Highlights

Specializing in rum, rum tours, barrel aged coffee, rum cakes and more. Kō Hana Distillers produces Kō Hana Rum, Hawaii's first Agricole Rum made entirely from native Hawaiian sugarcane. Agricole is a rum style started in Martinique whereby the rums are made like cognac using only fresh pressed juice fermented to wine and distilled to perfection. We grow all of our own sugar cane from canoe plants brought to Hawaii about 1,000 years ago. These plants had spiritual and medicinal value to the Hawaiian people, but they were nearly wiped out by commercial sugar plantations interested in growing hybrid sugarcane that grow for two years and are resistant to disease and drought. We only use authentic native cane, or "Kō" in the Hawaiian language, in everything we do. Each cane we grow has a unique look and taste. This difference carries over into the taste of the rum. Once a year, we harvest the entire collection and blend it into a unique and rare Agricole Rum like no other in the world. Our distillery and tasting room tour will provide an open look at the art of craft distillation. Our distillery has large windows allowing full viewing of our batch distillation process on a 1200 and 600 gallon hybrid potstills. Our tasting room gives samples of each rum we make and you can purchase bottles on site. Optional full farm tours allowing guests to tour the cane fields and see all of the native Kō we grow in our own fields.

"Sugarcane has grown on the Hawaiian islands since seafaring voyagers brought the stalks with them more than a millennia ago. Today, this “grass to glass” distillery produces rums exclusively made from different heirloom varieties of locally grown sugarcane. In contrast to most mass-produced commercial rums, which are typically made with bulk molasses, the Kō Hana Hawaiian Agricole Rum is startlingly complex. All ingredients used to produce their rums are grown on their property, with the exception of the honey and cacao used for one of their specialty rums. What makes a visit here so special are the regular tours of both the resting warehouse and the estate farm. In addition to various white and aged rums, visitors will get to taste raw, freshly cut sugarcane. Be sure to pick up one of their rich, boozy rum cakes as a souvenir at the gift shop. Google
We had such an amazing time. If you're a rum enthusiast like myself, this tour and tasting won't disappoint. The tour was very informative when it came to the history of the sugar cane and their specific uses. The tasting was fabulous as well. I most definitely recommend this tour. There is also a place for food there that had the most amazing brisket. Everyone was nice as well.

Google
A great spot to get a unique Hawaiian gift for friends who like special and rare drinks. The tour and tastings were fun and the staff was excited to share their passion for creating a great product and were all friendly. They also have vegan chocolates, honey, hot sauce, and merchandise for sale.

Google
Booked a group of 11 for the tour & tasting. Excellent insights into rum production provided. Tastings options included the white rums, cocktail mixes and the aged rums - everyone enjoyed their choices. One of our party was having a birthday so they had everyone sing happy birthday - it was a great time! They are a small & very unique distillery using a variety of heirloom sugar canes and barrel types to produce great rums & ready to drink cocktails - highly recommend a visit. Also a great BBQ place on the property.

Visited this on my birthday in Jan 2024. This one is a trek from where we were in Waikiki, but well worth the adventuring! Their rum is unique in that it's not a Molasses rum, and certainly uses the local sugar cane. That's certainly reflected in the rum taste. We tried the aged rums and the daquiris and ended up grabbing a couple bottles of rum and a few of the daiquiris. The caco & honey rum is exceptional. Great service and explanations during the tastings as well. They also gave us free bottle engraving, which (thanks to my awesome wife), put some heartfelt messages on. Overall, would certainly visit again, and am considering their rum club.

Google
Great rum. Worth the drive up in the middle of nowhere. Tastings offered in both standard and premium fare. The Koho is my go to. They have several rum products at all price points. The shop section also offered other local products. I come here often for Hi-Spice salsa for my street tacos.

The rum tasting and tour at Ko Hana was one thing I really wanted to experience while visiting Oahu. Our tour guide, Emily, was fun and personable, and learning about the property and distillation process was very cool. The rums are delicious - the cocoa & honey is especially tasty!

Google
Real good selection of rum, it’s not only rum in this joint they also sell coffee, ice cream, souvenir’s like shirts, honey, small bottled drinks etc. I recommend getting a sample flight it’s worth the $15 and you get to taste the variety of rum and/or cocktails. 👍🏽👍🏽

Yelp
Excellent experience for 6 adults and 1 teenager. We did the basic rum tasting as well as the daiquiris tasting. I told the tasting hostess if I can spit out my rum as I was the designated driver, and she had a personal size spittoon. Non drinker can order a small gelato for $4. Tasting was well organized and informative. Well worth $16 per person. You also get $10 discount per paid tasting on any product you purchase. I have been searching for Agricole Rum for Mai Tai without success in Tennessee and this place had many variations based on sugar cane varietals. We ended up buying 6 bottles (750ml) and 6 pre-made daiquiris (350ml?) and hot sauces. Prices were great considering the discounts and how much these rums are outside the distillery. This visit was an unexpected highlight of the day for the group. Sadly they don't ship to Tennessee.

Yelp
My 1st tasting and it was a success for me, been wanting to experience one for awhile now. I enjoyed both the tour and tasting but now I know if there is an upgrade offered pay the extra to get those specialty flavors. Thinking of going back to do just that. If you have time for an hr tour that includes a tasting go support them. You don't get to see the process of the rum being made but still worth it. They share about the company history and product and you get to see their storage "barrel" room which was interesting to me. In the kunia area just GPS it. This is a tour for those who enjoy rum straight up. recommend reservations. Check their website for more information. Cute shop of various local products. They have Kama'aina rates for the tours and tasting, can call ahead to inquire.

Yelp
Ko Hana Distillers was an amazing experience. Emily was a gracious tour guide. She gave us an amazing tour. I had a great time learning about the different cane sugar and the rum process. The tasting was an even better experience. She was experienced and knowledgeable about the product and the rum process. Should you find yourself purchasing the flight tasting, request Emily thank you, Emily for making experience memorable!

Yelp
Oh Bernadette, you made this place so fun! Probably one of the fastest tastings ever but I love getting to the point. Did not remember her name but the girl originally from Colorado, thanks for also taking care of us and getting us all rung up and a small taste of the lilikoi before we committed to 3 bottles. The location has the best vibes, cleanest restrooms, impeccable service, amazing omiyage for friends, and sorry we didn't buy chocolates from you but we had Manoa in our plans. We did get a couple bottles of Kokoleka, couple bottles of the amazing barrel aged honey (highly recommend) and a few bottles of pre-mixed cocktails. The Kokoleka was my favorite, paired with the honey and the chocolate..... *chef's kiss*.... the Koa was amazing too..... everything was yum!!!! So happy to hear that what makes this place special is their rum is made by pressing sugarcane juice and fermenting that vs from molasses. It was truly a treat! Thank you for packing the goods so well in very protective boxes, made bringing them back to the mainland much easier! In and out in less than an hour. So glad we were able to make a pit stop on our way around the island. Will def make this a must stop when we are back on the rock to do the tour. BTW, we had Kai helped us w wine/chocolate tasting at Manoa and he was happy to hear you helped us at Ko'hana, Bernadette! I love the ohana vibes with your partnerships! Much aloha!

Yelp
I ordered tasting tickets online the night before I went. No need to look for parking they have their own parking. Upon arrival you check in, wait for all guest then the tour begins. During the wait times you can look around and shop or wait until the end. After the tour you will go to bar area to be seated for tasting. The seats were comfortable and the layout was nice. Before the tasting start you can upgrade to the aged package. Which you will drink the more aged version of the shot. The tasting shots were very generous. We only got to taste one of the mix drinks. I have brought the mix drink set online for my friend 40th birthday. Which was nice since I didn't have to worry about shipping. She loved it.

Yelp
Entertaining visitors to the island and one loves to visit breweries and distilleries. I have heard about KoHana also we raced to get there after a day at the beach. They close at 5pm, so plan your outing out to Kunia with enough time for a tasting and if inclined, have some drinks on site with BBQ. We arrived at 3pm for our tasting and surprisingly, their classic white rum was tasty enough to sip! As were all the others we sampled. We got $10 off a total purchase of $20 per taster, so we purchased some rum and had some in their outdoor picnic area. They have This Lil Piggy in the back that serves BBQ. Left at 5pm when they closed.

John N.

Yelp
We booked a same day distillery tour for $25 per person. The tour itself was meh. The tour guide was good and there was rum tasting at the end. Each person was given a shot glass to take home. Overall it was fun. I would recommend if you are in the North shore area visiting.

Hope S.

Yelp
Such a nice spot with affordable and delicious tastings! They have many different options with their sugarcane alcohol. ***If you do a tasting you also get $10 off $25 or more I think? My husband and I both got a tasting so we got $20 off our purchase! But all together it was an awesome deal and experience to try the drinks and get a discount on more drinks or gifts! All the employees were friendly and dog lovers! A employee also bought my golden Cheddar a vanilla gelato which he 100% enjoyed!!! Thank you to him A nice spot for drinks and unique gifts! Must try in wahiawa/kunia.

Starla T.

Yelp
We were drawn to Ko Hana due to hearing about a brisket place in the back of their distillery. (See my separate review of This Lil Piggy) After ordering from the TLP which is separate from Ko Hana I decided to take a peak at the distillery's shop. They had a variety of items from daiquiris, rum, chocolate, glasses and more. I had a hard time choosing between the Lilikoi and pineapple daiquiri but the sweet sales associate gave me a sample of each. I had to get both. I'll drink almost anything, I'm not a picky person, but I really liked both daiquiris. They were smooth and sweet. I like that I can just pour them over ice and that they're ready to go. I also like that the bottles they're in are so pretty! I ended up getting three since I was there...the associate packed my bottles up in a special cardboard box. If you're traveling or buying as a gift, it'd be perfect. While walking out I saw a group of people touring the facility. More info about the tour can be found on their website. I'd be sure to visit in the future and check it out...or at least do a sampling! Overall, it's a very nice place. Parking is right outside. The overall distillery is out in Kunia and it's like a hidden gem.

Yelp
Everyone loves a local distillery and especially a rum distillery. Ko Hana Distillers has a tasting room that offers an aged rum tasting and a rum cocktail tasting. Unlike other rums, their rum is made from locally grown sugarcane that's cut and pressed into fresh juice. Every varietal of heirloom cane has a unique flavor profile. They pair it with chocolate and honey to bring out the sweetness and depth. My bf loves the Kokoleka. Personally, I am a cocktail girly and love the rum cocktails. The bottles are ready to pour over ice and they have classic flavors like mai tai and daiquiri, but also Hawaiian flavors such as lilikoi and pineapple. We always have a few bottles at home and it is the great gift for friends and family in the mainland (mac nut chocolate was sooooo last year). Also, the prices are afforable and if you do a tasting, they give you $40 off your purchase of anything in the store.

Yelp
5 star experience! The family including kids went on the full tour. We all tasted the sugar cane juice which was my personal favorite part. I had no idea!! I loved touching the fibrous cane pieces. How amazing. We lived learning about the process, the story telling and the history. It was a great time. The included tasting was awesome to put it all together. The kids got gelato while the adults sampled the rums. I like the tasting to learn what I liked in order to buy the rums I wanted to make better drinks. A big win and one of my favorite activities of the week!

Raquel O.

Yelp
Very nice distillery. Located in a quiet neighborhood, this shop offers tasting and shopping. We had our children so we didn't take too much time, but the staff were passionate and knowledgeable about the different products and options. If you are in town check them out, it's worth the stop!

Jenn A.

Yelp
Great tasting experience! You have a choice between the rum or cocktails. The staff were all very nice and helpful making us feel welcomed with lots of aloha. The gift shop was also very nice with so many awesome things to buy as gifts for family, friends, or yourself. Great place to visit and enjoy together.

Ashley B.

Yelp
We stopped here on a rainy afternoon to try local rum. We opted for the $10 tasting. It's worth your full $10. You get to try 4 rums or 4 rum daiquiris. Super friendly staff. We didn't like the rum too much - but that's more of our tastebuds. The venue and history is real interesting to hear about. Worth a drive out to try something local off the beaten path.

Jarred D.

Yelp
Checked out Ko Hana for a tour and tasting and absolutely loved the experience! Our guide was knowledgeable, humorous, and welcoming. It was so cool to learn about the history of this distillery, the wide variety of sugar canes they use, and their commitment to sustainability. I loved tasting their various rums and miscellaneous products from their partners (honey and hot sauce). Definitely check them out if you're in the area - it's worth the drive!

Yelp
Mes chers amis, rejoignez-moi dans le monde merveilleux de l'amour... Friends, come join me in the wonderful world of love.. ...Ooh, girl, I like you, I do I wanna be your friend, go shoppin' in a Benz I like you, I do I'll hit you when I land, can you fit me in your plans? Kō Hana Distillers on the country side of O'ahu was not on my city boy itinerary when I landed in Hawai'i! But while cruising on the North Shore, my bestie K, casually asked if I liked Rum. Um I LOVE rum was my answer and that's all she needed to hear when she asked if I wanted to checkout this amazing Rum stop! I like you, I do We went over to France and we woke up in Japan I like you, I do (I do, mm, mm) ... Oh, girl, I know you only like it fancy (fancy) So I pull up in that Maybach Candy... Kō Hana (the true way to spell it) Distillers specialize in Hawaiian Agricola Rum. Farm to bottle, small batches, single variety, hand crafted amazing! The foundation starts with Hawaiian heirloom sugar cane collection procured by co-founder and owner Robert Dawson. These are the original varieties that arrived with the first Polynesian settlers 800 years before sugar cane plantations existed on the islands. Purest at its best! When we arrived private parking was easy up front. We enter to a "plantation-looking" building with lots of open air and Rum related gifts everywhere. The "islands vibes" gent that greeted us was laidback and gave us the options for the Rum flights, which we came in for. My Bestie chose the Daiquiri $10 and I chose the Classics $10. This is an amazing deal when you also consider you also get a $10 credit towards your favorite rum! And I suggest you use that credit! After a couple rounds browsing the eclectic rum related gifts, apparel, food, bites... it was our turn for the Rum flight experience. Each of us received four small glasses to sample the various Rums. We were all refreshed on how to taste test... smell, with mouth slightly parted, sip rum allowing it to sit on your tongue before enjoying it slide down... ... Ooh, girl, I like you, I do (I do) I wanna be your friend, go shoppin' in a Benz I like you, I do (I do) I'll hit you when I land, can you fit me in your plans? After sampling all four Bestie chose the Lilikoi Daiquiri as your favorite. Sipping it I can see why! Besides she got hella good taste... look at her Bestie, me lol! Jk! Jk! For me, the Classics flight was legit and the final Chocolate Rum with the added Maui Honey was by far my favorite! So much so that it's still on my taste buds! In the end, it was one of my highlights for the weekend! Incredible island Rums, on the countryside, with my gorg Bestie K.! What more can a dude ask for, right?! I ended up posting a story on my Instagram of my experience, which Kō Hana recognized and said Mahalo for the love! The story is going viral currently and I'm so stoked 'cause nothing like supporting small businesses that have a rich tradition and do it right! I like you, I do (mm, I do)... & it's not only the Rum! :D

Yelp
We made reservations online but when we got there it turned out we made it for the wrong day. They were still able to accommodate us and give us the tour. Our tour guide I can't remember his name was amazing. We went on 10/27 @ 11:15 am. He was so nice and easy to talk to. Made the experience fun and memorable for sure. We got to see all the sugar can used, the barrels, and some other things. At the end we got to sample a few and upgraded to taste the rum aged in Koa wood. My favorite was the chocolate rum. All the others were extremely strong and I simple couldn't handle more than a smell. Next time I'll only sample the daiquiris they have. We bought a bunch of stuff too, tshirts, sweater, coffee, and a hat. You can totally bring kids as there's a large outdoor are just have to keep and eye on them inside the tasting room. We will be back!

Yelp
We were greeted by Chiffon our hostess and production educator, and Given a tour by Robert the owner. This is a return visit for me to a place that does a small batch in such a quality manner that it's really worth a side trip for people to see. This was more of an educational run for me because I had done the tasting tour the last time period so. So I was more concerned with getting getting my daughter to see the sugar cane exhibition garden and all the various types of sugar cane from around the world growing in one spot. That's pretty cool. Then we got a short tour of the distilling process in the barn by the owner. And that was very cool as well. If you decide to do the testing make sure you have a designated driver. And the range of product is varied from the lightest of the light with notes if notes of flavor that will surprise you to the darkest of dark. It also gave me an opportunity to look around inside the gift shop more this timore this time and look at the products that they had for sale. It was just a stop and go on our way back home and it worked out perfectly. My daughter head fun because it's in a beautiful location, And she got an education without having to buy anything.

Stevin F.

Yelp
I've been to a few different rum distillery's from the Bahamas to Guatemala to now Hawaii, the rum here is definitely unique. Wasn't expecting the higher alcohol level rum, but none of them really hit the mark for me. The process this rum goes through was interesting though from aging in Koa barrels to using the native cane sugar. If your into rum it's worth the try, just wasn't my taste of rum.

Mike T.

Yelp
My wife and I are huge whiskey and rum fans so she booked us a tour here. I had never heard of this distillery before but love supporting smaller locally owned businesses so I was excited about visiting this place. The tour was fantastic. Having been on a dozen plus Bourbon tours it was fun to see the difference with a rum tour. I really enjoyed leaning about the different sugar cane that they use and the history behind each one. The barrel room was beautiful and smelled amazing. You also get to see the fermentation vats and the still used to distill the rum. The tasting includes 4 of their rums as well as a honey that was aged in a rum barrel. My wife paid an extra $15 for their reserve tasting and we got to try 2 more of their higher end rum products that were fantastic! It's definitely worth the extra cost.

Joe P.

Yelp
A great distillery with the only rum you'll ever try that has been aged in Koa wolf barrels which has such a delicious and unique taste. You owe it to yourself to try the aged tasting option. Very worth it. Also they have so many cool colabs including coffee aged in their barrels, chocolate made with their rum, delicious rum cake by a local baker, honey aged in the barrels, and more! The facility is really well put together too and you can learn a lot about the history from the signs on the walls and talking to the staff.

Elijah G.

Yelp
We did a farm tour with rum tasting after. The place is in a more rural location which was really cool to see. The facility was nicer than I expected and the tour was well organized and presented. The story of sustainability and food growth was very cool and the rum was great. If you get the chance to do a field tour with the owner it will be well worth it.

Hailey L.

Yelp
MUST visit!! Emily really made the experience for our group. She was super knowledgeable and personable! It really felt like going through a tour with a friend which was super great! We did the tour which included a tasting afterwards and everything was sooo top shelf and tasty! I personally loved their cocktails and actually ended up buying 3 bottles to take home! We can't wait to come back! Thank you so much Emily for being so amazing!!

David S.

Yelp
The tour and our guide, Savanah, were awesome! We had such a great time. We had our young kids (11, 12) with us and Savannah made it very comfortable for them and use to enjoy the tour. The RUM was amazing! The aged sippers were our favorite but if you like mixed drinks, then definitely try their Mai Tai (and bbq in the back)! Thank you for the great time and looking forward to our club drinks!

Abigail W.

Yelp
Stopped into Ko Hana Distillers after spending the day on the North Shore. It was a great stop on the trip back south. The tasting room is very welcoming with tons of great items to peruse while waiting for your tour. The staff was awesome, very knowledgeable about the history of the area, the distilling process, and all of the rum varieties that are offered. The rum itself was delicious. My friend and I split the standard and upgraded tastings so that we could try all of the offerings. Highly recommend checking out Ko Hana while visiting Oahu!

James T.

Yelp
Ko Hana Distillers is quite the experience! As an avid consumer of unique beverages, I took some time off from the main trail of activities to drive out and experience the tour. Besides walking through the facility to see how things were grown and processed, there was a nice tasting of rum at the end (highly recommend)! Note to all of my fellow travelers: make sure you pick up their unique drinks, since its no guarantee that the airport (or Costco - hint hint) will sell all of the same items. P.S. If you do enjoy the chocolate dessert drink (I believe that is part of the rum tasting set at the end), there is a bigger size for slightly cheaper at Costco. You're welcome!

Sealida M.

Yelp
Really informative tour. Even if you do not like alcohol, if you have a love for history and the origins of how anything comes about, our guide, Sarah, was an amazing briefer. She answered anyone's questions & was very patient. Her sarcasm is nice too, makes it less robotic. If you have a child's tongue like me, you may like the darker rums or opt for some ice cream. Also, please! Hear me out when I say that their ice cream is pretty legit & worth trying. I am surprised their ice cream is not advertised as much. I think it's $4 for a scoop but the sorbets are amazing! Like their rum, pretty sure there's some natural sugars/natural fruit incorporated into it. I tried their rum gelato, mango sorbet & guava sorbet. The mango sorbet is probably my favorite! Other flavors I remember they have is Honey, Vanilla, Chocolate, and maybe a Lavender... sorry, the little bit of rum got my memory haha!

Camie T.

Yelp
We did a tour on our way into Honolulu. It was just the 2 of us so the tour was quick, however we wish we got to see more. The tasting part was great, and their shop is very nice. We purchased 3 bottles to bring back home.

Al L.

Yelp
We heard about a rum distillery tour and tasting and decided to put this on our agenda for our recent trip to Honolulu. I've seen Ko-hana Rum back in the Bay Area and was looking forward to the visit. Located about 25 miles from Waikiki on HI-750 in Kunia, the facility is located next to sugar cane fields. We arrived and checked in for our 1:00pm tour on a Saturday. Our guide started the tour with the five of us and gave us a background about herself and asked where we all were visiting from. She said Ko-Hana is Hawaii's first Agricole rum made with only native Hawaiian sugarcane where the rum is made using only fresh pressed cane juice fermented to wine and them distilled to rum. Our guide took sugar cane and had it pressed in juicer and had us try the cane juice, which was sweet. She then took us on the tour and show us the various species of sugar cane that were grown in the exhibit garden. There are over 40 species of sugar cane. We then saw the distillation room and pot stills through the large window. Then we saw the oak barrels where the rum is aged and the special rum aged in Hawaiian Koa wood barrels. Back at the tasting room, we were served tastings of two white rums, a brown rum and then a Ko-Hana daiquiri. It was an interesting tour and tasting. We were happy we did this tour and it was a great way to leave Waikiki and see the countryside.

Rose K.

Yelp
Being a recreational sailor for over thirty years, my friends and I love our rum. Thought this would be. Best to learn about the Agricole distillery versus industrial process. Our tour leader was Laurie and she did an excellent job of educating us on the process, the sustainability and low waste footprint. We started with tasting fresh squeezed sugar cane. It was very refreshing and my first ever raw sugar cane juice. She then took us to the sugar cane garden and proceeded to teach us about the different varieties, how you can tell which sugar cane is sweeter, how long they grow, how they regrow and how they don't want them to seed because it will disrupt the heirloom qualities. We saw the distilling equipment and Laurie did an awesome job of explaining the process. We learned about the angel share (evaporation to the heavens) and the devils cut ( rum absorbed in the aged barrels ) These devil cut barrels have some redemption by way of coffee tossing in the barrels to get the flavor back out ! The education was capped off with a tasting of four different rums. We are fortunate that they ship to Ohio so we plan to buy some sipping rum when we get back home ! Definitely a great tour and well worth the time and money to support this amazing rum distillery !!!

Brandon A.

Yelp
Great experience and much to drink! My wife found a Groupon and received a discount on a tour at the Ko Hana Rum Distillery. It was our lucky day because the manager was substituting for a worker who was not present. The manager taught our group everything about the process of making one bottle of Ko Hana Rum. He is very informative and passionate about what he does. Afterward, you receive generous pours of different types of rum. They also leave you with a $10 coupon to purchase anything in the store with. Highly recommended and truly a gem for anyone who appreciates the process of rum making.

Anita C.

Yelp
Stopped in for rum tasting. More than generous pours for the price of the tasting, so drink water! Very interesting and complex flavors. Tried a couple of their daiquiris that were very tasty. Will recommend to family and friends.

Becky E.

Yelp
Everyone is really knowledgeable- I would describe the rum as tasting more like moonshine high octane, it's not smooth it hits you in the face pretty hard. But everyone's taste is different.

Darlene R.

Yelp
We arrived by Uber from Waikiki a tad bit early before our tour. Took a look around took some pictures before they opened for the day. Derek our tour guide was fantastic, very knowledgeable on the 32 different sugar canes that they grow on the 300 acres of land KoHana Rum Distillery have as well has the history. The tour took a full hour of part of the farm. Now the best part of the tour Rum Tasting!!!! Nope they gave us a glass of freshly squeezed sugar cane that had a earthy/grassy sweet taste. Not bad at all. Now the Rum tasting filly started! We tasted 4 different Rums 2 clear 1 Amber Colour and 1 dark. That were all delicious, the one that stranded out the best is Hawaiian Rum crafted with Cacao & Honey as well as Native Hawaiian Sugar Cane. At the end of the tasting we finished off with a dribble of honey that they use. We found our new favourite Rum!!

Mario M.

Yelp
Bernadette was the best! She was our host and tour guide, well versed, incredibly knowledgeable, could answer everyone's questions with ease. Rum sampling after the tour was fantastic, the barrel aged honey with the chocolate honey rum was a favorite for sure. Nice little BBQ spot out back for a great snack pre or post tour. Highly recommend, we will spend the extra for the upgraded tour for the next trip out. Cheers!

Kimtastrophe M.

Yelp
Tasted really bad. I should have dumped it. It was nice that we got to taste it with some honey and chocolate, but the alcohol was not good.

My father came on the SS Maunawili in 1946, a Sakada, to work for CPC then Del Monte pineapple plantation as a laborer, then as a harvester operator. He married my mother in 1965 and raised two kids in Kunia Camp in the 60s through the early 80s. Kunia Store was the hub of the camp for laborers and their children. It's wonderful to see that the Kunia store has been refurbished into a distillery (and the camp designated as a National Historic Site). Though not a country store anymore history seep from its old walls. My nephew now works at the distillery and is proud to carry on the family's "plantation" legacy. Ko Hana offer fantastic tours and tastings, a "must do" for locals and visitors. Tour guides are great and they provide interesting history of sugar in Hawaii. The selection of agricole rum is welcomed and varied. Also, rum is distilled from sugarcane not molasses or sugar. In general, Ko Hana rum are high quality juice with caramel, vanilla, tea, chocolate and oak notes. The nose carries on to the palete which bursts into savory spices and long clean finish. It's obvious that Ko Hana's not the average mass produced rotgut.

Yelp
Great information about how the make their rum. Boutique distillery that starts with sugar cane juice. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly. They have a regular tasting included in the tour price of $25 or an upgraded tasting for an additional $15. Our guide suggested one of us get the upgrade so we could taste the full spectrum. I'm not a straight rum drinker so I could only take a small sip of each. There was plenty to share. I'm glad we did the full range. They ship back to some states on mainland so I look forward to introducing their products to friends.

Yelp
We initially wanted to do the tour but we weren't sure of our timing while we were in the North Shore, so we didn't make a reservation. We stopped by on our way back to Honolulu and did a tasting instead. We had a blast! Bri (?) was super nice, attentive and explained the different rums we were tasting. I think we did one standard tasting, and one tasting of their reserved rums. We enjoyed their cocoa rum so much we even purchased a bottle! We have really enjoyed drinking the rum at home and making our own cocktails with it. Highly recommend a stop here to learn and taste their rums!

Yelp
We found this place through a tour we did at Manoa Chocolate in Kailua and were lucky enough to get a reservation for the tour and rum tasting. The tour started with some sugar cane juice which was really good and went out to look at the different varieties of sugar can grown around the islands and learn about how sugar cane is used to make the rum. The tour continued into the barrel room and then to look at the equipment used to make the rum. Thankfully it wasn't too warm that day as the tour is mostly outside but also inside. You end the tour in the main building which is a closed building but with the doors open get a bit warm but not too bad. The last part of the tour is the actual rum tasting which was interesting to taste a few different types of rum that they make. They have a variety of things you can buy inside and with your tour, you can use your wristband to get a discount which was nice! Before you go, make your reservation online! Not sure if you can join a tour in person or if you have to have a reservation ahead of time. The people that work here have a passion for what they do and are very nice and welcoming. Also, if you decide to buy a bottle of rum or even a bottle of honey you can pay an extra $25 to have it engraved! It's a nice souvenir to bring home!! Locals also get a discount on the tour. They check your ID at check in and will credit you if you are local.

Yelp
Stopped by on our drive up to the North Shore and had the best time doing a few tastings and buying some items from Kohana. We did the classic rum tasting and the daiquiri tasting, and Heather was fantastic -- super friendly, explained everything clearly, and gave us a great experience overall. In addition to tastings, they also have a tour and an outside seating area with lots of picnic tables/benches. Each tasting also comes with a $10 credit if you end up purchasing any alcohol. We bought a few rum bottles, their pineapple daiquiri, and a sweatshirt ($35) and t-shirt ($25). They offer shipping to select states that only costs $30 flat rate for everything you can possibly stuff into the box. Their rum is super unique and yummy, and they have different varieties and variations based on batches and production. Definitely recommend stopping by for a tasting!

Yelp
Excellent tour given by Jenn, I believe that was her name. Extremely knowledgeable, passionate, and professional! Tasting the sugar cane in the beginning was a great touch and really helped to pull flavors out of the finished product! Highly recommend!

Yelp
All around awesome experience with a company that is so dedicated to supporting hawaii ag and mastering the art of Hawaiian Agricole rum. Highly highly recommend. There's also an ONO bbq spot in the back for lunch pre- or post-tasting.

Yelp
Came here with a group and did the tour for $25. It was very informative and the guide was exceptional. Learned a lot about Agricole rum, sugar cane, farming, and the distilling. They are big on supporting local, reuse and recycle. However, most of the tour was just standing around in the hot sun or sitting on a bench. We could only see the distillery from windows and saw a storage room with kegs. You don't see the actual process except the first pressing machine (and get to taste fresh cane juice). You also don't see the bottling. The tasting area is inside the showroom and comes at the end of the tour. Many of us are not hard core spirit tasters, so it was kinda tough to drink straight rum with only water chaser. I made my husband drink it all despite protests so we could get our money's worth out of it. I think I would have enjoyed it with something other than a water chaser or in mixed drinks, but well this is how a tasting is supposed to go down. Not their fault we are wusses. Some people bought ice cream they sell to chase the rum down. They should sell coke, juice, and chips too...I know this probably goes against the connoisseur rules but I think it would make more people buy their rum. Since they don't have other food for sale (except chocolate, rum cake, or ice cream) it makes you want to leave asap and get something in your mouth and stomach to counter the straight shots you just had. If I were in charge of marketing, I would give people mixed drinks samples while on the tour (or before) so they get warmed up for the straight tasting, and probably generate more sales of rum and merch. We did get a free logo dram glass as a thank you. It was a fun experience but not what I expected but still educational. The showroom was nice and we picked up a few things, a hat, hot sauce, ready to drink cocktails which were good and STRONG.

Yelp
KōHana Distillers has a special place in my heart and my liver. My first tour with them was over five years ago and that was when I first learned about the incredible process of making Agricole rum and their companies mission to keep the local varietals of sugar cane alive and thriving. Even if you aren't an ethnobotanist hearing the history and culture associated with each cane then tasting the different flavors within the rum is truly a lovely experience! The staff including the fabulous B, are so knowledgeable and eager to guide you through the process and the flavor notes. You'll taste the difference between a rum made with manulele or pakaweli. Make sure if you're local to let them know and always get a rum cake to take home! This is actually one of my favorite ways to spend a lazy weekend afternoon.

Yelp
We had fun with our rum tasting. We got to taste both classic rums and aged runs. Our guide was super nice and informative. The building is tastefully decorated with items to purchase. I recommend this distillery!

Yelp
Loved the tour. Learned a lot of sugar cane and how it is turned into rum. Our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Even kept the kids in the group entertained. As far as the tasting not a fan of warm rum, but the little taste of their daiquiri and I was sold. The chocolate infused rum was great too. Next time I want to do the daiquiri flight. Over all a fun experience.

Yelp
Booked a tour here with our group and had an amazing time! Guides were knowledgeable. Distillery is small but we were able to see the process up close. The tasting was obviously my favorite part. We tried about 4 different tasters and bought multiple bottles to bring home.

Yelp
I booked a tour through Groupon before seeing the Yelp ratings, and I must say it was a pleasantly great surprise! This is one of the places where I can say that they fully deserve the perfect rating they have on Yelp. The staff are personable and obviously very knowledgeable about their distilling process. It's very cool to see how the different types of sugarcane lead to different rum products as well as how they age the rum. Onto the tasting! I'm not a big fan of drinking liquor straight, but these were pretty tasty! My favorites have to be their Koho (rum aged in a whiskey barrel -- first tastes like whiskey but ends like rum) and their Kokoleka (rum with cacao and honey for more of a liqueur). Their rum is also in beautiful bottles that would be great as a decoration, but with such good tasting rum, who wouldn't want to drink it? The big surprise was getting one of the souvenir glasses for free so I'll have something to remember the experience with. If you're visiting O'ahu, you can't miss this. Great tour and amazing experience that I highly recommend.
