King Fern Cottage

This place was one of my favourite travel experiences anywhere in the world. ||Beautiful setting, great rooms, top shelf food and the owner and staff are incredible. They can’t do enough for you and have the warmest smiles.||The highlight tho was the music show downstairs after dinner. The owner is a brilliant muso, and he and his band were super impressive. ||It all made for a memorable experience that we’ll be raving about for years.||If you like creativity and unique experiences check this place out.

King Cottage is truly a gem in this town. Lal, the host, made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. He was incredibly helpful and one of the friendliest people you'll meet. As soon as you step into the guesthouse, you can sense the owner’s creative touch—he's a singer, and it shows. The dining room offers a breathtaking view of the golf course. The food is delicious, and the room is cozy with a warm shower and comfortable blankets. We also had a great time playing some pool with the chef. The overall atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. Highly recommended!

Loved this place. The venue is unique, rainforest style. The owner is an incredible musician (think Sri Lankan Bob Marley!) and has set up an event space out the back where his band puts on a reggae gig each night (lights, smoke machine, pumping speakers etc.). It’s a vibe!||Food was incredible. Had the Chicken Kottu for dinner and curry and rice for lunch.||We used their Tuk Tuk driver to get to and from the train, as well as to take us to Horton’s Plains for the Worlds End walk. Left early and stopped in the perfect spot to watch the sunrise on the way. ||The staff here were so helpful and eager to please. Highly recommend, especially if you are after something a little unique to add a story to your holiday!

The owner welcomed us into his amazing restaurant which has beautiful views and even more beautiful food. I had a potato curry which was the best I have had so far. We sat by the cosy fire while reggae music played. There was an American pool table which you could play and live music. The building itself was stunning and it was impressive to learn that he build it himself. I would highly recommend staying here or even popping into the restaurant if you are in Nuwara Eliya!!

Loved this unique place! The food was excellent. We had the Chicken Kattu - delicious! After dinner, the owner puts on a music gig down in the event space (it’s set up for bands, with lights, smoke machine and all the bits). He’s a reggae style musician and loves performing to anyone who wants to come for the vibes. And vibes there were! Warm fire in the dining area. Comfy beds. Short walk to town.

I must say, this is one of the friendliest and nicest cottages in Nuwara Eliya. The staff was very friendly. The vibes and cottage's unique structures and music are very good. the food was delicious and the prices were reasonable. they have their own music band i think it is reggae . there is no any loud noices or anything If one wants to come to Nuwara Eliya to relax, this is the place you must choose. They contacted us until we got home. Highly recommended

We came for the food which was excellent 10/10. All the staff couldn’t be more helpful, the space is beautiful and even more impressive once you learn nishantha (owner) built it all himself. If you are a fan of pool they have a great American pool table. Would highly recommend.

Cannot recommend highly enough. We stumbled upon King Fern by chance and we were so happy that we did..The location is amazing- a simple 3-5minute walk to the centre of Nuwara Eliya..We were immediately made to feel at home. The space is unique and serene. Amazing views across the St Andrew’s golf course and surrounding bush land. Nothing was too much trouble for our kind hosts- we were offered dinner which was one of the highlights of our trip to Sri Lanka. The food was delicious and extremely well priced. Nisantha (hope the spelling is ok) who owns King Fern is now my brother. A peace loving, kind soul with such a wonderful outlook on the world..He and all his staff are the friendliest, caring and honest people you could imagine. Dinner was served and the band were practising so we had the pleasure of joining them, singing and laughing into the night..It was a night I will never forget..The next day as we had to leave they arranged a tuk-tuk driver who took us exactly to the bus we needed to return to Tangalle..There are big plans for King Fern- a new area for music and concerts is being built. I cannot wait to return to see it all come together. Blessings to you all my friends at King Fern.
