11 of the Most Beautiful Golf Courses in the World

"A classic links laid out along nearly two miles of North Sea coastline, this picturesque and bracingly seaside course is both challenging and evocative of Scottish links tradition, located just a short drive from the historic Old Course and frequently cited as an essential stop for a dream coastal golf visit." - Patricia Doherty Patricia Doherty Patricia Doherty is a writer who specializes in covering destinations, resorts, and cruises for Travel + Leisure and other publications. Google
My new #1 favorite course and the most beautiful course I've played. Beautiful views of the North Sea from most holes, and the course is in immaculate condition. Our caddies Calum and Ethan were excellent in helping us navigate the course and greens with great senses of humor, and having them with us for the round made our experience absolutely perfect. When we spoke to a few employees at St Andrews and told them we were playing Kingsbarns, many of them said that if they only had the opportunity to play one round in Fife, Kingsbarns would be their choice, even over the Old Course.

Google
Kingsbarns is a stunning and well-kept course with North Sea views from nearly every hole. The layout is modern but challenging, and the conditions were excellent. Caddies and staff were professional and friendly, and the food in the clubhouse was delicious. Even though it’s a newer course, it’s absolutely worth a visit—definitely a must-play in Scotland.

This is a fantastic golf course. We had a 6:20am tee time and it played perfectly. It is tough but fair. Stunning views from every hole. Conner, our caddie was terrific. The traps are tough but they should be because you are playing golf in Scotland. I think this is the nicest golf course I’ve ever played, even better than Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It is unique and beautiful. I highly recommend it and will play it every time I am here.

Google
Incredible experience. Bucket list course, amazing views abounded. Great weather, staff, food, and course condition. Sad to leave. Hope to play it again someday! Shot below my index too 😎

Google
Wow what a course, arguably the best course near St. Andrews it has some incredible holes. From the moment you arrive the welcoming committee and grounds are very inviting. They have a fantastic range, restaurant and pro shop and the caddies are absolutely top notch. This was our favorite course and a must play if you are in the area.

Google
This was one of the best golf experiences of our lives. The course is stunning and challenging. The accommodations are first class. The course went without saying but what really made our day a 10/10 was our caddies - Jack and Bart. They were professional, knowledgeable, and an all-around great time. They were so goods that it made an amazing day that much better! Thank you to the staff and grounds crew at Kingsbarn! A huge THANK YOU to Jack and Bart! We will be back!! Cheers!!!

Google

Google
Absolute gem, best course in Scotland. Expensive but you get what you pay for from the moment you arrive to the time you leave.played in July with perfect weather which was a bonus, also played in 30 mph winds in St Andrews but loved it regardless. Loved it so much we’re heading back in April 26.

Yelp
As good as it gets. Great service from the top on down. Great Caddy (Graham)!!!! What a great experience. I was treated like a member. Great condition and worth every Pound! Loved the rental clubs and the beer after was great. All of the employees loved their job and were so friendly. All of the locals said it was the best and I agree. The service made it awesome from the starter to the hostess. Keep it up.

Yelp
Best course so far on our trip. I had the best caddie of my life, Lorna is a +3 and in college on a golf scholarship. She improved my score so much, thank you! This course is fair and absolutely beaut. I will definitely be coming back. Scottish people are so friendly. Food at the restaurant is great, love the Mac N Cheese.

Yelp
Excellent links style golf course. Best played on our week trip to St. Andrews. Staff are great and welcoming. My caddie, Ricky, was wonderful. Very knowledgeable and helpful with the golf and great company on a loop that I will never forget! Highly recommend a stop at Kingsbarns on your trip.

Yelp
The most incredible golf course! I heard that it's reputation is that this is the "Pebble Beach" of Scotland and should be rated #1. The bar & grill have some wonderful sandwich options from burgers to chicken. Of course a multitude of cold beer options help to chase it down or celebrate a memorable golf day.

Yelp
Awesome course. This is a definite on everyone's list or at least should be. Challenging course with great views. At the restaurant, I got the chowder. Good stuff, not great, but good. Staff was extremely nice.

Yelp
Beautiful golf course in the St. Andrews area. The views were incredible looking out to the sea from every hole on the course. The greens, bunkers, and fairways were immaculate! This is a challenging track but blows away all of the St. Andrews courses.... The club house served excellent whisky and Belhaven Black Ale. The food and employees were great! Play twice in the week and second green fees are 1/2 price.

Yelp
One of the most beautiful courses in Scotland Played here oct 2013. Worth every penny (pence?) The course is in magnificent shape, even to American (not necessarily the better) Standards- It's a man made links course with 17 holes of ocean views Service is off the hook- only surpassed by Turnberry (and only barely) - felt welcomed and served at all times Caddies were second only to St Andrews (my caddy was untouchable at the Old) Will return every golf visit to GB from now on

Yelp
FANTASTIC experience!!!! Our caddies rocked (ask for Jack), the setting just north of St. Andrews along the North Sea was great--(#12 Par 5 is the signature hole). No really much to say but a must play if in Scotland.

Yelp
I'm speechless and in awe of this golf course. Everything was as near to perfection as one could hope for: conditions, playability, service...all amazing. The caddies we had were the best I've experienced. If you love golf and are near Edinburgh, you will think you've died and gone to heaven. Will soon be considered one of the best in the world.

Yelp
Fantastic golf course. Excellent layout and a real joy to play. The long par 5 along the water is a fantastic hole. I'm a +0.5 handicap and while this wasn't the most difficult course I've played, it definitely made me use every club in my bad and every shot in my repertoire. If you're in St. Andrews, do yourself a favour and make the journey down to Kingsbarns, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Hands-down the best golf course in Europe! Amazing views, spectacular course, excellent service, delicious food. They know how to make your entire experience enjoyable.

Yelp
Golf was great, beautiful golf course. Pricey proshop for kingsbarn apparel but if you want it you'll pay! Restaurant food for lunch was not great. Nice to eat for the views and to watch people playing into 18 but don't expect an outstanding lunch

Yelp
Booked a tee time here at the advice of a friend while in town to play the Old Course. I didn't do much research in the course so imagine my surprise once I hotly the first tee. This is a special place and a must visit.

Lyn D.

Yelp
This place is incredible! The course is beautiful and challenging. Definitely our favorite place to play. Every person we met, from the time we pulled up to the time we left, was friendly, helpful and eager to please. We had a flat (and no spare!) on the way to the course and had to hitch a ride to make our tee time. Paul was the first to greet us and make us feel welcome. We had our clubs shipped directly and they were there waiting for us when we arrived. A gentleman in the golf shop was trying to arrange for another rental car for us while we played our round of golf. After the round, we realized the rental car was not going to be a possibility, Paul offered to drive us 30 minutes to our car and arranged for a taxi to meet us to get our luggage. He went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of. We loved the course so much that we decided to come back for another round two days later. My husband played the Old Course in between and he preferred Kingsbarns to the Old Course. We had two great caddies for our rounds. The pro shop was fully stocked and we were able to get lots of great Kingsbarns gear. We highly recommend playing this course. If you can only play one course in Scotland, this is the one you want to play!
