The 21 Best Things to Do in Charleston

"Although more chain stores have moved into this multi-block shopping stretch in the last few years, it's still a walker's paradise. If you love to avoid looking like "everyone else," then get fully outfitted at Hampden Clothing, Worthwhile or Ibu Movement, then accessorize with a blingy bauble (heirloom, preferably) from Croghan's Jewel Box or Joint Venture Estate Jewelers. Scent thyself with high-end spritzes from Cos Bar or Blue Mercury, shop for silver and the coffee table or curio to display it at George C. Birlant or the other antique shops, then accessorize your home with a piece of artwork from a variety of galleries, ranging from Hagan Fine Art to classics from the Audubon Gallery." - Allston McCrady

Overly hyped place. Just a street with a bunch of little shops that sell the same things at high prices.

King Street in Charleston, SC, is a captivating blend of historic charm and modern vibrancy, offering a unique shopping and dining experience. The street’s architecture and atmosphere provide a picturesque backdrop for a leisurely stroll. From high-end boutiques to local artisan shops, there’s a diverse array of stores to explore. Dining options are equally varied, with establishments like The Ordinary and Husk offering memorable culinary experiences. However, the popularity of King Street comes with its challenges. The area can become exceedingly crowded, especially during weekends and special events, making navigation and parking difficult. The influx of retailers has also led to concerns about rising rents and the displacement of local businesses, potentially impacting the street’s unique character. Be sure to support local on your visit! Despite these issues, King Street remains a must-visit destination for those seeking a mix of history, shopping, and dining in Charleston. Planning your visit during off-peak hours or weekdays can enhance the experience, allowing you to fully appreciate what this iconic street has to offer.

King Street is AMAZING! Historic buildings, unique shops, and on the second Sunday of each month, it's pedestrian-only! We lucked out and caught the street festival - incredible local vendors, fantastic music, and an electric atmosphere. SO MUCH FUN! Don't miss it!"
