Yelp
Our stay at Kingfisher was fantastic! We were in the penthouse and it offers the kind of experience you would expect, with only a few rough edges (more on that later). Throughout our stay, from checkin to checkout, room service, etc staff were friendly and attentive.
The view of the bay and mountains across the water from the room were beautiful. The grounds are well kept with a lot of attention paid to the flowers in the central area (where there are about a dozen fire pits that are turned on every evening. We weren't able to book time in the Spa, though it seemed to be popular with other guests coming/going there frequently. The pool is a salt water pool, somewhat heated (our stay was in early September so not too cool outside) and there's a steam room and dry sauna.
The penthouse was such a great experience that we opted to spend a lot of time in it. There's all the usual things you'd expect in a hotel room (ironing board + iron, coffee maker, etc) but the room surprised us with the tech it has:
- heated floors
- built in sound-system in the ceiling of the living room (3 speakers) and bathroom (2 speakers), each room can be Airplay'd to separately or together. Has a decent amount of bass, too! One of our favorite features.
- a Woodbridge electronic toilet+bidet combo, with a separate control pad to manage all of its features. Probably our favorite feature of the room . The toilet area also has a Qi charging plate built in to charge your phone while you're using the toilet (a nice touch)
- electronic curtains controllable from a pad by the bed. Love being able to open/close the curtains from the bed. The room can be nearly blacked out with the curtains closed
The patio outside the room facing the water was spacious, having 4 chairs and two small tables. Plenty of room to move around out there. One of the things that
kept us in the room for meals was the large dining table that looks out the two big windows over the water and mountains--comparable view to inside the Ocean7 restaurant but we can control the music, cut out the noise from a restaurant setting, etc. Room service was consistently excellent both in speed and options (we had breakfast twice, dinner once, and some bottles of wine separately.) The finish in the room is superb, really immaculate work done by the folks who built it. The furniture was great, from the couch, purple chairs, dining room chairs, and the two Herman Miller chairs (really great additions to the room. The bed is good, not too soft. They include a Mon Chateau throw blanket that my partner fell in love with, and we used when sitting outside for a sunrise. The TV seems nice but we never used it. The room has a full kitchen (full size fridge and freezer, microwave, toaster, dishwasher, cutlery and cutting boards, silverware, selection of plates and bowls--just missing a normal oven). This was actually great to have over a couple days.
The bathroom is extremely spacious, nice tub and excellent shower that easily fits two. The backlit rock in the shower is a great unique touch.
We identified a few miner rough edges in the room:
- The dining table chairs need some kind of a pad on their feet to minimize the noise when moving them
- The AC system is more complicated than it needs to be (3 things look like they control the AC unit in the main room, and the binder for the room that has instructions for everything says to use one of them, but the remote is the only way to make the AC actually turn on)
- lighting around the mirrors in the bathroom could be improved so they are brighter.
- there's no food or alcohol/drinks in the room.
Overall, it's a lot of money for the room, but in our opinion it's a truly amazing experience at a great resort with an impressive restaurant (Ocean7) and great room service offerings. We will definitely come back to Kingfisher and book the penthouse again (but more more days!)
