Kēōkea Beach Park

Only a handful of vehicles here on our visit with our local friend from Waimea, Hawaii ok only a 35 minute drive after stopping at King statue and using facilities. Our friend had to show us this spot because it's her dream spot for a future wedding ceremony. I agree very very special with tremendous " mana" so definitely " kokua!!" 🙏🌈😍 I'm always grateful and counting my blessings to live and enjoy such sacred places of Hawaii islands ( definitely stolen 😭🙏) always remembering to be respectful and GRATEFUL for such beauty and tranquility! All about the Aina! Met a new animal friend!!

Huge waves smack the rugged coastline in this small town quiet park. Stroll up to the top for views of the pacific in the look out tower. But tread lightly, scan the ground and trees! You may get lucky and see a few yellow-billed cardinal’s a beautiful bird hailing from South America and introduced to Hawaii.

Stunning and serene. I want to build a hut here. So peaceful. The wind brings such clean air.

This is the cleanest beach park. Free too, no need to pay $20 admission. Plenty of fish for snorkeling. Look at the pictures

**Take the ocean side road to Keokea Park from Kona** Several parks n shops on the way. This has the local vibe and look..not touristy.!! Slow down...no rush. Stop in the local shops for ice cream, consignment n food, etc...not sure I saw a gas station..? Surfer's are in close n easy to see along a rocky shoreline..which is Great for boldering also. *Everything is within a 70yrd walk*. Free entry n good parking on blacktop.. Easy access to get in the water and protected from the waves, plus *free outside freshwater shower.* Picnick tables in the open and covered. Worth the visit and the drive there is... interesting. *Drive back thru Waimea* I highly suggest making this a day trip n *take your time*. ...This is where you find..Hawaii.

We had a suprise! A very pregnant monk seal was there at the same time. I used a zoom lens for my camera. I stayed very far away.

Beautiful park. Limited wading behind a breakwater but no access to the ocean. Once you get there you’ll quickly see why. Huge breaking waves crashing over exposed rocks. No beach whatsoever. So no snorkeling, surfing, boogie boarding, kayaking, etc. Seems to be a local family place. We sat and enjoyed the view. The waves are amazing even on the two calm-day visits we’ve made. If you scramble out onto the breakwater you can get up-close to the breakers. It’s a long way from Kona or Hilo. Lovely.

Beautiful views and very peaceful. We enjoyed sitting on the rocks and watching the waves. There's not a lot to do here, but it would be the perfect stop for a picnic and restroom break. You can walk in the protected water area, but it doesn't look great for swimming.

Love this small private-like native beach. Nice place for a quiet family picnic and Kids' wading beach.

Growing up, I often got excited when I heard my family would go going to a party at Keokea Park. Folks would rent the shelter, music would play, food would be plentiful and I would run and play like children should. Recently, I stopped by while I was in Kohala. It was a perfect day. The sun was shining, there was a slight breeze, and the park was nearly empty. I could sit in the car or on the rocks and watch the waves crash for hours. After I get my fill of that, I walk up to the smaller shelter where I can get some elevation and take a few more photos, sigh, and smile about the lovely day I'm having. If you're looking for a sandy beach with recreational swimming, this isn't a place for you. But, if you want to watch the waves, gaze at the mountains, and enjoy nature, it's as good a place as any.

Rugged beauty is the best way to describe this beach. After getting over the initial shock of seeing the showers and restroom shut down, and the nastiest porta potties I have ever seen in my life in their place, I relieved myself behind some trees, and then enjoyed the scenery all around me. This beach isn't a swimming beach by any stretch of the imagination. The waves were rough, and it is not protected by offshore reefs like most beaches in the area, so the surf is high and batters the shore. However, there is a small stream in the park, and a few children were playing in it, and some beautiful areas to walk around. There are a few picnic tables, a grill and a fire pit. It was nice to relax at a picnic table and just watch the waves. Be careful out on the rocks. I took a few pictures, and a huge wave came out of nowhere and almost made Pete a widow. As I mentioned, the showers and bathrooms were closed down when we were there (04/09) and the porta potties in their place were foul. Worth pulling off Hwy 270 for a quick visit, but don't expect to need your bathing suit unless you have a death wish.

Yep! It's an okay "beach". I wasn't thrilled about it because of the large rocks that made it uninviting for a swim - and the area is kind of small. There isn't really a beach - like a place for an umbrella and lawn chair. It's more picnic tables on a hill. Looks like it's the place where the bros hang out drinking beer and exchanging fish stories. I watched and listened to the bros telling stories about catching some big fish. Sounds like what one would expect Hawaiian guys to talk about in their spare time; sprinkled lavishly with "dude!" and such animation of the voice as a few beers can render. They didn't have a picnic table because they were all taken, so they just hung around a big pickup. This is likely a place where locals go to commune. Peaceful, scenic and full of life... but I'd stay out of the water there. Looks rough.

We spent 20 minutes enjoying the scenery here on our way to Pololu lookout. First we watched the blue waves crashing into the rusty colored cliffs. Then we hiked down to where a mountain stream empties into the ocean. It's not really a good place to swim but there is a lovely little sandy cove that I was able to wade in. Very pretty and very refreshing. And incidentally, more interesting than Pololu lookout!

Absolutely beautiful spot! We were just driving by and saw the sign on the main road that said Keokea beach park and we figured why not. We got there and parked and were just sitting in the little look out and a guy came up by the name of Joe and said that he had lived here all his life and his father before him. He proceeded to give us a history of the area and his personal experiences as well as some local lore that I don't think I will ever forget and will always think of when I come through here.
