2017 I booked a two night stay at Kenny's Tipperary Inn through booking.com. I submitted my credit card info and paid online assuming both days had been just paid for.
On 6/10/2017, the day of check in I got an e mail stating I had been charged $308.68, half the cost of the stay. After closer evaluation I was quite disturbed to find out that they had charged 50% on 4/30/17 and retained my credit card info in their files and charged the remaining 50% on check-in day without my knowledge or consent. I was not on the phone with them when they ran the charge, nor did I get an invoice or receipt after this unauthorized charge had been made. I voiced my displeasure to the office attendant who didn't seem to care less about what amounted to an unauthorized abuse of my financial info.
Getting past the fraudulent charge, we checked in on Saturday night 6/10/2017 and we were immediately disgusted by a foul smelling room. A smell I am quite familiar with as a victim of Hurricane Sandy and Hurricane Irene I know the smell of a mold infestation. I soon discovered the carpeting outside the door to the bathroom was soaked as I stepped on it in my socks.
Looking into the bathroom my wife and I were horrified to see the bathroom was renovated to be like a locker room. It was an open area, tiled with a toilet in the corner and the shower head dropping down from the ceiling. There is no shower stall, bathtub or anything to keep water from running all over the room and out into the carpeted hallway. Closer inspection of the carpet in front of the bathroom showed clear outlines of stains from previous guests that let water run all over. This was the source of the funky smell and a most definite mold problem under the carpets and probably in the walls. We were not willing to shower there as the conditions were not sanitary at all. Also the toilet would only flush by holding the handle all the way down, pushing tight and holding for 30 seconds until the water flushed out slowly. The place is just disgusting.
Besides the offensive smell and filthy conditions, the room had no amenities either. We paid for a King Room, whatever that means. But there was no porch or terrace outside the room, no kitchen, no refrigerator, no pool as they hadn't filled it yet even though Memorial Day starts the summer season and this is supposed to be a summer resort.
After spending one night there it felt like we slept under a herd of buffalo as the ceilings are paper thin and the guests above us woke us out of a sound sleep just by entering their room. It literally sounded like stampede over our room. I paid $616.68 for two nights of that? Nope. The next day we decided we had to leave. I complained to the office attendant and he told me there's a 24 hour cancellation policy just to get back 50% and we had past that point of being able to cancel. We left, went to a nearby hotel, paid for another night, got a room with a bay view, a terrace, kitchen, quiet room and most importantly a clean bathroom with no foul odors in the room. We basically abandoned our 2nd night the Kenny's Tipperary Inn and spend more money to get a decent place to stay our second night.
To recap,
The lack of amenities would alone have left us sorely disappointed but;
Fraudulent unauthorized charges to my credit card, foul smelling room, bathroom with broken toilet, no shower stall, water flooding from the bathroom into the carpeted hallway, obvious unchecked mold condition are in my opinion, all together and individually grounds for a full refund. These grievances constitute a breach of contract for a paid customers reasonable expectations for a high priced hotel room in a popular summer resort. This issue is not only causing me to write bad reviews but to also seek full compensation for this disgusting experience through my credit card company and I may well complain to the local County Board of Health. One look at the pictures I took bear me out on this.
