I had a wonderful time here. It's tucked away in a quiet part of Stone Town but still within easy walking distance to everything. The food really impressed me, and the pool is a great size for a relaxing swim. I stayed in the Swahili Suite, which was spacious and had a comfy bed. There's a lot to appreciate in the place with its cosy, heritage vibe throughout the architecture and interiors. The staff were also chilled and helpful so it made things easy. If you enjoy boutique hotels this is certainly one to consider.

We stayed at Kholle House for 3 Nights and while the place has its charms, our overall experience was unfortunately overshadowed by a pest issue that may have been overlooked by the management.||The Positives:|The hotel has a lovely aesthetic, with beautifully decorated eclectic interiors that reflect a mix of Omani and royal touches. It certainly looks the part if you’re after something with character. The family room we had was spacious, which was great for spreading out and relaxing. The property grounds & the pool area were well maintained. The location is good.. a small walk to the car park & within easy reach of most places in Stone Town. Breakfast and service were acceptable, though nothing remarkable.||The Negatives: |The biggest issue for us was the state of the bathroom & the Kitchenette in our room—it had a serious pest problem. We found cockroaches crawling around, which was incredibly disappointing and honestly took away from our overall stay experience in a big way. Cleanliness & Hygiene is a basic & Non-Negotiable expectation, and this seemed like a long-standing issue rather than a one-off one.||While the manager was polite and did apologise, we were surprised that there wasn’t more effort to set things right. We were simply offered free laundry and a more thorough clean up — a gesture that felt a bit underwhelming considering the circumstances & complaints. Our stay was compromised & a discount on the room tariff would’ve gone a long way in showing that the hotel really cared & took its guest experience seriously.||Another downside was that the hotel didn't offer any lunch or dinner options, which made things a bit tricky since we were traveling with kids. ||All in all, while Kholle House has the potential to be a great & exquisite boutique hotel, Our experience was unfortunately let down by in-room hygiene.

The Kholle House was a wonderful experience. It's very centrally located, making it the perfect starting point for many excursions. The breakfast was excellent, and the dinner, with its many regional dishes, is also highly recommended. The staff in all areas were always very friendly and accommodating. I would especially like to thank Steve, the General Manager; Irene at reception for her fantastic support with my luggage, which was lost at the airline; Babu Ali, the night host and Daud, the driver for their helpfulness and friendliness.

A beautifull botuiqe hotel in the middle of Stone Town. Great for a walking tour of the city. The furnishment is so charming. The pool is a nice refresmenh in the heat. The manager Steve is absolutley amazing and so is the other staff. The room was clean and comfy. Breakfast not bad at all. All in all would recomend to stay. Very close to the night food market.

This is a wonderful hotel and I’m happy I ignored some of the low rating reviews, likely either given some time ago or by not well travelled people (it’s a 3 star hotel in east Africa, people really need to get a grip). The hotel accommodated my request for an early check-in (which is never guaranteed) and the staff really wonderful. There was absolutely no problem arranging a taxi for the airport (who arrived early), and as for exchange rates, just use TZ Shilling cash, getting good rates is just a silly expectation. The standard room with a single bed is compact but perfect for 1-2 nights, if you’re staying longer I recommend booking one of the bigger rooms with a balcony.

We stayed here one night while in Stone Town. The dining staff was very accommodating. The other staff not so much. Yes, it is a 3-star hotel in East Africa as one reviewer mentioned, and though we did try to manage my expectations, it was the worst night of our trip to Tanzania. It smells of old wood, fabric, and stone, needs a coat of paint on the interior and the bed was absolutely the worst. We would have been more comfortable sleeping on the floor, but wouldn't dare. It is not 3-stars. More like a 1-star. We did not feel safe at all and we are from New York City. The lock on our room from the inside was a medieval door bar and we had to use a padlock to lock the room from the outside. We had to drag our bags through alley ways to get to the hotel and then lug them about 1/4 mile to where our driver parked when we were leaving. The highlight was that the food was not bad.

The building is amazing, as a work of art, as a historical witness and as a living unit. Is in it self a piece of Stone Town soul, gathering in harmony the different cultural accomplishments. it works, mainly vertically, the rooms are well divided, organized and connected. |Personnel is helpfull, attentive and lovely.||Common spaces:|Reception is next to the entrance. It's quite an operational area and an eficient one. The check-in is warm and confortable, done in the living room. It seams as a music room too. Cozy chairs and beautiful decorations as also hapens at several small staying spaces, in niches and along connection rooms|The garden is deeply arab, refreshing, restful and intim, a feast for the senses. Miss a few places to lay down though. The swimming pool is clean and enough to be a good relieve after the heat and the city walks and discovery. Next to it is a Swahalli veranda, perfect for reading a book, playing table games or just have a meal, drink or nice conversation and gathering. Part of the garden works also as an extension of the dinning room, whitch, per si, makes the eating experience much better. From the 6 different restaurants I went, this was definitely the best. The food is made with knowledge and care. Going up, the rooftop terrace is generous but misses a bit of character to the function of |Tea House acess. This, on other hand, doesn't miss anything. Wonderful, for the view, the atmosphere, the furniture.||Private spaces:|I picked the more economic room. It's confortable, with a small bathroom and everything working well and in good state but has few natural light, which is a bit unsettling. ||Services:|There should be a dedicated space for massages.|The transfers are efficient as well as the tour services.|The tour offer should go beyond common tourist attractions

What a hidden gem in Stone Town! We stayed there for three nights and it was fabulous. Breakfast was 5-star; the hotel was kept very clean. We had a flight changed as soon as we booked in, and the manager and his staff went above and beyond what was expected to help us out. It was a real help. Even when we were leaving at the end of our stay, the taxi driver we had booked didn't turn up, so yet again we owe the staff as one of them phoned someone he knew to take us. So yes, what a hotel and fantastic staff!
