Google
This review is based on the sandwiches (get the sunflower bread), the snack options, and the kindness of the employees. Sandwiches were delicious and very filling. Perfect to grab for a trail hike! Don't get the pre-packaged Salads- they were decidedly non fresh

Google
Great store stocked with all the provisions you need and want in a small local market. The deli did not disappoint! We picked up sandwiches and snacks everyday before heading out to explore. The homemade banana bread and macadamia nut bars were delicious. We found the staff friendly and helpful.

Google
Well stocked local shop with most of the basics. The Lilikoi bread and home-baked cookies were delicious ($4 and $2 respectively). None of the prices are marked so it's best to ask before buying - we got caught out twice : $13 for a loaf of bread and $13 for a bag of prawn crackers 😧

Google
Love this place. They have wonderful baked goods, especially the macnut bars. If anyone figures out how to make these I would love to know. We also tried the banana and pumpkin bread. They also make to order sandwiches. I have attached the menu of items that they will put on it. The store has about anything that you could need: Wine, beer, food, snacks, and baked goods.

Google
Came in for a byo sandwich before heading to volcano national park and wasn’t disappointed. The veggie sandwich was delicious, super fresh, and reasonably priced. It was so good we went back 2 more times.

Google
Such kind service and truly all the things one would need! Great fresh baked goods and grab and go breakfast, feels like they’re honestly there to help out. Thank you so much!

Google
Big O's was delicious. Lots of meat and toppings. 4 stars for the price. It ain't cheap.

Google
Stopped in for a latte and was shocked by how many options there were. Adorable store with homemade sandwiches, grocery items and local baked goods. Definitely recommend on your way to the park for a quick stop for a coffee, snack or lunch (or all three)!

Yelp
Okay, this isn't a big box store, but it has the essentials. It is located in a rural part of Hawaii, beautiful and scenic but also lacking in big city amenities. There is always a tradeoff, so please keep this in mind. Since we don't always like to eat out, we visited here often. Considering our accommodations, we didn't find traditional meal items here. However, we found sufficient breakfast and lunch items. We always enjoy these type of very local grocery markets. We are able to find items for having breakfast at our accommodations or lunch on the road.

Yelp
This little store has a surprisingly good selection of key items for your stay. The homemade banana bread and Mac nut cookie bars are delicious! And the cashiers are very helpful and friendly,

Yelp
I live in Volcano and I go to the store regularly. I think the deli sandwiches are very good. The fresh baked goods like banana bread and pumpkin bread are very good. The groceries are on the expensive side. The only real complaint I have is that anytime I have purchased any ice cream from here, it's always been melted before it got into the freezer and it's almost inedible when you open the boxes. I really never said anything, but it's very frustrating. Oh and under no circumstances, do you ever buy gas from this place! The most expensive gas I've seen on the whole island. The good: great neighborhood market with a good deli and espresso machine and friendly staff The bad: It's a bit expensive for grocery items and the gasoline is almost ridiculously expensive. Chances, I'll be back: Yes! Good local store with some delicious baked goods and very good deli sandwiches. And a friendly stuff.

Yelp
Stopped here for a sandwich while visiting the national park. It was great! They do made to order sandwiches and use fresh bread, we had the sunflower bread and it was great! Perfect little stop for our day hiking! Staff were friendly also, they had some pre packed wraps and salads too.

Yelp
Stopped in here for a quick snack after hiking in Hawaii Volcano National Park and was super pleased to see so many healthier food options. People were nice, they have coffee ready to go, and they sell some fun sweatshirts and hats for the adjoining Lava Cafe

Yelp
Made a stop here while on the way to Volcanoes National Park. As the name states, it is a general store with all the general stuff, that also doubles as a gas station! However, there are sandwiches made to order and the cashier lady was super nice. Bathrooms are located outside if people in your party are in need of relieving oneself. Additionally there is also a small restaurant adjacent to the general store in the same building. This place is great for a pit stop and a quick snack on your way to Volcanoes National Park.

Yelp
Your NYC corner bodega sandwich spot, at the Volcano? Self-proclaimed sandwich authority here to tell you that this is a great value and great taste pick. Spent 4 days at the volcano and ate almost everywhere, this is a great pick for lunch, especially if you're trying to grab and go. Pro-tips: Get 2+ meats, your sandwich will be twice as big. And ask for lighter mayo, they pile on pretty heavy. Otherwise, fresh meats, breads, and fixins. Get it!

Yelp
Not sure who handles the baked goods here, but that person needs to receive a double gold star. The Macadamia Nut bar is one of the best things I ever ate. Looking forward to grabbing one of those next year hopefully!!

Yelp
The prices at this place are criminal. No prices are posted so if you stop here you had better be in a survival mode. Don't shop here.

Yelp
A perfectly reasonable General Store in Kilauea As someone else wrote, it's a bodega in Kilauea - except the made to order items are American/Hawaiian. They have a little of this, a little of that, and not a whole lot of anything. We bought some frozen pizzas and burritos, a loaf of Punalu'u Taro bread (yum!), and some amazing 'homemade' breads and macnut bars. Definitely a place to supplement your purchases from a Hilo supermarket...not a replacement for one.

Brianna M.

Yelp
One stop shop for most of your needs in Volcano. Espresso drinks are solid and the made-to-order sandwiches exceeded my expectations. Perfect stop before heading into the park for the day.
google avatar

Yelp
Let me just say this has to be the MOST expensive gas station on the island. What a joke! If you are driving through Naalehu or Kurtistown, fuel up! You will pay a full dollar more for gas than either of those places. Only stop if you are driving on fumes!
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
Slightly above average bodega. Has: Aloha, ATM, beers, snacks, gas. It's kinda spendy but this is Volcano, what do you want from me?

Adam P.

Yelp
Extremely rude person behind the counter treated my father, who unlike me is a tourist here, like complete garbage. Made fun of us for asking after the presence of an employee there, and for asking for a sandwich. It is a sandwich shop, after all. Lied to our faces about not having any sandwiches, as well, which another customer ahead of us in line pointed out to us helpfully while the girl behind the counter treated us as if we had personally offended her. Really left a stain on my dad's vacation. It's sad because their baked goods are primo, but the giggling and poking fun were unacceptable, and the management did not bother to respond to a complaint. I've lived on this particular island for several years and never had an experience like this anywhere else.

Come on S.

Yelp
Probably the most expensive convenience store and gas station on the island... definitely another tourist trap...

Yelp
This rating is for the coconut bars they sell in the store. Oh My God. Heaven in the mouth tasty good! Chewy and gooey and soooo good. I have got to find a recipe for this, but I will probably die from a sugar overdose. Oh well, it'd be worth it.

Yelp
Eh. Way too expensive, and a lot less options than the Volcano Store down the street. If you need to come here for an emergency supply and Volcano Store is closed, than do so.. the great news is, they do carry the basic necessities (bread, milk, butter, etc..). The folks working here seemed pleasant enough, but the prices are outrageous and clearly higher than the Volcano Store, so save yourself a few bucks and keep going down the road a few blocks.

Yelp
If you are on your way to the see the lava flow at Volcano National Park, this is one place I suggest you stop along your way. They have a variety of local products/specialty foods that tourists like...tropical fruit jams, Kona coffee, etc. One of my favorite finds here was the passion fruit butter spread, "Liliko'i Gold" for $5.69 a jar. I wished I had gotten about a dozen to ship home, as it was delicious. If you like passion fruit, pick some up. They usually have some local arts and crafts for sale, as well. If you are looking for the essentials, you can find them here, too. They sell gasoline (usually a little pricey) You can also grab a cup of coffee to go...freshly brewed Kona coffee...and it was the most affordable cup of coffee in the area. Definitely worth checking out.

Federico C.

Yelp
The staff is friendly but the espresso was very bad and they charged me a double shot for a single shot (I've realized only at home). Some items (such as flashlights) are less expensive than the Volcano Store down the street.
google avatar

Yelp
This was the closest market to our rental in Volcano. We didn't feel like eating out and there is no fast food restaurants nearby. This market is expensive. But, you are paying for convenience and the fact that you don't have to drive to Hilo. They have a very small selection of goods. We picked up some frozen burritos and a $5 bag of Cheetos. They also sell gas.
google avatar

Angel L.

Yelp
A solid stop to get what you need here. Fuel for your car, for your stomach. They sell a bit of everything. We picked up an energy drink, coffee, and a hot cocoa. Glad we got the hot cocoa because it was chilly back in Kilauea!

Yelp
Perhaps before you start bashing tourists, you should check to see if any are about to spend over $100 there before you tick them off and cost yourself a sale. The woman who was going off at the lip walked between me and the clothes (with their logo on them) with her empty crock pots several times and seemed to do it to shoo us out of there. Not a problem lady. After that attitude, there's no way in heck I would pay $40+ for your zip up fleece to advertise for you! Go up the street to Volcano Store where you're treated like ohana whether you're local or not. We went there 4x and were always greeted with a smile and their prices are much better too.

Yelp
This is such a cute little store. They have it all, even the cutest little red mascot kitty who lives in the parking lot. Go for the coffee and snacks, stay for the kitty :) PS: Damn good lattes too :)
google avatar

Yelp
The general store was the midpoint between the south side and Hilo on the old highway. The old highway was just wider than one lane. It was like a beacon for the long trek. People always stopped for gas, hotdog and coffee or hot cocoa. On our way home, we would stop for gas and flowers. They still sell flowers. We got anthuriums to bring to the cemetery on our way home. They have snacks that are made locally. Bring a jacket. It's cold in these parts.

Yelp
Staff is very friendly. Stopped in to pick up some beverages for the road. Found out they had baking and took the suggestion of Mac nut and chocolate chip cookies. Very good! Maybe back tomorrow to pick some up again! :)

Yelp
Between the reasonable prices for the few grocery items we ran out of during our stay and the great little coffee bar in the store, we found ourselves coming here every morning. The fresh baked goods near the register just puts this place over the top. I might have to fly all the back to Hawaii for one more of those deliciously rich macadamia bars!

Carin R.

Yelp
Ripoff! I stopped in at this store because the store next to the post office was closed already on New Year's Eve. I was shocked to see they charged $3 more for a bottle of Barefoot wine than the other store. A snickers candy bar was over $2!! the owners of this store are clearly aiming to get rich off the tourist. So beware, drive a little further down the road and you'll leave with a few more dollars in your wallet. Please note that I am a local resident and didn't realize that they aren't a community friendly store until I saw the prices. They truly are greedy. I'd rather do without than spend my money there.

Jm C.

Yelp
I walked through. The prices are really out there, they know they have a captive audience.

Yelp
Great place to stock up on anything you need while in the Volcano area. Lots of food, snacks, frozen food, pharmacy items, wine....I think they even had movie rentals. I had one of the best lattes ever at the coffee window where they will also make sandwiches for you that you can take to go to the park. Behind the coffee window there is an area where they have delicious looking homemade breads---banana macadamia nut, pumpkin, etc. Wish we would have gotten some!

Yelp
Kind of a cute little place with a nice variety of local foods for bringing home with you - mac nut candies, jams, curds [or fruit butters] - and otherwise basically your normal convenience store, but with some stuff we don't see on the mainland. Attached to it is a little deli with some baked foods - I hear the pastries are excellent but we didn't see any the day we were here. We did get subs to take with us to the park, however, and at about six bucks they are average priced, but they are pretty big sandwiches. Choice of meat, cheese, veggies, condiments, and bread - not special maybe, but worth the price, definitely.

Yelp
This place has amazing sandwiches and mac nut bars. Really a shocker. Get the sandwiches, bread is awesome. We grabbed teo as a snack for kids and after trying a bite went in to get two more. 7 bucks each

Erica C.

Yelp
The sandwich shop inside (Big O's) had surprisingly delicious sandwiches. Great option for a to-go lunch when hiking the volcano. Definitely recommend.

Glenda N.

Yelp
Stopped for gas and snacks at the great little spot. Had honest service and delicious local treats!
