The hostel is in a fantastic location and the rooms were absolutely perfect however the host accused of us leaving pizza in the room🍕 and losing a key. The fabricated accusation cost us €40 of our hard earned money. Will not be returning

Great hostel in a perfect location with very reasonable prices. I stayed in an 8 bed dorm with typical hostel comfort levels. There was a nice kitchen with good cooking utensils and shared spices. Dining room and sitting room were both nice and the staff was very friendly and helpful. When I left I forgot my hiking boots and they arranged a delivery to Dublin through a bus company. I am very grateful they were so accommodating.

The staff at check in were super friendly. The hostel in the perfect location, right in the centre of town. Considering the price and location, we couldn't have asked for any more. The hostel is very clean. We booked a room for 4 people and it was perfect. Would definitely stay here again.

I don’t usually leave reviews but under these circumstances I feel it’s necessary. The staff in this hostel were really friendly, hostel dorm room was clean, bathroom was a bit dirty and as a woman I didn’t feel too comfortable with the gender neutral showers but I could look past that until my last night. On my last night I woke up about 4am to the sound of a middle aged man in my room urinating in the corner by what I believed to be someone else’s bed. After this he went back to his own bed while making very strange sounds. As a young woman I felt very unsafe and vulnerable especially due to the strange noises the man was making. I was staying in the hostel with a friend the same age as me ( 21 ) and there was also two other young women in the room who I’m sure felt just as unsafe and vulnerable as we did. The room smelled awful the next morning so much so that one of the other girls had to ask my friend to open the window. I’m someone who has recently backpacked all around Europe and stayed in numerous different hostels and not once did I experience anything like this nor feel as unsafe as I did in this place and in my own country. I know this isn’t the staffs fault and as I said the staff themselves were lovely and when we told the receptionist the next morning about what happened he was very apologetic. However I feel that I need to leave this review because I don’t want any other young woman to feel the same way I did last night.

it’s a great hostel with nice people, I only stayed there for one night but it felt familiar. The beds, bathrooms, kitchen and sitting room were clean and tidy. I‘d go there again!

Cheaper then other hostels I have been in, Is located in a good spot with a very nice vibe and staff. The showers have wierd controls, which I was not used to and the flow was a weak. The room themselves are average. In addition In the middle of the night there there was a truck that was unloading kegs of beers from the brewery that is close by and it did make a lot of noise. Other then that - really good hostel to anyone who want to explore kinkelly

Lovely place, lovely people. Enjoyed my time there. They also allowed me to keep my bags in hostel even after checking out which was very nice of them.

Yelp
I found the Kilkenny Tourist Hostel while searching Trivago for cheap online deals for a long weekend visiting friends last month. I ended up booking a bed in one of the 6 bed, female dorms for just €53, paying a tiny deposit online and the rest up front on arrival. The hostel does not take credit cards so bring cash or visit the nearby atm before you check in! I was greeted by a really friendly, laid back guy who gave me a key and door code as well as a run through of house rules and where to find everything. I was also upgraded to a smaller 4 bed dorm room as they were obviously fairly quiet and I made my way up to check out the room which was basic but clean. It consisted of two single beds, a bunkbed, a large open wardrobe and a sink and mirror in the corner. On the first night there were just two of us is the room and the second night we were joined by another two Spanish girls. In my third night I had the whole place to myself! Facilities in the hostel were basic but I was never left wanting. Each floor had a small, double cubicle bathroom and a separate shower room with two showers, and a sink and mirror. Towels can be provided for an extra couple of Euro, just ask on reception on check in! On ground level there is a lovely sitting room with big comfy couches and a fireplace, a really great spot to sit with a good book or to make new friends. There is an ancient laptop here that can be used by residents if they need it, lots of tourist guides and history of the town and a handful of board games. This is locked by 10 or 11. The kitchen consists of everything you could need, a decent dining area, a cooker, microwave, large countertops, a huge fridge and freezer. Customers can use all of these facilities but are asked to finish cooking by 10pm to ensure that smoke alarms don't go off and wake up residents! Staff here are super friendly and have great insights into what's happening in the town and recommendations for events, sightseeing, live music, pubs and restaurants. Check out is at 10am but staff offered to keep my bags while I was out exploring on my final day. Did I mention the dog? There is also the SWEETEST, most adorable little schnauzer having a snooze at reception from time to time which absolutely made my weekend! :D

Yelp
This is what I'd call your average middle of the road independent hostel. Reception was adequate - but not particularly friendly. Kitchen is well-equipped, but no breakfast. Place was kept fairly clean - not disgusting, but not great either. Our private room had a window pane out of place which made for a chilly night. I also requested a private room with a double bed, and was disappointed to be placed in a room with a bunkbed and two twin beds. Major downer was we were there the day before the hurling championship (who knew) which meant PARTAY time. Many of the hostels guests did not quiet down until 4 in the morning, and they were very rowdy. Hostel owners did nothing to quiet them down - it must have kept the whole place up! I am ok with a 1 or 2 am bedtime on a Saturday - but 4 am? All in all, ok for a cheap, safe sleep, but if you have the bucks go elsewhere.

Yelp
Myself and a group of friends from all over Ireland were having our annual meet up and decided that Kilkenny would be the spot we'd stay. Rather than us all stay in different locations, we decided to try and book the same place and would look into staying in a Hostel, luckily The Kilkenny Tourist Hostel had enough room for us all. I dealt with Angela mainly, mostly by email, but we chatted over the phone a few times too. She was extremly friendly, and always very helpful. The Hostel itself was a great size with plenty of rooms. Due to the size of our group, we each had to pay a €20 deposit each, but we received this on check out again. The rules for the deposit were fairly simple, no smoking or drinking in the bedroom, don't lose your room key, don't be making loads of noise late at night which effects others in the hostel. The room I stayed in myself was "The Green Room" which had 12 beds (6 bunk beds). One thing that some may have an issue with is the room had windows on both sides, the front side had indoor shutters to block out the light, but the rear side windows didn't, so the room was fairly lit up when the sun came up at about 7am or so. This didn't really bother me, but just something to consider if you struggle with sleeping. The hostel had everything we needed, we didn't use the kitchen though, but it looked to have everything you'd want. The bathrooms and showers for us weren't ensuites, I'm not sure if they have rooms with ensuites, but it didn't bother us at all. The bathroom facilities were well maintained and clean. The hostel also had free Wifi which seemed to be a decent speed also. Security wise the hostel felt very safe. You can't get in the main door without the entry code which supposedly changes regularly (but is written down on your pass so you wont forget). At night also there is a doorman also. Check out was at 10am, but you can hang around the hostel if you are waiting for a bus later in the day for example. The location is great too, and there is a fantastic pub across the road named "The Pumphouse" which has a pool table and an open fire, so you could easily pass away a few hours here. Overall, every one of us in the group were happy with the hostel and would have no problems staying here again or recommending it to a friend.
