Magnificent castle that's definitely worth visiting when nearby. The road to the castle looks fairly new and well-maintained, but upon arrival it was a bit spooky as nobody was there and it looked abandoned. All in all, that's not a bad sign: it means there isn't mass tourism. There is no entrance fee and there is a small water fountain for refilling your water bottle.

It's a very cool place, rock climbing enthusiasts should definitely visit this place, but be careful with children and the elderly, it's not recommended to go here.

Update: This year I was unable to get to the castle. The path is completely ruined and dangerous. I don’t recommend going there anymore. It’s a pity local authorities decided that a huge parking lot in front of the fortress is more important than making the castle accessible to the visitors. I’m dropping this place from my itineraries until it’s safe.
The ruined castle offers delightful views and is worth dropping by if you have an extra hour to spare. But be aware that the walk to the fortress is not an easy one and definitely not for people afraid of heights. You will definitely need good sports shoes with a solid grip that will help you avoid slipping.

Awesome views. As others say bring good shoes and don't be afraid of heights to climb to the top. The road and area at the bottom is being built up for more visitors including a viewing deck on the opposite hill. Watch out for snakes. We came very close to a few long fat red snakes (vipers?) Definitely worth it.

There's a decent concrete road to the castle from Dedoplistskaro, but *not* from the other side of the ridge - I learnt it hard way.
