Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park Guide: This Hawaiian National Park Is Home to One of the World’s Most Active Volcanoes – Here’s How to Visit
"Standing on the edge of Kīlauea Caldera offers a profound experience — you can take in the vastness of the caldera and hear the wind and the whispering hiss of volcanic steam — and it's the place where the volcano erupts and collapses; the caldera and summit were dramatically altered during the devastating 2018 eruption, which produced large lava flows that destroyed over 700 homes, tens of thousands of earthquakes, towering ash plumes, and a massive caldera collapse." - Kait Hanson
Enjoy the fascinating monument that this is. A combination of volcanic lava accumulation while at the same time rising over the years and reacting to the deep ground below (temperature, lava movement, etc.). Many viewpoints to get to this and many ways to enjoy (near side, far side, from the top and down below).

A must see when on Hawaii's Big Island. Recently, the volcano has been putting out spectacular scenes of lava spewing into the air.
Many have visited the volcano when there was no lava or very little seen. Whichever the case when you visit be sure to stop and spend some time at Volcanoes National Park.
Kids and adults alike will find the park worthwhile.

I flew from Maui to Honolulu to Hilo took Uber to Kileaua volcano walking trail I walked 50 feet down the path saw the bright red glow saw the lava flowing and because of the 2,200 acre wildfire burning next to Kileaua volcano the smoke triggered the monster that lives in my body asthma exacerbations came from the depths of my lungs by 8:33pm I was rushed code 3...45 minutes to Hilo Medical center straight to rapid response...from the 9th to the 12th admitted to the hospital...I missed Kileaua erupt from the 2 vents showering lava over 1,000 feet into the air for over 3 hours and then episode 36 ended on 4:19pm HST on the 10th of November 2025...

It was great hiking around the crater and through the lave tube. We missed the amazing eruption by 3 days. My daughter Julie & her husband Chris and the twins Alex& Andrew were there for the event 🤗

This was truly an amazing unbelievable experience to witness a huge lava eruption at Halema’uma’u crater on 6-2025. Though my family goes back 5 generations from Hilo, never got to see a lava eruption as a kid before. Wanted to give a BIG MAHALO TO THE VOLCANO NATIONAL PARK STAFF whom did an awesome job at being patient to the thousands of visitors parking everywhere this June-July 2025. They deserve a BIG MAHALO!!

Love the little walk alongside the overlook point. Kind of reminds me of Bryce Canyon and the Grand Canyon with the way its set up. Great panoramic views of the whole crater and surrounding valley. I was on a tour, otherwise I would have found a way to hike down there.

We hooked around and saw multiple vista's. It is bleak and baron and yet beautiful with life returning. The steam vents were active at some of the overlooks but we saw nothing moving inside the crater. People were walking around inside one of the older craters.
