This is a long overdue review! Kick Pleat is my all-time favorite boutique for women's (some pieces work for men) clothes, shoes, and jewelry in Austin and beyond. Rush is my go-to design consultant (and now great friend), and he understands my style perfectly. The curated selection of designers, including WP Martin (the proprietor's line), is amazing, and there's not a day that goes by when I'm not wearing at least one piece I've purchased from KP. Thanks to all the KP stylists and curators who have helped me find my unique personal style over the years. Love ya'll. -kim

Kick pleat is my new favorite store to shop in Austin! It has great curated items, and the staff was really helpful. I visited from NYC, and bought a beautiful skirt for a few SXSW cocktail hours I got invited to at the last minute. I was looking for a unique piece - something that could be a good conversation starter at the party, and something I can wear back in the city that I knew wasn't something I'd see often. A way to bring a bit of the breezy fashion to my more structured NYC wardrobe. It definitely delivered. I could not stop getting complimented on my outfit!

Google
Kick Pleat is one of my very favorite boutiques to visit when I am in Austin. The curated styles, helpful and friendly sales people (SHOUT OUT to Chase!) and interesting brands make this place such a gem. I have purchased all of my Marla Aaron jewelry here and have found all my favorite brands. Thank you Kick Pleat for making fashion so fun!

Google
I don't live in Austin, but I am a devotee of Kick Pleat. I will drive three hours just to visit the store. The staff is extremely helpful and attentive without being overbearing. The collection of clothing is curated to perfection. A wide range of designers are available, and the staff is expert at assisting in putting an outfit together that is uniquely you. Every piece from Kick Pleat is polished and refined. Perfection!

Google
Georgeous clothing and a great stable of both established and upcoming designers. Stores of this caliber and price point usually fail terribly at 1) stocking a range of sizes and 2) employing truly welcoming, nonjudgmental staff -- both of which Kickpleat does wonderfully. By far my favorite boutique in Austin.

Google
One of the best women's boutiques in Texas. Thoughtfully edited collection and hard to find, classic designers. Incredible shoe collection. Fantastic stylists on staff. I have relied on them for years and they have dressed me for everything from picnics to funerals. I am never disappointed.

Google
There is nothing unique or Austin about this store, from the overpriced banal clothing to the discourteous Rodeo Drive attitude. The owner (or whoever was running the store) was not only negative, she is downright rude. It's been sad to see so many great, unique places that made Austin "Austin" go away only to be replaced by this pretentious strip mall culture over the last decade. Don't NYC our ATX.

Google
Was provided with a 15% off code for an ANNTIAN dress I had been eyeing for some time and, before purchasing, called the store to inquire about the best way to coordinate a pick up as I live in Austin. The person I spoke with told me the code was a mistake and they would not honor the price. Strange way to do business considering most other boutiques carry the same dress for $50 less.

Yelp
KickPleat has great stuff, but don't try and return anything after the strict 10 window of returns. Don't even think of asking for a price check if the item you purchased gets further marked down before you even open the package. There is no wiggle room in the customer "service" policies.

Ximena S.

Yelp
Sales people were extremely rude. What made me go inside was a pair of pants I saw on the window display but unfortunately they were $700!!!! They were just a plain pair of pants cute for Spring but not at that price. I found out that that was the average price for pants at this place. All the clothes weren't that interesting, they were very bland & boring for this price....very disappointed especially with the rude sales people

Yelp
So if an item is not available, I figured the client / customer will be made aware of and not have to wait to find out when the package arrives. I ordered 3 items, package arrives and there's only 2. I sent email to customer service and nothing until I called and was told the item was not available. That is when I was offered a refund but absolutely no apology or no courtesy. All customers need to be treated the same when that amount of money is being spent. This action is ridiculous!

Yelp
This is the cutest boutique in South Austin! It's so unexpected, being inside a non-assuming little house, but this place has garnered the attention of Lucky magazine, as well as local and national fashionistas. Everything selected is meant to be worn by stylish young women who adore vintage, Miu Miu and Marc Jacobs but can't afford the real deal. Well, the clothing isn't exactly affordable, but it is TERRIBLY drool-worthy. I seriously wanted everything in this store. The dresses, tops, scarves and bottoms are organized by color throughout the store, and there are only a few of everything. I totally wanted these purple, sparkly suede ballarina flats, as well as a couple of plaid coats and thick leather belts, but... well, maybe you can get them instead. I guess I'll keep dreaming about all the other beautiful things I'd love to buy....

Ahrat M.

Yelp
This is not a great place. Coming from the Pacific Northwest where fashion actually exists, the selection is rather bleak and well overpriced. Most of the clothing is actually similar to what could be had at a regular Goodwill in Bellevue or one of the Downtown locations in Seattle. Keep in mind paying $600 for a blouse that a dozen other people have tried on is somewhat of an aversion, especially when you go to try on a piece of clothing and it reeks of sweat. I've passed by here a few times, having been in Austin repeatedly, but I'd never go back after my last visit. The mucous from a child wiped on some clothing?...no thanks... EDIT: Also the service absolutely SUCKS. The management or whoever dealt with me was ridiculously rude for retail, and gave me the worst side-eye I've ever experienced based on my gender and probably my race. It was a generally unkind and pretentious interaction at BEST. So, people of color, and men interested in drag, better bet is to go to Nordstrom or online, someplace that has some decent human respect and return policies. Better yet, someplace that actually employs people of color.

Yelp
Loved this high end boutique. BTW, they are NOT located in that 'little house" anymore. They are in a cute store in a trendy looking shopping strip. They are 1 of 3 stores only in this small shopping strip of a mall. The bad thing about Austin, that no matter what the news says, Austin STILL has a long way to go when it comes to fashion. I checked out GREGORYS in the mall (they have a sister store on Robertson Blvd in LA), and also checked out BY GEORGE (of which there are two shops in Austin). So, bottom line, Austin has not discovered these designers as of yet: Maison Martin Margiela, Helmut Lang, Alexander Wang, etc etc etc. In fact, people's eyes glaze over when you mention these designers and it's really funny to watch. Austinites don't even KNOW what they are missing. Which is a shame. Yes, it's a college town so everyone is dressed down in Abercrombie & Fitch type clothing, cut-off shorts and T's. But that's not really fashion .... is it??? Absolutely NOT. The ladies that run Kick Pleat were wonderful, super friendly and would have dropped everything if I had asked them to help me with this or that. I took a good look around the store and the price range is anywhere from $80 - $500. So, that does rather qualify to be a high end clothing boutique. Of which I have found there is only THREE. 1) Kick Pleat 2) By George 3) Gregory's that's it. and I dare you to write me a message on yelp and prove that I'm wrong.

Yelp
I had a terrible experience and I didn't even set foot in this store. I posted a review on Google, but I will post a more detailed review here. It's Saturday, I went to drop off my boyfriend and was parked in this parking lot debating getting a bite to eat or go in and look at some clothes since I've never been to this store, meanwhile, surfing Facebook for a sec. Out of nowhere this lady bombards me right at my rolled down window and states very rudely, bluntly and inconsiderately "hi I work here and I need you to move your car, you're not shopping here and you're blocking traffic". Although not one but two people had already parked in the lot and went next door to eat. But they had nice cars and looked like they had money. In my case, I drive an old red SUV and I in fact do not drive a BMW or an up to date car. I'm so offended right now I can't even understand why a business minded person would even THINK to be so rude and invasive. This is the WORST display of Austin's friendly and laid back culture. I don't support this lady or her business ethics, I don't care who she is.

Yelp
I wasn't finding anything I was terribly in love with while shopping in Austin, and was told by a local friend that this was the place to go. They have a beautifully curated collection of clothing from awesome emerging designers that I love. I fell in love with a Hache dress and snatched it up immediately. The ladies there were completely honest with how things looked on me and weren't just in it to make me buy stuff. I appreciate that kind of sales approach versus other places that are just there to move merchandise. I may not live in Austin, but it's also great to know that I can always order online from their site as well. I'm happy to give these gals a rock solid 5 stars!

Yelp
Mostly boring clothes and some (or all) from high-end designers. Lots of big, sack-type things without much tailored shape. Good place for lovers of magazine clothing, wearing clothes made by someone with a big name, or people who feel value increases with the amount you pay. Service seemed fine--- was greeted at the door (which doesn't always happen).

Yelp
Totally adorable, and right now, many items are reduced by 50 - 75%, plus the shopgirl mentioned semi-annual garage sales! (This becomes important when items average around $200 to start with, but oh, such cute items). If you happen to be under size 12 and read Lucky magazine, you will adore this shop. The selection is heavily edited, so there's not much stock, but I think you could score if you're a skinny fashionista or are looking to entertain such friends when they come to town. Otherwise, ladies, I believe we all know the way to the Forever 21 in Highland Mall.

Yelp
Kick Pleat saved me a TON of time and guess work by having some really great and fairly hard to find items that my wife loved. The layout is really clean and they have quite a bit of stuff. Now in fairness the price can be a bit expensive its honestly the quality you pay for. I've purchased gifts for my wife elsewhere and maybe she's worn them two or three times, but the stuff I've purchased from Kick Pleat have been huge successes and pieces she's actually liked.

Yelp
I WAS really impressed by kick pleat the first time I went and shopped there, when it was still located on S. 1st...In a pretty old house. It was spare and clean feeling, had lots of great clothes, friendly girl behind the counter. Spendy yes, but I am not against that so much. When I had two of my favorite and most fashionable friends come visit from L.A. last month I was eager to take them shopping, and kick pleat was on the list! When we made it to the new location I was a little bummed immediately...It is in a strip mall. Nuf said. And then we went in. What we found.. 1. Icy cold saleswoman who barely said Hi and then just sat staring at her computer. 2. ridiculous silence. If there was any music playing I didnt hear it...and we were the only ones in the store. It felt really uninviting. 3. Approximately 7 items for sale...all in size 0 or 2. 4. SIGNIFICANTLY higher prices than I remembered. I was actually kind of EMBARASSED to have brought my friends in. We were done looking at all 7 items in about 30 seconds and then we awkwardly walked out and I apologized.

Yelp
Kick Pleat is housed across from Texas School for the Deaf on South First Street at the northern end of SoFi. The retailer deals in expensive fashion conscious women's clothing. Here's my take: -one point for a cool name -one point for a cool location -one point for some good-looking jeans -minus a point for a semi-friendly staff and for an employee taking some jeans from my hands and telling me she'll start a fitting room for me when I had simply picked them up to look at them -one point for some darling shirts, skirts and jackets -no points for a good amount of space, but not a lot of product Overall, I wasn't impressed, but maybe you will be. After all, as Clarisa said, they've garnered local and national praise. Kick Pleat is maybe worth a visit.

Yelp
Kick Pleat is an ok boutique located in a strip mall. It's no longer in the little old house people talk about in their reviews. They have a small but nice selection of clothes and jewelry - but it's really expensive, especially for what they're offering! It's more of a special occasion shop than an every day place. I read another reviewer's suggestion -- they definitely need music! It felt too sterile and weird without it - plus it's Austin! There's live music in the airport, they can certainly put some tunes on in a hip boutique!

Yelp
I LOVE this store. I needed an outfit for an art opening in Dec and had looked everywhere. I was almost hopeless when someone recommended I try Kick Pleat. An hour after walking in the door the staff had helped me try on a whole range of outfits. I picked my favorite and felt like a million bucks at the opening. For my next opening in Jan I didn't even bother going anywhere else. I just walked into Kick Pleat and left with a perfect top in under 30 minutes. THANK YOU KICK PLEAT!!!!

Yelp
Love this shop and staff. Beautifully styled clothing lines by global fashion designers. Collections are colorful with unique appointments and quality fabrics. Worth the $$$.

Yelp
When people say 'high end' they mean it. If you can afford $800 tops and $500 shoes, by all means you'll love this place. I can certainly afford to spend a pretty penny on clothes but this place is way out of my price range.

Tracy R.

Yelp
The woman who works here just came out and threatened to tow my friend and I. Little did she know we were there to shop and just waiting for another friend to show up. Not a good look considering the past 2 stores that have been in this location have shut down.

L. C.

Yelp
The hot/cold customer service continues at this boutique with one sales girl friendly and helpful and the other cold and silent. As for the clothing, the word "designer" does not always translate to good taste/functional clothing/ or worth the price. However, most of the pieces in this boutique are unique and very well made in relation to material/style/tailoring. 80% of the styles in this boutique were ones that could be worn for special events, work, & even weekends when you want to wear something luxurious or of just great quality. Shoes were just okay as most were "off" styles that looked either too plain to warrant the $300+ price tag or caricaturist looking. Costume jewelry options leaned towards the heavy chunky side on my visit and although definitely beautiful pieces, why pay $300+ towards a piece of costume when one can put that towards a Lagos/Yurman/Coin piece instead? My rating of 2 stars is because most of the styles were geared towards model tall & thin which leaves the bulk of the population out and this obvious intentionality comes across as a veneer of exclusivity founded on nothing substantial.

Yelp
I am NUTS about kickpleat. I actually have a joke with the impossibly stylish owner (Wendi) about how I want 1 of everything when I walk into Kick Pleat. If you have that last minute event to attend and nothing to wear, it's Kickpleat to the rescue- never lets me down! The collection of clothes is sophisticated and fresh, with a European sensability - every outift could be on the Sartorialist. Go now!

Yelp
i love kick pleat! it is always impeccably curated with a great mix of emerging and well-known designers and a good range of price points. there's a little something for everyone here. the jewelry and shoe selections are out of control good. they also have some really great sales from time to time. if you're ever in need of styling advice, wendi, the owner, is a master and will fix you right up. love this place.

Yelp
My favorite store EVER! There are some great boutiques like kp in New York, but I still find more I love right here. I've shopped at kickpleat since it opened and I have to say I thought this past Fall was their best season yet but after going in yesterday and seeing the new beauties that have started arriving for Spring I may change my mind. Yeah, it's expensive. I just figure in these times I'd rather spend a little more and buy fewer pieces that I know will still look current year after year than a bunch of trendy crap that's going to make its way to Buffalo Exchange in six months. Plus, I get the added feel good bonus of shopping locally. Kick Pleat is THE place to shop in Austin if you are looking for unique and beautiful clothes by designers you aren't going to see on everyone else!

debbie s.

Yelp
What a disappointment! I went in recently wanting to find some new things, and very able to pay their high prices. I was the only person in the shop yet the shopgirl barely said hello and no offer to help me. Another (apparently frequent) shopper came in, and shopgirl lit up and could not have been more helpful to that shopper. Needless to say, I went on to find many things at other stores downtown where there was more selection with friendly and helpful sales staff.

Angie B.

Yelp
The best women's boutique in Austin, hands down. I have been a regular customer for several years now and the inventory and styling expertise are spot on--versatile, classic and quality.. Wendi (owner), Michelle (manager) and staff are amazing. The savings from design expertise far outweigh the price point, which is still excellent given the quality merchandise. I have sent far more of my Neiman's designer pieces to resale but seem to retain my kick pleat pieces above all else.na great blend of style and value.

Nancy O.

Yelp
I second what Clarisa R. said. This is DEFINITELY the cutest boutique in Austin. The clothes are simply beautiful. I love everything. The staff is so friendly, not like some other boutiques in town (fetish). I also heard that Rose McGowan recently bought jeans there. A little celebrity shopping never hurts, eh? Their shoe selection is not too shabby either! The shoes that I've purchased there quickly become my favorites and I find myself creating outfits around them. I recommend this for anyone who is looking for something truly special that no one else in town will be wearing. Or if you just need a new pair of jeans. Kick Pleat will have exactly what you need.
