I came here for the first time because I was looking for a good conditioned NJS frame. They have other neat frame sets for fixed/track builds and other parts you need depending on your budget. I found the one I wanted and pickup up some parts. Rides beautifully, and the 2 dudes there are very helpful, especially the types of parts and measurements you need to find the right frameset that best fits you. Would strongly recommend if you are looking for nice fixed/track parts and framesets for you bike project. They can also make a custom wheelset if needed.

Helped us change a flat, turning a rough day into a great one. I'm more of an occasional bicyclist, and sometimes feel out of place in bike shops. Not here. They were incredibly welcoming, friendly, and quick. I really got the feeling that they were on our side, rallying for us to have the best day possible. When a shop gives you that feeling, it's more than a shop -- it's community. Thank you King Kog!

Had to take my Ebike here since my regular mechanic is out of town but WOW! Outstanding service and great prices. I had an accident and needed a quick emergency repair. They handled it in less than 12 hours and the mechanic was very professional and kind. Really excellent shop I highly recommend!

Great service. I came in for a chain replacement and they found a few other issues with my brakes and derailleurs that would have made for a really tricky ride out of there. They turned it back to me after about 15 minutes, so super speedy service, and my pretty worse-for-the-wear bike was good to go, and I think they gave me a really good price for the work. Very happy with this crew! I will be coming back here for all my cycling needs.

Badass little local bike shop! Brought my cargo bike in after I made a mess of the rear derailleur trying to tune it myself. Devin & Tim sorted me out with a proper adjustment while I waited - and even worked out the trick to getting it right - low cable tension! Exactly what you need in a local shop. $20 bucks and less than an hour - rather than $100 and a week at all the fancy shops...

I bought my boyfriend a bike for his birthday and accidentally got one bike frame size too big. The shop was so helpful and understanding and was able to swap out the bike frame once they got the shipment in. Great service, super knowledgeable staff - definitely recommend!

Had a bad repair experience. Debated not writing a review, I like to support local bike shops, but this was pretty over the top. I went in because my chain was slipping on my single speed, was just going to ask the mechanic to pull the wheel back to tighten up the chain, but he told me I needed a new chain. So I figured, why not, just throw a new chain on there. When I got the bike back the wheel wouldn't even turn because it was off center, tire was hitting the frame. The mechanic tried to tell me it was my bike's fault. I agree that it's not a great bike, but the wheel turned fine when I gave it to him. It might have been a little out of true, but not THAT bad. So I argued with him and he finally, reluctantly, adjusted the wheel so it would at least turn. Then I noticed the brakes were rubbing on the tire instead of the rim. Well, obviously that was my bike's fault, too, and he refused to do anything more. I suggested that maybe the chain was too long, but he told me he was trying to be "generous" by giving me a long chain. Anyway, of course I got a flat because the brakes wore through the tire. It was an old tire, that wasn't their fault, and probably the previous owner had the brakes rubbing the tire, too, but it hadn't worn out yet when I brought it in to them. Anyway, I bought a new tire, put it on myself, shortened the chain myself, and now it's working great. But the service was surly and condescending, and the repair was indisputably lazy and incompetent. I enjoy learning about bikes, so it's a learning experience and now I know how to change and shorten a chain. But being treated like that, argued with and told stuff was my fault, really made me feel crappy. Wish I had the guy's name, but hopefully they'll figure it out.

So so happy I stopped by this place. A friend had a flat tire so we went by here to fix it on a Sunday afternoon. My other friend also had their bike in here for a tune up before a gran fondo so they wanted to check it out. I was just minding my business but something told me to come in and look at the frames. I bought a cannondale last minute to do a triathlon because my vintage bike was too heavy and damaged to use. The cannondale was okay but not the one I wanted in the long run. The frame was aluminum and the lady sold it to me stating it was carbon fiber :/ it's okay, I broke even when I resold that. Then I saw the bianchi... and it was carbon fiber and my size. It was the bike that I have always wanted and they said they could swap out the cannondale parts and do it before my race on Saturday It was either that or order parts and maybe take a few weeks to come in. I decided to swap the parts and do a slow upgrade later on if needed. Service was nice, reliable and kept me up to date since I was out of a bike for a week and needed to make sure it would be ready before Saturday rolled around. Thanks for building my dream bike!! :) I can't wait to order some parts and make it perfect.

Warning do not go to the shop. Worst shop ever I took my bike in there to get my petals fixed and they messed up my seat when the guy put the bike on the rack when I took the bike in my seat was fine. They then tried to tell me that it was my fault and my seat was wobbly. So therefore I have no bike seat because the part that was inside the bike they broke an African-American gentleman who works there, then proceeded to tell me I don't want it, which means in a threatening manner. I don't want any problems. He then proceeded to talk and make comments In aggressive matter. The shop owner was also present help also so now I was stuck to go home with a broken bike. Please stay away from the shop. The vibe is just not there as soon as I walked in and something seemed off I should have known better I took my bike in to get fixed, not broken.

Great shop! I came in shopping for a new bike expecting I'd get stuck in analysis paralysis but the folks made it so easy to make a decision within 20 min. They also installed the lock (which they told me all I needed to know about the anti-theft protection program the lock provides) and kick stand I picked out. I'm also giving 5 stars for how friendly and down to earth the folks here were. I didn't feel upsold or pressured into anything. They really went above and beyond to make me feel welcomed and taken care of--which is the biggest deal for me to want to return. Bought some tires too and I intend to come back for future purchases! Thanks y'all.

I'm a regular customer here and have spent a fair amount of money on repairs etc. The service thus far has been very good, with quick response time and value for money. Today the customer service left wanting. I asked to have the bike tires filled and offered to pay for it if needed. The young guy servicing the bike was very helpful and friendly but his douchebag of a coworker made a joke about receiving free service (we got scammed) as I was leaving. He obviously thought it was funny enough to say out loud. Me not so much and also uncalled for since I offered to pay. I called him on that and the last thing I heard him say as I left was, Can't take joke? I could not at that particular time and I think you could have zipped it at point instead of pissing off a customer.

Great service and super down to earth employees. The workers were amazing and very nice and helpful. The prices are very reasonable and fair. They fixed my bike and made my day thank you king kog!!!!

There's actually a number of Bike Shops downtown: Uptown BART Bike Station, Archer Bicycle, King Kog, and Lucky Duck. Given the bike friendly nature of Oakland, this does make sense, but also makes you consider where you take your business. Historically I hit up Uptown BART Bike Station as it's the closest to me and they are stable. But they aren't open Sunday. Most aren't. So what happens when you're on 14th and Broadway and your tire pops on a Sunday? You quickly Google your options and discover King Kog. I feel all 4 of the downtown bike shops can be described as cramped. Small spaces utilizing every foot of ground, wall, and ceiling space. New and refurbished bikes, parts, and gear on display, and a work station in the back. King Kog is no exception as you make your way through the sole lane past various bikes to the counter. As it turns out, I wasn't looking at just the popped tire - my back tire had reached its limit as well. Not bad for two years of usage. Given all the glass in EVERY bike lane in Oakland, having regular tires doesn't cut it (my front tire had popped 4 times over the summer) so I made sure to get Gatorskins. I was fortunate they had them, and they are pricier than regular tires but well worth it. So new tube, new gatorskin, and work ended up being $90. Not exactly what I wanted to spend on a cheap Sunday, but when its your ride and you're already blocks from home, not much you can do. I was helped and my bike was fixed immediately, took maybe 15 minutes total. I also got to ask about possibly setting up a cargo rack in the back, got a recommendation for banh mi, and told them about some fried chicken and cheap lunch spots downtown. All in all, I was happy with the experience and was able to ride out to lunch.

Great little shop. Friendly and helpful. Niche but in the right kind of way. Needed some pedal straps and figured I'd check them out. They had a good selection and I found what I needed. They also have tons of great looking bikes and parts.

I got my Engine 11 assembled with them. I hardly knew anything on them but I knew they would be pretty good just cuz they are the only place near me that specialize in fixed gear bikes. They have a lot of unique bike parts. I bought some from them and the rest online. My project bike came out pretty good

Got some minor parts for my bike pump and a kickstand to install on my bike. Staff was helpful, knew their shit, and helped me with what I needed.

Mean and sexist! First I visited the shop with my male partner and the dude at the front told me he would charge me $10 to install each tire. When I went back a week later as a solo female, the price went up to $13. As noted in other reviews, the staff are rude to their customers. This is especially true if you're a woman. Side note: one of the people who was hanging out in the back and schmoozing with the male customer also got caught stealing beer from a nearby corner store. Don't shop here.

Great staff here, a real neighborhood bike shop feel. They have some cool shirts and parts and they can fix your bikes. I bought some handlebar grips here, a shirt and got a wheel built. Did I mention how I love the staff? Great store. 5 strong stars.

I had to take in my eBike (Aventon Pace 500) after 6 weeks of purchasing it because I botched it up (word of advice, don't assemble a bike if you don't know what you're doing. It's dangerous). King Kog only handles mechanics, but there was no electrical work to be done. I worked with Alexi. He assessed and gave me a quote that to me was fair (and ultimately came a little under). He restored my bike to dream condition and took every step to make sure the mistakes I made were corrected and that my bike was extra safe (it can go up to 28 mph, so safety needs to be forefront). The shop is very busy, so expect days between drop off and pick up. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Best of all, they were very nice and understanding without judging me on my lack of assembly skill (can't say that about another shop I took it to). This is where I'm going to my bike for future check ups, upgrades and tune up/repair. I'm about to purchase a second eBike for my husband, so this is the first place I'd take it for assembly.

Ive been going to a-lot of different shops in the Bay Area for years now.....and theres always some issue......not here. These people know bikes. They have a cool shop that has a community feel to it. They host weekly rides and have a good reputation in the bike community. If you want a cool shop run by cool folks this is the place.

I wanted to like this place because they're in the neighborhood and I try to support local businesses, but am so dissatisfied with my experience. I was struggling to install one of my clipless pedals on my bike, so I brought it into the shop for help. I mentioned my tires experiencing a little bit of loss of pressure too and wondered if anything was wrong with them (they were basically new tubes). I got charged $70 for them to "tune up" my $1.5k+ bike that was basically brand new & fix the pedal. When I got my bike back, the guy told me my "derailleur was off" and he fixed that for me. After one ride, my gears were shifting worse than before and my brakes developed a squeak when going down hills. It also still lost a little bit of pressure after rides. When I bought my bike back in, there were different people working. They said losing pressure was normal but they'd look at my squeaking brakes and gears. If losing pressure is normal, why did the first guy charge me $15 per tire to see if any "staples" or whatever got into my tires? That's when I started to feel ripped off. The second group of people said they did a list of items to my bike to fix it. After 2 visits and $70 later, my bike rides worst than when I brought it in originally. I regret ever bringing my bike here - brakes still squeak and gears shift horribly. I hate to write negative reviews that can impact local businesses, but now that I've talked to other bike shops, this place is overpriced and if you don't know a ton about bikes, they'll likely rip you off like they did me.

Hands down my favorite shop for anything bike related, the folks there are super cool and humble, lots of cool folks hangs out or start group rides at this shop. Shops like this reminds me of actual hobby shops a decade ago. If they don't have the part you are looking for they will order it for you!

Walked in 30 mins before closing and repair guy was busy. He still took the time to help me out and replace my tires and show me some new pedals. Work was quick and got out the door without feeling like I was rushed. Much appreciated! Main drawback is that accessory selection was limited.

Never going back to this place again. Went in to just replace 2 spokes and ended up dropping 120 for a new rim. When the dude called me he said and I quote: "got good news and bad news for you. Gotcha! Just got bad news for you hahaha" Apparently my rim was gonna keep breaking spokes if i didn't replace my rear rim. My original rim was a carbon fiber rim. Looked online and it's actually very simple to replace spokes but I'm sure they knew that. Their come up, my lost. When I went to pick up my bike, one of the dudes there notice my fork was shakey which I knew the ball barring needed to be replaced but couldn't afford another expensive repair, which I tried to explain but dude kept "investigating". All the ball barring spill on the ground. You all work on bike all day and I'm sure you knew that was gonna happen. "Oh you can't ride this out without replacing this part". I do UberEats and I'm already losing money not working and had to borrow the funds to get that rim replaced. I told them they literally took every penny from me and cant afford to replace a 40 dollar part. "Well since you dropped 120 and we did kind of take your bike apart we can replace this part. "Normally its a 40 dollar part but we took this one off another bike we repair and is some what new". I had to keep emphasizing that couldn't pay for the part and dude said "send your friends". Wow....just wow. That ain't even the icing on the cake. I bike off and start doing a deliver and pop! Flat tire. I have a patch kit and discovered whoever put my inner tube folded part of the tube to get it in causing the pinch. Plus the "new rim" needs to be trued...already. Super unprofessional and clearly after money and not building a relationship with their customers. Only went there to help support a local shop but this is a local shop I will not be supporting again. "Send your friends" No thank you

Finally I found a Bianchi dealer in the East Bay!!! If I add "Bianchi" a hundred times to this review will it show up when someone else searches for Bianchi? I got hit by a car and the local bike shop was not much help in assessing the safety of my bike. First Sean on the phone was super helpful and friendly. Then when I came by on a weekend one of the co workers, Jason, was super slammed. Despite that he measured my frame and got me riding some replacements while he did his thing. Highly recommend if you're looking to get a new bianchi, others were getting tune ups and Jason fixed them too. A+!

I am pretty new to maintaining a bicycle and have hit a few hurdles on the way. Honestly, I am intimidated by bicycle stores in general.The employees have all been really friendly, knowledgeable, kind, and helpful. I came in before close (at around 5:40PM) and they delivered outstanding and prompt service. I had a flat tire and they swiftly changed it out. As soon as I left, my bicycle felt as good as new. All three employees were phenomenal but I want to give a special shout out to the person with the long hair and the beard. I appreciate you!

I shipped my bike from Austin to Oakland and back, via Bike Flights and this shop in Oakland. Before the trip, I called this shop ahead of time explaining what I hoped to do: shipping my bike to and from the cities via Bike Flights, shipping by a certain time frame per the vacation I was taking. I asked for a quote and confirmation that it was possible. During the phone call, weeks before the trip, I was quoted at $85. They confirmed: it was possible to receive the bike and have it built by a certain date, that they would use the same box and ship the bike back to Austin by the date specified. All was somewhat decent on the way into Oakland - bike was ready by the date for pick up, I paid the $85. The cost to build the bike was quoted at the price for a full bike tune up. Part of my reasoning for shipping to a shop was to have my bike in tip top shape. But once I was riding my bike after pickup, I realized my handle bars were crooked, the front disk breaks were rubbing and squealing, and the bike was somewhat dirty. Not great, especially after paying for a "full tune up" but I fixed it myself and the bike functioned for the trip. Dropping my bike off to have it shipped back to Austin was a nightmare. They were confused by the request as soon as I had arrived and explained what I was doing. Not that trivial, but it seemed like a big deal for them. I instantly called out that I prearranged this with them, but nonetheless they seemed to not have saved a box for shipping, and they couldn't have the bike ready for shipping by the date specified - it would have to be picked up 5 days later. I called Bike Flights in the shop to change the pickup date and luckily it was fine to change the date. The shop then said it would be another $85 - something I was NOT quoted at during the initial phone call. I understand labor and time costs money, but $170 roundtrip to put together and take apart a bike is very steep. I'm not about to argue for labor face-to-face with the shop staff, this is their time and money, but it should not cost this much for this labor and it was extremely frustrating that I was not quoted correctly in the first place. As this seemed to be the shop's price and there was no budging, I wasn't going to argue. I voiced that it was frustrating to have asked weeks ahead of time if it was possible and what the price would be - both which were now not recognized. Throughout the entire exchange the woman and man that were working were extremely condescending - it was a case of: girl walks into shop, shop thinks girl doesn't know anything about cycling, shop makes girl feel confused about request as if she doesn't know what she's talking about. After I paid the cost and finalized the request, the man working responded to my concern of the price by saying "well do you want to ride the bike around the block one last time?". So. Condescending. I replied saying "no I'm good, I did a hard ride yesterday" (70 miles and 5K feet of climbing the day before, after 6 days full of riding). Cycling is life for me, my joy and community, but sometimes I just cannot handle the sexism of this sport. If I was a man, I find it very hard to believe the mechanic would say the same thing. Overall a very disappointing experience. Did not feel any cycling community love nor support. Did not uphold the original quote nor dates requested. Did not build and tune the bike that well. Very condescending. Such a shame.

Shopping for a bike during this pandemic ended in an awesome way thanks to Karthic and Shawn! I couldn't find a single shop in the Bay with a 54 frame/medium frame. I've been looking for six months. Everything is back ordered. I walked past this tiny shop that I hadn't realized was there. Noticed mixed reviews but also know folks are short on patience right now and everything is hard. Called first and got a prompt response even though it was close to closing. Was able to go by the shop and was able to social distance test ride 2 bikes in my price range. 1 was the magic ride that came home with me the next day. Both Karthic and Shawn answered all my questions, didn't talk down to me, and didn't try to up sell me or pressure me into a sale. They made a few adjustments for me quickly and adeptly and added some basic additions for me (lights, water bottle cage, bell, etc.) I got to see both staff interact with other people they were kind, efficient and knowledgeable with each of them. They didn't over charge in any of those interactions. They both wore masks and had sanitizer etc. and customers were required to as well. Thanks King Kog! Don't forget to show some love in the tip jar when you go!

Jason I was very happy with their professional service. .Sean (the owner) gave me great discounts on the items that I purchased. .Tim (repair man) did a great job replacing my Chainring (main gear cog), the Chain, adjusting the Brake Levers and installing a Monkey Light system on my front wheel. .Jason gave me great advice on how to maintain my bicycle in good working order. I recommend King Kog for all your bicycle needs!

Bought two bikes in the past two months and I took it here. These guys are very helpful and friendly. I would recommend them anytime. They also have a lot of bike accessories to choose from. Help support this amazing local bike store!

King Kog was a great overall experience. I got a fixed gear Bianchi that looks and runs great. The first time I went there the bike caught my eye, but I was still making my rounds at all of the Oakland bike retailers before being comfy with a decision. My mind kept going back to that pista Sei Giorni. . . So I went back, took a test ride and bought it. They tuned it up and offered to add a front brake, which I took them up on (glad I did). It was ready in an hour. Now, I ride it every day.

Great selection of high end vintage bikes. Casey was phenomenally helpful. Not only to me, but to the 3 or 4 other people that streamed in within a matter of minutes. It's clear he loves bikes and cares about you loving yours. To that point, he patiently asked me about my needs and what bike he thought would match them best. All said and done, I left with a new, used bike I adore and, trust that should anything go wrong, they will be eager to help with any fixes. 5 stars!

Aight, I was in and out in just 5 minutes, no bullshit, no waiting. Plus he already had the assembled wheel(wheel, tube and tire) , which I was looking for and couldn't find anywhere else. Plus price was fair too Sean quickly replaced the part I wanted, tightened the handle, filled air in the tubes, told me about the locks that would be good and took the payment in 5 minutes. One cool things was that they have this payment system where the receipt can be send to you via text. I like it.

Needed a tube replacement, not a big deal, but they didn't have it. Not hello, not good bye, "meh!" experience. Walking back home and thinking how "meh!" it was.

This is easily the best bike shop in Oakland. I feel like going into a bike shop is usually unnecessarily intimidating. People trying to up sell, people being lackadaisical, or douchey bike snobbery plague bike shops. King Kog is not one of those shops. On initially stepping in it can seem intimidating because the staff has a definite punk edge, but everyone is extremely nice, knowledgeable, and professional. They have a great array of new and used bikes. Their merch is cool and the their prices for repairs are very fair.

Avoid this place. I went in to buy a new seat. But when I left the store and experienced it for the first time, I realized it was a lot more uncomfortable than the one I originally had. I immediately returned to take it back. But they were adamant that they couldn't refund my money. I was furious because that policy was not made clear to me until that point. It's poorly displayed as a small note on their computer. In addition to that, they repaired my bike and when I got it back, I noticed that they damaged the paint. I will not return. They're rude with poor business practices and dishonorable in the way that they treat their customers.

Been In 3 times picking up parts for a new commuter build, the employees have barely acknowledged me 2 of 3 times, the guy with the beard laughed at me on the phone because I had never heard of tubular cyclocross wheels, other guy was nice enough to explain in person. Being belittled due to lack of knowledge of shouldn't be what you get at the bike shop! Try somewhere else.

I asked them to change the brake cords one white and one black I came back the next day to pick it up they said it's 30 bucks but instead they have both cord with white then the guy said well ok we can change it then I came back the next day they did finally do it one white and one black but they charge me 116.00 bucks which is a total ripped off from 30 dollars I personally do not recommend this place . First it's not even my fault that they messed up putting two white cords because they are not communicating with each other well then they charge the customer wayyyy so much despite of their messed up horrible experienced I will never comeback to this place ever

I'm a person of few words. This will be brief. These fine people did an awesome job with my bike. I will be going back in the future for any of my bicycle repairs and/or upgrades. I would definitely recommend them to anyone that asks me for a GOOD bike shop in Oakland

Awesome service, very nice guy, excellent prices. I've tried several other shops over the years & while my service wasn't bad, it wasn't terrific, and all those shops are much pricier than King Kog.

These guys listen. I do my own builds and repairs but I was working with some new, to me, equipment and needed a part. When I stopped by they saved me from myself when tried to buy an adapter that comes in multiples sizes. They told me they had most sizes including what I probably needed and asked me to stop in when I had my bike with me. Limped the bike in on one brake and 15 minutes later rolled out with two solid brakes. Really just expected to pickup they part but they threw it on to make sure it was correct. While I was there they helped out a novice builder with exceptional patience and advice. They have a large collection of new and high quality used parts as well as some wicked cool used frame sets waiting for someone to take home and build up. This is a small shop with a small selection of new and, I believe, used bikes. Offering good service a fair prices with an inventory of the kind of parts you need to keep you on the road.

Incredible nice people and they did AMAZING work on my bike!!! I swear, my bike was a ratty piece of crap when I brought it in for a tune up. They finished the tune up and re-wrapped my handlebars in less than 24 hours. When I rode away after leaving the shop, I gasped audibly because of how different my bike felt. Seriously, it was as if I just rode out of the store with a brand new spanking bike. SHOUT OUT to Sean for staying late to get the job done, being super friendly, and for restoring my bike from the dead for such an inexpensive price. THANK YOU!!!!!

My friend needed some help setting up his bike after a year of inactivity. The guy here was so friendly and so helpful. It was really refreshing to walk into a bike shop without worrying about shade being thrown your way. Great location, great service, and a fair price. I now have a home bike shop in downtown Oakland.

As cliche as the sentiment has become, I really wanted to like King Kog, especially since my go to shop, Bay Area Bikes, closed. I am a hobbyist bike mechanic. On my first visit the guy at the counter mis cut my fork crown race and tried to sell me a used Paul Comp canti brake for more than it would cost new. On the second visit the same guy, presumably the owner or manager, sold me a bulk chain that was cut too short for my standard six speed mountain bike and insisted the Sram quick link would work in place of the Shimano chain pin I needed for another bike (it didn't). Both times he overcharged me for incidentals like cables and housing which alone is forgivable in order to support a small business with good service or one that is at least making an effort but this place is sloppy and condescending.

I was going in to pick up some gear for my little sister's bike, but when I got to the location a worker assumed we weren't there to buy anything and asked us to step out of the store with our bikes, then asked if we were there to use the bike pump. I felt that he had no welcome in his tone and that he was trying to shoo us away directly on arrival. no diversity in staff either seemed exclusively caucasian.

Had me in and out quickly! My chain got tangled up in my wheel they basically untangled it in 30 seconds and put my gears back in alignment at a real good price. I thought I'd have to wait awhile to get my bike back and would need a whole new chain. Thank you!

In a town full of bike shops, this shop gets top stars! Did some work again on my bike the other day and needed some professional fine tuning. Walked in on a Monday afternoon and within 10 my bike was up on the stand, adjusted and back in my hands all for $10, (yes in Oakland that's a deal for labor). What's better the adjustment was perfect. I'll be back! Props!

I had two awful experiences in this shop. The first time I visited I was bike shopping. I haven't ridden a bike in over a decade and really had no idea what I was doing but decided to check out this spot. As soon as I walked in the three young male employees stared at me like they've never had human interaction before and did not approach me or ask me any questions about my goal. (btw im Black and they're all white so factor that in however you'd like) I was in there for about five minutes and not one person talked to me so I left. I figured I wasn't going to get the type of help i needed finding a bike from them so I left. I ended up buying a bike in SF and had a totally opposite experience where the bike seller asked me questions, helped me understand what size bike would work for me and offered maintenance work whenever I needed it. It was great. Now that I secured a bike, i needed a helmet, which SF bike seller did not have and after seeing the bike shop on 19th was closed i had no choice but to head back to king kog. this time i walked in and they actually said hello. but that was about it. they carried on conversations about smoking weed and leaving early to go on dates so i abruptly interrupted, knowing now that i have to speak up to get service, and asked about helmets, one male employee pointed to a wall and said "there." and returned to his conversation. no questions about price points or style helmet. maybe its because i've worked customer service for 5 years but i know "there" is not how you make a sale especially when your products are overpriced. anyway after nagging them to help me about prices one guy across the room yells "$100" for a helmet that I found on amazon for $30. at this point i once again knew i wasn't going to get any actual help so i left. (I honestly could have taken a helmet cos the employees were so preoccupied on their conversation about leaving early that they didn't even realize that i left.) see now the problem with King Kog is that they expect you to know what you want and they dont know how to interact with the community they serve. they're rude and pretentious without even dropping any real bike knowledge. do yourself and your community a favor and support Bikes 4 less in West Oakland or literally any other shop than this gentrified stain on our community.
