Kismező - Hungarian Cuisine

The quality of the food alone would be reason enough to come back. Every dish was top-tier: deeply flavorful, beautifully executed, and an outstanding introduction to Hungarian cuisine. The service was amazing. Hungarian cuisine can be unique if you’re not familiar with it, and they take the time to truly explain the menu, the ingredients, and the dishes. A special mention to Dorina, who took care of us: professional, warm and attentive. Her wine recommendations were spot on, perfectly matched to the dishes. Ten out of ten. Price was surprisingly well balanced with the quality and not expensive, especially considering it’s located in one of the most exclusive areas of the city. Also, the restaurant is superbly located on "Budapest’s Broadway", right next to the Opera.

The food was wonderful and elevated with a modern spin on traditional Hungarian cuisine. You could see the love to detail. The meat was incredibly tender - 10/10. The only downsides could be the smaller portion sizes for some people who are used to more generous portions and obviously the price which is not on the low side. Yet you can easily notice the quality of everything you see and try there.

One of the best restaurants you can go to in Budapest. Incredible food and a wonderful atmosphere. All the staff are extremely polite and helpful. I definitely recommend it.

Looking for FANTASTIC HUNGARIAN FOOD?? Kismező is for you! I had my best meal in Budapest here! It is difficult to find a place that did not succumb to the touristic taste and provides a wide-array of truly Hungarian dishes. Kismező is here to counterbalance this trend and you should definitely experience it! Csabi, my host, was very helpful, kind, and very accommodating with my timeframe since I had a ballet performance to attend. Chef Márton has definitely proven his qualities in this place! My starter was an incredible game tartare, potato pavé, and truffle. It came with toasts and it is meant to be eaten in spreadable manner with toasts and with the garnish. Speaking of it, the garnish was indeed part of the dish, adding a great deal of texture and flavor profile. The main course was a cooked-to-perfection venison stake with potato dumplings, caramelized onions, and blueberry. This is by far the best venison I have ever eaten! And when I say it was cooked to perfection, trust me and check the photos: slightly roasted in the outside but displaying the impeccably correct shade of pink in the inside. The flavors blended similarly to a great orchestra coming together to sound like one! To complete this perfect match, they offer you the right choice of wine. Please trust them. The leather-profiled, full-bodied, and thick-textured choice was PERFECT for this meal! The environment is also great! They have a glass area that gives you the option to be outdoors without the inconveniences of a bad weather and people smoking next to you. Reservations are encouraged but not necessary. If you are going to a concert nearby, this is the best pre-concert spot due to its close distance to the venues and, of course, the fabulous food, atmosphere, and service! Enjoy this delicious taste of Hungarian cuisine!!!

The goulash is made in the traditional style and has a nice thicker consistency - very satisfying. The meat is very tender. Recommend to try with some of the Hungarian chilli paste. Levi was our waiter and was super helpful in explaining the dishes and very generous in sharing tips for where to get ingredients to take back as souvenirs as well as short visits near Budapest. Highly recommend for any trip to Budapest.

An Absolute Gem in Budapest After several disappointing restaurant experiences in Budapest, just when we started wondering if this country was simply unfriendly, we discovered this truly exceptional restaurant — and it completely changed our perspective. Everything here was outstanding: the food, the service, and especially the warm, genuine hospitality. Every detail made our time here not only enjoyable but genuinely memorable. The dishes were prepared with an incredible level of professionalism easily Michelin-star quality. If I were to return to this country, it would honestly be just for this restaurant alone. A must-visit place that restores your faith in great dining experiences. Highly, highly recommended.

We had an amazing experience at Kismező!!!! David, Ben and Levi have been the best serving staff we have ever experienced!!!! Their kindness, service and knowledge of the Hungarian culture have made our dining experience extra special. The food and recommended drinks with the meals were amazing!!!!! We would highly recommend this restaurant!

Lovely traditional Hungarian food. The staff are excellent we really enjoyed our experience with Levi he gave us recommendations and looked after us considering we had never tried Hungarian food before. Great authentic place in the city!
