20 Places to Visit Along West Virginia's Country Roads

"In 1916, West Virginia established a system of fire towers that were located on various mountain peaks throughout the state. By utilizing a chart and telephone system, employees were able to quickly pinpoint forest fire locations that helped decrease response times.  The earliest towers were wooden structures. They were later replaced with steel or stone structures. A few survived the times and now stand as unique tourist attractions.  The Pinnacle Knob fire tower property fell into disuse after World War II, but found a second life as a home for three communications towers. The second fire tower foundation now serves as a scenic overlook with an elevation well over 3,000 feet.  Update as of May 2021: Construction in the area so proceed with caution." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Yelp
I stayed here during a weeknight in August 2022. I liked it very much. I was on a 4-day road trip and I had stayed in a Quality Inn in Frederick MD, a Super8 in Winchester VA, and this motel .... and the Keyser Inn was easily the best. For the room with king bed, my price was $84 total including tax - a very good value. This motel does not have a pool or hot tub or fitness center or business center. It just provides the basics - modern, clean building, well-equipped and clean room, and free continental breakfast of cereal, bagels, cream cheese, toast, juice, coffee, yogurt, and packets of oatmeal. The room had fridge, microwave and coffeemaker -- it was a good room. Quiet place, quiet area. But not totally quiet because there is a Sheetz gas station and convenience store next to the motel. I liked having that convenience. This little hotel is highly recommended.

Yelp
This place is excellent. Very nice and pleasant staff. Small continental breakfast, which they go a little beyond, that is quite excellent, especially for how cheap the rooms are...Thanks

Yelp
Thank you so much to the Keyser Inn for finding our daughter a room for our upcoming family reunion. We thought you were all booked up. But somehow Tina found us a room for her. She was amazing and helped us thoroughly.

Yelp
I am a hotel snob but my kid enrolled in school in this teeny town so here I am. Extremely happy with this Inn. You can smell the clean. I thoroughly checked our room and bed and was extremely pleased. Breakfast was good and the sausage gravy may have been homemade. Separate smoking area for us evil smokers however no protection from the rain. Hope my kid doesn't flunk out because I'm looking forward to staying here again soon.

Yelp
Clearly this is not a '5 star' hotel, but this review will be based on what you get for the price you pay and you really can't beat it. The exterior of the building isn't much to look at and neither is the lobby, however the rooms have been renovated and aren't bad at all. You could stay somewhere else that had rooms a LITTLE bit nicer for probably double the cost, it just wouldn't be worth it. The beds both had nice bedding, and headboards. The room came complete with a plasma TV, microwave, mini fridge, desk and chair. The room was clean, and best of all FREE WIFI. Overall I would recommend.

Yelp
A DUMP!!! Could not believe this place. I was assigned a room with a sunken mattress. Old spreads. Just a dump, owners should really consider a renovation.

Yelp
We had adjoining rooms (one suite, one double-queen) with sitting room in between. Yes, there was no elevator to 2nd floor, but the rooms were spacious and clean, well above what we were expecting. The suite had a large Jacuzzi tub with shower. Beds were new and comfortable, WiFi was quite good, and breakfast was about typical for the free spreads offered by modest hotel/inns. Super nice desk clerk greeted us. Minor dings: adding a grab bar on the wall would make stepping out of that nice Jacuzzi a whole lot safer! all appointments in the bath are good quality except for the el-cheapo towel bar over the toilet. A/C unit in our suite worked fine but sounded like a wheezing dragon. A shade on the octagonal window (in the sitting room) would also be a good addition, as we had to close the door to stop the light shining through it. These are quite minor and easy fixes, and overall we were all very happy with this stay.
