Truly authentic Italian cuisine 👌👌Food is delicious and fresh with some signature uniqueness. All items that we ordered were super yummy. Indoor and outdoor seating arrangements are available. Has a bakery as well on one side. Fantastic experience. I recommend you reserve your table on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to avoid long waiting time. Most definitely a restaurant you don't want to miss while in Melbourne ⭐

Wasn't great, below average. Slow and arrogant service. Coffee not bad. Negroni watery with quick to melt small ice cubes. Overly deep fried squid with wilted mizuma .. rocket on menu. Did not finish squid @ $22 Wouldn't recommend coming here 2 stars for coffee Recommend going to Carlton Wine Room albeit no lunch service Tues - Thursday ... opens 4pm but midday other days

Great atmosphere a buzzing vibe. Workers are friendly . I suggest you book . We had coffee and cake one day sitting on the high stools which was really nice. Also had lunch on a other occasion. Food was lovely but they put too much salt on the food. That would be my only criticism. Well priced

NICE LOCATION AND AMBIENCE BUT LET DOWN BY FOOD King and Godfrey has been around for over a century and has evolved into a restaurant / deli / wine shop. Two of us went for lunch on a Saturday. We chose to sit al fresco on Lygon Street which gave us a good view of the passing parade of people in what is usually (pre-COVID) a bustling tourist precinct in Melbourne. The waiter was attentive and efficient but, sadly the food was not so good. One of us had a chicken dish that was still quite raw close to the bone. The other a bean dish that wasn't very good either. The side of french fries was barely warm. The grilled octopus entree was tasty however and the tuna salad OK. Coffees to finish off the meal were fine. Overall, not a good experience for just over $100. To top it off, paying for the meal at the end involved joining a long queue of people picking up takeaway food. People with mobility issues will be fine as it is all one one level with no steps to negotiate.

We walked in for a bit of prelunch today. Our coffees were okay, my flat white tasted of dregs a little. Food order was uncomplicated - a plain croissant and a porchetta panino. Coffees came through fast enough after the order and so did the croissant - we were asked if we'd like butter or jam and my partner happily asked for jam. Our porchetta panino rolled up, warm enough and smelt good, our waitress came around and apologised for the lateness in bringing the jam and mentioned there were a lot of things to do. Rightly so I guessed - it's lunchtime at a busy deli. And we waited - I took a bite of my sandwich and felt its really rude to eat while my partner waited so I waited. We waited. We waited. About 20 minutes later, with a flourish, we were handed our little cup of raspberry jam. Not too much attention was paid to two people trying to get attention in the intermediate time. Oh and the porchetta sandwich - it's good but go to a nearby espresso bar l, they do it better.

Scrumptious and mouth watering food. Great lighting and beautiful atmosphere. Good seatings all arounds. Wine cellars to view around the restaurant. The veal was juicy tender and crunchy. The shoestring fries are perfectly cooked. The orecchiette dish was bloody delicious but please give us a bigger portion please. Open kitchen as well; professional and transparent.

1⃣️Food: we found the fries to be the most delicious food among our dinner. just don't try the spaghetti if you have other choices! ( ended up hungry & have to find another resteraunt T_T) 2⃣️Drink: beer is good, but the cocktail we ordered neither looks appealing nor tastes good. coudnt even finish one small glass of that. 3⃣️Service: thanks for serving but we were unfortunately to have slow guys to serve us with seats and order. Maybe better to remind them so as to avoid being waitted to be seated, to have menus, to have ordersed foods. 4⃣️Location & decoration: very convenient place in lygon st, looks good with a large space.

A nice contrast to the offerings at Lygon street with huge restaurant / deli but would prefer a more personable service. Rather surprised that we were asked to order via QR code for a $$$ restaurant. Burrata was surprisingly very good, altho the presentation can def be better. Fresh perfectly grilled octopus but didn’t like something pickled which was served together Table outside was way too small and to be left with cutlery stand? We had to move them to the floor.

Yelp
King & Godfree is a food paradise. As far as Melbourne delis go, this has got to be one of the best. The shelves are lined with every artisan product imaginable. If you're preparing a special meal, you'll find everything from sauces and spices to sweets and specialty items. Speaking of sweets, if you've ever wanted to eat your body weight in Nutella - these guys can make that happen. There's also a bottle shop I here, with a great range of local and imported beers and wines - even a hidden cellar past I the iron gate. Deli wise, loads of cheese and meat options to pair with your meal or picnic basket goodies. They sell Port Melbourne's amazing Pure Pies here too, which is ordinarily worth crossing the river for - but unnecessary if you stop here. Ideal for: picnic baskets, party preparing, cooking up a storm, booze hounds.

Yelp
If you are into gourmet foods, great fresh produce and just plain and simple like to indulge on the finer things in life, then King & Godfree really is a treasure chest which you should delve inside. On the corner of Lygon Street and Faraday Street you cannot miss it. The store is massive as it opens up with a boatload of wine to choose from originating from countries all over the world. They also have an interesting range of different oils, biscuits, chocolates, and nuts. Think gourmet produce. One of my favourite aspects is the deli with plenty of cheeses, cured meats, and other fresh produce prime for sharing tapas style.

Yelp
Beautiful selection of pastries. We popped in for the Rosemary fries which were quite good. Good wine selection as well and nice window seats for people watching.

Yelp
King & Godfree stock the best of all the things that that make life worth living: wine, cheese, chocolate and cured meats. It's more than a deli - it's an institution that has been providing Melbournians with indulgence since 1884 (making it way older than my local Coles). It's a bit of a one-stop-picnic-shop, really. They stock both mainstream and boutique Australian wine and beers, plus European imports and spirits. If you don't know what you're after the staff are happy to give you advice - and keep your eye out for tastings times (often written on the blackboard out the front). Pick up some cheese and antipasto while you're there, and presto! You are ready to head to the park with a blanket or to a friend's for dinner. Admittedly K&G don't have the biggest range of wine in the Carlton area (if you're serious about European wines you may want to check Rathdowne Cellars down the road) but it's a shopping experience that can't be beaten. Sure, you'll spend more than you would at the supermarket, but you'll get a vastly superior product and service, while supporting an independent business that has been part of Melbourne for almost one and a half centuries.

Yelp
Ordered lasagne but it was terribly dry. No apology from crew except they will tell the kitchen. Overrated

Yelp
Walking into this place is overwhelming. There is just so much stuff that you wouldn't find at a normal grocery stores, it give to inspiration to cook something with their fancy ingredients. I'm not 100% sure of the origins of this store, but I'm going to take a solid punt its Italian. As soon as you walk in, the wall to the side of you is covered in varieties of different pastas-ones you would never ever see in your local grocery store. They've got a large deli counter that is devoted to only cheese, olives and salami. I didn't realize, but when you head further into the store, there is this whole giant back room that sells wine...so much wine! Like liquor store amounts of wine, most imported and fancy named and probably hard to find elsewhere. I found myself look at lovely collection of wines...that turned out to be olive oil. Who knew there were so many olive oil brands out there! I would definitely without a doubt, pay this store a visit if you were seeking a specialty ingredient (of Italian/European origins).

Yelp
Here you'll find a really good range of beers, ciders and wines from all around the world. And of course, there's just as much local and exotic teas and coffees. There's a deli in the front with a nice selection of cheese, cold meats and olives. They have an impressive range of fresh breads, and they stock various Italian products - chocolates, biscuits, cakes, jams and so on. You wouldn't guess it but there's even a little fridge full of Ben & Jerry's Ice cream. Yum. I often come here to pick up something special for a dinner party or picnic. I've often had a chat with one of the guys there about what imported beer would be best with a specific meal, or what wine would make the biggest impression. They're really quite helpful, and from the looks of things they get people asking them the same thing all the time. My little secret is to come here and pick up something special as a birthday gift for that difficult person you never know what to get them. A homemade Christmas hamper also goes down a treat.

Yelp
The rooftop has beautiful views of the city and there is an extensive drinks menu. However the food is another story. Sold out of most things on the menu at 2 in the afternoon, asked to come back later to order as the kitchen could keep up with demand. (Only half the tables were occupied). Then when the food comes that we were able to order arancini was still frozen, burger had no sauce and the fries were saltier than The Mediterranean itself. Atmosphere great, but food over all sub par. Sort the kitchen out!!!!

Yelp
This is another shop that would cause me trouble if I lived in Melbourne. King & Godfree has one of the best deli sections I've seen and then you step into the beer section and you could get lost amongst all the boutique beers. I've never seen so many strange and wonderful beers in one place. I could imagine stoping in and picking up some delicious deli goods and trying a new beer every week.

Yelp
Decadence is bliss. Thank you King and Godfree for offering the most amazing range of wine, chocolate and assorted deli goods. After recently visiting the Dal Zotto winery in the King Valley region (yes wanker I know) I have been trying to find stockists of their Prosecco and immediately thought of the fancy wine shop on Lygon street. Hurrah! Bottles and bottles of the Dal Zotto winery brand. Their range is niche and "curated" to really showcase the finest of regional Australian produce in the one store for us city slickers. Unfortunately my bank account and taste buds are at odds so I am unable to shop here as frequently as I would like. Its a nice store to browse and buy the occasional bottle of fancy wine that doesn't come from a super market.

Yelp
A Continental Delicatessen on steroids. This place is out there for a huge range of European goods and treats. from Cheeses, Smallgoods to biscuits and wines a great place to go. A sweet idea if you are stuck for gift ideas even.

Yelp
I love the selection of cheese, meats, wine and European chocolates and cookies. I had never heard of Persian fairy floss until I came here; BEST STUFF EVER .I feel that this place REALLY took off once they began stocking Ben and Jerry's Ice cream....exactly what we all need!!!!!
