Knockinaam Lodge Hotel (Portpatrick, UK) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The spectacular west coast of Scotland is arguably the main attraction here, though Knockinaam Lodge Hotel is entirely worthy of its unique setting. This 19th-century house stands just steps from a private cove on the Irish Sea, and feels perhaps even more remote than it is — guests are here not to be seen but to properly get away." - Tablet Hotels

Just back from a wonderful 2 night stay in the most beautiful place. If you are looking for a quiet retreat to escape the hustle and bustle, with wonderful food and service, don't hesitate to book here. The food is exceptional, with a seasonal tasting menu for dinner that changes each day. The wine pairings were fantastic and the bespoke cocktails excellent too. Views from the lounge and the bedrooms are simply breathtaking. Breakfast was one of the best Scottish breakfasts we've ever had, and service was friendly, welcoming and professional. We can't wait to return.

Knockinaam lodge sits in a stunning location with amazing sea views. The atmosphere of the lodge is warm and welcoming. We asked for a quiet room and were situated at the front of the hotel on the top floor; we never heard a sound and enjoyed panoramic sea views from our bedroom with the added bonus of the recent wolf moon through the velux window over the bath. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating, all going the extra mile to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. The food was delicious and where necessary the chef was quick to accommodate any dietary restrictions with alternative dishes offered. Whilst the drinks menu was extensive the prices charged were steep; and for regular tea and coffee drinkers not having the ability to make a drink in the room came as a surprise. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Would highly recommend the experience. Will be back soon.

We were pleasantly surprised that there was a fine dining experience near our lodge at coorie retreats. We thought it was be lovely and how right we were. Food was delicious, and the wine, wow. On top of that Sean and Massimo were brilliant. Treated very well, by friendly, outgoing and helpful staff. Not only that, we were told to cancel our taxi by Massimo as he was going to take us home despite us telling him that's not fair on him to go out of his way! if that isn't going over and above for customers, I don't know what is. Only downside is the weather so I didn't get to enjoy one of their cigars. No doubt ill be back for that! 100% recommend, well worth the money! Thanks Massimo and Sean!

This was our third visit to the lodge and, once again, we had a delightful stay. The staff are all friendly and welcoming. The lodge retains all its vintage character and charm. We were in Pond and the room was very spacious and comfortable with an excellent bathroom attached. As always the food was outstanding! The wine list is amazing. The whole experience is brilliant! We will be back for a fourth time next year.

Knockinaam Lodge was a lovely place to visit with the added fun of a wonderful firework display for Halloween. We travelled to the area to visit family who joined us every night for a delicious dinner. The meals at Knockinaam were just fabulous, beautifully prepared, with perfectly-sized portions and pretty on the plate. The chef is marvelous. We caught the end of stormy weather so it was particularly windy on our weekend but the sun came out for a bit of sight-seeing and we visited Mull of Galloway lighthouse - fascinating bit of history and also had a quick wander thru Logan Botanical Gardens. The Lodge is an attractive country house in an impressive setting and is very comfortable with big rooms and fireplaces and great bathrooms.

Spent 3 nights in this wonderful place when we held our civil partnership ceremony there. Couldn't have been more perfect. The tranquility, incredible views, amazing staff (every single one of them), exquisite food (3 AA rosettes!!), huge comfortable room... such a romantic, restorative place to let your soul reconnect.

I recently booked Knockinaam Lodge as a special getaway for my husband's 40th birthday. I spent a long time looking for the perfect place — I wanted somewhere small and luxurious, on the coast, with excellent food. Of all the places I considered, I couldn't be happier that I finally settled on Knockinaam. We visited during Storm Amy and had some truly epic weather throughout our stay — wailing winds, torrential rain, and in between a few moments of glorious, stormy sunshine. Despite a few power cuts, our experience was flawless. ||The staff were really lovely, going out of their way to speak with us and make us feel welcome. A special shoutout to the wonderful manager whose name escapes me, Massimo with his wealth of local knowledge and infectious enthusiasm, and Craig the sous chef whose food was quite literally a work of art. We enjoyed two tasting menu dinners and two wonderful breakfasts and the exquisitely presented, imaginative culinary creations were a real highlight of our stay. I was especially impressed with how Craig managed to cater equally well for myself, a vegetarian, and my husband, a meat and seafood aficionado. The kitchen staff also went out of their way to prepare us breakfast on our second morning even without any power. ||We enjoyed a wonderful massage with Fiona, loved our room (West) with its seaview bathtub, and couldn't have asked for a better location right on the beach. The cute bunnies on the lawn and the lodge's fascinating history (this is where Eisenhower and Churchill discussed plans for the D-Day Landings) were unexpected extras. We have already decided to make this our special occasion retreat and can't wait to return in summer when we can experience the outdoor dining as well. Thank you for a truly memorable, magical stay.

How lovely to be back at Knockinaam Lodge after many years and experience the very necessary improvements the new owners have made. The place was warm and welcoming whereas formerly we were received with a decidedly frosty reception especially from the then owner! The three course lunch menu was good value and tasty although we would ask for extra vegetables next time .The carrot velouté and sour dough bread starter was excellent. The wines are pricey. One major drawback which I do hope they correct: On a wet dreary November day not one of the real fires were lit so the atmosphere was dismal despite the lovely decor. We were expecting the welcoming roar and woodsmoke/peat smells so typical of Scottish country mansions and humbler Inns (even on a dreicht Summer day) so in this respect were greatly disappointed. Instead of taking coffee and Brandy and petit four in their comfortable seating we headed for home to our own fireside. It would not need very much to make this place perfect and our preferred monthly treat. I do hope management is listening.
