Quirky retreats in the heart of the Canberra countryside - SilverKris

"A remote farm stay offering alpine-style eco-huts perched along a ridgeline within a large working sheep and cattle property, providing dramatic rural views, communal fire pits and hot tubs for soaking while taking in the surrounding landscape. The accommodation is pitched as an eco-conscious, immersive country escape and is available for reservations." - Jill Hogan

If you’re looking for a truly unforgettable escape, Kimo Estate Ecohuts are an absolute must. From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the beauty and tranquility of the property. Nestled atop hilltops with breathtaking panoramic views, the eco-luxury cabins—Sweeney’s Hut, JR’s Hut, and Fergo’s Hut—perfectly combine rustic charm with sustainable living, creating an atmosphere that feels both indulgent and connected to nature. Our stay felt like stepping into a world where every detail has been carefully considered. The huts are elegantly designed, incredibly comfortable, and seamlessly blend into the surrounding landscape. Waking up to the sunrise over the hills and enjoying the serenity of the estate was truly magical. For anyone seeking a retreat that embraces nature, sustainability, and absolute comfort, Kimo Estate Ecohuts are an unparalleled experience. We left feeling completely refreshed and already dreaming of our next visit!

Our stay at Kimo Estate’s Fergus Hut didn’t live up to expectations, especially for the price. $700 has expectations! There was very little value for money. For what we paid, you’d expect some basic comforts—like the fireplace and spa fire being lit on arrival—but neither were. Also, there was no clear or safe path from the hut to the spa outside, which made using it feel like an afterthought. The BBQ was so dirty we didn’t even consider using it. The breakfast “included” was extremely underwhelming—barely enough for one person, let alone two—and we had to call just to find out what it even consisted of. The welcome information was vague and unhelpful, and there was no useful guidance on how to make the most of the hut. Pre-arrival information would have been appreciated, especially knowing that no drinking water or even tissues were provided. Seating, 2 very uncomfortable chairs and nothing to enjoy the outside deck. Beautiful views, but overall the experience felt poorly thought out and not worth the cost.

Kimo Estate is one of those rare places that leaves a lasting impression on your heart. With roots dating back to the 1830s, it's one of the oldest properties in the Riverina region — and since opening its gates to guests in 2014, it has become one of Australia's premier rural accommodation experiences. Staying in the Echo Huts is truly unforgettable. This beautifully designed hut offers the perfect escape — complete with stunning views, peaceful serenity, and a front-row seat to the night sky. It's the ideal place to slow down, reconnect with nature, and soak in the beauty of the land. The Grain Shed wedding venue is absolutely breathtaking. Rustic yet refined, it's everything you could want in a country wedding setting. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and uniquely Australian — a picture-perfect backdrop for any love story. As a photographer, Kimo Estate is a dream location. Every direction offers a new perspective, a new story to tell. From golden hour light spilling over rolling hills to the architectural elegance of the huts and sheds — there is no shortage of inspiration here. To say you'll leave with something would be an understatement. Whether it's stunning photos, cherished memories, or just a sense of peace — Kimo Estate gives you more than you expect, every single time. Highly recommended! — Tumon AHSAN Photography

We stayed for a one night stopover on the way North. It was about 40 degrees in Gundagai, so Windies Cottage was extremely hot until the air conditioning units kicked in after a few hours. The cottage was definitely more rustic than the photos suggest - the floor was uneven and creaky, there were large gaps around the doors and we could see sunlight through the floor and tin roof in a few places. I didn’t sleep well as I was worried about snakes and spiders (we had to kill a huge spider shortly after we arrived). The setting was very pretty and the furnishings were lovely, we just weren’t prepared for how old and rustic the cottage was.

My partner and I stayed a night at Fergo's hut on Kimo Estate. It is a perfect stopover to break the journey between Melbourne and Sydney, or just even as a getaway. The log cabin is super comfortable, the tub outside perfect for soaking with a view of the farmland below. It is a glass cabin, but there is absolute privacy as there is no one around the area. |The bed faces east, so one is waking up to a gorgeous sunrise. The starry night view is also spectacular, although I would have loved to have a transparent roof so I could have enjoyed the stars from my bed! |We went on a hot day, and there wasnt much wind, which was a bummer for some part of the stay. We were a bit worried about keeping the doors open, as we were afraid there could be creepy crawlies nearby, but apart from a lizard and a couple of flies/ wasps, there was nothing to be worried about. |On the whole, we loved the experience, although in general, I would recommend coming here in the cooler months of spring / autumn.

What an experience. Not only did this exceed every single expectation but beyond that. Kimo’s JR hut (tiny home) is something you dream of. It would have to be the best place I’ve stayed in Australia with 360 degree views, it is the ultimate peaceful city escape. Thank you for having such and we can’t wait to return!

We had the most incredible stay at Kimo Estate! From the moment we arrived, we felt completely immersed in the beauty and tranquility of the surroundings. The eco huts are the perfect blend of luxury and simplicity, offering everything you need to disconnect from the busy world and reconnect with nature. The views are absolutely breathtaking, especially at night—stargazing from the outdoor bathtub is a magical experience that we’ll never forget. We’ve never seen so many stars in one sky! One of the highlights of our stay was the breakfast package. We loved starting our mornings with fresh eggs, bacon, and other local ingredients. Cooking up breakfast on the cooker outside while looking out over the rolling hills was the perfect way to ease into the day. It was so peaceful, and we felt truly relaxed and recharged. Kimo Estate is the ideal stop if you're looking to get off the grid and escape into nature. The surrounding scenery is just stunning, with endless hills, valleys, and wildlife all around. Whether you're soaking in the views from the hut or heading out for a walk around the property, every moment here is pure serenity. We can't recommend this place enough for anyone seeking a peaceful retreat with a touch of adventure. We'll definitely be back!
