10 Best Places for Shopping in Key West | Condé Nast Traveler

"A Key West staple since 1966, Kino Sandals' hand-crafted footwear draws just as many tourists as it does, locals; both are loyal to the brand for its affordability and high-quality craftsmanship. The shop, a must-visit while in town, has become a Key West signature souvenir. The sandals are incredibly well-priced ($18 to $21)—get a pair in every color—and there are also purses and wallets worth scoping out. Be sure to visit the back of the store, too, where you can watch the master shoemakers in action." - Nancy DePalma

Google
Excellent, High quality, unique and approachable sandals with long history and aura sold in historical setting from unmatched iconic location. Will continue to support this brand and Key West Made products as from my knowledge no comps are available on East Coast with this much history.

Great spot for shoes! Or rather, sandals, or chanklas. Prices are decent, staff takes their time with you. Try stuff on, ask for different colors. Quality foot wear for sure. Fun decor on the walls

Google
"another original gone corporate" ... Disappointed. I bought my first pair of Kino's in the keys in 1975 and as a 15-year-old I couldn't wear them out even wearing them all day over coral in Sigsbee park and working on the "Can't Miss"in Garrison Bight. I've always wanted to have another pair. But with sorely disappointed when I got a pair of sandals made out of manmade materials instead of the original leather. The style is the same. But this pair is not going to last me a year.

Have been shopping here for 30+ yrs and Kino Sandals never disappoint. All hand made in Key West, right there directly in the store. I have six pairs, in various colors and styles, I love them all and they last forever. Lily is my fav style (black sandal pic). Whenever my girlfriends or I are going to visit Key West, we always ask...what colors do you want me to bring you back! I always leave with a sack full. Love Kino Sandals!

I've been wearing KINOs for 20 years. We bought four pairs this trip. You can walk in KINO sandles all day long comfortably.

Yelp
Stopped in to checkout out this Key West Sandal Maker - the store front is exactly that a store front so don't plan on going on a shopping spree where you can browse for hours this is the actual factory and the selections are displayed on the one and only counter, you pick the style and color and one of their friendly employees will provide you with that product if it's in stock - if it's not you can go online at kinosandals.com. Living in Florida I practically live in sandals and flip-flops so I have quite the inventory from Reefs to OluKai but I wanted to see if there was something here that offered a different style which they do, but today I just couldn't find a pair that I couldn't live without, I'm sure I'll regret not making a purchase while here but at least I was able to hold a few pairs in my hands and see the quality so I likely will be placing an order online when I return home. Cool place, nice employees and quality products, it's likely I'll return when I'm back in Key West...

Yelp
A locally owned business which has been a part of Keys West since the 1960's where they make homemade men's and women's sandals. All natural leather and quality stitching. With 17 styles of sandals, the catered to women mostly but there a few men's options too. See attached pictures. All sandals were open-toe style. Very reasonably priced, they were about $30 each! To me a GREAT price for handmade, quality sandals. Also don't expect a sandal or shoe box when buying them. They use small plastic bags. A family member will help you get the correct size. Just ask and it will be delivered. Men's sandals may run a smaller. I wear a 10 1/2 and she had me try a size 12 which fit perfectly. My wife is a size 7 and her sandal is a size 7. The store itself is quaint and small. When you walk in you are greeted with a front counter that displays all the sandals. So no browsing through the store. Behind the front counter is where they make the sandals. NOTE: it can get pretty warm in there, so you might perspire a little bit. Comfort - the insoles are slightly cushion. So don't expect to walk a 5 mile hike in them. However for going out to an event with some walking, they are nice and stylish to be in. HINT - Walk in them for a few days to "break" them in for added comfort. Natural leather might conform to your foot sole.

Yelp
If you're thinking about taking home, a prized possession, an item that is specific to Key West, visit, Kino Sandals. Very high-quality sandals, for men and women in all sizes, and a great value. Definitely worth a visit and high-quality and local product..

Yelp
Kino sandals is a Key West tradition and destination whenever you visit the Keys. The business is family owned and has been around for decades. All the sandals are handmade right there on site. The whole family is patient and kind and helps everyone who enters from the tiniest kid to the elderly who are looking for style and comfort. The best thing about the sandals are they leather so you can soak them to loosen them up for the best fit. If you are ever in Key West you need to stop in and buy a pair.

Yelp
I have been coming here for years! same great quality at the same GREAT price!!! can't recommend their sandals enough!

Yelp
Kino sandals, located in Kino Plaza on Green St, a block off of Duval, is a mainstay in old town Key West and my lifelong favorite maker of flip flops. The men's lilly are unbeatable. Handmade for decades, and still less than $30 per pair, Kinos are the ultimate sandal. The company specializes in many handmade leather products but their traditional flipflop is in 2024 still unbeatable. I can only speak for myself because I can walk in them all day, day after day, and even hike on moderate level trails in my Kinos with zero issues. Some may need greater arch support or have other issues that require more specialized footwear but Kinos have been my lifelong go-to during every summer since the 1980's. These sandals last for years without problem - one of my favorite things about them. For men the styles and colors are much more limited unfortunately though the blues, black, browns, and occasional specialty colors are more than enough to keep my options fully loaded whenever it's warm enough to leave my sneakers behind and don any of my favorite summer footwear. To me, everyone body else is second to Kinos. Kinos are high quality, attractive, colorful, and fantastic value.

Yelp
Wow! I would not have known about this amazing local leather sandal maker (small purses and other limited accessories too) had it not been for a couple we met on our food/drink/history Tour who has been to Key West numerous times. They make the sandals IN KEY WEST and they have a counter with the various styles and color combinations available. Employees are very friendly and knowledgeable. Did I mention how affordable the sandals are?!?! You will be amazed especially at their comfort! Bought several pairs and a few for gifts. A 20-something walking in and had them on and said she's been wearing that pair for 6 years. Love supporting locally home-grown businesses! Do not miss!

Yelp
My mom has loved this sandal company for 40 years and anytime anyone has been in town she asks for them to bring some home. This was my first visit and I do love these sandals too. Very comfortable, and hold up really well. Black is a VERY popular color so the do run out of sizes in the popular colors and I don't think they do half sizes in mens larger sizes. I do wish they had some more young boy sandals, the kid sandals they had were a bit too feminine for my sons style.

Yelp
Love my new sandals from Kino Sandals. The ladies there work really hard to find you whatever you need and the sandals are so affordable and comfortable!

Yelp
First off, great inexpensive sandals. Yes, they make them right there! I support all products "Made in America." The sandals last. My previous pair was around 7 years old. I would find it impossible to order them online. There is quite a bit of fit variation within the same size. In store, you select the style and size you want to try. The employee brings you one pair to try from the basket that has like 50 pairs of the same in it. I had to beg to get her to let me try multiple pairs. She said she wished she "had more time" to help me. It's not that difficult when you are trying for fit variations in the same style, size and color sandal. It's not like they will get mixed up. I think I tried 5 pair and got a perfect fit. Then I moved on to a different color in the same style and size. Now, the employee had the hang of it and brought an armful. Second pair I tried were perfect! You cannot go wrong with $25 leather sandals! The employee had the mobile credit card machine in hand. It appeared they only wanted credit card payment. I had cash, but gave her a CC instead. Surprise, they add a 3.5% credit card fee! They don't tell anyone they are doing this and I asked about it, since I did have cash. It was too late. The transaction was already complete. And her response was "all the t-shirt shops are doing this." Well, I am not IN a t-shirt shop. Not sure this is legal as businesses can get this fee refunded on their taxes. As a business, just add that extra $1.50 to the price of each sandal. Don't be deceptive.

Yelp
I mean Kinos are classic Key West - handmade from Cuban immigrants- you must pay a visit here and grab a few pairs of the sandals- they last forever-such good quality. They have the classic version and now some different 'flavors' flip flops, banded, ankle wrapped and little bedazzled starfish, ladybugs Also have leather goods such as bags, key chains and purses

Yelp
This place was on my list for a visit while in Key West. The location is in a little mall of stores that you could easily miss. The inside of the store was a step back in time. Wooden walls and countertops with Sandals on display everywhere and the staff behind the scenes making it all happen. You can see them from the counter making their products in the back. I tried on a few pair (the men's offering pales in comparison to the ladies) and the staff was very helpful with picking out the right size and look. For $21 I was the happy new owner of a locally made, hand stitched and iconic pair of sandals! A simple small business with friendly employees, making a great affordable product!

Yelp
I visit Key West every few months and always walk past Kino Sandals, but never stopped inside until a few days ago. I have always heard great things and now I see why. It's cool to see the sandals being made in the store, and the prices are also great. I bought two pairs of flip flop style sandals in two different colors and I've already worn them both. No pain or blisters like many new shoes cause. I'm happy with my purchase especially since they're flip flops that look kinda dressy (I actually wore a pair to work today with a dress, and no one noticed.)

Yelp
What's wonderful reputation this shop has all around Florida. When a friend heard I was heading to Key West, she asked me to pick up some Kinos. Although I had been to KW before, I never purchased any of these sandals. They are well made on the premises. There are a variety of colors and styles. My husband even bought a pair and he is PICKY about sandals. I ended up getting two pairs for my friend and two pairs for me. I believe each pair was $24 or maybe $25. I have worn both pairs and yes!!! Comfortable!! These are famous!! Go get yourself a pair.
google avatar

Andrea U.

Yelp
Sandals are manufactured and sold right around the corner from sloppy Joe's bar. About 20 different styles in the $20 price range in a few colors. The family has been in business for over 100 years making these sandals by hand. They were comfortable but they just weren't stylish.
google avatar

Sharon M.

Yelp
My puppy chewed up my last pair of Kinos. Fortunately, these sandals are so inexpensive so it was nothing to cry about (except maybe the 9 hour drive to replace them). During this last visit, I tried on the various newer styles but Lily was still the most comfortable. My previous pair (chewed up by the dog) was a Julia and I prefer the Lily hands down. SIZING: I purchased a full size up from my normal size (no half sizes available). PRICE: $18-$22 women & men; $14-$15 kids. You can even add embellishments for a few bucks more ($4?) SELECTION: During my last visit, they were sold out of a few kids sizes which was a disappointment (hence the 4 star instead of 5-Star). I even tied to purchase the next couple sizes up and the only option was 3 sizes bigger! However, I realize the sandals are HANDMADE so I completely understand running out of a few sizes. Kino & his wife left Cuba and started the sandal factory in Key West in 1966 and the business continues on with the 2nd generation. His three children continue the family legacy of hand-crafted, made in the USA leather sandals. Now, they are able to ship sandals so you don't have to wait for your next cruise stop in Key West to try out a pair. I went through the online checkout since I was curious what the shipping rates were - it's $6 for the 1st pair & $3 per additional. Not too bad. However, if you are in the area, I read on their website that you can even watch the sandals being made. Anyway, bottom line, support a local business and you won't great spending the $20 bucks! LOCATION: Look for Kino Plaza on the corner of Green Street and Fitzpatrick Street. I wish I had a bit more time to check out the purses and browse longer but had to get back on the ship before it left without me!

Yelp
So in Key West for the day and showing hubby the must go stops so we beeline into here. One being we were on a cruise and I knew he didn't pack any flip flops. Once inside the same familiar store I fell in love with the starfish ornaments you can add for only an additional four dollars. Well I love starfish but I rightfully thought it was four dollars each shoe but it was for both. This place is beyond affordable and what a great souvenir but a pair that is actually still made in Key West. So hubby got a pair in Navy blue for him and his son. I got four pairs one for me with pink starfish, one for my step son's girlfriend who will be visiting the same thing. Also I ordered a pair with violet stars to my Mother in law in Maine and another to my sister in law in New Hampshire a pair with royal blue stars. At the time of this review they still didn't receive them as they use snail mail here LOL. I am sure they are going to love them as much as I do when they finally get them. Anyway glad to see that they are doing new things. Living in Florida flip flops is a wardrobe staple so I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Well made affordable sandals in the key west area. Family owned and operated business that creates fashionable and comfortable sandals that are built to last through the ages.

Yelp
My bf loves his Kinos and finally talked me into getting a pair when we were in Key West this Christmas. They're pretty durable, very cute, and extremely affordable leather sandals. Can't make it to Key West? Check them out online at KinoSandals.com. Note: This place isn't fancy or touristy ~ very no fuss. It's tucked away down a corridor of businesses downtown but can be easily found using GoogleMaps.

Rebecca K.

Yelp
Love this shop. I live in FL and wear these sandals all year. This is my fourth or fifth time stocking up here on my yearly visit to KW and it's tough to pick just a few pair. Lots of stars for the quality and price of these sandals. Minus one star because they need some friendly help behind the counter. Also- found out this year they do NOT make the purses being sold there. Stick to the sandals!
google avatar

Tina G.

Yelp
Great homemade sandals. Very well priced. Fun colors to choose from and very friendly staff. Cute little store with men women & children sandals.

Yelp
First time at Kino sandals. Love the history of the hard workers. Many choices and colors for all ages. Average price was only about $20. Very comfortable. Husband and I each got a pair or two. Great location.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place. A key West classic and now online. Great customer service and quality shoes.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a very unique small business. Some of our friends introduced us to this company that actually manufactures these sandals right in Key West. They are very reasonably priced considering the quality of the materials.

Yelp
What trip to Key West is complete without a pair of these iconic sandals. Years ago, my mother gave my wife a pair as a gift. She loved them until they wore out a few years later. So, when we decided we were coming down to Key West, I knew I wanted to get her another pair. The shop is actually a factory. The location is very laid back. Every pair is made by hand. Behind the front counter you can watch the employees assemble to sandals. Once the pair is completed, they put them in random cardboard boxes around the front. The boxes were everything from an old Amazon box to Dos Equis. You can select a pair and try them on in store until you get the model and size that you love. I did not realize how affordable these sandals are! For being such an iconic brand, I only paid $20 for their classic pair of ladies sandals. This place is a neat package deal. You get the experience of watching the sandals be made, try them on, and for an affordable price, you can walk out the store with a brand new pair of iconic flops!
google avatar

Shaneel R.

Yelp
Saw this place on channel 6 a few years back and have heard many good things about them so when we stopped here as one of our ports on our transatlantic cruise I knew that we would be going. It's not a huge place but you can easily find them. Jenny helped us at the store and she was cheerful and sweet. I ended up getting two pairs of sandals and they ran $41. They have about 5 colors /3 design for men. Many many selections as far as color and design for woman. Great quality and a excellent price. Enjoy as we are doing at this very moment on our ship.
google avatar

Marybeth A.

Yelp
Absolutely love Kino sandals! So comfy and stylish. Y'all can have your Tory Burch slides, I will keep my Kino's, best made sandals in all of the USA. The location is kind of tucked away but still easy to locate. The A/C isn't too good but your in the keys it's hot either way and I'm sure you had a few cold drinks before stumbling in and buying a pair in every color. You will be alright. If you never been to Key West you must get you a pair.
google avatar

Marco Jose A.

Yelp
Priced right, built to last, current and classic style selections. A must while in The Keys.
google avatar

Shannon F.

Yelp
This place is absolutely amazing. You walk into an open market of sandals. They are making them by hand. I've bought a couple pairs in different travels. I can't wait to be able to order them, again!
google avatar

Harriet W.

Yelp
The sandals are very comfortable. I walked all over Key West in them and my feet didn't hurt. I wish that I had bought another pair since you can only purchase them in town..
google avatar

Tuli S.

Yelp
Fairly priced and cute. My flip flops were 20 and others that are a little nicer cost more. It's taken a little while to break them in but they are quite comfortable now. So far the flip flops are holding up much better than my regular ones!
google avatar

Tara W.

Yelp
We loved being able to walk right into a piece of history. It is very clean and the service is great. Shoe bins are lined up behind the counter full of what is n stock and the countertop displays all the style options. You can find something for women, men, children, big feet, little feet! They also had very cute purses and wallets. We each got a pair of sandals, reasonably priced but exceptionally well made! Def worth the stop!
google avatar

Nicole P.

Yelp
Where else can you get sandals for $17 with Italian leather that are handmade? A staple of locals and those that know. Not available in any shops around key west - just here. Only sold in full sizes. Size up for half sizes. They take credit cards and allow try one.
google avatar

Anna S.

Yelp
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Handmade leather sandals that are amazing! They have been around for many years, since I was a baby, coming to the keys! made right here in the shop. They also expanded their leather line to include purses and dog collars. If you come visit here you have to get a pair!
google avatar

Vicky M.

Yelp
Made in USA!! I ordered these online when I found out about the company in Key West, Fl. Received my sandals and purse so fast on the West Coast! They were perfect and I loved the colors, the handmade qaulity, AND the Prices are so reasonable!!! We need to support our small businesses in the US. You wont be sorry with their products, prices, and story of how they are made and how long the family has been making these - 100 years!!

Megan M.

Yelp
I've been going here since I was a kid. It's just as perfect as I remember it and to my delight I think their sandals look exactly the same.
google avatar

Lindsay G.

Yelp
We make sure to stop here each time we visit the keys. I have several pairs of these sandals and they stand the test if time. At this very moment, I'm wearing a pair I've had a couple years and they still look/feel great! And at approx. $13/pair, you can buy a few!
google avatar

Kristin M.

Yelp
This review is per my Dad who has been buying Kinos since the 70s. He swears that these sandals are the best and most comfortable sandals that he has ever owned. We just went today and purchased two Kinos today and claims that the sandals haven't changed and they are still as great as his first pair and they are inexpensive at anywhere from $13-$20 a pair! If you are in Key West, make it a point to stop by the Kino factory. The factory smells of rubber and you can see the ladies at work making the sandals behind the counter.
google avatar

Duane D.

Yelp
We always make a stop at the Kino Sandal Factory. The sandals (at least the women's shoes) are nice quality at good prices. I'm not sure what is up with the men's shoes. They are just plain ugly... It's fun to buy the shoes here, where others are being made in the background and you buy shoes from empty beer boxes. ;) The Kino Sandal Factory has been in this spot since 1967!
google avatar

Shannon L.

Yelp
I came here on the recommendation of a friend. She said it's the place to go in Key West for some super comfy sandals. I don't usually wear sandals, and when I do, they hurt my feet. I came here and found a pair of cute black sandals and got them customized with a little skull charm. 24 bucks. Great price. I immediately changed shoes and spent the rest of the day walking around in them, and they didn't bother me at all. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
When you're looking for that perfect Key West item that you want to actually use this is place, and I know that tank top you got is pretty sweet too but you won't wear that on a regular basis like I do with my Kinos. On top of all it they're an actual local business that makes the product right in front of you, not another junk filled gift shop with a butt load of items made in the center of the earth by a bunch of gnomes. My sister and I both picked up a pair and after wearing them for a few days we stopped back in before we left to pick up a few pair for our friends.
google avatar

Stephen F.

Yelp
If you're looking for some nice inexpensive sandals, then this is the place. No fancy labels but a quality leather sandal. It's normally going to be busy and on the verge of crazy, but if you can walk out with a nice pair of sandals for less than $20.00, it's worht it. Check out the cigar shop just a few doors down while you're there.
google avatar

Andy B.

Yelp
Another trip to Key West and another mandatory stop at the Kino Factory! Still the best sandals around and part of Florida history. I have been wearing Kinos since the 80s (they cost around $8 then) but still really affordable at $20 now. They last for years as well and I think they get more comfortable as they get broken in. The store is also the factory and it hasn't changed much in many years. Still hot as hell in there as I don't think they have a/c and you can watch them making them as you wait. The sandals are arranged by the styles and colors that are available at the time. Sometimes they change. They have bins and you can try them on to get the correct size. They haven't changed much with the times which I think is part of the charm and will mail you your sandals with the regular post office. (But I did notice they now have a website and are on Facebook.)
google avatar

K A.

Yelp
Checking it out due to friend reference. Nice place but just don't have styles that appeal to my taste.

Willow B.

Yelp
Warning: If you have wide feet it is a NO GO! I asked the staff for help finding a sandal for a wide foot and she basically ignored me. I was excited to try on these sandals and was so disappointed.

Denise L.

Yelp
Every time I'm in Key West I buy another pair. They are very comfortable and require no break in time. Hand made only in Key West. Affordable. Adorable. Can't wait to go back.

Hillary B.

Yelp
Super fun place! So glad I got an awesome, comfy, cute pair of sandals that you can't get anywhere else!!!
google avatar

Krista M.

Yelp
Love the variety, really nice and comfortable sandals at a good price. Hand made everything! This is pretty unique!

Yelp
Great value for sandals. Love the local business feel. Plan on going back next time we are in town. Truly a hidden treasure in Key West.
