Hostile store environment. Absolutely ridiculous experience!
I bought a cup of ice cream from the ice cream stand inside the store. I was standing in the designated ice cream area, eating my ice cream, while waiting for my friend who was in the fitting room.
A store staff member came up to me and told me I could not go into the shopping area. I calmly explained that I was not planning to go into the shopping area at all—I was simply waiting for my friend. He walked away.
About five minutes later, I briefly looked toward the shopping area to see if my friend was done. The same staff member immediately came back and told me again that I could not cross the line into the shopping area.
At this point, it was beyond ridiculous! The entire time, I stayed in the ice cream area. I did not walk down the stairs. I did not enter the shopping area. I didn’t even come close. So I asked him where exactly this “line” was. He pointed to an area right by the door, essentially right next to the ice cream stand itself.
I understand that stores may not want customers bringing drinks or ice cream into areas with clothing. That makes sense. Spills happen. But I never stepped into the shopping area, not even once.
If the store does not allow drinks or ice cream INSIDE the building, then why on earth is there an ice cream shop inside the store to begin with?
This interaction was unnecessary, uncomfortable, and frankly hostile. Completely unacceptable!
