This is a family owned, operated and maintained by the community it was built into. Their food is incredible. Soul food meat and three side in a cafeteria style buffet line. The atmosphere has you feeling like you’re at your grandmas or mom’s house. 10/10 RECOMMEND. tourists try this one!

Google
Walked in for the first time today and was warmly greeted by two lovely ladies at the counter. From that one interaction, I had a feeling the food would be phenomenal—and I was right. The ribs were perfectly tender with a sauce that complemented them beautifully. The sides were just as impressive, and the peach cobbler didn’t stand a chance—it was gone in seconds. So glad I found this place. Easy 10/10.

Everytime I'm there I receive professional, friendly and attentive service. The food is prepared as ordered and to taste and the atmosphere is always calming and caring. Also, Mr. Howard and Mr. Ernest and staff are awesome!

Google
Tried this place on Super Bowl Sunday and while the cashier was super sweet and polite this plate is HORRID. Please stop selling dressing, this mess is mushy and NO FLAVOR, these greens are also tragic with no real flavor, this meat loaf I have to drown in hot sauce just to get it down because nothing else is open and I spent $20 on a plate I can’t even finish. Please take these reviews to heart about your flavors. I saw some comment talking about he from the Mississippi Delta and he doubled back for some more dressing and all I can say is he ain’t got no tastebuds and ALL my ancestors, ( I am Mississippi Born and raised) would have cussed him from here to yonder telling that BOLD FACE LIE about it tasting like a Delta Grandmother made it. You could have kept that. Again your server was super nice and sweet but NO WONDER it was 6 going on 7 when I pulled up and MOST of their food was still unsold and they close at 8. I’ll eat a peanut butter and jelly and SAND sandwich before I spend money here again.

I was in town for the Matters of the Heart race and stopped by. The sweet potato souffle is so incredible they are perfectly cooked and have a lot of flavor. Highly recommend the squash and the meatloaf..you won't be disappointed!

Google
Nice people and wonderful food. I was in town from Chicago doing some recruitment efforts and stopped by to drop off flyers and ended up having a full course meal. It was well worth every penny! They welcomed me to Nashville with some real soul food cooking!

Google
Just picked up my son from TSU and this was one of if not, his most favorite spot and he shared that with us and it was AMAZING! The food was just right and service is always on point. This is that place when you just want a good meal with no fuss. If you are nearby or even far away, you have to try it for good soul food.

Google
This might just be the best food I’ve ever had in Nashville. The service was incredible, and everything tasted phenomenal. The cornbread was better than my grandmas (though I’d never tell her that) and the peach cobbler was to die for. Would give 6 stars if I could

Yelp
Sometimes you just need that feeling of going to grandma's house& other times you'd rather just bask in the fragrance and feel like you've had the heartiest and best meal of your life. Well wait no more because this is the place where those worlds collide in the most epic way! Atmosphere is pleasant with smiling workers ready to serve you. Portion sizes make it worth the price and the flavor meets grandmas approval. Great for lunch, dinner or just a Saturday afternoon. If you are like me, don't leave without trying the Mac and cheese please!

Yelp
Great Food! Always Hot and ready to go. I go here with my family all the time on Sundays.

Yelp
My wife and I tried Kingdom Cafe and Grill last week. We got our food to go so I am not able to comment on the Ambiance but as for the food, it was delicious. Large portions and well priced. My wife had the meatloaf and it was very tasty. I had the friend chicken and it was out of this world. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the food and will be back soon.

Briana Y.

Yelp
The food was so good here and tasted fresh. There were plenty of options including many desserts. The staff was very friendly. We will definitely come back! They have indoor seating or you can take the food to go. It's kind of like cafeteria style you go through the line and pick what you want.

Yelp
Warm and friendly service. Black owned. Best soul food in Nashville hands down. Support!

Yelp
As my son puts it " one of the best meals I've had". And I have to agree, we came midday after visiting TSU for lunch. We were met with met smiles and friendly faces. We ordered the pork chop and fried chicken with collard greens, Mac & cheese and sweet potato.

Yelp
Great food and service! Stumbled upon this cafe while in town for TSU homecoming. We will be back!

Yelp
The food was delicious and seasoned well. The service was great from both employees I interacted with. The ambiance was relaxing with great music. Next time I visit Nashville, I'll be back.

Yelp
You know you're amongst good company when everyone greets and speaks to you. I was on the hunt for something wholesome to eat while passing through the area and Kingdom pop up as a good place for Soul Food. Since it wasn't too fast off the highway, I decided to stop in. Upon walking in, you step in to the New Orleans themed cafe style restaurant. We wasn't sure which way to go but someone pointed out that we step through a second doorway to place our order for food. They were in the middle of placing new fresher items on the prep line, so they had me wait seven minutes to get it together. No biggie but I knew what I wanted, so I placed my order for meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and green beans. WOW! Was I happy I ordered what I ordered. The meatloaf was moist, flavorful, tender. The potatoes were creamy but thick, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the meatloaf. The green beans were no exception to the total wow factor of the meal. They threw in a piece of cornbread with the meal that was moist, flaky, and perfectly cooked. Thec mark down is for the general condition of the establishment. While waiting in the dining area, another customer told me that the other section of the restaurant was cooler then the area I was sitting in while waiting for food. It was. And while eating, I was pestered by a couple little flies. You know when you're around good company and food when you hear someone humming gospel, groups of people chatting and seeing how your meal is/was, and you don't want to leave. Lol! They fix those few little minor issues and this place can give a lot of restaurant's a run for their money.

Yelp
I came early evening on a Friday and it was empty a few people coming and going. Tyrone Davis was playing in the background and somebody Granny in the back putting her foot and elbow into this food. It's made with Love. Oh and the Kool Aide Lawd Hamercy!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Everything looked so good i to a while to decide my sides. But I got what the owner recommended which was the Catfish cooked to order fresh An very quick! I got mash potato's no gravy (because it didn't need any!) an I got squash with a side of peach cobbler. Everything was seasoned so well An perfectly the environment was welcoming an quiet I felt a old school southern hospitality. I also tried my friend meatloaf an her yams were amazing as well. This is def a spot to check out an visit every time you come to Nashville!

Yelp
We found this place, on yelp it was so good, cafeteria style food was fresh and good. The background music was like sitting in you backyard.

Yelp
The best soul food I've had in years. Only complaint is the collard greens was bitter but everything was wonderful. I ordered two meals. One for lunch and other for dinner. I'll be back every Sunday long as I'm in Nashville.

Yelp
Very inviting. The line lady and cashier were very pleasant. The food was pretty good. Very reminiscent of my Baptist church anniversary food.

Howard J.

Yelp
If soul experience was a picture this would be it. Great food, great place, great people.

Yelp
We traveled here from Florida on a college tour with high schoolers. We had a great dinner! We called ahead of time and brought 49 people with us. The food was wonderful! Omg. Great soul food. I couldn't even finish my food. The hospitality was great and the owners were very accommodating and welcoming. I love that the money made is given back to their local church and the community, they help people that need a "2nd chance". We will be back.

Yelp
Kingdom Cafe and Grill is a cafeteria-style restaurant serving up some southern/soul food. You choose to dine-in or carry-out, and then you are asked what meat(s) and sides you want. Some of the proteins they had on the line when I went were: meatloaf, fried chicken, fried pork chops, baked chicken, and ribs. Some of the sides included: mac and cheese, baked apples, green beans turnip greens, and more! I chose the ribs with a side of mac n cheese, turnip greens, and apples. I was not disappointed with any of my choices. The ribs were saucy (a nice tangy, almost sc style BBQ sauce), and the meat was tender. That mac and cheese was fly... some of the best Mac and Cheese I've had. The apples were sweet and well spiced, and the greens were good. This meal reminded me of being at a family gathering at that one auntie's house who really knows how to throw down in the kitchen! Great meal, friendly staff, good prices! Definitely plan to be back here!

Yelp
*Would have rated it 3 1/2 stars. I got a takeout order - meat & 2 sides plate: baked chicken, sweet potato and apples. The sides were great: apples were not overly seasoned (just right) and the mashed sweet potato was creamy with a good texture. The baked chicken was a little salty. I also got a slice of chocolate cake which was excellent. If you recall, I got a takeout order. When I asked for plasticware, they were out. Found plasticware at another restaurant. An ample amount of parking.

Yelp
Best soul food in the Ville! Sweet potatoes was smacking! I love the music selection and the backdrop. They make your fish to order and it is bomb! It's beating Helen's for sure! Everything was delicious and seasoned well. It didn't take a long time either. You can pay with cash or card. Parking lot is huge. It's located on Jefferson, convenient for nearby schools. If you're looking for some good soul food come here! It feels like home here, holiday cooking and they are so sweet and welcoming. I love my black restaurants for the culture and hospitality! I will be back

Yelp
Can I say that the food is more than amazing, It is right on point. Sorry I couldn't add a photo because this was my first time eating here and everything looked so good that when I got my plate and tasted the baked chicken and turnips I couldn't stop eating. The cornbread is out of this world . I am so glad that one of my riders told me this was her favorite place to get greens so I came here to try and I will assure you I will be back in fact I'm going back into see if I can get a large green and corn bread to take home to my family... thank you Kingdom Hall for your more than awesome food and kindness that I experienced while ordering my food. I give you all an A plus

Yelp
We were trying to locate some local good soul food, and were directed to this place. Boy...what a wrong turn THIS was. The food was HORRIBLE. It had no flavor. I am flabbergasted by the "good" reviews. Those people obviously don't know what good food tastes like. I feel pity for them.

Yelp
Chicken 100% Mac and cheese 100% Cornbread 100% tast like cake.... Yams 100% Cake 100%

Yelp
I heard about Kingdom Café & Grill through the grapevine and decided to go check it out. This place serves up some amazing southern food and was well worth my money! The environment was beautiful, the food was delicious, and the staff was super friendly. It is hard to come by a place that offers all the above...and that's just the "Cafe" side of the restaurant. The "Grill" side will be opening very soon and will offer burgers, sandwiches, and etc. Once this side is open, I will be making another visit! This restaurant was opened as a ministry effort by Fairfield Missionary Baptist Church to provide jobs for the job-challenged, offer a service to the community, and help revitalize Historic Jefferson Street. For up-to-date info, follow Kingdom Café & Grill on Facebook. I tip my hat for a job well done!!!

Yelp
The service was great everyone was super friendly. We had a LARGE party and we came in near closing time. The restaurant was also very clean!

Koily K.

Yelp
Amazing quality food! The fish, greens & mac n cheese are heaven sent! Bless up pon them

Yelp
Thee BEST southern restaurant I've been to in Nashville. The authenticity of the food was just too amazing. I enjoyed it so much I told my hubby I wanted to go back the next day. Very cheerful employee, and the owner was far too kind. The place was clean and the food was too delicious. One of the best dressings I've had in suck a long time.

Carol B.

Yelp
Ordered delivery from Kingdom Cafe today via Grubhub and it definitely won't be the last time I do. I live almost 8 miles from the restaurant but the food arrived piping hot. I got the meatloaf with green beans and mashed potatoes. The meat loaf was delicious and the serving size was huge. The green beans were some of the best I've eaten outside my grandmother's kitchen and I also enjoyed the mashed potatoes. One warning, the veggies were a little pepper heavy. I would have liked the cornbread better without sugar in the batter and with a big pat of butter but that's a personal preference. If you don't like old fashion Southern cooking, pick another restaurant. But, if you love good ole home cooking, give Kingdom Cafe and Grill a try.
google avatar

Andrea A.

Yelp
Great place to come after church for soul food. I gave it 4 stars because of the Mac and cheese and the sweet tea was extremely sweet. It shouldn't be too sweet. That is what packets of sugar is for.
google avatar

Tanya J.

Yelp
The ambience & theme was good, with Keith Sweat & other music playing. It's cafeteria-style to pick up food. K got a fried chicken leg (for me) and thigh, cooked apples, & mac & cheese, which he liked. He told me to get the sausage with peppers (for him) & potatoes (for me), which he liked. And I got mashed potatoes & green beans that were seasoned well. The fam thought things were salty (but they still ate it all) and I only thought the potatoes in the sausage was a little salty but it was good with the green beans to me! M had the sausage & potatoes, mac & cheese, & green beans, JA had 2 fried chicken legs (we shared one), mac & cheese, & green beans (she didn't like the green beans but tasted the apples & liked those). JO had 2 servings of mac & cheese & green beans (he said they were both ok bc of the salty mac in his opinion). Me & the boys liked the cornbread. I thought the place was decent and the lady at the cash register was really friendly! It's not a ritzy place but I wasn't expecting it to be.
google avatar

Barry E.

Yelp
Pretty disappointing. I had fried pork chops, mashed potatoes and pinto beans. The chops were very overcooked, to the point where they were dry and chewy. Basically I had pork jerky. The sides were okay but nothing to get excited about. I doubt that I'll go back.
google avatar

Veyonka O.

Yelp
It was once good now the serving sizes are way smaller and the food is bland. The service use to be really good but it has went way down maybe it's new management or something.

First E.

Yelp
Home cooked meal ready! Baked chicken so tender and juicy! Sweet potatoes, green beans and cornbread! This is how REAL SOUTHERNERS eat!
google avatar

Tracy-ann S.

Yelp
Really nice establishment. They were very accommodating to our large group and the food was excellent. Had the barbecue chicken, rice and greens. Finished with warm Peach cobbler. Was also economical, under $15 for a full meal.

Cornelius H.

Yelp
Best in Nashville so far! Everything that I've tasted on the menu was excellent! It would be nice if they had a buffet at least once a week so you can try various items for 1 price.
google avatar

Dahlia J.

Yelp
The food was truly amazing. My phone said they close at 9pm but they close at 8pm just FYI. They were clearly shutting down and they took chairs off the table so we could sit and eat. They meatloaf, mashed sweet potatoes, cabbage, and cornbread I have were very tasty. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting a home cooked meal.
google avatar

Madhava C.

Yelp
Yum Mac and cheese. But pretty limited options for vegetarians. The manager there was a very helpful lady. Lots of meat options nevertheless.
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
Great southern cooking. Everything was good but they're Mac n cheese is ! Meatloaf was spot on as well as the pork steak.
google avatar

Yelp
The reviews are so off for this place! Let me give step by step about the experience. Went on a Sunday. Line was out of the door...which was expected. Was thinking we would still move through expeditiously because of the buffet style service, but NO! They constantly ran out of food. Staff was disorganized and didn't know what food was coming out next. There was a 30 minute wait for the corn bread, which came customary with every meal. The desserts did not look appetizing at all. The meatloaf didn't look like ground beef I would eat. The remnants of the baked chicken looked dry, even when surrounded by gravy. Mac n cheese was parched, with no real flavor...that goes for all the sides. FINALLY, the cornbread came out and it was just okay. There was only one cashier, which clearly could have used some help. Food was cold before getting to the table. First and last time here. Would not recommend. Sad.

Yelp
Went by while at a convention in Nashville. My husband and I always try to go into the neighborhoods and visit local eateries. This was a cafeteria style restaurant. We got there around 4pm late lunch early dinner. The selection was a little limited by then. However a fresh meat loaf was coming out the kitchen. It was amazing, the food was tasty like home southern cooking. Met the owner who told us they sow back into the community was another plus. Please stop by and support local neighborhood restaurants.
google avatar

Maui M.

Yelp
best soul food in nashville. i really appreciate that they don't put meat/pork in their veggies, that can be hard to find! make sure you get some mac and cheese ;)
google avatar

Kristi W.

Yelp
The food is always amazing here. Hot and with just enough soul. I've had the meatloaf multiple times and love it. The mac is cheesy goodness, and I never leave without having the peach cobbler.
google avatar

Amanda R.

Yelp
Went here for our first meal after moving to Nashville and we're NOT disappointed! They were getting ready to close, but still gave us a warm welcome and told us about which foods they had left. Everything was still piping hot and tasted delicious. Highly recommend the mac and cheese that was approved by my Mac and cheese connoisseur boyfriend. While we were waiting, everyone there was EXTREMELY friendly and welcoming and truly wanted to get to know us. Will definitely be back! Can't wait to visit for breakfast!

Ellen C.

Yelp
Just had a meal that was out of this world from Kingdom Cafe & Grill! This place is flavorful, tender, crispy and all things delicious. My cream potatoes tasted as if they were just peeled and whipped up in my mom's kitchen. This is my favorite soul food restaurant I've ever come across.

Quilla S.

Yelp
The best soul food and everything in between that you will find in Nashville. Hands downnnnn! Try it for breakfast, lunch or dinner you will be exceptionally pleased! The best food ever!
google avatar

Tyler D.

Yelp
The food is SO GOOD!! And, the service is excellent, too. I ordered from their restaurant for the first time and PostMates brought me an incomplete order. The Manager was so hospitable and diligent in his service that he personally came to deliver my missing items. It's rare these days that a restaurant takes initiative like that and I am glad to have them a part of our foodie community. Definitely will stop by one of the Sunday night jazz evenings. Looking forward to eating here again!

Carmen F.

Yelp
I decided to visit this restaurant based from that positive reviews that I've seen on Yelp. I ordered a meat and two veggies and the peach cobbler. The entire meal was a disappointment. The chicken was just okay, barely seasoned and dry. The turnip greens tasted as if canned greens were blended with fresh. The macaroni and cheese was milky with not enough cheese. It did not seem authentic, Not homemade (so to speak)and under seasoned. This is my first and last visit.
google avatar

I P.

Yelp
This was a fantastic experience! From the beautiful decor, unbelievably delicious food and the customer service our experience was beyond impressive! I will definitely be back with friends!
google avatar

Kevon P.

Yelp
I absolutely love the decor in the restaurant. The servers tend to have nasty attitudes and I think it translates into the food as well. It was just ok. I didn't really like any of my food. I do like what the pastor does by offering inmates a place to work.
