Knights of Malta Keyhole

The Knights of Malta keyhole is truly a unique and memorable place to visit in Rome. Seeing St. Peter’s Basilica perfectly framed through the keyhole is a special experience you won’t find anywhere else. I highly recommend coming very early in the morning or around sunset, as the queue can get quite long during the day. It’s definitely worth the wait and a must-visit spot when in Rome.

If you want to get away from the larger crowds this is the place. The view from the keyhole is magical and something everyone should see at least once. The line can be a bit long sometimes but it moves fairly quick. They have a food truck right by the line and there was a man playing several popular songs acoustically. We will definitely be coming back on our next visit to the city. No tickets are required just get in line.

The secret keyhole is not so secret anymore. The line was really long, it took about 45 minutes. So many people think they need to take several minutes to adjust all of their phone camera settings to get the perfect picture, while everyone behind them is just waiting. The view is nice, but don't be rude. Take your turn and move on. Without making any adjustments, it looks like this through the phone. With your eyes, it looks lovely. There was a guitarist playing some nice music.

Stood one hour in the queue to take a shitty picture because the girl I was with saw it on instagram. Do not waste your time like me an go to the garden with oranges close to it and enjoy a much better panorama.

I have waited in the sun without any shades for at least a good 60 minutes or more, so I would suggest you to come as early as possible, to avoid the crowd.

We visited the Knights of Malta Keyhole early in the morning, and it was wonderfully quiet. The view through the keyhole is truly special perfectly framed and absolutely worth seeing. It’s best to go early, as it can get quite crowded later in the day. A small but unforgettable experience in Rome!
