An Aesthete’s Guide to the Algarve | Vogue

"Set against São Rafael Beach near Albufeira, this reimagined 149-room resort debuts with Nini Andrade’s signature interiors that marry whimsy and natural textures. Expect mix-and-match patterns, sculptural light fixtures, and sleek furniture—from a look-at-me green bar to slender modernist seats—woven into a playful medley that runs through the bedrooms, four restaurants and bars, and a nearly 20,000-square-foot spa." - Chadner Navarro

We spent the weekend at the hotel and are genuinely impressed. The grounds are spacious, beautifully designed, and well maintained, with direct access to the beach. The quality of the rooms, hotel facilities, and gym is top-notch. The outdoor pools are quite cold in early November (around 16–18°C), but there’s a well-heated indoor pool about 20 meters long—perfect for swimming. The staff are very friendly and attentive; we never experienced the long wait times mentioned in other reviews, though the hotel wasn’t fully booked. Breakfast was plentiful and left nothing to be desired. The gym is truly outstanding—excellent equipment, lots of space, and impeccably clean. We’d happily come back anytime. We paid around €160 per night including breakfast.

Excellent hotel. Beautiful location just off beach. Beautiful furnished and decorated. And maybe best thing, excellent service. Which is not that common in algarve and I know live here for 24 years. We choose also because dog friendly... Many places say... But here they are.. Can take dog anywhere and not looked upon. Spa also nice. Rooms very spacious all amenities there and excellent shower, airco etc.. Nothing to complain at all... Even the parking is OK at 5 euros per night... Instead of the ridiculous amounts they sometimes charge... So conclusion. Location great, hotel great, rooms great and overall service!

A Perfect Algarve Retreat My wife and I spent ten unforgettable days at the Kimpton Atlântico Algarve in early October, and it was nothing short of spectacular. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with genuine warmth and professionalism — the kind of attentive, seamless service that makes you feel both completely cared for and utterly at ease. Each morning began with what quickly became one of our favorite rituals: breakfast overlooking the gardens and cliffs. The spread was remarkable — from local pastries and fresh fruit to made-to-order omelettes that were always perfectly cooked. We especially loved the choice of seating: indoors for a relaxed start or out on the terrace to soak up the soft morning light and sea breeze. The gym deserves a special mention — well-equipped, spotless, and inviting, it made it easy to keep up our routines (or at least justify that second pastel de nata). What truly sets the Kimpton Atlântico Algarve apart, though, is its setting. Nestled quietly among the cliffs with expansive gardens that seem to merge into the horizon, it feels like a hidden sanctuary. There were days when we didn’t feel the need to leave the property at all — the serenity and beauty of the surroundings were enough to fill the soul. Whether you’re looking to explore the rugged beauty of the Algarve or simply unwind in peace, the Kimpton Atlântico Algarve offers the best of both worlds. Elegant without being pretentious, tranquil yet full of life — this is a hotel that truly understands the art of hospitality. We left refreshed, reconnected, and already planning our return.

Lovely hotel in a beautiful location but not quite 5 star. The A La Carte restaurant wasn’t open, we were told it was ‘seasonal’ which didn’t ring true. Website states 4 places to eat but this is not true, there is one restaurant. We spoke with reception and said they need to communicate the restaurant isn’t open. They told us the website is controlled by IHG not the hotel so they couldn’t do that.||The rooftop bar is fabulous but no drinks/food menus or prices anywhere, we had to ask. The tapas they offer should be advertised more as nobody seemed to know about it. All it needed was a QR code on the tables like they have around the pool area.||Water stations would be a good addition to the hotel. Only one in the gym area.||Breakfast is too expensive! €35 per person/per day is excessive. We got a taxi into town and back, had a lovely breakfast for two people for less!||Plus points - fabulous hotel, newly renovated, lovely pool area and spa. Our guest room was fantastic. Proximity to the beach which has a lovely snack bar for lunch. Social drinks at 6pm is a nice touch.||Overall we enjoyed our stay, but options were a little vague for food/drink which meant we had to find alternatives in the local area.

This hotel is incredibly beautiful. Very well decorated. The grounds of the hotel are so nice and beautiful too. The rooms are very spacious, clean. The staff are very attentive with a smile at all times. I honestly have no complaints or negatives share. Perhaps, the only “negative” is that during our stay the spa was not fully functional as they are working on it. I want to come back next year with my family.

This resort is beautiful. It was recently renovated and looks incredible. The staff were also lovely and made us feel very welcome. That said, we had two major issues: 1. Food – Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. We tried the restaurant one evening (the burger tasted oddly spiced, maybe with cinnamon) and ordered room service another night. Both meals felt more like canteen food than resort dining. For a resort of this caliber, we expected much better. We ended up eating off-site for the rest of our stay. Thankfully there are plenty of great restaurants nearby. 2. Heated pool – We chose this resort partly because it advertised a “heated pool,” which we thought would be ideal for late September in Portugal. In reality, the pools were freezing, closer to an ice plunge than anything usable. Hardly anyone was swimming, and when we asked about it, we were directed to the indoor pool, which was also uncomfortably cold. Overall, the resort has a lot of potential, but some important basics need to be addressed to truly match the beautiful setting.

We booked for 5 nights. Room was a king bed with garden view. Rooms are large which is very nice for a hotel. Beds and pillows comfortable. Free water in the room slippers dressing gowns towels at the pool. I cannot fault this hotel at all. Breakfast was delicious highly recommend having that as your package very good value for money. Pool was quiet with no obnoxious people. Lovely spa had a massage then you have 2 hours in the spa afterwards. ||Only negative as it was October can be cooler at night so the pool is very cold. Couldn’t go in it due to that. ||Away from party central with lovely restaurants in the area. Nice and quiet. ||Will be back as the other members of our party of 6 also said they would. (50+).

Our stay at the Kimpton Atlântico Algarve was nothing short of spectacular, truly defining what a five-star coastal escape should be. This property expertly blends refined style with the stunning natural beauty of the region, creating an experience we won't soon forget. Our accommodation offered a panoramic sea view that served as a daily masterpiece. Opening the curtains each morning to the endless blue horizon was an instant dose of tranquility. The design and comfort of the room made it feel like a private coastal sanctuary. The hotel’s crown jewel is undoubtedly the Zenite Rooftop. This space offers some of the most breathtaking views of the Algarve I have ever witnessed. We spent hours watching the landscape transition from the golden glow of sunrise to the dramatic colours of sunset, cocktail in hand. It’s a perfect setting for both romance and quiet reflection. For true relaxation, the wellness hub is a must. It is meticulously designed to be a peaceful retreat, offering excellent facilities and a serene atmosphere that perfectly complements a day spent by the ocean. From the incredible vistas at every turn to the dedicated, friendly service, the Kimpton Atlântico Algarve provides an unparalleled sense of calm and luxury. We look forward to returning.
