Definitely getting off the main hwy to go back in time for a very tasty burger and more. Our burgers were seasoned perfectly and juicy. And the nachos made a great snack. Todd the owner was so friendly and served us our meals. Would love to go back when they finish remodeling the restaurant but until then the food truck is great.

Diners are my favorite restaurant hang outs. It’s where the locals hang, the food is home cooked, the staff of locals add the right amount of color to an already colorful style of restaurant. Breakfast is my favorite meal, and the diner is the perfect place to get that tummy filled. I’ve been driving across the US for a month and stopping at any diner that is in the vicinity of my nights stay. Well this diner was not in my area but we were driving past it about an hour up the road. And it was well worth the house drive. Kix on 66 is a piece of historic RT 66 nostalgia. With everything in the diner giving you a place back in time. Even the counter chairs are from the 50’s it seems. We came in around 10:30 and the place had a few tables full and a few locals at the bar. While we were waiting for our order to come out, a few local law enforcement came in to eat. Now you know that if the local law officers eat there, it’s got to be good. I ordered the French Toast platter with scrambled eggs and crispy bacon, and it came out to perfect, the table also had the “Running Burrito” again it was delicious. We also ordered 2 iced espresso drinks, which were large, cold and tasty. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We picked up a lapel pin that was their logo Kix66, they also have mugs and other RT66 souvenirs. Driving historic RT66 / I40, take a breakfast break at this diner, you will feel right at home, and back in time. You’ll get your Kix on 66

Google
A small town cafe with good home cooking. We had breakfast. I had eggs and sausage. It’s homemade and may be the best I’ve had! My wife liked the breakfast burrito. The town is pretty quiet so it’s a nice spot to stop for night

The woman serving us was very nice and checked in on us often, even offered us some more coffee with the brewer in hand. Food was good, not my taste as an Asian but definitely would recommend for anyone wanting some traditional/classic American breakfast- eggs/omelet and toast with bacon. Bunch of beverage options too and some nice dessert. I tried the coconut meringue but it was alright, for some reason I was expecting it to be more crunchy/harder like traditional baked meringue but I should've known better. Overall pretty cheap for a new yorker and definitely seems like authentic New Mexican style- esp with the atmosphere. Also some souvenirs you can buy at the store.

Food was delicious, price was reasonable and waitress, Deb, was a dear lady and very good at her job. Very cool diner feel to the place.

Google
This has to be one of the kindest, most hardworking restaurant staffs in America. We came in close to closing time and they welcomed us with open arms. The service was friendly, the food was yummy, and what stood out the most was the kind words exchanged by the kitchen staff to the FOH staff through the expo window. It had a retro, diner vibe and the atmosphere felt straight out of a movie set! Thank you

Google
Great stop on our way to White Sands from home! We visited on 3/23/25. Such a cute little diner, everything was delicious and just what we needed to get some energy to get back on the road again. 100% will be back!

Google
We were driving from Winslow, AZ to Dallas TX and stayed in Tucumcari for a night, we looked for near by brunch place and found this restaurant with the good reviews. We ordered jalapeño omelet with chicken and Tucumcari mountain taters, everything was fresh and delicious! Service was excellent and they got our food on table in 5-10 mins even though restaurant was busy.

Yelp
Fantastic food and service. Stopped in for breakfast and got a treat of bfast burrito smothered in their homemade green sauce with chips and salsa. Definitely will be back!

Yelp
Passing throug, got gas and noticed it was packed. Stopped and sat at the bar. Busy but got served right away with menu and drink. Took my order and food was placed in front of me pretty soon. Sat in front of the kitchen and it was a hot bed of cooks getting orders out. Ambiance is playing up the Route 66 with old license plates and souvenirs. Clean and well run. Would hit it again!!

Yelp
Wow! Best roadside stop, such a unique atmosphere and delicious diner food! We had cheeseburgers and waffle fries. Superb! The waitress was great, attentive and helpful. We also had to try the dessert cakes, yum!!! Do yourself a favor and stop by. The owner is wonderful! Will bookmark to stop again!

Yelp
Food was delicious and the staff was friendly and fast! Fun atmosphere reminiscent of days in the past. Get a cinnamon roll!

Yelp
Went in for a Valentine's day dinner with my wife. She ordered a salad. And a few minutes of eating it backed apparent that there was a lot of brown lettuce. She stopped eating it, told the waitress. She wouldn't eat anything else from there after that. No offer to remove from our bill. The salsa is canned tomato puree. Just not a good place to eat. Post comment edit. The salad in the pictures was 80% unfinished. Did not eat more. I did say we would pay as to not appear to be trying to get something for free. There was no mention of the owner. Your replies to all negative reviews indicate that you cant take constructive criticism. I will post on every avenue available and hope many people see the truth. And your salsa is an absolute joke. I can tell the taste of canned tomatoes, these were canned tomatoes.

Yelp
66 Themed retro diner. A bit too warm for me. nice hometown-style service, food came out fast and with a bit of attitude from the cook (which added color). Good diner-style burger and fries. Lots to look at but a little worn down too.

Yelp
Like many others, we stopped in during our route 66 trip. It is PERFECT for people doing the trip and in that headspace because it is full on route 66 vibes with the decor and vibe. The service was great. The place only had a few other tables in at the time of our visit which was in the late afternoon, but we were tended to immediately. I ordered a grilled cheese with chilies (NM vibe, you understand) and GF the green chili cheeseburger. After ordering, our server asked, "regular fries, waffles fries, sweet potato fries?" and we both answered with our choice. The food came within a reasonable amount of time. The bread of my grilled cheese was toasted perfectly. The cheese was gooey, and the chilies went really well. I selected just regular, run of the mill fries and they were pretty good. Regarding the chili cheeseburger, GF says, "it was very heavy". Reasonable prices, prompt service, minimal waiting, great campy decor made for a great experience. They even have this thing where you can scan a qr code on the check and pay via a phone on your app, which is awesome. I can't believe the literal only place that I have done this is in a diner on route 66. Anyway, I did notice that they charged us extra for a fries. The prices were very reasonable to begin with and it isn't like it was a lot of money, but it is just the principle that if something has an extra change, you don't offer it as if it comes with the meal you are ordering. Something should have been said like, for example, "do you want fries or waffle fries for x extra?" I felt a little bit shaken down.

Yelp
On a Sunday, it was well worth the wait. We sat at the counter and the kitchen staff were very entertaining. The atmosphere is fun and our waitress was great even under pressure.

Yelp
Small portions & no flavor. We were seated but the food wasn't tasty.......we won't me coming back or visiting

Yelp
We arrived in Tucumcari at dinner time and looked for a place we could get carry-out vegetarian food. Kix on 66 popped up. They don't have an on-line ordering system, but we were staying nearby and just drove over to place our order. As others have mentioned, Kix is decorated like one would expect a Route 66 diner to be. The staff was friendly, and there is a good selection of food. I ordered the cheese omelette with hash browns, and my partner (omnivore) got a turkey sandwich served on toast with a side of chips. The restaurant packaged our food well and provided utensils. The food itself was good. We'd stop here again on our way through town.

Yelp
One of the few places to eat that's open on Sunday evening in this town. Get in early cuz it gets loaded up with hungry customers. Best thing here is the bakery display case, so many tempting cakes. We picked up a slice of Lemon Italian Cream cake to enjoy while on the road. Wide variety of menu items from traditional American food to Mexican favorites. The chile rellenos were pretty good and I recommend getting both red and green sauces. Walkable from the better motels on the road.

Yelp
Good food , nice waitresses, love the Route 66 decor ! Also has nice souvenirs to choose from. I definitely want to come back in 2026 ! Route 66 anniversary

Yelp
What a fun place! We stopped for breakfast. The food was delicious and service was friendly. We did not order pankix, even though they were recommended!
google avatar

Yelp
Whenever we drive thru from Kansas city to El Paso (home) we usually do penny's diner but I wanted to try this place. Hands down very good. I had the chili burger with hand cut fries & hubs has the chili rellenos. Very good. The rellenos plate is big enough to feed 2 if you're not that hungry...definitely get the homemade carrot cake made by the owner. She's very nice.

Mary C.

Yelp
I ordered the Mound of Potatoes and asked for sausage to be added. After a few bites I told the server (who was really nice and listened, (Samantha) that they forgot the sausage. They made another plate but this time put the sausage just underneath the topped eggs; so for $2.99 I got about a Tablespoon of sausage! I would have ordered the patties 2 for $4.49 if I had known that the sausage was put on as a condiment! I addressed the owner and my advice was to put the description of the sausage; which he said was a handful; that is their measurement! Not worth it. We are locals and have frequented this business but no more. Their quantity has been reduced since they first opened.

Yelp
Cute little diner with delicious food! I had the Christmas sauce on the huevos rancheros and it was DELICIOUS!

Yelp
I've been through Tucumcari numerous times, but had only been to businesses along Route 40. This time my wife and I decided to go down the Route 40 business route which is also Route 66. We stopped at Kix and were not disappointed. We were seated and served by one of the owners, while the other owner was our cook. We learned the current owners have been on business since April of 2023, after retiring from the trucking industry. The service was beyond top notch. My wife and I both ordered the Chicken Tortilla Soup, and the Grilled Cheese with Hatch Chilies and fries. The soup had a chili flavor to it and was very good. The grilled cheese sandwiches were off the chart great and I could I eat this several times a week. The fries were also very good, better than most. This is truly a mom and pops business with great food and you must go in there and support them. Do it now!!

Yelp
Been stopping here for years and finally decided to write a review. This is our go-to place for breakfast when driving to or from Texas. The food is always great and we have tried lots of things over the years. The service is impeccable - unless the place is mobbed which it often is because the food is so good. Good combination of booths and counter seating give you the choice. Now all I have to do is figure out how to time my return home to permit another breakfast. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Super fun diner in Tucumcari! I had the Chicken Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy. It was delicious! The chicken was tender and juicy. The batter was light and flavorful. Staff was friendly and service was good. Make sure you check out their bakery counter, they looked delicious!

Susan G.

Yelp
We stopped in for breakfast while on a long road trip. The staff were all very friendly and efficient - very busy but took good care of everyone. The food was wonderful - including the homemade sausage patty - YUM. We left full and happy.

Tim R.

Yelp
Nice diner. Great burger. The fries were excellent. Get a shake. Perfect texture and taste. The Mexican combo plate was just okay. Ground beef in the enchilada. But the taco was delicious.
google avatar

Kieren C.

Yelp
The inside of the diner is cute and kitchsy. It feels right for Route 66. They have a bakery case full of homemade cakes and cheesecakes that look like a million bucks. We tried the blueberry lemon and a chocolate chip one. Both were good, though a touch on the dry side. The food itself was typical diner food. Portions were average, if not on the small side. My French dip had sliced beef, but no cheese. Just bread, meat, and au jus. That was a little weird. The onion rings were great! Fries were okay. Burger was fine. Nothing to write home about, but friendly, efficient service. Update: I removed my paragraph about the town being depressed and isolated. The town shouldn't have any bearing on the diner. I didn't see the whole town, such as the museums, but I stand by the fact that the historic Route 66 portion is lined with shuttered and run-down businesses. Also, I should've read the menu more carefully. I'll keep that in mind next time I order a French dip.
google avatar

Norma L.

Yelp
It's a breakfast diner that opens early. It is very convenient for the traveler who wants to get an early start. The waitress is friendly, and the coffee was hot and plentiful. It is too bad their cook was in such a hurry to cook our breakfast. Our French toast was raw, and so was the bacon. Doubt we'll stop in here to eat again.
google avatar

Melissa H.

Yelp
The service was top notch. We were welcomed and seated promptly. The food was delicious. My husband has the smothered burrito and I had the smothered hash browns. Portions were large.

Margaret M.

Yelp
We stopped here on a long road road trip specifically because we wanted to support small businesses in the area. Unfortunately, we received the worst service of either my husband and I's memory. First, the waitress comes by to take our drink order and my husband was in the restroom. No problem, he told me what we wanted before he left so I place the drink order. Then a party that was waiting to be seated when he went to the restroom was sat, ordered and got their food before the waitress even came back to take our order or deliver our drinks. The waitress had the audacity to blame the poor service on my husband using the restroom, would imagine lots of people stop after driving hundreds of miles... My drink was made wrong (I don't think it's unreasonable to not want ice in my water) and our meal was delivered cold. The group that was seated well after us finished their meal before our food was delivered. We watched it sit in the pickup window so long we were on the verge of walking out. Should have just went and made a sandwich. It wasn't worth the price of the meal cold. I have a lot of patience and compassion, but this level of service is unacceptable when someone has all of 5 small tables they are handling. Could also tell it wasn't a one off by the way the kitchen staff repeatedly and frustratedly yelled for pickup of our meal. Really disappointing, as we're always looking for cool local businesses to be repeat customers for and although the vibe was amazing we'll never stop here again.
google avatar

Matt D.

Yelp
It was ok. Got a lighter burger and it was nothing special. Probably wouldn't get it again. Prices were ok but a bit high.
google avatar

Yelp
If you are looking for a delicious diner with something for everyone, this is your place. Located on the Historic Route 66 and across from the Roadrunner Lodge, this classic diner serves a delicious breakfast to start your day. Their morning menu had the beat breakfast names. Everyone ordered something from here. We were there early on a Sunday since we were driving out and it wasn't crowded. But the crowds did pick up by 8am. Skip the big chains and support local business!
google avatar

J N.

Yelp
We had Spectacular & personable service. Great food options. Loved the vibe/decor and super convenient to our overnight stay at Roadrunner Lodge! We will be back on our trips through!
google avatar

RL F.

Yelp
The 3rd time we have been there, food is still top notch h the service is above and beyond. Everyone is super friendly. The style is retro and always a delight...the food though the food is amazing
google avatar

Jane A.

Yelp
If you leave hungry, it's your own fault!!! Biscuits and gravy platter is enough to share, the bacon is some of the best I've EVER had, Denver omelette was stuffed full of goodies. The smothered tater tots with green chiles, cream gravy and cheese was to die for! The family loves a good diner and this definitely checked the boxes for classic diner off for us! We will be back next time we drive out that way!
google avatar

Yelp
In the town of Tucumcari (think Disney Cars movie) is the cutest cafe. Stopped for breakfast. Let me tell you the menu items were super yummy. I had the breakfast quesadilla with "Christmas" sauce (red and green). So good. Just the right amount of heat.

Julie J.

Yelp
We walked here from our motel while watching the sun rise. We were the only customers when we got there. The service was very fast and friendly. We ordered the smothered burrito and the mountain of taters. The serving sizes were huge! Nice amount of spice, but not unbearable at all. I added homemade sausage to my mountain of taters, but was disappointed to see that there wasn't much sausage at all. We are foodies, so I'd give the overall food 3.5-4 stars out of 5. We would eat here again.

Catherine W.

Yelp
Who doesn't like to walk down memory lane? This restaurant was on Route 66 with the decor to match. The waitress was friendly and efficient and the food was good!

A P.

Yelp
Great diner on Route 66! Food was very good and fresh. Breakfast at nearby tables looked great too!
google avatar

Barbara W.

Yelp
The service was awful. The Server had a terrible attitude when ask about the bread that was missing from my meal and the chips that were missing from my husband's fajitas, it was oh well, we're busy.Do you want them now? It was clearly obvious that we were more than halfway done with our meal, and I was really just pointing out that she had not brought everything. I cannot recommend this place at all for the service. If for no other reason. I simply wanted to exchange my potato for the vegetable of the day and I was told I couldn't no substitutions, but yet I saw someone else do exactly that with a different server.
google avatar

Susan S.

Yelp
We love to support small businesses and we were anxious to try Kix on Rt. 66 on our recent trip through Tucumcari. Reviews were good but we were disappointed. The waitress was great - extremely friendly and kind, but we were not happy with our food or the prices. My green chili relleno omelet had a chili inside that was tough that I could not cut through, let alone chew. That omelet was $12.99. Bread and hashbrowns came with it. My bread choice was biscuit. I was asked if I wanted sausage gravy with that - yes. Green Chili sauce - yes. I was not told there was $1.50 upcharge for the gravy, also $1.50 for the sausage bits in it, AND $1.50 extra to put green chili sauce on the omelet. Wow. $17.99. May have been okay - but the biscuits were small - tasted as it they came in a can. Green chili sauce was thin, not tasty or spicy. The gravy very small - a couple of tablespoons - then extra for sausage crumbles in it?? Not cool and not very tasty besides. Perhaps they were out of biscuits?? An off day?? So I returned the green chili relleno omelet and asked for a bacon omelet. This omelet was fine, nothing special but should have cost less than the relleno omelet which was the most expensive one on the menu. But no, there was not any compensation whatsoever - paid the full $17.99 for what to me was an overpriced and not very tasty breakfast.
google avatar

Michelle H.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this little restaurant on Historic Rt 66. It has such wonderful fun atmosphere! The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was good and reasonably priced. Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Cynthia T.

Yelp
These are just about the nicest people you could encounter - friendly, very attentive and helpful. But there needs to be a new chef. My husband got a salad with old lettuce and his fried shrimp was rubbery. I ordered enchiladas and they were not good. The flavor came from chili powder but I could not taste anything else that usually makes enchiladas taste savory, like cumin, onion and other ingredients. I ordered cheese but got chicken, which was too dry. If we ever went back I would order breakfast food, and based on other reviews, it would be good. But we are just passing through so this may be it for us forever.
google avatar

Carla S.

Yelp
I'm guessing food quality has only recently declined here considering all of these glowing reviews. But there are definitely corners being cut now.. Biscuits came hard and inedible, not fresh. White gravy was awful, thin and tasted like milk. Chorizo was dry. One hash brown nearly burnt. My $13 omelet had very little avocado, which was also hard and unripe. Server forgot a side hash brown until our meal was nearly over (it was oily but much better this time). I don't even think the green hatch chile sauce was fresh. It tasted canned. I enjoy old Route 66 diners like this one, and I'm glad they're alive & kicking. But they gotta do better than this.
google avatar

Susan R.

Yelp
This place was so great! We stopped in for a late breakfast while driving from Amarillo to Albuquerque. Very friendly service with a cool diner vibe. And all the food was fantastic. I tried the grits and the biscuits with sausage gravy along with my egg/sausage scramble, and my husband had chorizo and eggs. We also shared a pancake, which both of us agreed was one of the best we had ever had. Highly recommend!!!
google avatar

Roy L.

Yelp
This place is great. The food is outstanding, the chocolate shake was maybe the best I've had and the service was good. The prices are very reasonable. I have no negatives for this nostalgic diner. We were on a road trip and went to Tucumcari to visit the Route 66 museum only to find it was closed and this was the first place we came across when leaving town. I'm glad we found it. If I am ever out that way again I will stop here again.
google avatar

Rex H.

Yelp
We wanted an authentic Route 66 diner experience. This was it! Food and service were GREAT.
google avatar

Dan W.

Yelp
Stopped for breakfast on Father's Day. The restaurant was slammed, but we managed to get seating and waited patiently. I'm very glad we did! My wife and I, following our normal custom, split a single breakfast. We chose biscuits with sausage gravy, hash browns, bacon and eggs over easy. If you are from Albuquerque and expect a Weck's portion of hash browns, you will be disappointed. We however were quite happy with the reduced pile of potatoes. Less to be thrown away for us. The eggs were perfect, the bacon tasty, but I thought the star of the dish was the sausage used in the gravy. It was a taste I don't encounter often, and it wasn't overpowering at all. Possibly a light dusting of sage? Regardless, it made a delightful gravy which paired well with their buttermilk biscuits. Next time we head through, we will certainly stop again.
google avatar

Rebecca H.

Yelp
Ok, I rarely leave reviews but if I do, it's only because it was extremely poor or over the top excellent. Thankfully this place was over the top excellent. We pulled off the road wanting ice cream and ended up here for their shakes and some fries. We ended up getting the had rolled chili renos and a burglar with fries and a shake. The place was impeccably clean. We sat at the bar and the staff was very friendly. It wasn't busy and the cooks began to sing in the kitchen. The owner told them not to sing karaoke but i said i didn't mind. Sing on. They brought out some chips and salsa which was obviously freshly made. When the plate of fries came out, it was obvious to me they were hand cut. All the food was fresh, made in house and to order. The prices were modest but Nick the cook, had a vibe happening, the entire staff were friendly, funny and excelled in service. This is what a restaurant should be. The owner, who says he's never been in the restaurant business is slaying it. Good luck to them. I hope this place stays open for a long time. We will be stopping every time we're through here and I will be telling all my friends. This is a must for highway 66 travelers or i40 goers. We can not wait to come back! This place made our day!

Yelp
The food was great! The service was so friendly and the cook was hilarious! Very laid back. Santana on the radio at one point. Lovely time. Would recommend!

Yelp
Stopped in after leaving safari inn nostalgic restaurant nice staff don't recommend grits but they have awesome chorizo

Yelp
Another great breakfast spot a few miles off of INT 40 on historic Route 66. Excellent and pleasant service. The menu is full of choices.Delicious breakfast quesadilla was a great choice. Take the time to stop.

Yelp
I was visiting from Ca and searching for a southern breakfast. This restaurant was the best! Everything I ordered was full of flavor. The biscuit was the best i've ever eaten. The grits were creamy and cooked perfectly. The staff were so friendly and the owner even introduced me to his wife and the cook. Very sweet place with exceptional food.

Linda C.

Yelp
The friendly service of this place almost overrides the so-so food. Being on the road so long and "hunting" down a place of reprieve, to enjoy a meal is hard work in this area but the greeting we received and service we received fed our weary souls as well. Prices were reasonable but, for us, the menu could use some work.
