Food:
The pork was tender and well-marinated, with every bite juicy and flavourful. The pickled vegetables balanced the richness perfectly and whetted my appetite. The sauce had just the right consistency, coating the meat beautifully so that each mouthful was a harmonious mix of savoury sauce and natural meat juices.
The tofu was especially impressive. It carried a gentle egg-like aroma and was packed with ingredients. The sauce was rich and umami-forward, drawing its depth from seafood such as fish, prawns and sotong. The addition of brown shiitake mushrooms, celery and capsicum contributed a natural sweetness that rounded off the dish wonderfully.
The steamed seabass was exceptionally fresh. I have tried the same dish at a popular restaurant in JB but it was not as good as this fish served in Kim's. The fish was naturally sweet, with flesh that was firm yet smooth. The soy sauce was not merely salty but carried a delicate hint of sweetness that elevated the dish.
The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The sauce reminded me of Thai flavours that had a blend of fish sauce and peanuts. The peanuts added a fragrant nuttiness, while the vegetables, resembling mango and peanuts, gave the dish a distinctly Thai-inspired character.
Service:
There was only one staff member managing everything such as taking orders, packing food, serving dishes, handling payment, clearing tables and preparing drinks. At first, she appeared rushed and slightly unfriendly. However, after speaking with her, it became clear that she was actually warm and patient, taking time to answer our questions despite her workload. After sending our order to the kitchen, she hurried off to attend to other customers and tidy the place, yet still made the effort to chat with us. Her service felt genuine and comfortable, especially given how busy she was.
Ambience:
The restaurant is comfortably air-conditioned, with spacious and clean seating. It has a traditional, homely atmosphere that makes diners feel at ease.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the food here. I used to come only for the prawn noodles and fried rice, but this visit has added several new dishes to my must-eat list at this restaurant. The food is so good that I am willing to spend time giving my review.
