Kigusuriya

Our stay at Kigusuriya couldn’t be more perfect. From the room (we booked the Japanese style room for 5 people) to the food to hospitality, we felt so spoiled and relaxed during our stay. The ryokan is located in a small village in the Miyama area, but since they offer rides to the thatched village and to and from the JR stations, it wasn’t a problem at all. We got some nice snow on our second day which turned the area into a winter wonderland. Thank you for the unforgettable stay.

We had a wonderful stay at Ryokan Kigusuriya. The location is peaceful and surrounded by nature. The room was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. We really enjoyed the delicious chicken sukiyaki dinner and beautifully prepared Japanese breakfast. There’s also a private small onsen, perfect for relaxing. You can really feel the care and effort from the owner and his wife. Highly recommended for a quiet getaway!

We are a family of 3 and had an amazing 1 night stay at Ryokan KIGUSURIYA. This is exactly what we were looking for : more authenticity. We were warmly welcomed by the owner. We enjoyed the Kaiseki dinner as well as the breakfast the next morning. We spent some time in the onsen in the evening (has to be booked with the owner first) and had a nice walk along the river in the morning. The futons mattresses were more confortable than I expected, we had a good night (it is possible to ask more layers if needed). We stayed in October and it was suddenly cold outside, inside our room was warm. If you arrive by car, there is a parking lot across the road.

We truly enjoyed staying in Yumi-san's home for a night. She picked us up from the train station and even brought us to visit the Kayabuki Sato thatched houses. We were so happy with the additional service and already make us feel so comfortable.||Arriving at her beautiful home, we were brought to our rooms. We were the only family on that day so we had the additional living hall to ourselves. Yumi's family were very hospitable and friendly and attended to our needs. We had our dinner and breakfast cooked by Yumi's husband who is a professional chef who has worked in a Japanese restaurants for many years. We are so lucky :) And we had the opportunity to savor their own grown Japanese rice and persimmon. It was a great experience to stay in a Japanese home and experience the local and not modern living. I highly recommend this to everyone.

This Ryokan was everything we wanted. It was good that they arrange pick and drop off at the station. Pickup from Hiyoshi station and taken to Kayabuki no Sato, a beautiful village of thatched houses in Mayama. Got picked up again after a couple of hours to go to Kigusuriya. Very quiet and peaceful. Meals served in our private dining area - the teriyaki chicken was cooked on the table with vegetables fresh off the farm. The onsen was brilliant. We were on our own so it was very private. The website however is a little difficult to navigate and each days booking needs to be done separately. Though we didn't know any Japanese, it was pretty straightforward after reaching there - Google translate was enough.

We loved our stay at Kigusuriya. We were made to feel very welcome and were well looked after despite not knowing a lot of Japanese. We were offered lifts in the family car and also allowed to borrow the bikes for a lovely cycle ride. The food was excellent quality and the bath was superb especially after a long day cycling! Thank you Kigusuriya for a memorable trip!

We had an amazing stay at Kigusuriya, the beds are comfy, the tatami floors are heated, the chicken pot and Japanese breakfast are spectacular. All the amenities are in very good condition. The furo facing the garden is a great place to unwind after a long day of travelling. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone who would want a comfortable stay around this area.
