Where Locals Go in Thailand

"With its limestone cliffs, crystal-clear lake water, and diverse wildlife, Khao Sok National Park makes you feel like you've been transported to another planet. The park is home to hundreds of animal species, including bears, leopards, and elephants. If you're lucky, you can spot many of the animals wandering around the park on safaris or boat trips. Khao Sok also boasts ATV tours, cave trekking, and Elephant Hills, an ethical sanctuary where rescued elephants are allowed to roam freely. For the ultimate experience, you can spend the night in a bungalow on Cheow Lan Lake. This allows you to indulge in spectacular stargazing and catch a sunrise over the glassy water." - Acacia Gabriel

10 Best National Parks in Thailand

"The problem with Khao Sok is that many visitors don't plan enough time [to explore both land and water activities]. You should split your visit between the lake and the village. Opt for a long-tail-boat tour guide for an experience that’s more free-flowing. At the park's core is Cheow Larn Lake, known for its floating houses and upscale camping. Choose a riverside treehouse or cottage as your base for jungle trekking and canoeing. Arrange treks and other activities through the park's main office in Khao Sok village." - Stacey Wreathall Stacey Wreathall Stacey Wreathall is a freelance writer and Thailand travel expert. Unfortunately, the guided tours were already fully booked, so we opted to visit the National Park without a guide. The trail we took was about 3 km long, well-maintained, and completely straight (there is no risk of getting lost if you follow it). Inside the park, we had the opportunity to see some small waterfalls, monkeys in the trees, and many plant species.

This is by far the most beautiful place I have ever visited in the world. I came to Khao Sok for a couple of days, which I don't think was enough time. Stayed just outside the village and did a rainforest walk one evening and a lake tour the following day. The forest boasts a wide array of flora and fauna. 5% of the worlds species live in this rainforest. I highly recommend doing a lake tour, you can see much of the most beautiful parts of the park and I even got the option to go kayaking around the lake. It's a place I will never forget.

Khao Sok is very beautiful national park! Never seen anything like this before. It’s definitely worth to pay the trip. We stayed here for one night and two days and our guide showed us in the jungle: gibbons, tarantula, big spiders and some other monkeys🐒. I was fascinated by the nature here. We went to the wild cave and had a boat ride around the lake. We went kayaking, swam in the lake and were walking through the wild jungle as well.

Incredibly beautiful place with breathtaking views and landscapes. The boat ride is very nice and long, allowing you time to take many pictures. Unfortunately, we were unlucky with the weather as it rained heavily and the boat ride wasn't very pleasant and we got soaked. Despite this, though, the trip was definitely very nice and worthy. Strongly recommend.

Prioritize a trip to Khao Sok if you find yourself in Thailand, you won’t regret it. We joined a tour arranged by our hotel. Included was a boat ride, cave exploration and climbing a waterfall. Although I was terrified while climbing the waterfall, our guides were amazing and very knowledgeable. I will hold the beauty of this place in my heart forever.

Absolutely impressive nature! Embedded in karst rocks, you move through a fairytale jungle-lake landscape as far as the eye can see. Be sure to spend a night at the floating houses, rent a kayak and then explore the picturesque landscape on your own! The Khao Sok National Park and the overnight stay at the floating houses was definitely the highlight of our 3-week trip to Thailand <3

Gorgeous scenery, it's a unique experience. Take a good tour guide like Jungle Hut and bring long and short clothing, plus a raincoat for when you're on the longboat (more for the waves, less for the rain). You can go kayaking for free from your bungalow as well. Down at the Park HQ, you can also do 2-3 hours walks / light treks on your own, and if you want to go longer, you must book a guide separately through your hostel. It's a breathtaking little walkabout, with places to swim and, if you're patient, ample wildlife to be spotted.

Lots to explore but can be expensive if you take all the trips on boat or with guides through the jungle. Be careful with where you plan to go because it can be slippery or very wet. Remember it is 300 baht to enter Khao Sok National Park.
