We decided to make an impromptu stop here for Father's Day. Turns out impromptu is the way to go. Why? We figured most places would be crowded due to the copious amounts of rain we had and the thunderstorms coming through, but were so pleasantly surprised when it wasn't busy and we scored a table outside on their covered patio.
The hostess promptly seated us and our server (I can't remember his name, but he had gray hair and was SUPER jovial and just a delight) came out, took our drink orders, and when I asked what ales they had on tap, he brought me out and my parents a few samples, so we could make a decision.
I opted to get the Reef Donkey ale, which was nice and light and perfect for the humid conditions.
One of the reasons KingFish is a gem is because of the great marina and coastal views you get outside. I heard they were known for their sushi and when I asked our server for the menu he said that the sushi chef is a second generation classically trained sushi chef from Japan and our server mentioned he was half Japanese and this was some of the best sushi he's ever had, so I knew I had to try the sushi.
We ordered a few starters: gator tail and clam strips. They came out hot and delicious, light breading on both, and each were tender.
My dad ordered the soup of the day: andouille sausage with beer cheese (I took a sip....it was good, but a bit spicy for my liking), my mom and husband ordered the fish sandwich with mahi, and I ordered the tuna roll (not spicy).
Everyone loved their meals. I did take a bite of the fish sandwich and it was flakey and well seasoned. I then dug into my sushi. It tasted fresh, the sushi rice was sticky and perfectly cooked. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the some type of chili powder/spiciness on top. My lips were en fuego, but to be honest, it tasted so good that I didn't mind.
Pros:
-Great service
-Variety of items on the menu (they also have a kid's menu)
-Beautiful views
-Happy hour on the weekends (3-5pm...$2 domestic drafts), they also have a deal from 1 - 3pm mimosas, bloody mary's, and and sangria
Cons:
-Would have preferred no spice flakes on my sushi
Tips: Check out their happy hour, you can't beat the view!
