This Is the Sleekest Hotel in Madrid - Hotels Above Par - Boutique Hotels & Travel

"Located steps from Puerta del Sol and Kilometer Zero in central Madrid, this five-star property offers a calm, design-forward refuge amid the city's historic landmarks. Designed by John Pawson and François Champsaur, the hotel pairs elegant, minimal interiors with intimate social spaces — a lively Lobby Bar with white U-shaped sofas, a pool table and back-lit wood bar, plus the Punch Room — while rooms feature neutral, luxe touches. Dining highlights include a Mexican restaurant by Enrique Olvera serving guacamole, ceviche and potato flautas alongside fish, pork and meat mains, and a rooftop restaurant helmed by Peruvian chef Diego Muñoz that serves tapas and family-style plates (papa rellena, ceviches) in a greenhouse-like setting with colored glass panels; cocktails and wines are curated by sommelier Julio Berluenga. The rooftop also contains the city's largest rooftop pool with panoramic views, 60 sunbeds and 10 cabanas, a lush terrace garden with a fireplace and a covered pergola — ideal for lounging or sipping cocktails — while a lower-ground entertainment venue, gym and spa (using Natura Bissé products) round out on-site amenities. Practical details include 200 guest rooms (177 rooms, 21 suites and 2 penthouses with ceiling windows and views of the Royal Palace, Almudena Cathedral and Gran Vía), complimentary breakfast for two with certain bookings, a range of booking perks (upgrade on arrival subject to availability, hotel credit, spa and shop discounts, early check-in/late check-out when available), and a typical starting nightly rate around $400; the closest airport is Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas (MAD)."

This is a granite and brass plaque in the Puerta del Sol area which marks the starting point of six national highways. It also lists the destinations of these highways. Difficult to photograph, particularly in tourist season but I did my best. All roads START from Madrid!

Go just to watch the crowds and stay for the fun!!! Great statue of the bear and strawberry tree, and if you look for it, the morif is depicted as mosaic in the sidewalks leading away from the plaza. Take a group shot at the medallion marking the geographic center of Spain, and the marker that all roads are measured from. We wondered why the roads were blocked off from traffic leading into the plaza and learned there was a rally. So we got to see folks coming together. This place is all about the activity. The feel radiates for several blocks in all directions and it takes some walking before you get to neighborhoods and a bit more mundane surroundings. Wowsers, lots of folks on vacay and locals, all sorts of activity and relaxation, every tchotchke imaginable depicting Spain, ham, pets, kids, football, and funny sayings. Tons of shops offering traditional Spanish jewelry, pottery, and trinkets. Go for the aromas and stay for the food and drinks. With a little sleuthing, the surrounding area is a treasure trove of alleys and old roads, shops, bars, eateries, bakeries, bread, chocolate, and desserts, so many delicious temptations.

If you ever wanted to stand at the literal center of Spain, Kilometre Zero in Madrid is the spot :) Located right in Puerta del Sol, it’s where all roads officially begin so technically, you’re starting your Spanish adventure on the right foot. Or the right tile, rather. There’s not much to “do” here besides standing, snapping a pic, and maybe dramatically pointing in all six directions but hey, it’s a quirky, must-see landmark that gives your map-loving heart a little thrill. Plus, it’s free and conveniently surrounded by shops, cafes, and street performers. A quick stop, a fun photo, and boom: you’ve officially arrived in Spain like a pro.

In Puerta del Sol, Madrid, a small stone slab reads, “Origen de las Carreteras Radiales,” or “Origin of the Radial Roads.” This slab, which is most easily identified by the groups of tourists surrounding it, marks the geographical center of Spain, the “kilómetro cero” point from which the radial network of Spanish roads are traditionally measured.

At the foot of the clock tower of the Presidencia de la Comunidad de Madrid lies Spain's zero point. From this "Kilómetro 0 de las carreteras radiales de España" (Eastern Carriageways), the distance of all (major or numbered) roads is measured. You could say you're standing at the "center" of the country here. It's also the common location of all the storylines in the 2000 Spanish film "Km. 0" by directors Yolanda García Serrano and Juan Luis Iborra.

Yelp
The exact center (or at least the cartographic center) of Spain, this small slab in Puerta del Sol is the starting point for Madrid's numbered streets and the measuring point for the country's six national roads, A-1 through A-6. Placed in 1950 and updated in 2002 and then again in 2009. The stone can be hard to miss, but you'll find it in front of the old Post Office building. [Review 12522 overall, 2312 of 2019.]
