Yelp
Barrow has a limited number of motels from which to choose. I have stayed at all three. The worst one by far is King Eider Inn. The one star rating is for its location, it's right across from the airlines. Other than that, it hasn't much else to offer.
There is a sign that requests guests remove their shoes and there are flimsy paper sandals offered. I don't know why. There is nothing remarkable about the lobby nor rooms. Unless you find the bird head chessboard minus one piece interesting, or the rocking chair that doesn't rock, or the fire place that never has a fire inviting, don't expect much. The staff is....well they'll reserve a room and give you an invoice.
We had three adults and an infant in our party. We had to ask for an extra towel both nights. There is one small bottle of shampoo. No hair dryer.
The head boards have a large gap which swallows your pillow during the night. And folks, the "other guests have the extra pillows." So, you are just out of luck.
There is a sauna. However, there's no time limit. And apparently only one room of guests can use it at a time ( although the front desk clerk said it accommodates six people). The "other guests had the key " for nearly 3 hours. I would've thought the owners might be concerned. I wonder now if they even have a sauna. I could never get a key.
The vending machine is mostly empty except for a few ancient bags of corn nuts. There was one of those 5 gallon plastic water dispensers, which was empty. And had it been full, your drink would be room temperature. There was a 'seen better days' hot water dispenser/ coffee machine where guests could make a hot beverage and drink it from a styrofoam cup.
The beds were left unmade because " there were baby things on one of the beds". The 'baby thing' was a rolled towel placed at the edge to prevent the infant from falling out. There was nothing on the other bed.
So, basically. Stop at the front desk. Pay your nearly $200/ night. And expect NOTHING.
