The Best Destination Spas in the US & Around the World: 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards

"This resort spa reopened in mid-2022 as a Kimpton replete with living green walls, a reverse osmosis water generation plant, and a new spa that makes the island of Roatán a wellness-seeker's haven: Honoring ancient Indigenous treatments like Pesh obsidian palm and stone rituals (which also utilize sea salt and algae), the Kao Kamasa spa brings Honduran history and culture into the serene, semi-outdoor treatment rooms. Full menus offer an array of treatments ranging from facials and massages to chakra-focused rituals, stone ceremonies for varying energy focuses, and body wraps that take exfoliation and skin rejuvenation to another level."

This Is the Perfect Adventure Itinerary for Roatán — With Scuba Diving, Waterfall Rappelling, and Even Some Relaxing Beach Time

"A half-hour taxi ride took me to the Kimpton Grand Roatán Resort & Spa, the island’s first big-brand hotel, which opened last year on a strip of golden sand at the southern tip. It’s an idyllic place to watch the sunset, perhaps from a driftwood swing chair at the waterside bar. I stayed in a Wellness suite with an sea-facing terrace above the Kao Kamasa Spa, which has four therapeutic plunge pools, a glass-bottom infinity pool, and treatment rooms within earshot of the surf." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Kimpton Grand Roatan Resort & Spa (Roatán, Honduras) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The Honduran island of Roatán is perhaps most famous for its proximity to the world’s second-largest barrier reef and the world-class snorkeling and diving that that implies. Kimpton Grand Roatán Resort & Spa applies the Kimpton brand’s decades of high-end boutique-hotel experience to this island idyll, with impressive results. Accommodations range widely across categories, from rooms and suites to bungalows and condos; the design is vibrant and modern and the comforts are plentiful. The indigenous-inspired Kao Kamasa Spa is a major attraction, as are the excursions, both on land and sea; the Kimpton signature social hour is a daily highlight." - Tablet Hotels

Wellness Week Kimpton Grand Roatan I just spent an amazing week at the annual Wellness Retreat hosted by the Kao Kamasa Spa in Roatan, Honduras. The spa, ranked 13th best in the world, is part of the stunning Kimpton Grand Roatan, now my favorite Kimpton —which tops a very big list of other loved Kimptons around the world. This was my third trip to the resort with its luxurious guest rooms, spectacular beach and pools, and great restaurants and bars. The activity-packed five-day retreat was amazing. I’ve been to other wellness events before, but nothing quite like this one. The Kimpton Kamasa offered fantastic yoga, strength training and other classes to work the core body. It also featured some fun and unique experiences like sound bath meditation, laughing yoga, natural medicine of Roatan, and breath hold meditation coupled with guided snorkeling in the clear azure Caribbean waters. After all that exercise the facial treatment at the beautiful spa and a healthy & delicious lunch lounging by the spa pool was a great way to relax & feel completely pampered. The top notch instructors and other staff created an environment that promoted the other very important part of well being - emotional wellness. The vibe the entire week was supportive and relaxed, and welcoming to all fitness levels. Being somewhat reclusive myself, I was surprised at how at home I felt, and I met some fantastic people who I think will become lifelong friends. I came home feeling better, physically and mentally, than I have in a very long time. I am already signed up for next year’s June retreat, and I highly recommend Wellness Week at the Kimpton Grand Roatan.

I almost don’t want to write this because this is my special place and I don’t want it over saturated with people. This hotel and island may be one of the most special places I’ve visited. I have traveled the world and this is a secret paradise. You can walk right off the beach and snorkel with the most gorgeous fish I’ve ever seen. I’m already booking my trip back next summer. Steven, Jimmy, Fabio the entire staff were next level. I would go back just to hang w them. I love this island and resort so much, it’s so special to my family.

I recently stayed here with my beautiful family for an entire week. The hotel is beautiful, the beach, the pool the entire grounds are amazing and stunning. I booked a room with 2 queen beds oceanfront a year in advance. As soon as I arrived to the hotel to check in one of the crew members told me that they upgraded my room to another room with only one king bed and the room has no sofa bed. I paid for 2 queen beds oceanfront for 4 people and ended sleeping for an entire week on a room that I never ask for and for a room that I never paid for. The room was beautiful with an amazing oceanfront but it was on the old building and I paid for a room on the new building that I never got to enjoy and they never email me prior to my arrival to tell me about this change. Even when I was there they never told me why they did that or why I never got what I paid for. This place can be beautiful a paradise but if they do not care about you was the point to even book here. Lack of communication, they never give me what I paid for and my girls were sleeping very uncomfortable and also my wife on a sofa that was not even a sofa bed for an entire week. This is very disappointed, they are very unprofessional and this place is nice but I will never stay here ever again. I don’t care about the beauty or how nice the place can be because I never got to enjoy the room that I pay for. I do not recommend this place to anyone looking to stay here. There is also other paradise hotels in the Caribbean that care about you and will give you what you paid for. And if you book here make sure a day or 2 before your arrival that you confirm that you will get what you paid for because they will not communicate with you ever so make sure so you do not go through a surprise like happened to me. But I will never stay here ever again. Very unprofessional staff.

Such a beautiful place. I would argue the nicest property on the nicest beach. The people there are tremendous. Steven made the trip even better. Thank you to him and I cannot wait to come back. As an aside, the food is really nice. And, if you wish to venture off property, there are many options quite close.

We booked this hotel months in advance, excited for a much-anticipated family vacation flying in all the way from Texas. Upon arrival, we were shocked and disappointed to be told that the hotel had overbooked and had no room for us, despite our confirmed reservation for a two-bedroom unit. There was no prior notice, no apology, and absolutely no accountability. What should have been a relaxing getaway turned into a stressful scramble to find alternate accommodations. The lack of professionalism was appalling—we requested to speak with a manager multiple times, but not once did anyone have the decency to show up or address the situation directly. It felt like they simply wanted us to disappear. This is a gorgeous resort, but it is terribly mismanaged. The experience was so unpleasant that it overshadowed everything we had looked forward to: the amenities, the food, the time with family and friends. Buyers beware: if you choose to book here, I strongly recommend calling a day before your arrival to confirm that your room still exists—because a confirmation email apparently means nothing. The rooms are wildly different. Our sons were in the main building and had gorgeous, modern rooms. We were in a cabana and the toilet had to be repaired three times. The food is good. Diving is NOT on site as the website says. Great service.

I have 4,000 hotel nights around the world at mostly 4- and 5-star. This is a solid hotel. Rooms clean and newer. We stayed in a bungalow for a value play. Next time I would do beachfront or stay in the main hotel. There is also another condo building and then a couple units above the spa. The location is fantastic. It gets 4 of 5 stars because the check-in process was horrendous. Two front desk personnel took 25 min with two customers. My check-in took 10 min. It is way more complicated than it needs to be. They need expertise to come in and modify process. The breakfast is 5/5. The lunch / dinner options leave something to be desired. Kristi’s is a great restaurant down the road 5 min. I would generally recommend going out for dinner outside the hotel and exploring the area. Spa is excellent and highly rated. Pool is slightly cloudy a little more than desired. Water is great and snorkeling right off beach. One eagle ray, a couple larger parrotfish, medium barracuda. No turtles, eels, etc. I hear better snorkeling northwest side where no traffic and use a dive shop. We rarely go back to the same destination, but we will do Honduras again. If you dive, you are in a great spot and you know that!
