A beautiful early medieval Christian site, well worth a visit, the Romanesque church ruin dates from the Norman period, but it's built on top of a much older church, and so there are remnants of earlier periods within the churchyard. These include an ogham stone, sun dial and a very early example of a stone cross. It's thought that the earlier church may have been built to replace the nearby Gallarus Oratory. An important site to the community for many centuries, this is a place that both history enthusiasts and pilgrims will enjoy.

No entry fee required. Anyone interested in history or architecture I would highly recommend this location. The whole of the surrounding area is full of great examples of Early Christian Ireland and earlier. Would highly recommend 👌

Quick little stop, interesting building and graveyard. Only space for about 3-4 cars to be parked at a time so just be mindful of how you park

It's worth the visit. 8.6km from Dingle town by car. Well preserved 12th century church and beautiful, tranquil surrounding area. Also, there is a walk that leads you to the top of the hill behind the church. About 45 mins hike to the top, and you can continue down the other side to Cathair Scoilbín.

Spectacularly situated ancient church and graveyard. The last church in Europe. Next church to the west is in Newfoundland, 1,700 miles away (2,700 km). I'm biased because my ancestors are buried here, but its pretty cool.

Lovely old church. Founded in the 600's and built in the 1200's.

The church grounds were fascinating with informational signs to help identify areas. There is not a lot of parking and the lane is narrow so it can be challenging if there are a lot of people. The church has the alphabet song inside , the ogham stone just out the front walk and the sundial down the little hill by a statue of St. Mary. St. Brendan's house is just across the lane but the gate had been locked so I believe the land owners don't want people to visit.

Kilmalkedar Church (or Cill Maolcheadair) is a historical site on the Dingle Peninsula that includes a 12th-century Romanesque church ruin and other ancient monuments like an Ogham stone, sundial, and alphabet stone. It was founded by St. Maolcethair in the 7th century and is also strongly associated with St. Brendan the Navigator. The site is situated on the Cosán na Naomh pilgrimage path. Our tour bus stopped here soon after visiting the Blasket Island Visitor's Center on our way back to Dingle. As I'm on a local Nevada Cemetery Board, Graveyards intrigue me in terms of headstone design, what's stated on them, and the honoring of those we died during Ireland's independence battles with the bridges. Then there were all the "random" stones with mass graves belong marking those who died during the Great Hunger. The place was oddly peaceful and we wandered around and one of the few Irish monuments that didn't have a gift shop.
