This popular street food joint, whose name "Hainanese" is associated with Chinese cuisine, is not recommended for those with a sweet tooth. The menu offered by the restaurant suggests a decent meal, but in reality, the dishes served are very mediocre. The meat is dry and tasteless, the rice is ridiculously small, and the preparation is reheated. Only naive tourists praise this establishment. The complete absence of locals in this place should be a warning sign. Remember that Thailand offers delicious cuisine even in the simplest places. So avoid this type of imported fast food, which seriously damages the country's reputation. Another warning sign: Orders are shouted by an employee whose shrill voice is so unbearable that customers run away. Thais would never dare do that ! Don't be fooled into believing reviews and check the quality and service by yourself before sitting down at a table. Take the time to discover, to make mistakes, like me, and to truly appreciate the multitude of culinary choices available in Thailand. Enjoy your meal !

As soon as you enter the Kiat O Cha Restaurant, you breath an air of a truly authentic place. The menu is rather limited, just a few dishes to choose from but all delicious. It is said that the best fried chicken in Chiang Mai is served here, so you can't avoid trying it. In addition to fried chicken, we also tried the boiled chicken and fried pork. Orders are taken verbally, literally shouted to the kitchen. Within minutes we were served and were able to enjoy our excellent lunch. Along with the meat, they always bring a side dish, accompanying sauces and for those who wish, white rice. We didn't try their satays, but I think it's worth it.

Very honoured to meet the second generation boss in picture who originated from Hainan China. He’s aged 84. Have handed the business to his son yet he insists on being at the shop to supervise the preparation of the chicken rice etc and take orders from customers, despite him just having his operation and using a walking stick. Eloquent in Mandarin and Teochew, he’s like my grandfather or father as we chatted about the restaurant’s history as well as his good advice for life. “When young we are all too busy making money and no time to enjoy life, travel or eat good food. Now at my age, I have a bit of money but can longer enjoy life like see the world and eat all the good food” - he said. The food typically reminds me of those cooked by my mum and grandma. Perhaps it’s the nostalgic moments and taste that I enjoyed most without any fanfare or extra ingredients and seasonings etc. We wished him good health and happiness after ordering another half chicken as takeaway. Hope he lives a ripe old age.

Chicken rice is good, the rice is fragrant and delicious. The chicken is reasonable for the price. First time trying the chicken blood, was pretty good. The complimentary soup was very good. The pork sate was great! Not dry, fragrant and the sate sauce was very good. The condiments of pickled veges was a lovely palatte cleanser.

Frankly speaking, the chicken rice here is average, at best. The portion they served is pathetic. The plate of chicken shown is for 5 pax. Ridiculous.

We accidentally bumped into this chicken rice shop while we were looking for a parking spot. What really stood out was the heritage (established 1957!). Eating here was like going back in time. I always appreciate eating at restaurants that are able to retain their original look and feel (you can tell they are family members or old staff that are like family members), and sadly it’s becoming a rarity. Food and drinks were all good. Rice portion was very small which was perfect for tasting. Better save quota for to experience the many cafes and restaurants around. :)

It’s one of the only places that are open at 6am. The owner was friendly. I ordered the chicken and rice - the meat was so tender. The food was delicious and very affordable prices. I was also very impressed by their kindness - one of the employees took some grilled meat skewers to feed a stray dog. I also saw the owners on a motorbike driving around the city and offering food to the monks walking around the city. I’d go back just to support their kindness

Very fast service, I ordered at the front kitchen and I got the food when I arrived my table (like 1 min) 👍 The place is very local. No AC so please expect heat during the day in summer 🥵 Chicken tasted good! I really liked the chicken soup. I think the sauce was a little too sweet for me. My total cost was 130 THB A plate of chicken 100 THB 2 plates of rice 20 THB A bottle of water 10 THB
