Klaus K Hotel

"Once a drab business hotel, this reborn property near the Esplanade now has a snappy name, friendly staff, and a chic late-night bar. The 137 rooms are classified by size—Mystical, Passion, Desire, and Envy, with Mystical being the smallest and Envy the largest. All have retro floor lamps, a muted color palette enlivened by bold wallpaper, and minibars stocked with Finnish beer and vodka. The decor in public spaces was inspired by Finnish folklore, thankfully with no trace of whimsy. New York–based chef Marcus Samuelsson consulted on the menu in the main restaurant, Ilmatar; the tin-ceilinged Italian eatery, Toscanini, serves excellent rabbit pappardelle. If you fancy a $20 reindeer burger, try the casual Filmitähti. The hotel connects directly to the Helsinki Day Spa next door."

Klaus K is a nice hotel right in the centre of town. The room was quite large and had everything I needed. It was in a typical design style, so you can certainly book this place if you love that. Breakfast was plenty, and there is a nice rooftop bar. Staff was friendly and helpful, also during check-out. I would certainly recommend this hotel!

My stay at K Klaus was wonderful. The room was comfortable and spacious. The breakfast buffet had many vegan dishes clearly marked. Even the rooftop bar and the Italian restaurant attached had delicious vegan options. I had a wonderful time.

Klaus K was such a great hotel. The staff was very helpful and kind. It was centrally located, with a tram stop right outside, and many terrific parts of Helsinki a short walk away. There are several great cafes in the area as well. The only slight drawback was that the elevators only sometimes would bring you to the lowest floor without needing a small staircase--normally not a problem, but I'd hurt my foot so stairs were a bit trickier than they would be otherwise. However, otherwise it was clean, accessible, welcoming, and affordable, and I would gladly continue to stay here when I return to Helsinki.

I arrived at 6 AM and the lady at the desk was very nice. She offered me coffee (since I couldn't check in for another 9 hours or so) and we talked about what to do in Helsinki for about an hour. She took out a map and showed me how to get around, etc. They had a place I could hangout and even took a small nap until my room was ready. For the cost, the room was fine, a little small, but again for the cost it was fine (I was traveling alone, for two people probably too small). The breakfast was good with good selections of food to pick from. Everything was walkable or you were right next to a tram stop. The staff were able to explain how the tram works and had a ticket I could buy at the desk which was very convenient. I feel like I got more than what I paid for, not by much, but it was prefect for what I needed.

Great hotel in an excellent location. We had the mini room which has a smaller bed (probably 75% the width of the normal double bed), but the website is transparent about that and for the money it's excellent. Very clean, lovely reception staff, good breakfast and just a great hotel all round.

Located in an excellent location with trams right outside. There are great restaurants nearby, and the restaurants in the hotel are good for a cheaper option. Breakfast was good every day with lots of choice. I stayed in one of the smallest rooms, and it was fine if dark (the window had no direct sunlight). The staff are friendly and good the their jobs.

I had a fantastic stay at KlausK in Helsinki. I was lucky to get a room facing the courtyard. It was really quiet and clean, and now I'm emotionally attached to their pillows and bed. The staff was friendly and professional, always ready to help with anything we needed. Breakfast was varied and delicious, with plenty of local options. I also appreciated the attention to detail and the overall atmosphere. I would definitely recommend Klaus K for both business and leisure travelers. The location is great, right in the heart of the city, close to all the shops. Stockmann is just a 5-minute walk away, there are plenty of nice restaurants nearby, and a tram stop just steps from the entrance. Looking forward to staying here again on my next trip to Helsinki!

Great place value for the money. Walking distance in Helsinki downtown and all important night life actions. Great breakfast. Room for me was a bit small, however nice layout and accessories. Recommend!

Yelp
Had a wonderful time at this well run hotel in the heart of Helsinki. Loved the area it was In, walkable to a lot of the town. Service on entry was prompt, plus they had my room ready before check in time which was fantastic. Love when that happens. It's a small check in area, but serves the purpose, also loved all the amenities they provided at the desk for your stay, toiletries, slippers, water, even free ice cream/popsicles! They provided a full breakfast with my room, which was again fantastic. My room was roomy with a nice bed, all the things I needed, hairdryer, iron, safe, great bathroom. Everything worked! One of the biggest rooms I've stayed in Europe. The breakfast was amazing, so much variety, great fresh bread, coffee, hot breakfast, pastries, fruit. Way too much to eat! Super clean as well. They have a nice Italian restraint attached too, I had the best Affagato here. They have a small bar area by the reception, they have wine , beer and cocktails, and they let me watch the euro soccer finals here ! Great little place as I didn't want to Goto a crowded bar. Loved I could walk everywhere, and was close to the train station for getting to and from the airport. Great hotel, great price, great service!

Yelp
Used to stay hear all the time when I was in town for work as it used to be part of the Marriott program. Unfortunately, they have left, but it is a nice hotel in a great location. The rooms are a bit older and tighter spaced than other hotels Ives stayed at since moving around a bit in the city. However the staff and breakfast are top notch. I remember smelling the fresh baked bread early I. The morning to start the day was always a treat.

Yelp
Great hotel. Directly outside a trolley stop, and walking distance (about 10 minutes) to market square and the waterfront. Rooms are quiet and clean, and the breakfast buffet was excellent. My only complaints were that the gym seemed a little run down given the otherwise high quality of the hotel, and the blinds in my room didn't completely cover the windows, which wasn't a big problem as I was visiting in the fall, but could be very annoying during the long sunny summers. I was genuinely surprised that the room didn't have proper black out curtains. Everything else about my stay was great, though, and I would definitely stay at this hotel again given the opportunity.

Yelp
This hotel is in a great location, close to everything and the tram stop to take you to the ferry to Estonia. It's also about a 10-15 minute walk to get to the Ferry to Suomenlinna. It also seemed to be the preferred hotel for business travelers as there were a lot of them in the dining area in the morning. There is a nice Italian restaurant on the ground floor that seemed to be busy nightly and a Michelin Star restaurant next door (Boulevard Social, I highly recommend it) We stayed in the Envy King and was perfect for my husband and I and our 4 year old. They provided a twin sized cot for him to sleep next to us. I loved the large windows, you can sit in them and daydream about the hustle and bustle of city life on the other side of the glass pane. The staff is warm and friendly, they made wonderful recommendations of how to get around town and things to do! Our room overlooked the street and down towards the park, I could even see Louis Vuitton and it was beautiful watching the snow fall and people watch. The hotel is in proximity to a convenient store, so we were able to get some snacks for midnight munching for our little guy. The refrigerator was quite small so it was difficult to put more than a handful of things in it. The only minor complaint I would have was that the tram is very loud at night, so I found myself waking up a couple of nights, that says a lot since I live in a big city! The water pressure in the showers were wonderful, definitely a great retreat from walking all around the city. While the bathroom was a bit small, it served us well. The breakfast was out of this world, the presentation was superb and the offerings were all sourced locally, indicated on their label- which I loved. The buffet ranged from pickled herring, smoked salmon to boil and scrambled eggs, Finnish sausage, bacon, porridge, freshly squeezed fruit juices along with tea, coffee and pastries. I had to stop myself from gracing on everything! It was certainly a wonderful start to our day! I would definitely recommend staying here if you are ever visiting Helsinki!

Yelp
This is a wonderful hotel, right in the heart of Helsinki. Each room has a different theme, based on the Finnish folk lore KALEVALA. Also, each room has been designed by a different designer. How's that for attention to detail. The room prices are very decent for the high quality of the hotel. There's cute little design elements all over this beautiful hotel. Tom of Finland makes an appearance right near the check in ;) There's a Italian restaurant attached to the hotel but since you are smack in the middle of Helsinki, you are a walking distance to everything! Excellent stay and will be returning here for sure!

Yelp
I've started to explore different hotel in Helsinki and took on a recommendation to stay at the Klaus K, a a design hotel, an affiliation of the Starwood brand, and a sister hotel to the sublime Kamp. Although a 4 star hotel, it is by no meant comparable to the Kamp when it comes to services and luxury. However, it has some pluses that I will return to this gem. 1. Rooms are modern, efficient and hip. As a lifetime SPG Platinum, I was upgraded to a Loft room which is a large studio with skylights that are cherished for the Finnish winter. The loft room also gives you a very discreet private entrance at the street level, which you by pass the lobby. This is a very nice thought. 2. Price. Very reasonable and the location makes this place ideal. My stay was about 150 euros/night. 3. Common area. Lots of common area. The loft gives you access to the roof lounge, similar to an executive lounge but only coffee/tee as amenities. The roof lounge also has a terrace overlooking the city. 4. Breakfast. Simple but high quality ingredient. The best part is the wonderful homemade bread. I'm a bread snob and the bread here rivals some of the best bakery in Paris!

Yelp
First the good: The staff are wonderful. They are helpful and quick to get things done. The beds are comfortable. Onto the rest.... Don't stay in room 306. It's dark, like a bunker. Turn on all the lights and open the windows the size of your nightstand, it doesn't matter. It's clear this room is all about style and not functionality. Despite being a room on the third floor, it feels like a basement bedroom. Test everything before the bellhop leaves, because learning that your bathroom light doesn't work or waking up to discover your phone didn't charge overnight is annoying, but even more so once you're unpacked and can't easily change rooms. The maintenance staff should be doing preemptive checks of rooms, not waiting for complaints. I was looking forward to the breakfast buffet, because the desk staff raved about it when we checked in. Hands down, the most lackluster buffet I've seen outside of a Holiday Inn Express. The butter is fantastic. That's the best thing I can say about the limited options. This hotel is what I refer to as "all sizzle and no steak". It's pretty and artful, but it lacks the ability to get anything done. I misplaced my gloves and couldn't find them for twenty minutes, because the room is so dark. I'm glad I'm here on holiday for one night and not here for work for a week. I'd go crazy trying to work out of this room. Edited to add: Ugh. The maintenance and cleaning crews really need to get in gear. This is the fan in the bathroom:

Yelp
... (y)our design hotel ... Klaus K is a family-run design hotel centrally located close to Helsinki`s Esplanadi. It was just a 15-minute-walk from the ferry harbour - just perfect if you should arrive from Tallinn by ferry like me. All front staff members were very friendly and all of my 1,000 little questions got answered to my satisfaction. A notebook is available for surfing the Net free of charge ... what a blessing since Internet cafés have almost become extinct in Finland. My Mystical Room was very small, but I enjoyed the design, the comfy queen-sized bed and the master switch to turn off all the lights with one click. Just the pillows were of surprisingly low quality and had already started to get partly lumpy. The even smaller bathroom offered big bottles by MALIN+GOETZ, a brand that is still quite unknown in Germany though I do not know why ... rum body wash ... vitamin b5 body moisturizer ... peppermint shampoo ... cilantro hair conditioner ... such marvelous products ... had to get me my own bottle of rum body wash upon check-out to continue my wonderful Finland trip at home ;o)! Every morning, guests can choose between an Italian and a Scandinavian breakfast buffet. You should go for the latter one, because Italy cannot live up to these super tasty whole-grain loafs of bread or buns, these cereals or jams with boysenberry, sea buckthorn or cloudberry. Never ever! I could have eaten for hours ;oD! Klaus, we will meet again one day, but there should be at least one bottle with complimentary water in my room for the price you charge, please!

Yelp
Klaus K is in a great location and within walking distance to a lot of activities in downtown Helsinki. There is a tram stop right across the street which makes getting to/from the airport super convenient. Our room was quite small but that is expected when traveling in Europe. There is a breakfast buffet that may or may not be included in your room rate. We ate there one morning and enjoyed it. If you have not tried Finnish foods before, this is a nice introduction. They also have take away cups so you can grab some tea or coffee to go as well.

Yelp
We found the Klaus K to be excellent. We enjoyed our stay here very much. Unlike gimmicky hipster seeking hotels like the Ace Hotel Shoreditch in London, the Klaus K clearly sees its primary business as providing service as a hotel. A good thing too. The room is very handily located in a very nice area of the city. It's a short walk to the tourist district. The tram runs right outside and buses too. We liked our room. It was stylish without being excessive. It was fitted out nicely and was a good base for our stay. It was quiet and very comfortable. Beyond this, there are two key things to highlight. First, the breakfast is nothing short of magnificent here. The care taken in its execution and presentation is a joy to behold and should be used as an example to any hotel in the world that wants to do breakfast properly. I wouldn't be able to compose a description to do it justice, but those who've experienced it will know what I mean. Second, the staff are great here. Every request or enquiry we made of the young people at the front desk was treated with great politeness, efficiency and good humour. Anyone who has doubts about the young these days should see these guys in action. They're seriously great. An added advantage is that several of them are very good looking. What a team. This was a great stay. We really liked the hotel, it's services and its staff, and there's not much more too it than that.

Yelp
Klaus K is an independently owned design hotel in a perfect spot in central Helsinki. Situated well with amazing restaurants Boulevard Social and Gaijing just a few steps away it is the place to be seen. Klaus K has beautiful rooms with different Kalevala inspired themes. Owners Marc and Mia had a vision of a place filled with stories and legends together with the best of contemporary design. Stylt Trampoli made their vision a beautiful reality. Breakfast is absolutely the best in town. Local produce, beautiful setting and plenty of hot food options. Coffee is great and cheeses to die for. Also serving brunch on weekends. The hotel has its own restaurant Ilmatar that serves the breakfast but also does an amazing Christmas Dinner. The other restaurant, Toscanini, is the THE spot for Italian food in Helsinki. Amazing decor (absolutely love the tin ceiling) and great wine list. Klaus K is also active in the design / fashion / wine events. Fashion brunches have been immensely popular and Ahjo Bar has become somewhat a famous spot for gala after parties. Recently Klaus K revealed plans for the new lobby area that will transform the whole downstairs. The Living Room Co-Creation Project was established to crowdsource ideas for the new space. Find out more here. Klaus K is Helsinki's first and only Design Hotel™.

Yelp
Ok place, very friendly helpful staff. Great breakfast. After 4 pm, we had to go downstairs to ask them to clean the room. Small rooms!

Yelp
Terrific hotel, room very nice, staff was great. Really enjoyed the breakfast. I would especially like to thank Heidi Kuitto at the reception desk. She is outstanding, and represented the hotel in a very professional manner. Her ability to answer all my questions immediately was truly remarkable. Thank you Heidi, and thank you Klaus K. Yelp
Beautiful hotel. Very modern, clean and well-designed. Perfect location right in the design district of the city within walking distance to the main train station, great restaurants and shops. Rooms are on the small side but very clean and comfortable. Would stay here again.

Yelp
Stayed at Klaus K for one night only (went there for business). Nice feel to the hotel, nice design and interior. Not much to complain about, maybe the rooms could have been a bit larger but overall nice. The personnel was service-minded Breakfast was good but I would not expect less for this kind of hotel Would definitely stay here again

Yelp
I stayed here for 2 nights in 2013 and I was quite happy with the room despite its small size. Helsinki's accommodation is well known for its expensiveness and this is no exception. For this price, I could easily get a suite elsewhere. Although the room was small, I find it to be very cozy and comfortable. What is most important is the bed, and it was very comfortable. 2 great nights of sleep kept my time there enjoyable and like they say, you can do perform well with a good night of sleep despite the jet lag. Location is very conveniently situated, walking minutes to the central train station and near there, you can catch the Finnair's Airport Bus to the airport. There are restaurants and shops around the hotel, so you won't have to worry about that, just the timing in which they may close early depending on the season. Free wifi is available at the hotel and I had no problems with the connection. Breakfast is certainly one of the highlights of this hotel, it's selection of food at the restaurant offers top quality stuff and you have to wake up for it! Overall, I had an enjoyable stay at this hotel.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast! Great selection with many surpricing treats, nice atmosphere with good music and very friendly staff.

Yelp
Great Design Hotel in Helsinki- we were in the Desire room-grade, which was nice and spacious for Scandi/Nordic standards, small bathroom but nice feel overall. Lobby/Breakfast area is nice and stylish, staff were all exceptionally friendly and helpful. Food in Toscanini was a bit overpriced as mentioned below but I think everything in Helsinki is going to be more than you're used to if you're coming from elsewhere in Europe (in my case, even the UK). Was a bit chilly over Easter but if I can make it back in the summer, I'd love to return and experience Klaus K once again.

Yelp
Really nice rooms, kind of like a boutique hotel right on the streets of bustling helsinki, especially liked how they incorporated stairs into the actual bed, all the food was gourmet and straight from the farm, and it was TO DIE FOR
google avatar

Brian J.

Yelp
Amenities include a helpful staff. I loved the Kalevala theme throughout the hotel. The addition of the metal shark and swimmer is very cool. The location is close to a park, restaurants, shopping, and museums. The hotel is more expensive than others but worth the extra I think. One problem is the Sauna. They have a lot of people booking it which may mean that it won't be available when you want it. Good idea to book it as soon as you get there. Also, they are willing to make reservations for you to restaurants. Many Helsinki restaurants seem to run on reservations primarily and if you get in to a popular place without one you can count yourself lucky. If you are not fluent in Finnish, have the hotel but the restaurant reservations. They are very helpful and willing to do it. The breakfast is very good and offered many traditional Scandinavian foods. I loved this place and will definitely return.

Yelp
Behind the yuppified decor, really small rooms.

Yelp
A friend I was traveling with suggested this hotel. The hotel was offering a special of three nights stay for the price of two nights. I was staying in a room by myself so I chose the lowest price room option. Decor/Design: The design is well thought out and has a consistent stylish feel. The room was a good size, and had plenty of light. Service: Efficient and helpful when asked. The housekeeping seemed to be a little light. Some papers were in my room on the floor when I arrived and they stayed there until I left four days later. Food: The breakfast was a great variety of choices without being overkill or wasteful. The berry preserves were amazing! I did not try the other restaurant in the hotel, but it seemed to draw a steady crowd. Value: A great value when on sale. Location: On a tram line and located in a stylish part of town. Walking distance to many restaurants and shopping options. Would I return? Yes. If I find myself in Helsinki again, I would stay at the Klaus K.

Yelp
Overall, the hotel was above average but the 2 things that were a miss were significant for business travelers like myself. Thumbs down: --Internet - The free access is very slow. Might be enough if you're on personal travel and need to check email or social networks occasionally. But if you're on business and require heavy access, you'll need to pay the extra 10 euros/day to get decent speed. --Room service - The hotel uses the restaurant downstairs. The food is overpriced, quality OK. On busy nights like Fri/Sat, you're better off getting take out at another place because wait time could be over an hour. Thumbs up: --Service - Front desk staff were very helpful. Provided clear directions to sights, arranged early morning taxis, made phone calls to secure restaurant reservations, had converters for us to borrow. --Breakfast - VERY good. Great variety including smoked fish, eggs, organic produce, fruit, pastries. Strong coffee. Friendly wait staff. --Ambience/décor - Well...you are in the design capital after all. The "mini" room (Passion Mini) is exactly that. Compact, very small bed. Worked fine for me as I'm 5 ft but it might be too small for other travelers. I did transfer to the next size room after 2 days of personal stay - as this was what my company had secured for our group. Much better and I think the price difference was 25 euro/night. Both rooms had comfortable beds and nicely decorated. --Location - Centrally located. 10 min walking to bustling waterfront, shopping, restaurants, museums and access to public transportation. Grocery store nearby too.

Yelp
The hotel was great. Good location in central city. Room very good in all respects. Staff was excellent. I would particularly point to a member of the staff of the restaurant which held the best breakfast buffet era. Juan was just super. Beyond cordial and helpful. I would hire him in a second. The only caution is beware of directions from the reception desk staff. It might have been my ineptitude but some directions were just not good. In general a really good hotel.
