From New Cruise Ships to Adventurous Itineraries, There’s More to Come for Cruising in 2022

"One of the most luxurious expedition ships will debut this year when Silversea Cruises' Silver Endeavour launches its first polar season in November. The boutique ship holds just 200 passengers and is set to undertake 12 voyages to Antarctica from November 21, 2022. The voyages will range from five to 20 days long, and include a new 10-day Antarctic Peninsula voyage, as well as several of Silversea's Antarctic Bridge Fly-Cruise sailings—which enables passengers to skip the often-tumultuous Drake Passage and fly directly to King George Island to embark the ship. The ship itself, which was recently acquired from now-defunct line Crystal Cruises and was slightly altered by Silversea, has opulent design features and offers some of the most spacious accommodations in expedition cruising. Among the most lavish suites are the 1,868-square-foot Owner's Suite and the 1,668-square-foot Grand Suite. But no matter the accommodation, guests are sure to have personalized attention, as the passenger-to-crew ratio is 1:1. Silver Endeavour also has industry-leading expert-to-guest and Zodiac boat-to-guest ratios, ensuring that every passenger will have easy access to heart-pounding excursions and get up close to marine life like penguins, seals, and other bird species."

One of my greatest dreams/accomplishments in life was to experience sleeping on all 7 continents. This trip made it come true. As you know Antarctica is not an easy place to get to. It’s on the bottom of the earth and the weather is very unpredictable. There’s a few ways you can cross you could go from New Zealand/Australia,The bottom tip of Africa or The bottom tip of South America. When I did my research it was cheaper to go through the South American Way. The water passageway is called the Drake sound. It’s a very rough ocean. it could have 30 to 40 foot swells and it takes 48 hours to go one way If you’re going by boat. That sounded absolutely miserable so doing my research I found a airline called dap. They work with local travel agents in the Patagonia area for flights that go into Antarctica. It’s a very expensive price but you’ll get there in two hours. You can’t just fly on the day and time you want to. You have to wait for the wind factor to be safe to fly. So I booked a room in Chile for a few days until we had the OK to safely fly in. I picked an option to sleep in a tent on a glacier. Instead they made me sleep in an army base. It’s a different world. there’s no trees, there’s no grass , there’s no pigeons , there’s only a handful of animals that handle the extreme arctic weather. Moss is the only plant that could grow and handle these extreme conditions. Remember most important, when you go to any Arctic region. Do not let cotton be the base layer on your skin,Head, chest, legs and feet. It has to be some type of synthetic, polyester or wool. Cotton will keep your skin cold when you sweat. the other fabrics will regulate your body temperature to keep you warm. Also you have to dress in layers to make a barrier against the cold winds as well.

Although I did not step foot aground, it is an unbelievable place to visit by cruiseline. The scenery, as shown on the pictures, is breathtaking. A trip once in a lifetime
