I've had their sandwiches a couple time before, but this was the first time I've actually went into the store. The environment is great! The food was great, I had their special sweet bbq pulled pork sandwich, and it took a couple minutes before my food was ready, super fast! The staff was super friendly, and asked me about my meal and took my plate. Would definitely love to come back here and try some of their other dishes, too.

Google
First time trying this place after hearing good things for years. It's.......ok. The Reuben was good, but not $18.75 good. The potato salad was decent. The "famous pickle" was disappointing. It should honestly just be served with the sandwiches for free. The Generic Lager is exactly how it sounds....but if somebody orders a pint, let's fill the glass with beer not foam. Look....im still giving a 4 star review here, but in the end I spent about $35 on a sandwich, potato salad, 1 pickle, and 3/4 of a pint of beer....seems a bit much.

Google
We've used to be regulars here but don't go very often anymore. Prices are up quite a bit and they got rid of our favorite sandwiches. Portion sizes seem to be down so it doesn't feel like a good value for the money anymore. Buffalo chicken sandwich is tasty but gets soggy for takeout. Brisket is great when it doesn't have too much fat in it. Their potato salad is always delicious and worth going in for!

Google
Had the Reuben. It's not like any Reuben I've ever had before. But it's a 9.8/10 sandwich. Would HIGHLY recommend

Google
Delious every time. Wonderful location in the heart of the Exchange District. Quick friendly service. Their sandwiches are outstanding, their soups are fresh and delicious, and their cider in the winter is warming and soothing. Highly recommend picking up a pickle too - they're homemade and so delicious! Also, burger week was outstanding.

Google
Inconsistent. I have tried them a couple of times and the experience varies depending on who is working. I have had delicious sandwiches, I have had sandwiches that are inedible. I enjoy their spicy mustard, but a couple of times they put on so much, you couldn’t taste anything else and it was so overpowering you couldn’t eat it. I even called in to let them know, wasn’t even complaining, and I was blown off saying that’s that how they make them. Too bad, when it’s good, it’s great. But when it’s bad, it’s a complete waste of money.

I had the ham and cheese with the house pickle. I forgot how drippy these sandwiches are! Anyway the 'wich came with cucumber slices, so I didn't need the pickle, which was long and savoury without much of a vinegar taste. The ham stood out, as did the cheese. The cuke slices provided a good snap. The bun wasn't anything special taste-wise. For an $18.50 sandwich I wouldn't say it's a great deal, but it's competent and tasty. Get an extra napkin! Edit: I forgot to talk about the meat and cheese! The cheese was very creamy and smooth like a custard! And the ham was shredded and tasted vaguely smoky. Awesome.

Google
Sandwiches at the King & Bannatyne restaurant are really good and well-worth the visit. They also offer a number of sides (the potato salad is really good). The décor is really trendy but also comfortable (with interesting food, animal and butcher-related paintings). I like that they specialize in a handful of things and do them well. This place reminds me of Meat and Bread in Vancouver, BC, and I wonder whether this local business is inspired by businesses like those.

Yelp
+.5 for service Seriously, this place deserves your business. It's that good. Working in downtown I find myself frequenting the Exchange District for lunch. K+B is one of the places I often order take out from during COVID, and this past week I was able to dine in here for the first time. The River City Brisket has always been my staple order because it's that good. Normally for take-out I have it with potato salad, but last week I tried it with the jalapeno cheddar mac n cheese...which was really delicious! I do like the potato salad as well, and would choose that in warmer weather. It's a toss up between here and Miss Browns on who makes better brisket, but right now I give the edge to K+B. It's quite pricey for a sandwich at $15 ($11 if you don't include a side), but I found it worth it personally.

Yelp
Best brisket sandwich ever. Tasty drinks. You order at the bar and take a seat or wait and watch while they prepare fresh every sandwich

Yelp
I had a BLT King Bann sandwich with rhubarb mint peach tea that tasted like blueberry peach without any rhubarb flavor I could taste....but was still really yummy even if I couldn't taste the rhubarb mint in it. Make sure you say light on the ice because they tend to fill your glass to the top with ice and then your paying 4$ for a small portion of liquid. There's also no refills but they are very good at listening, and the next drink I ordered it with two pieces of ice and lots of tea! Yay! Lol. The sandwich's bacon is super tasty and soft. If you just eat the bacon first it kind of steals the show. So don't eat your bacon first! Eat it with the lettuce and the bread. Together it all is tasty. It just goes well all together.

Yelp
A staple for anyone working or living in the Exchange District. The sandwiches are anything but ordinary, each with a special following of devotees!

Yelp
Cool design. Exactly the kind of place I usually like. Original sandwiches. Young crowd. I ordered the vegetarian one with beets and feta cheese. It was ok. The white bun it was served on was really boring though. Flavorless. :( The girl at the counter was not smiling much. She didn't get tip and was probably wondering why. I usually tip when I get good service....

Yelp
Great place for lunch or dinner after seeing the Manitoba Museum or going to the Concert Hall! I was searching for a place for a late lunch early dinner after touring the museum and chose the King + Bannatyne based on Yelp and a locals recommendation. After reviewing the menu and narrowing my choices I asked which of my two choices had the most flavor and the counter server suggested the River City brisket sandwich with a side of coleslaw. I added a Nonsuch Pilsner (local brewery) to wash it all down. The brisket was so tender and had spicy (but not overly so), there was an 2-2.5 cm of meat on a freshly made wheat bread (so good and hot). The coleslaw was the chunky kind with red and green cabbage and nicely flavored sauce with a sprinkling of toasted oats. The beer was smooth and complemented the meal as well. Food and Beverages 4.5 Good fresh ingredients that are well prepared and presented. Even the side pickle (optional) was very good. Atmosphere 4 Trendy and comfortable with some exterior tables. Service 5 I the counter person was great, answering questions and making up the food I ordered. He checked in with me and gave suggestions on places for me to visit. Price 4 Good food and a fair price. OA 4.5

Yelp
This is a high-end sandwich shop near City Hall. Prices are somewhat high but the sandwiches are good. They use top notch ingredients, and they serve them on cutting boards. The sandwiches are a little messy once you start eating them; good thing they have lots of napkins. They make their own pickles. They're worth the $1 extra. You can get alcoholic drinks with your sandwich. Feels very trendy, hipster, but doesn't feel like that in a bad way. A nice place to hang out. Staff are surprisingly friendly. You feel welcome even as a first-timer.

Lexi S.

Yelp
The staff here are super accommodating and friendly, the brisket sandwich is amazing they have a complementing chickpea salad :) Be prepared for a $20 meal including drink but that sandwich and salad was both my lunch and dinner because they are generous with the portions. The inside of the shop is Modern and well decorated

Dwayne B.

Yelp
The food is always well presented and very tasty. They have rotating side dishes that are equally delicious as well. I've had soups as well as salads. They are always fresh and delicious! The breads are local bakery products and are delicious. The meats are well seasoned and slow roasted. They use local breweries and bottlers for their drinks. Totally #hipster and I love it! This place reminds me of #meatandbread but with a Winnipeg angle that is unique. I highly recommend coming out to this place for a delicious pre concert or game sandwich, or for lunch. 20 min in and out!

Sam R.

Yelp
Great service and beer! A little pricey but worth the money! Make sure you get a pickle with the sando!

Yelp
OMG....what an AMAH-ZHING place! I've been here twice and am in love with their sandwiches. I catch myself dreaming about their sandwiches whenever I am hungry. New sandwich shop that opened in Nov 2014 and is located at....surprise, "King + Bannatyne" in the Exchange. Cool space inside, communal tables in the middle and a long banquet on the side with about 6 separate tables. They claim to be the "first Sandwich Shop in Winnipeg dedicated to crafting Hand-Carved, Slow Roasted Meat Sandwiches." I would agree with that statement and it's damn good meat sandwiches. The menu is small and focused - 3 sandwiches: brisket $9, herbed porchetta $8 and meatball $8 with all the bread from the Lisbon Bakery. They also serve a grilled cheese sandwich that changes and there's a weekly meat sandwich special as well. Sides are $4 for salad or soup to add on. House made pickle or pickled egg is $1. I have to say the herbed porchetta looked so beautiful sitting there on the carving board that I had to order it. Fabulous flavour, nice mix of fat that somehow felt light against the lemon and herb mixture. I could eat this one everyday. The river city brisket is their most popular sandwich and for good reason - meat was tender and flavourful paired with a great mustard. This is a spectacular sandwich.....it actually brought me memories of eating at Schwartz's in Montreal. Unbelievably good, melt in your mouth carnivore goodness. Also tried their special - cola BBQ pulled pork with pineapple and jalapeno coleslaw for $8.50....excellent flavours, not spicy at all but has just notes of sweet and savoury. I can't do this justice but it was great. Didn't love the sides that I have tried here but whatever, I'm here for the sandwich. The sandwich itself is not necessarily enough on it's own for a meal - LOL, I could have eaten another half so 1 and a half sandwiches for me. Service was laid back and friendly. I can't believe how good their sandwiches were. Oh and they serve half pints beer here too.

Yelp
We were greeted by a nice man upon walking in. He was super friendly, answered all questions we had and provided info on their menu items. Great spot for something delicious! The interior is very modern while housed within/around an old building(s). The food is familiar but with a unique twist. For example, the BLT sounds familiar but their unique twist is, rather than using a tomato, they use tomato jam, which is pretty sweet. The sweetness is cut with mayonnaise and a fennel slaw. The bacon was perfect, just enough smoke and pepper, not too crispy but not soggy either, and there was plenty for the sandwich! Stop in if you're in the area...heck, you should make this a stop anyway. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Sweet sexy potato salad!!! This is another fantastic meal in Winnipeg. Their sandwiches are incredible, the potato salad is going to be my third wife, the staff are friendly and helpful, the turnaround time on orders is super quick... I don't know what else to say. If you're in their hood and you feel like a great lunch you'll be very happy you went to King + Bannatyne.

Heather S.

Yelp
Another winning meal in Winnipeg! This time a quick lunch but it was excellent and proves how far this is city has come as a foodie destination. The group I visited with each chose different sandwiches and all with superb. The brisket was moist but a bit fatty for my taste but delicious! The buffalo chicken was a huge hit and the special ham And cheese was a big winner. We all had the soup and it was spicy and extremely well seasoned. We will be back!

Etienne M.

Yelp
This sandwich shop is very underrated by my standards, has a good atmosphere with very good amount of seats so nobody who wants to stop won't feel as if there's no room. Not to mention they have some of the friendliest staff you could possibly meet, but not just that they also make a tremendous sandwich. I see tons of potential in this exchange district sandwich shop and it's a must-try.

Daphné G.

Yelp
My go to for lunch. Their sandwiches are delicious and you can see they are using good products. I highly recommend it.

Liv S.

Yelp
I visit Winnipeg twice and year and try to hit up aS many different and new spots as I can. Great little corner spot for a tasty sandwich. Hard to make a choice as so many delicious options plus a daily special to pick from. My sister for the BLT which was made with pork belly... OMG delicious. I got the portobello + provolone, which was tasty as well. I pick the BLT though if I had to pick between the two. Next visit is the brisket... Great vibe and simple modern decor. I will return.

Yelp
We popped in here for a late lunch today and had a delicious brisket sandwich. It is the most tender brisket I have ever had! The bread was nice and soft. The mustard was reminiscent of a German style mustard. The red birch soda was like a creamy root beer. I didn't have any sides, but they had some tasty sounding offerings available. The sandwich menu is not large, but based on the brisket alone I presume everything on there is delicious. I wish I had more time in Winnipeg to try some of their other offerings. I would certainly recommend this place to visitors and locals alike.

Yelp
I've been a huge fan of this place for a long time. Simple. Fast. Delicious. Staff is always great. Started using their Catering service which is the best I've used in the city. I catering for Lunch and Learns and my clients are always happy. Also, they just started serving breakfast sandwiches, which is perfect for before work. It's quick and always amazing! Well done!

Herman H.

Yelp
Dropped off my family and tried to find parking. Drove around 45 minutes while my family ate. Ended picking them up with my cold food and ate at home.Would not recommend just because of lack of parking!

Steven M.

Yelp
Great sandwich options. Great selection. Probably too 3 the tastiest sandwich in down town Winnipeg. Cozy atmosphere but enough room to bring the office down for a lunch. Great experience. Had a pulled pork option that was on special. Was served with some coleslaw. It was done right.

Al C.

Yelp
I had the brisket sandwich, it was simply delicious. the brisket tasted like medium rare prime ribs. the bread was so soft. very simply with mustard and it was so juicy , soft and delicious. I'm not a sandwich person but that brisket sandwich Def made me wanna go back again.

Rose H.

Yelp
Maybe it's because it was after 6:00, but the place was deserted not a single customer inside. Counter staff was clueless. The gorgeous Instagram pictures brought me there. Alas, nothing like that existed. It was either sold out (lobster roll) or the guy didn't know what I was talking about. He kept suggesting the Brisket. It was grisly and slimey The lobster chowder with farmers sausage was very tasty and I was wishing I'd had a bigger bowl. The lemonade was too tart. I really really wanted to like this place! Their insta page is nice.

Ashley K.

Yelp
Really flavourful, hand crafted sandwiches. Amazing pickles! Gorgeous building, with lots of wood and concrete, very trendy.

Russ D.

Yelp
Inconsistant, first time I went it was good. The next time I raved it to my co workers and we were let down. The brisket meat and bread were excellent the this day.. Horrendous house mustard destroyed it. Tasted like wasabi. Bring basic yellow mustard when you go there. Mac and cheese was tasteless wall filler.

Rebecca C.

Yelp
A smallish sandwich shop at the corner of King & Bannatyne. Nice when the name is your coordinates as there is no way to not find it. Very rustic industrial vibe with concrete and reclaimed wood. We stopped in mid afternoon well after the lunch rush and it was still pretty busy. That almost always promises a good experience. Fresh ingredients, amazing bread and a grilled cheese that is out of this world. Highly recommend this shop and while you are here check out the hood. The market and exchange area of Winnipeg is eclectic in shops, restaurants and architecture. One of the oldest sections of the city it is being refurbished, reclaimed and reborn. Great place to spend the afternoon and grab a nosh.

Jake L.

Yelp
Great spot. Got multiple items and was blown away by all of them. The brisket sandwich and the Ruben were insane. The employee in the shop was awesome. My new favorite spot to eat in Winnipeg.

Ivan B.

Yelp
One of my favourite spots to eat in any city, I feel lucky I don't have to travel to get my sandwich on. First timers MUST try the brisket - it's absolutely outstanding. I've also loved every weekly special I've tried, my favourite being the pork belly with Caesar slaw from a few weeks ago. The staff at this establishment deserve their own paragraph. Not only are they passionate about the products they serve, but they're very knowledgeable and excited to hear your feedback. They take their time creating your sandwich to order and ensuring its constructed properly; you won't get an all-mustard bite followed by a no-mustard bite in this sandwich shop. Thanks to Mike and the rest of the staff for their dedication to the art of eating.

Diana V.

Yelp
Was there today for lunch with a friend. We didn't have to wait long and there was plenty of seating, which was nice. The staff were also extremely friendly. I had the brisket sandwich and although the meat was super tender and cooked perfectly, it was completely bland and flavourless. No seasoning at all. All I could taste was the spiced mustard that was slathered on it and not much else. Disappointing.

Michael D.

Yelp
First time there, their system is confusing and lacking. They took a fast food self service approach but without the efficiency of a fast food restaurant. You're left with the worst aspects of each system. No service but not streamlined and efficient. Food was good but the prices reflects the restaurant's aesthetics and real estate location rather than the food itself. Conclusion: You pay for the environment.

John I.

Yelp
A quaint place in the middle of Winnipeg's exchange district, King & Bannatyne delivers just ok sandwiches. I tried their brisket of beef sandwich and found it dry. The meat was overcooked and lacked a natural moist finish. The bread didn't seem that unique to the restaurant. Good luck in Winnipeg!t

Don B.

Yelp
My first-time here. The Blt sandwich was made from the freshest of breads it was extremely tasty. The soup was flavorful but on the cold side. Nice cool little nook in the downtown

Gail P.

Yelp
The food is really nothing extraordinary. They definitely need to do something about the awful smell that wafts out of their building - especially on the Bannatyne side near the parkade entrance/exit. It's disgusting and would put anyone off its so bad you need to cover your nose walking by there. They should talk to KFC about how to make your restaurant smell so good

Phil G.

Yelp
The food is really creative, unique and fresh, however the flavors are very mediocre. Food seems over priced for what you get.

A I.

Yelp
I had the River City Brisket, pickles, and coke. The sandwich was delicious. I read reviews that you have to get the pickles, but it was just normal, nothing special. They are pricy on what you get. The sandwich is $9, normal size, and that's all you get. Everything you need to pay. Overall it's a good place, based on their sandwich.

Luis V.

Yelp
First time eating here and glad I did. Service was quick and friendly. Had the herb porchetta and was delicious but wish there some extra condiments like hot sauce to name one that would go great with this sandwich. The sides weren't much to speak of, but delicious pickles, definitely will return.

Jennifer D.

Yelp
I had high hopes based on the other reviews but my sandwich was disappointing. They were out of my first two choices so I went with the brisket. There was more inedible fat than meat and the bread was as dry and tough as the meat. The mustard was amazing but that wasn't enough to save the sandwich. My partner enjoyed his portobello sandwich, so if that's your thing go for that but avoid the brisket.
