Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge

We recently had the opportunity to stay at Serena Kilaguni and I cannot recommend it enough. The location is just beautiful, the watering hole is perfectly situated and no matter what time of day, you will see various animals coming for water. Despite the scenic location, I would say a highlight was the staff! Everyone we interacted with was so helpful and accommodating, even going the extra effort to make sure my little daughter had food she liked to eat and activities to do. The manager was wonderful, helpful, and professional, the guide was great, and food staff did a great job. I have food allergies and have stayed at a lot of different resorts in Kenya over the years and have encountered many chefs who do not always fully understand various allergies or who are not always able to adequately explain the ingredients in some foods. This can be a major challenge when traveling. The Chef at Kilaguni was so knowledgeable, he could quickly describe each dish, had awareness of ingredients with specific allergens in them, and was willing to make something I could eat if certain dishes were not ok. He was really exceptional with that and it is not always easy to find!

Sadly when we visited the pool was unavailable but in all other aspects this was a wonderful visit. Rooms and the restaurant/bar overlook a waterhole and we were lucky enough to see a large family of elephants drinking there. Staff were lovely, the grounds very well kept and food excellent.

The view from the restaurant and bar terrace of a waterhole with elephants, zebras etc so close makes this lodge amazing with a wow factor on arrival. Staff were lovely and accommodating, food very good for buffet food, our room with balcony and yet another view of the waterhole with large elephant families, zebras, large birds and hyenas at different times of the day made the stay very special. The only downside was that some staff seemed to be unusually officious and directive, probably because it is quite a large lodge, but it took a little away from the family feeling from other Serena lodges we had stayed in on our trip. Overall though, absolutely stay here because it is worth it for the view alone! Pool was closed for refurbishment when we stayed and maybe will be for a while so check in advance if that is important.
