The Sangiliyan Statue is a prominent historical monument located at Muthirai Junction in Nallur, Jaffna. It commemorates Cankili II, also known as King Sangiliyan, the last ruler of the Jaffna Kingdom who reigned from 1617 to 1619. He is remembered for his resistance against Portuguese colonial forces before being captured and executed in Goa, marking the end of Tamil rule in the region. The statue, first erected in 1974 and later re-installed in 2011, portrays the king in a heroic pose, symbolizing courage and defiance. Today, it stands as an important cultural and historical landmark in northern Sri Lanka, reflecting the pride and heritage of the Tamil community in Jaffna.
