Guide to Ko Olina, Oahu

"A state-of-the-art marina with 342 slips that offers sunset catamaran sailings, boat charters, snorkeling and dolphin-watching trips; several companies operate out of the facility, including local charter operators. “Consider sailing like the ancient Hawaiians and snorkeling in an authentic Hawaiian wa'a (canoe),” adds Jim Bendt, a T+L A-List advisor." - Carly Caramanna Carly Caramanna Carly Caramanna is a theme park and travel journalist who has spent her professional career in New York City, Nashville, and Los Angeles. Great service, professional introductions and clean facilities, the snorkel was easy to all age. We don’t need to worry about the photos due to they have arranged photographer to took nice photos for all parties, that’s absolutely worthy to join the trip and we were so close to dolphins, turtles and great amount of beautiful fishes.

We had a great time on the morning catamaran! The crew was great, perfect combination of friendly and professional. Boat and facilities were very nice and clean. Felt safe throughout the boat ride, wearing masks indoors and hand sanitizing available. They even had reef safe sunscreen and ginger root available for people who are prone to motion sickness! The food and drinks provided were delicious (pulled pork, teriyaki chicken, rice, salad, pineapple and open bar with beer/wine/mixed drinks). The crew were very knowledgeable, providing information about the island/sights as well as spotting and identifying sea creatures. We saw 4 or so whales, two types of dolphins, flying fish, and sea turtles! Overall, was an excellent experience and will absolutely be booking another adventure with Ko Olina Marina when we return to Oahu in the future!

The worst Marina I've ever been at bar none, I lived there for 3 years. As time went on they kept increasing prices while removing amenities. Tables, barbecue pits, bathroom shut down, cameras everywhere. The people that own the Marina are extremely greedy and are trying to remove most of the boaters so they can attach it to condominiums that they plan to build, (which will never happen) Then they started charging hefty costs for parking for the liveaboards. Got to the point where they would shut the gate down by 10: 00pm so if you had an emergency you couldn't even get to your boat if it was sinking. By the time I finally left it is what I consider the worst Marina in all of Hawaii.

This was one of the best times i have ever had snorkeling. The boat was beautiful. The staff was nice and the sandwiches were delicious with really yummy drinks. Snorkeling was an absolute blast. So many fish and so much fun. We even got to see humpback whales. I would totally do this again

Yelp
The Sunset cruise was pleasant. The weather was nice with a moderate breeze. All staff on deck were very social. A couple of them happened to be from California. The vibes seemed more party like than a mellow cruise. Nonetheless, it was an awesome experience. Great music, strong drinks, small bites. To sit and watch the sunset was nothing short of stunning. It was so beautiful to catch it moment by moment. Mother Nature at work. The cruise was about two hours.

Yelp
An Anti-Boating, Mediocre, Overpriced Marina With Attitude. They DO NOT want your business. I've used this marina several times over the years when visiting the west side of the island by boat. It's never been a cheap overnight visit because their prices have always been very high. But as a visiting boater it's always nice to pull in to a friendly marina for the night and have a nice meal out at the nearby restaurants from time to time. Historically, in the world of marinas and boating and boaters and marina staff, this symbiosis of objectives has served everyone well, world-wide. A number of years ago, Ko Olina essentially doubled the slip fee on all of their long-term monthly slip-rental clients. This emptied the marina occupancy by roughly half, so that now the marina was suddenly managing about half the boats for the original income. A shark move that Satan or a Trump family member would approve of, especially considering the limited slip availability throughout all of Hawaii. It was as though the cruelty was at least half the point. But I digress. At some point after all that, someone there decided that it's just too much bother for a marina to rent a slip for less than a month. This is a giant Fcuk You!! to the entire Hawaii and visiting boating community. They will not rent you a slip for even a night, even though they currently have several slips to rent. Even knowing that there are extremely limited moorage options throughout the islands and particularly on that section of Oahu. This coast features one ramshackle state-run marina with little to no space available, a few open roadsteads, which are highly surf and wind dependent, a total of ONE tiny ~3-4 boat capacity protected anchorage, and then there is Ko Olina Marina, previously a nice marina with some amazing (if expensive) aloha, now with their new attitude that they've somehow picked up along the way: "Fkuc You, we're a marina and we have slips and all, but pi$$ off, OK? We can't be bothered with your perfectly normal request for a slip for a night. A$$hole Awards, all around, you guys. Mahalo for nothing.

Yelp
Asked if there was a place to tie up for the night if weather got terrible and she said no we do not take overnight guests. So I asked if it was an emergency and had to come in for the night and she acted confused and just told her to never mind. This is the second time we have stopped in here and they seriously are super rude.

Yelp
I wish I could give zero stars. What a joke this place is. I called two days ahead of time to find out about a one night slip and never got a call back. When I did finally get a hold of them, I was rather rudely told that I needed to submit paperwork two days in advance for a simple overnight slip. What a bunch of bullshit. Don't bother. Try to avoid letting them see a dime of your money if possible. i'll give them five thumbs down rather than five stars. Update: I have been to marinas all down the California coast now. From Sausalito, to Half Moon Bay, to Santa Cruz, to Monterey, to Morro Bay, to Marina Del Rey, to Newport Beach, and now Dana Point. There isn't a place in California that isn't about 1 million times better than anywhere in Hawaii. Seriously people, take your boats out of there, stop accepting that this is OK, and stop giving them your money. Without exception, at every single place we have stopped, we have been greeted courteously and given such a far better value than you could ever hope to get in any of the Hawaii shithole marinas and I don't just mean this one. The whole place is a complete joke. As soon as possible I'm going to take the boat that I still have their out and never go back.

Yelp
Worst run marina I've ever seen, also beware of exploiting parklinq, daily parking is $17 not $15 as noted

Yelp
Now, I'm not sure if the Ko Olina Marina is good for docking boats, but it sure does have some cool tours. I took a helicopter tour which was very cool, and I am planning on swimming with the dolphins.

Yelp
Do not depend on this marina if you make a reservation. They don't respect the concept of reservations. Imagine what a pain it is to sail for hours just to find out that they gave your slip reservation to someone else who showed up without a reservation. Then instead of apologizing, they become rude. Horrible customer service.

Yelp
Three yachts burned in koolina this past month. Fire hoses on dock did not work correctly, resulting in a very large fire and damage to other yachts. Fire could have been contained better if hoses worked better than an abc squirt gun. Hence fire hoses didn't work at all. Tow company towing boat with a very small and undersized boat. Koolina marina needs to redo all the fire hoses to meet current fire code. Considering slip rental can be $800 to $1400 or more a month. They need to update marina to meet current building and fire codes.

Yelp
Terrible business, poor customer service. Travelled all the way from Chicago to learn our adventure had been cancelled without notice or apology. Not recommended!!

Yelp
It's a nice Marina to check out and walk up and down. Ko Olina Marina is also right next to the hotels, resorts and the Ko Olina Beach itself.

Yelp
Was fishing in the Marina when a man on a jet ski (the "owner", allegedly) told me to leave the Marina as fishing was banned, though there were no signs or any form of formal warning. As I was packing up the owner came by twice again, each time appearing increasingly agitated, shouting at me to leave and threatening to call security. After packing I was walking back to the parking lot where I was set upon by a security guard who stated I had offended the owner and thus had to leave. I suggested the owner could be more polite and less rude but was simply told that he was very important and thus I had to leave. As I was leaving the first security guard two more came on a golf art, asking me rather confrontationally if I had a problem. I said no and left though I was still followed by guards to the exit. Overall the staff seemed angry and confrontational, while the "owner" appeared personally offended by my mistake. I was constantly harassed whilst trying to leave and was almost attacked by overly confrontational guards. I would advise staying away from the marina. Going there involves risking an altercation with the angry, rude and confrontational staff.
