Kentisbury Grange (Kentisbury, Devon) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"This Victorian country house may have a Grade II listing but it’s been smartly decked out with designer fabrics and furnishings in the colours of its original stained glass windows. Go for one of the chic, detached Garden Suites." - Tablet Hotels

We first came here for a family wedding in 2017, the place was outstanding! It has changed since then and is not what it once was!||When we got there, check in was supposed to be 4pm but our room (as well as other rooms) was not ready until nearly 5.30pm. Not ideal when you are only staying for the 1 night! We were offered a complimentary drink while we waited, which was nice. Check in is now in the bar area, they used to have a receptionist in the main house. The guy that checked us in was nice, friendly and was there throughout our stay working the reception, bar, dinner and breakfast service.||When we did get our key, we were staying in a lodge, it was nice but probably needs a bit of a tlc. 2 or 3 lightbulbs not working, quite a few cracks in the walls, ceilings. It was nice, but you can tell it needs a bit of a refresh. Nice coffee machine in the room but no milk or spoons so we were unable to use it!! Also, no water in the room which i’d have expected!||Dinner in the evening was nice, but the menu was very limited, not like it used to be. Also, all out of the lager and the cider on tap, strange being a saturday and the fact it wasnt that busy!!||Overall, it was a pleasant stay but i probably wouldnt go again. I think the price reflects the standard, I wouldnt have wanted to pay any more!||Got so much potential to be outstanding!

The grange is surrounded by beautiful countryside, it is quiet , striking property Our room and en-suite were huge and on the ground floor of the original house. |There was plenty of parking close to the property. |Breakfast was brilliant and nothing was too much trouble to prepare. The evening meal was good but there was a very restricted menu , nothing like the one available online|Staff were very welcoming and helpful|We stayed in room one , although huge and clean there were a couple of areas that needed attention , the curtains were ripped in places and one curtain had come off the curtain track and the grout in the shower needed cleaning in places. Otherwise the room was spotless

Certainly not the quality for value we were expecting. First and foremost, general maintenance leaves a lot to be desired. The French doors literally fell apart at the top, and there was blood on the floor of the main bathroom (or what I think is blood, check the photo and judge for yourself). We saw the cleaning team do another lodge while we were here, and it was certainly a quick, not thorough, job. The interior of the windows is really gross, and there are cobwebs everywhere. Also, from the first day to the last it was a fly cemetery. In terms of actual living, the king bed is basically just a massive pit where we were falling into one another all night long, and the pillows were either super flat or super lumpy. And they say you are able to cook anything in the kitchen, but it’s just missing too many items to be able to cook a meal for a family (unless you want two bites of pasta each). However, the location and property itself is fabulous and I’ve enjoyed being here with my family and dog just on the premise of being outdoors. Yet the railings feel like they are about to fall over, with the deck not much far behind it. Not sure how it would take a dog or a child running or falling on the railings. Also, we had a lovely mouse friend show up. We’ve affectionately named him Roland.

The Cottage Suite at Kentisbury Grange is the perfect mix of comfort and luxury. We loved having our own private space, with elegant interiors and everything we needed for a relaxing break. It was quiet, peaceful, and had that special homely feel.||Dining was a highlight – the food was exceptional, with fantastic service to match. We also enjoyed strolling through the beautiful grounds and gardens, which were immaculately kept. The location is ideal for day trips, with Exmoor, Lynton, and Lynmouth just a short drive away. If you’re looking for a romantic and restful escape, the Cottage Suite ticks every box.

We stayed in a large upstairs room (8) in the house (Grange) it was well appointed and stylish having been originally renovated to a high standard. |It was like others have said, in need of some minor repairs to bring it back up. wardrobe doors need adjustment , sink tap needs tightening and we had some bulbs replaced. |It was also in need of a more thorough clean. |(Cobwebs/ some staining on the pale carpet)|The restaurant is good- breakfast very good but again as others have said the evening food was very limited (chips with everything except a Caesar Salad) but well presented and the staff very attentive. (We went to the Pyne Inn Gastropub nearby which was excellent with a variety of choices open daily except Mon/Tues)|The other odd thing is that the garden is littered with posh park homes amongst the trees so you can’t walk round the lake in front of the house as people are out on their lakeside balconies.

I stayed with my partner for a last minute getaway, the grounds are beautiful and well maintained. We opted for a cottage suite as they had a hot tub and it lived up to all our expectations, the bed was really comfy and cozy and the room was overall amazing. We had a bed and breakfast package so we had breakfast in the coach house restaurant and it was amazing. Lots of options to chose from and very polite and attentive staff. Great value for money and we definitely will visit again!

We booked the Cottage Suite at Kentisbury Grange and were blown away by how lovely it was. Spacious, stylishly decorated, and full of character, it gave us both privacy and comfort. It felt more like a luxury country retreat than a hotel room.||The food at the restaurant was outstanding – every dish fresh, beautifully presented, and delicious. The grounds around the property are stunning, and it was a real pleasure just wandering through the gardens. With so many lovely places to visit nearby, from the coastline to charming villages, this is the perfect base for exploring North Devon.

Clifton Lodge||We did see plenty of reviews before we booked stating the lodges were tired and in need of freshening up, however, given we have 2 dogs we don’t mind a few scuffs or marks etc.||That said we were disappointed given many of the comments calling out damage etc were some time ago and for a ‘luxury’ accommodation I would expect the most significant items to have been at least looked into by now.||Most of my frustrations were cosmetic but some went beyond that. I’d point out that we didn’t raise these with the staff at the time because, in all honestly what’s the point? They are not going to fix loose tiles and rip up a whole deck, plus why should I disrupt a family holiday just so owners/site could have work done in my accommodation! ||My main disappointment was the state of the deck area around the lodge. I was in need of replacement, if we had small children with us, I would have been more worried. The deck panels were not flush with one another so definite trip hazards and sharp edges. The veranda was wobbly and I would not want to lean against for too long. The canopy above the door was rotten and falling apart, it’s just messy!||Inside as I say it was scruffy but it was ok for our purpose, there was clearly water damaged flooring and the laminate was in poor condition and coming apart. It was actually several different finishes pushed together where they had tried to fix it, not luxury.||The toilet in the en-suite was lose from the wall (this had been mentioned by other guests some time ago), shaver socket loose.||The main internal problem was the states of the blinds. Most were broken and a couple were missing. Not luxury.||Whilst it didn’t impact our holiday too much, it was just disappointing to see that so many other guests had called out the same issues months and months earlier and yet the resort had made no attempt to fix them.||The site it self is very nice will gardens and grounds well kept.||The bonus of having an EV charger was good but signage should have been used to make all people aware of how they should park around their, after we were blocked in by an unsuspecting guest not realising that they were 2 x EV chargers!||We used the bar and restaurant, and the food was excellent and pretty good value.||So site and grounds were good but accommodation is pretty poor. It’s not luxury accommodation, it’s not even close. ||Plenty of work to be done to be put into that category.||Unfortunately, we won’t be revisiting anytime soon.
