Kholle House Boutique Hotel

Steve, the new grad, front desk staff, and waitress & chef were all very welcoming and friendly. You won't be disappointed if you're in search of a quaint and historic stay that takes you back in time. There's a indoor/outdoor restaurant, pool, and a rooftop that can host an intimate Swahili dinner if 24-hour advanced noticed is provided. They were actually willing to do it on short notice for me. Although I didn't take them up on it, it just goes to show how much they were willing to go the extra mile to be hospitable. As this was/is a designated UNESCO building, I would only recommend overnights for travels that can appreciate a historic building. If you want all of the modern touches I would look elsewhere, but if you have an open mind you will love this place. It was clean and secure. The staff and ambience are one of a kind.

The hotel itself was very beautiful. Unfortunately my room was terrible. You couldn't look outside. The windows were shut and very hard to opfen. It was not possible to sit down in the room. You could only sit on the bed. i was very close of checking out, because i felt very claustrophobic in the room. However the hotel is very nice and the stuff was very friendly. If i would get a different room i would stay again in this hotel, but i'm not sure, if i would take the risk.

We had a great stay at the hotel. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful – truly exceptional service! The hotel is clean and well-maintained, even though the building is a bit old.||It’s located right next to a mosque, so the call to prayer can wake you at night. Breakfast was included, but limited to just three dishes and one order per person, which became a bit repetitive and sometimes left us still hungry.||Overall, a very pleasant hotel with outstanding service, though breakfast options are limited and there can be some noise from the mosque.

3 nights in September 2025. We arrived in Zanzibar late and were picked up by the hotel, after a short ride to the hotel we were shown to our room which was stunning. The next morning we enjoyed a beautiful breakfast and had a swim before heading into Stone Town. As we left our hotel we were approached by Eddie who offered to show us around the town as a verified guide. He was absolutely fantastic and took us all through the town to the local market where we saw incredible spices etc. Eddie bought us some red bananas to try which were delicious! We also went to the Slave Market Museum which was very harrowing but super educational and definitely a must visit. Eddie told us about the history of the town and showed us the beautiful architecture and doors throughout the town. Whilst walking through the town Eddie also bought a peanut brittle bar to share from a local woman selling on the street, this was delicious also! He recommended some restaurants 2 of which we ate at and were fantastic. Eddie also arranged a private boat trip to Prison Island and Nakupenda with a BBQ on the beach! He also arranged our taxi on to Kendwa. He really sorted us out! Our stay at Kholle House was topped off with a proposal on the rooftop terrace… Of course, I said YES! It was a beautiful setting and I couldn’t have imagined anything better.

Kholle is full of character and charm. Feels “authentic”. I had room 11. A bit on the small side maybe but it was quiet, a/c worked great, and always had hot water when needed. The crew that run the place are extremely friendly and the dinner I had one night was very good.

Such a beautiful hotel. The antiques in the hotel were so beautiful. The food was very tasty here. The location was really good, 5 min walk to the ocean. The staff were very friendly.

The Hotel has a nice scenery, very vintage and looks like a castle, the staffs are friendly and nice. I had a great stay, their dishes are affordable too.

We spent a night with family at Kholle House, perfect service, great food, very carefully decorated and maintained, perfect place to explore stone town
